Luke Borst Associate Professor
BS: University of Illinois DVM : University of Illinois PhD : University of Illinois Diplomate,: American College of Veterinary Pathologists Clinical Specialty: Anatomic Pathology
Research Interest: As a veterinary pathologist and microbiologist, Dr. Borst has a specific interest in the dynamics of infection at the host pathogen interface. Since coming to North Carolina State University, his laboratory has been tracking the global emergence of pathogenic strains of Enterococcus cecorum in broiler chickens. The broiler industry is a very important segment of US and NC agriculture, and Dr. Borst was fascinated by repeated outbreaks of a new disease caused by a pathogenic Enterococcus spp.

Isabel Gimeno Professor
v
DVM: Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain PhD: Universidad Complutense de Madrid Diplomate: American College of Poultry Veterinarians
Research Interests: Laboratory work includes viral
tumor diseases in poultry iwth a focus on Marek’s disease, including gene function, virus evolution, pathogenesis, diagnostic, and control. Currently, Dr. Gimeno is studying two major research lines: the first line studies immunosuppression induced by the emergent highly virulent strains of the virus in an attempt to identify mechanisms involved to develop methods of diagnostic and control; the second is the effect of Marek’s disease vaccines in the development of the immune system of the chicken when administered in ovo. Clinical Specialty: Marek’s disease and differential diagnosis with other tumor poultry diseases Contact Email: imgimeno@ncsu.edu, Office: 919.513.6852; Lab: 919.513.6333
