Bad wolf designs
Lindsey Beauchaine is the owner and creator of Bad Wolf Designs based out of Fortuna. She created Bad Wolf Designs during the pandemic’s peak to stay connected with friends, family, and the community. Over the past two years Lindsey has continued to expand her business with her unique ability to create one of a kind personalized gifts and memories. Lindsey’s skills are endless and she is always open to learning new skills. Some of her skills include glass etching, wood engraving and she is also a skilled seamstress. She works on one-of-a-kind items as well as bulk orders for any personal or business events. Amongst popular items at Bad Wolf Designs she offers customized whiskey/ wine glasses partnered with a custom etched bottle of wine or spirits. Glass etched monogrammed baking dishes are some of her top sellers.
Lindsey’s favorite thing to create are Memory Bears. She takes clothing and other materials, along with the memories they hold, and turns them into a plush teddy bear. These items are repurposed, recycled, and remembered by loved ones for years to come. “There is something special and powerful each time I create a new bear. I feel extremely hon-
ored every time I am entrusted with something so important and meaningful.”

Wild souls ranch adds to the herd
Wild Souls Ranch welcomed Dolly Parton to the herd on Wednesday, October 19th. She and Merle become fast friends and it seems Dolly is a natural addition to the Wild Souls team. Dolly is a 9-yearold mini donkey jenny. She was living at a rescue in Sonoma, CA since April 2022 and was adopted into a temporary home until coming to Wild Souls Ranch shortly thereafter. Her history prior to the rescue is unknown but she is in good spirits and adjusting to her new environment very well! Help Wild Souls Ranch welcome Dolly to her new home!
Congratulations to our winners of the Shop Fortuna for the Holidays contest. We had 162 entries totaling more than $35,000 in local shopping.

The City of Fortuna made the decision to bring the Business Improvement District in as a department under the City Manager, Merritt Perry, and hired Morgan Dodson as the FBID Administrator to be staff support to the City of FBID Advisory Committee. The office for FBID will remain at the Fortuna Monday Club, located at 610 Main Street, and on Mondays FBID will be in City Hall at 621 11th Street. The purpose and the goals of Fortuna BID is to promote public events and general business activities, to furnish music for public events, to decorate public places, and to support recruitment and expansion of commercial business.
The Fortuna City Council has appointed an Advisory Committee and their monthly meetings began in January 2023. The meetings will be held at City Hall in the Council Chambers on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The committee meetings are open to the public, so please attend and bring ideas to share and advise FBID on how to support your Fortuna business. The Advisory Committee makes recommendations to the Fortuna City Council on how to utilize the benefit assessment fees collected from designated Fortuna businesses. Benefit assessment fees are collected according to the Fortuna Municipal Code 5.40, which is located on the City of Fortuna website, friendlyfortuna.com, or at City Hall. The City of Fortuna matches the amount of the benefit assessments collected to complete the budget used to accomplish the tasks and goals of the BID.
The BID is excited to begin the new year with a fresh slate and many opportunities to support Fortuna businesses. Beginning in December 2022, draft logos, bylaws, agenda, minutes, and sponsorship forms were created. These drafts will be voted on and adopted by the BID, so look for updates in the coming days to enjoy the new changes. Take a look at the new webpage on the City of Fortuna website, friendlyfortuna.com, under Departments and the City Manager. There are many resources on the website to include a calendar of events, past events, upcoming events, People Mover rental information, the rules and regulations that the BID adheres to, and other resources. A newsletter was also created and will be sent out to Fortuna businesses to keep the community informed of what the BID has been doing and exciting things that are to come.
Many thanks are in order to the Fortuna Chamber of Commerce for making the Al Gray Lighted Parade, Shop Fortuna for the Holidays, and the Holiday Kid’s Free Movie, along with volunteers, possible for our community in 2022. These events are so important to our holiday season and bring consumers to our local businesses. There were 32 entries in the Lighted Parade, which lit up the streets of Fortuna on December 9th. There were over 300 children that had the opportunity to enjoy a film at the Fortuna Movie Theater at no cost. Popcorn, soda, and a toy were handed out as well to complete the experience. The BID looks forward to continuing these Fortuna holiday traditions in 2023. The 28 Days of Kindness spent the month of February showcasing Fortuna businesses on social media to show consumers what is available for showing love to loved ones and friends.
Upcoming events in March are the Small and Home-based Business Marketplace where Fortuna businesses that have five or fewer employees and home-based businesses showcase the services and products they have to offer. It will be held in the River Lodge on March 18th from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and is free for visitors. The Fortuna Garden Club will host their Daffodil Festival on March 25th and 26th. The festival is one of only three in the state. Take a look at the City of Fortuna website, friendlyfortuna.com, for more upcoming events.
Social media will be utilized to check in with our community and to promote events, specials, interviews of owners and staff, and give recognition to newly opened businesses. Social media sites that have been created are Facebook, City of Fortuna BID, Instagram, City_of_Fortuna_BID, and TikTok, city_of_fortuna_bid. Please follow us to check out our videos and posts in the city. If you are a business owner, expect a visit from Morgan while time is spent on getting to know the assessed businesses and hearing how we can support them. The BID would love to hear about your upcoming events and activities for promotion and advertising, so please send information to mdodson@ci.fortuna.ca.us or call 707-725-9261. Please attend meetings or reach out to the BID for more information and with any questions.
