New Explorations Natural Curiosities is a Californian Art House founded by British-born artist Christopher Wilcox. With a passionate team of fine artists, designers, archivists, photographers and treasure hunters, Natural Curiosities has become the destination for high-end Art. Headquartered within a converted 1920s bowling alley, our multifaceted design studio pulses with creativity and each day holds a different type of creative magic. Our Warhol-esque studio is in constant motion with sounds of ink being pulled across silkscreens, gold and silverleaf being meticulously applied, the velvety movement of paint mixing, clicking of the camera shutter, steel bolts tightening on botanical presses and the unwrapping of curious objects and specimens. This allows a continual flow of creative thinking to be an essential part of our daily lives. We are not only hand-making authentic and beautiful art, we are living it. Paule Marrot Collection Art: 54" × 42" | Framed: 56" ×× 44" Giclée Prints on Archival Paper Custom Acrylic Frame Pieces Shown: Lillies, Feathers Natural Curiosities recently acquired the beautiful textile archives of French engraver, painter, and textile artist Paule Marrot (1902-1987). Early in her career, Marrot shifted her emphasis from painting to textiles to create expressive patterns from the 1920s through the 1950s. Marrot’s bold use of flowers, color and patterns reflect a compositionally modernist style classically associated with the Art Deco movement. Marrot’s artistic influences include the expressive writings of Marcel Proust, as evident in her work Du coté de chez Swann, based on Proust’s book In Search of Lost Time. There are additional pieces in this collection. Please view more online at naturalcuriosities.com.

Modern Color Studies: Rectangles Art: 32" × 21" | Framed: 35.125" ×× 24.125" Silkscreen on Japanese Paper White Space Shadowbox, 0.6875" width Pieces Shown: (top) 9, 5, 3; (middle) 8, 6, 2; (bottom) 7, 4, 1 This series of one-color silkscreen prints was inspired by the paintings of Mark Rothko, in which big color fields interact with each other. The prints are on a beautiful Japanese style Bhutan Paper, made with 100% Mitsumata fibers, acid-free and unsized. These prints are pure in the way that they are all about the color and the paper. The absence of shapes allows us to experience the beauty of the isolated color. These prints evoke a feeling of Zen that is very calming in any space. Due to the natural variance of handmade work and use of unique specimen, each piece is one of a kind.

Audubon Long-Billed Curlew Art: 63" × 42" | Framed: 65" ×× 44" Giclée Print on Archival Paper Custom Acrylic Frame Sourced from work by master naturalist and painter John James Audubon, this piece holds great significance to Christopher. Growing up in Cornwall, England allowed Christopher a unique opportunity to study birdlife in the beautiful estuaries that surround so much of the landscape. One of the sounds that echoes across the large open waters is that of Curlews. Their unique noises led them to become one of Christopher’s favorite birds. Curlews’ migration patterns take them from England to America; Christopher saw a parallel between these birds’ migratory journey and his own.
