HIGHLIGHT

HOLISTIC CHILD DEVELOPMENT Together with local churches, NCM applies a holistic child development model designed to address all aspects of a child’s life—spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, and relational. By partnering with local churches, children learn that God loves them, they have value, and they can have a relationship with Jesus. Our programs also help improve the lives of children’s families, knowing that the best child development happens when children grow up in healthy families. Child sponsorship is crucial to the success of our child development programs. Through child sponsorship, children are enrolled in child development centers, where they receive education, preventive health care, nutritional support, psycho-social support, recreation, and spiritual nurturing.

11,000+

children who are vulnerable were cared for through sponsorship, and 7,000+ more received care through holistic child development programs

NOREN’S STORY At 19 years old, Noren Grace Cailing has decided to spend her weekends teaching children who are part of the TEACH program, a child development center in the Philippines. Cailing was a sponsored child herself, and she says that this is an opportunity to give back to a program that changed her life. “Being a sponsored child [gave] me more opportunities to enjoy my childhood days, as the program doesn’t just emphasize one aspect of a child’s growth,” Noren says. TEACH, which stands for Training, Equipping a Child Holistically, enabled Cailing to receive educational, physical, and spiritual support. The relationships that she had with her sponsor and mentor impacted her so much that she is pursuing a career in education. Around the world, there are many sponsored children who are able to go on to secondary education because of their experiences at child development centers. “TEACH was more than an opportunity to further my studies,” Cailing says. “It was also a call to know God deeper.”

WATER, SANITATION, AND HYGIENE (WASH) All around the world, local churches are serving their communities through water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs with the support of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries. We believe in a holistic approach to all programs, and through that combined approach, access to clean water, proper sanitation facilities, and hygiene training are all creating long-term health benefits.

We also believe that comprehensive programming goes beyond just drilling wells. Since 2017, we have supported mobilized churches as they engage their communities through hygiene training, safe water resources such as wells, and sanitation facilities.

Water, sanitation, and hygiene projects go beyond just having access to clean water. Through training and hygiene resources like latrine covers, WASH comprehensively addresses illnesses and transforms communities.
