Afefa Aymon Zamil Year 11

Afefa joined us in Year 7 from St. Bede’s Roman Catholic Primary School in Jarrow. She has now been at NHSG for four years and last year won the Gilliane Thompson Mathematics Prize and the Food Technology Prize.

I was very excited to learn I had won a bursary place at NHSG. Since being here, I have felt endlessly supported both educationally and pastorally; there are so many opportunities open to me here. Since starting at NHSG, I have realised that I can make a difference and like many of our alumnae, go on to make a big impact in my field – which I think will be Medicine for me.

Advice I would have liked to give myself before starting at NHSG: Don’t be nervous – everyone is very welcoming, and you will make new friends.

Advice I would like to give to other girls considering applying for a bursary: Be confident and try your best.

What would you like to say to anyone that has given or is considering giving to the NHSG bursary fund?

Just thank you – thank you so much for enabling me to have this opportunity and this experience.
