CANTO DE LOBOS HISTORY

Americana, Blues & Co. is a specialty show that airs Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. on WKNC. It has been on the air since spring 2007, providing listeners with a wide range of “Americana” music from country, folk, blues, old time, and bluegrass. The show has had many DJs to grace the mics, providing the Triangle with a soundtrack to their Saturday mornings. The diagram below shows connections between the different Americana DJs, who they have co-hosted with or preceded them.

"Canto de Lobos is an all-Spanish speaking music radio show. Our goal is to show the Raleigh area the diversity and beauty of Spanish music by playing all genres. We play salsa, rock, merengue, pop, rap, bachata, edm, and many more. Canto de Lobos aims to help Hispanic/Latino artists and groups by having exclusive interviews, giving away tickets, spreading news about events during the show, and more. CDL also hopes to assist those who are interested in learning Spanish. We are on Sundays from 3 to 4p.m.

“The only worthy shows to listen to on the radio are Americana, Blues & Co. and Back Porch Music, on that other station...”

DJ CJ: “The show is for the fans, all the listeners that call and write in, make the show what it is... I look forward to reading “The Row’s” letter... and playing three or four of their song requests each week. “

Wizard Dr: "I love the small network of specialty shows on KNC that fall within our genre; Both Kinds Radio (classic country), Soultown Saturdays by The Goodson, and there is a new show that plays blues and rockabilly music right before Americana. Americana, Blues & Co. has a good balance right now. I play more old time and folk, while DJ CJ takes care of the classic country and more rock inspired songs. We are always getting a lot of Americana CDs into the station every month, so there is always something new and noteworthy to play…"

CDL started as a fun idea, but it has turned into a passion for DJ Cancel and MCMC. Through the show we have gotten to showcase Hispanic/Latino music and culture. We hope to inspire future generations to do the same in order to spread diversity throughout NCSU and the Raleigh area."
