Dennis Chapman Named as New Head for The Village School

he Village School of Naples (TVS) has appointed a new head of school – only the second in the history of TVS. Dennis Chapman replaces Ginger Sauter, who has retired from that post after 25 years. Chapman comes to TVS from The New School in Arkansas, where he also was head of school. Family Fun Day to Raise Funds for Research into Rare Disease

ne Small Step is hosting its first event to raise funds and awareness about Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS), a rare genetic disorder. The family fun day will be held at Estero Community Park on Saturday, Feb. 17, and will feature live entertainment, face painting, kids’ crafts, food trucks, an obstacle course, raffle, silent auction, and more. PWS is a complex, life-threatening disorder that encompasses a wide range of medical and developmental issues, and for which there is no cure. The most challenging symptom is chronic hunger. PWS tricks the brain into thinking the body is starving, all of the time. Money raised during the event will go to the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research, a nonprofit that is working to advance treatment options, eliminate challenges, and find a cure. 26 Collier County Students Chosen for State Music Convention

ollier County was well represented at last month’s Florida Music Educator Association annual conference in Tampa, as 26 middle and high school students from both public and private schools were chosen to participate in band, orchestra, and choral ensembles. Among the 11 Collier middle school students were flute players Rachel Newman (Pine Ridge Middle School) and Ellie Carvajal (Cypress Palm Middle School), who were selected for the AllState Middle School Band. More than 1,000 students from across the state auditioned last fall for each ensemble.

Collier County Lacrosse Association Hires Former Pro Player

rett Queener, who played professionally for 10 years with the Premier Lacrosse League and Florida Launch, has been named director of player development by the Collier County Lacrosse Association (CCLAX). Queener will be coaching the spring season of CCLAX, a feeder lacrosse league of boys ages 5 to 14, as well as training coaches and leading specialty clinics and events with other pro lacrosse players. Preventing School Bus Stop Accidents

ince the start of the 2018-2019 school year, deputies with our Safety & Traffic Enforcement Bureau (STEB) have been conducting school bus details along routes where bus drivers have witnessed the highest number of infractions. The details have been done in conjunction with the Collier County Public Schools. During the details, a deputy rides on the school bus, radioing violations to motorcycle deputies on the ground. Using this method, our deputies have been able to directly witness violations and pull over the offenders, issuing citations for those who have broken various traffic laws. “Generally every year we get complaints either from the school board or from parents at school bus stops,” said Sgt. Terence Smith of STEB. “We wanted to get out there before we get a complaint,” Sgt. Smith said. The most common complaint the Collier County Sheriff ’s Office receives regarding school buses, according to Sgt. Smith, is for drivers who are passing stopped buses. Florida law requires motorists to stop upon approaching any school bus displaying its flashing red lights. The only exception is when a vehicle is traveling in the opposite direction of the school bus on a divided highway with an unpaved space of at least five feet or when traveling on a divided highway with a raised median or a

physical barrier. So far, citations have ranged from passing a school bus to driving without a license to red light running. Each of the violators caught passing a stopped school bus is given a $268 ticket. Violators also will face mandatory court appearances for passing on the right side of the school bus where students board the bus. Sgt. Smith said the initiative was prompted in part by serious injuries to

students boarding buses in other parts of the country last year. Thankfully, no such injury has taken place in our county this year. If you witness school bus violations along a particular school bus route, report your concerns to the Collier County Sheriff ’s Office’s Zoom Traffic hotline at 239530-9666. A New High School for CCPS

here’s a new high school coming to Collier County … that is, in 2023! The site, currently known as High School “GGG,” is located near Veterans Memorial Elementary and North Naples Middle schools. It will enable Collier County Public Schools (CCPS) to address the overcrowding at the high school level, specifically Gulf Coast High School. Many people are unaware of the criteria that the district must meet in order to build a new school. We, as a district, cannot just build a school when we feel one is needed. There are state statutes that grant the Florida Department of Education and Board of Governors the power and duty to approve all new traditional public school facilities. We are required to demonstrate the need and receive their approval, which is done through a Plant Survey (facilities inventory and student station data), Capital Outlay Full-time Equivalent projections, and a Facilities Work Plan.

In addition to demonstrating that we have already exceeded capacity at a particular school level, we must also demonstrate that future growth at this level will continue and utilize up to 95% of the new capacity generated within five years of being built. Yes, the planning for High School GGG has been extensive and the district’s proactive approach should be applauded. In fact, it started more than 20 years ago. The property for the new high school was acquired by the district on July 5, 2001. Thanks to the forethought of past board members and the continuing work of the current board, this new high school should be paid for in full before the first student steps foot on campus. This will mean millions of dollars of savings to taxpayers as the district will not have to take on any debt. s a pediatric dentist working in both public health and private practice, I find that parents often have similar questions when it comes to their child’s dental health. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) encourages parents and other care providers to help every child establish a dental home by the age of 1. What is a dental home? A dental home is the ongoing relationship between dentist and patient, inclusive of all aspects of oral health. The dental home should be established no later than 12 months of age to help children and their families institute a lifetime of good oral health. A dental home focuses on preventing dental diseases and providing treatment and referral services to dental specialists when appropriate. Whether this dental home is located in a private practice, a community health center, or at a neighborhood hospital, it should be supervised by dentists trained in primary pediatric care. Why should my child go to the dentist? The AAPD recommends a child’s first dental visit to occur within six months of the eruption of the first baby teeth, because many children by the age of three already have tooth decay. Also, children who have experienced tooth decay are prone to reoccurring decay. Regular dental visits are important in helping your child stay cavity free. What are dental caries? Dental caries are tooth decay. It happens when specific types of bacteria produce acid that destroys the enamel (the white part of the tooth) and the dentin (the inner layer of the tooth). Dental caries can cause pain when chewing and sensitivity to sweets and hot or cold foods or drinks. What can I do to help my child from getting cavities? Visiting the dentist by the time your child is a year old, establishing good oral habits, and avoiding food and beverages that are high in fermentable carbohydrates, such as juices, cookies, candies, sodas, and food that stick to the teeth and are slow to dissolve. What are good oral habits? Good oral habits should begin before your child begins teething. Caregivers should clean a child’s mouth after feeding. As your child grows older, teeth should be brushed at least two times a day (morning and night) and flossed at least one time (preferably at bedtime). You should start flossing for your child once teeth are touching. Some children might need help from a caregiver in their daily oral hygiene. If you have a teenager, you should check on their oral hygiene at least 2-3 times a week. What is usually done at my child’s dental visit? A complete dental exam will determine whether your child has cavities. Your child may need x-rays, a dental cleaning, and fluoride. Your dentist will let you know if your child needs to return every six months or more often for a checkup. Your pediatric dentist will also let you know when it is time for your child to see an orthodontist for possible braces and an oral surgeon for a wisdom teeth evaluation. cally, such as in drinking water, and topically, such as in toothpaste or professionally administered at the dentist. Research shows that tooth brushing with fluoride significantly reduces the formation of dental caries in baby teeth. How much toothpaste should I use when my child brushes their teeth? Use no more than a smear or rice-size amount of fluoridated toothpaste for children less than three years of age or if your child is unable to spit after brushing. A pea-size amount of fluoridated toothpaste is appropriate for children ages three to six. Parents or caregivers should apply the toothpaste on the toothbrush for their child when they are younger. How can I get my child to brush? When your child is younger than three years old or has some special needs, it is recommended that parents or caregivers brush the child’s teeth. As they grow older, children can brush with minimal or no supervision after meals, but at bedtime an adult should brush. Parents can make it a fun experience by singing a fun song, buying a toothbrush that your child has chosen, and using kid’s toothpaste. You can also brush your teeth as a family. My dentist told me that my child has a cavity; should the cavity be fixed? Depending on the size of the cavity, your dentist will let you know what type of treatment will be needed to treat the decay. It is important to fix a cavity on a baby tooth if needed to prevent the cavity from getting larger, dental abscesses, or even extraction of the tooth. Now that my child has permanent teeth, I was told he needs sealants. What are sealants? Sealants protect the chewing surface of the tooth (back teeth) where most cavities in children are found. They are made of clear or shaded plastic and keep your child’s teeth cavity free. Sealants can last for years if your child has good oral hygiene and does not bite on hard objects and foods such as hard candies. Your pediatric dentist will check the sealants at each checkup and recommend repair or re-application as necessary. Sealants also can be placed on baby molars when needed, such as for kids that are at high risk for cavities. NEAPOLITANfamily • February 2019

Avoid This Major Mistake When Adding an IRA to Your Estate Plan

ome people assume that because they’ve named a specific heir as the beneficiary of their IRA in their will or trust that there’s no need to list the same person again as beneficiary in their IRA paperwork. Because of this, they often leave the IRA beneficiary form blank or list “my estate” as the beneficiary. But this is a major mistake – and one that can lead to serious complications and expense. IRAs aren’t like other estate assets First off, your IRA is treated differently than other assets, such as a car or house, in that the person you name on your IRA’s beneficiary form is the one who will inherit the account’s funds, even if a different person is named in your will or in a trust. Your IRA beneficiary designation controls who gets the funds, no matter what you may indicate elsewhere. Given this, you must ensure your IRA’s beneficiary designation form is up to date and lists either the name of the person you want to inherit your IRA, or the name of the trustee of your trust, if you want it to go to a revocable living trust or special IRA trust you’ve prepared. For example, if you listed an ex-spouse as the beneficiary of your IRA and forget to change it to your current spouse, your ex will get the funds when you die, even if your current spouse is listed as the beneficiary in your will. Probate problems Moreover, not naming a beneficiary, or naming your “estate” in the IRA’s beneficiary designation form, means your IRA account will be subject to the court process called probate. Probate costs unnecessary time and money and guarantees your family will get stuck in court. When you name your desired heir on the IRA beneficiary form, those funds will be available almost immediately to the named beneficiary following your death, and the money will be protected from creditors. But if your beneficiary has to go through probate to claim the funds, he or she might have to wait months, or even years, for probate to be finalized. Plus, your heir may also be on the hook for attorney and executor fees, as well as potential liabilities from creditor claims, associated with probate, thereby reducing the IRA’s total value.

ineligible for a valuable tax-savings option known as the “stretch provision” that would be available had you named the appropriate beneficiary. Typically, when an individual is named as the IRA’s beneficiary, he or she can choose to take only the required minimum distributions over the course of his or her life expectancy. “Stretching” out the payments in this way allows for much more tax-deferred growth of the IRA’s invested funds and minimizes the amount of income tax due when withdrawals are made. However, if the IRA’s beneficiary designation lists “my estate” or is left blank, the option to stretch out payments is no longer available. In such cases, if you die before April 1 of the year you reach 70½ years old (the required beginning date for distributions), your estate will have to pay out all of the IRA’s funds within five years of your death. If you die after age 70½, the estate will have to make distributions over your remaining life expectancy. This means the beneficiary who eventually gets your IRA funds from your estate will have to take the funds sooner, and pay the deferred taxes upon distribution. This limits the opportunity for additional tax-deferred growth of the account and requires him or her to pay a potentially hefty income tax bill. A simple fix Fortunately, preventing these complications is easy – just be sure to name your chosen heir as beneficiary in your IRA paperwork (along with a couple alternate beneficiaries). And remember to update the named beneficiary if your life circumstances change, such as after a death or divorce. If you create a trust, a common tool used to avoid probate and control the way you devise assets to heirs, you can name your trust as the beneficiary on your retirement account. And as long as your trust is carefully drafted, your beneficiaries can take advantage of tax deferred growth.

Reduced growth and tax savings Another big problem caused by naming your estate in the IRA beneficiary designation or forgetting to name anyone at all is that your heir will lose out on an important opportunity for tax savings and growth of the funds. This is because the IRS calculates how the IRA’s funds will be dispersed and taxed based on the owner’s life expectancy. Since your estate is not a human, it’s NEAPOLITANfamily • February 2019

Adding Life Skills to Your Homeschool Routine

hen my husband and I originally discussed homeschooling, one of the big deciding factors was that we would have more opportunities to teach real life skills to our children. I pictured myself teaching them to cook, starting a garden and growing our own food, building things, and involving them in things like business and taxes. I set out with the best intentions. A few months into homeschooling, I looked back to realize we had done a lot of worksheets and zero life skills, unless you count making cookies from pre-made dough. More seasoned homeschoolers had previously warned me that I would try to imitate school at home during my first year. I nodded politely while reassuring myself in my head that I knew better. After all, I knew the reasons I wanted to homeschool. Yet there I was, demanding my son sit and do worksheet after worksheet, never making time for anything else. I felt like public school didn’t offer

enough recess time for a kindergartener, yet I made my son a prisoner of our dining room table. It was then that I took a step back, reminded myself why we chose homeschool to begin with, and changed our homeschool routine. Adding life skills to your homeschool curriculum may seem like something that is just going to happen naturally, when in reality it’s something you have to be intentional about. Planning ahead of time I thought that I would effortlessly include the kids in life skills throughout each day, but that wasn’t happening as I just tried to get through my chores as quickly as possible. I had to become much more intentional about what skills we were going to cover and when. I started by making a list of things I would like the kids to learn, keeping in mind what is reasonable at their age. I keep the list in my weekly lesson plans book, so as I plan the week

ahead I am reminded to work in time for life skills. Just the simple task of seeing that list and adding to it often keeps it in the forefront of my mind, and I find it easier to stop and include them in things I am doing throughout the day. I’ve been surprised to see how they have changed in a short time, proudly taking the initiative to do things they’ve learned need to be done around the house. I am starting to see myself become less of a control freak too, with practice. Logging life skills As a new homeschool parent, I felt paranoid about keeping a portfolio of our work. It felt like it didn’t happen, or didn’t matter, if it wasn’t somehow logged in the portfolio. To calm my nerves, I started making logs and certificates for life skills. I thought this step was more for me so I didn’t stress, but it turns out it’s highly motivating for the kids as well. It gives them a sense of accomplishment that NEAPOLITANfamily • February 2019

makes them want to learn and do more. Being open to learning new skills: I never even learned to iron clothes when I was growing up and still don’t know how to sew. I mentioned building things and gardening, yet I’ve never actually done either. One thing I love about intentionally teaching life skills to our kids is that I get to learn along with them. I probably would never take the time to teach myself some of these things if it wasn’t for homeschooling. It’s fun to learn new things together. In doing so, we are teaching another life skill – to always be open to learning new things, and willing to jump in and figure things out! As the kids get older the options for life skills they can learn obviously increase. Many of the homeschoolers I know do personal finance and leadership classes in high school, among other things. Keep a list that you and your children can add to whenever new ideas come to mind, and be intentional about making those things happen! Family Recipes from the Heart for Valentine’s Day

alentine’s Day holds a special place in my heart, and it’s not because of romantic love. My mom adores Valentine’s Day, and she has created various traditions surrounding the holiday. Growing up, she taped pieces of candy in the shape of a heart on our bathroom mirror for us to find when we woke up. She always made a special dinner and served it at our fancy dining room table (complete with personalized place cards and love notes). And there were always a couple of small gifts for each of us. In the bleak, desolate, slushy, gloomy Illinois winter, it was an event we looked forward to each year. I’m not suggesting you do this, and I’m definitely not suggesting you post it on social media. You see, I have utterly failed in carrying the torch in this area, and I’d prefer not to compare myself to you, which I will inevitably do. However, if you would like to make Valentine’s Day special for your family, I have a few recipes to share in honor of love. And, who knows, maybe this will be the year I pull it together for my own little family.

Heart-Shaped Pizza Y Y Y (Adapted from pauladeen.com) Y A friend of mine used to get Middle Eastern take-out food and go see a movie each year Y with her husband on Valentine’s Day. Thirteen years of marriage and four kids later, Y they now make heart-shaped pizza each Valentine’s Day with their girls. It’s simple and Y special. Y Y 5 cups all-purpose flour 2 packages active dry yeast Y 2 tablespoons sugar Y 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided Y 2 teaspoons salt Y 2 cups warmed water Y Y In a stand mixer with a hook attachment, place the warm water, yeast, and sugar, along Y with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Allow to sit until yeast begins to foam (about 10 minutes). Y Add flour and salt, and mix the dough until it is smooth and pulls away from the side Y of the bowl. Drizzle half of the remaining olive oil over the top of the dough. Turn the dough over in the bowl cover and allow it to rise to approximately twice its size (about Y an hour). Punch the dough down, and pour out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead the Y dough for a couple minutes. Place it back in a bowl and drizzle with the remaining olive Y oil. Turn over the dough, cover, and allow to rise a second time for about an hour. After Y it has risen, punch it down again. Y Form the dough into two large heart-shaped pizza crusts. Helping Your Family Cope With the Death of a Pet

ecently, our beloved family pet, Scooter, lost her battle with a chronic illness. When it came time to say goodbye, our whole family experienced profound grief. It was devastating! When I learned that research has shown that losing a pet can be just as painful as losing a relative or friends, I was not surprised. As we dealt with our grief, a few things made the experience a tiny bit more bearable. If your family is facing or has faced the loss of a pet, then perhaps these things will help you cope with pet loss grief. My hope is that you and your kids may find comfort, too. Maintain routines with your other pets If you have other living pets, then try to maintain their routines. Remember they are grieving the loss of a companion, too. Animals, like kids, thrive on routine and structure. So it is important to walk and feed them at the same time as usual. Also, be understanding about any behavior changes, such as hiding, that may be their way of dealing with the loss. Memorialize your pet As time passed, our family was able to deal with our grief by memorializing Scooter’s memory. I gave each of my children pic-

tures of them with her. My daughter displayed them on her desk while my son quietly kept them in a stack by his bedside. I made a photo book of all our pictures of her. Both the process of creating the book and the end result were cathartic. Finally, our family decided we wanted to display her footprints the vet had cast on her last day. We see them daily in a special place. Books My daughter and I checked out many books from the library on losing a pet. The children’s librarian was so helpful in this regard, guiding us toward books that were the appropriate level for my daughter and not too babyish. In particular, I liked a non-fiction book that had short, simple ways to grieve called, “Healing Your Grieving Heart for Kids”. It wasn’t aimed at pet loss in particular, but it was helpful in providing acceptance of grief and ways to survive/manage it. Toys for stress relief My daughter packed me a care package to take to work after Scooter died. It had lovely smelling thinking putty that I pulled out and sniffed, plus a squishy toy that I pressed. When your pet needs life-saving veterinary care to diagnose and treat a disease, the cost can run hundreds or thousands dollars per month. Unfortunately, many people are forced to either euthanize their pet or surrender their pet to a shelter because they are unable to pay the bills. Here are some vet bill assistance resources, who also take donations.

• If your children are older, encourage them to have a say in the decision to end your pet’s suffering and to accompany your pet to the vet so they can see that euthanasia is peaceful and not painful. For younger children, being honest about the pet’s future and reassuring them that their pet will not feel fear or pain is just as important. • Have a memorial service for your pet. Family and friends can write letters about their favorite memories with the pet and read them aloud. • Donate to a local animal shelter or a vet bill relief organization in memory of your loved one. • If possible, make a paw print of your pet prior to their passing, and frame it. Many pet cremation services offer a ceramic paw print plate or memento as an option. • Purchase a wooden urn for your pet’s ashes with an engraved image or a photo frame. • Plant a tree at your pet’s burial site of their body or their ashes. • Honor your pet by adopting a rescue pet.

Her good qualities, fond memories, even the events of her last weekend and having to take her to the vet. Talking helped me. Meanwhile, it did not help my husband or my daughter with their pet loss grief. They did not want to talk about it as it made them too sad. You will find what works for you, and know that it might not be the same for everyone.

Loving again About two months after Scooter was gone, we realized that it was not so painful to think about cats anymore. And while we missed Scooter, we also missed having a furball around to love. There are so many cats who need homes that we decided to adopt two cats together. These two do not replace Scooter, but they make our hearts swell again. I hope that if you have lost a pet, that you have found your way back to a good place again. Other people who have lost a pet get it; don’t worry about those who do not understand. BLACK HISTORY MONTH

r. Martin Luther King, Jr., quotes may abound this time of year, for MLK Day of Service or Black History Month, but perhaps it’s worthy to go back to his last, but timeless, Christmas sermon. “The Christmas hope for peace and goodwill toward all men can no longer be dismissed as a kind of pious dream of some utopia. If we don’t have good will toward men in this world, we will destroy ourselves by the misuse of our own instruments and our own power.” Regardless of your politics on the issues of the day, race is on the evening news. Our children are often exposed to very adult conversations about race. This reality may beg the question, how do I talk about race with my child? As with any issue, behaviorists tell us, the first rule of thumb is to model the behavior you want. 1. Practice diversity. Be a good race relations role model. Demonstrate positive race relations in practical ways in your own life by demonstrating diversity. Ask yourself, do I have friends of other races? If most of your friends are from your own race and culture, you may want to consider opportunities for you and your child to interact with other races and cultures. Attend a different church on Sunday. Observe how they worship. Find something to appreciate about it and comment on it to your child. You may find yourself asking, do I openly and verbally ap-

preciate other races and cultures in front of my child? If you see a television program about a different culture, use the opportunity to discuss a different way of life and worldview. Find one thing you like about it and state it out loud. 2. Listen first. Don’t assume shared understandings about race. Sociologist assert that children construct differences and similarities differently than adults. Children notice differences quite early developmentally but it may be for reasons that interest children, and not as adults define the difference. A teacher noticed that six-year-old girls on a playground were not playing with one girl in particular, who was African American. The astute teacher listened first before intervening and found that the majority of the girls preferred to play with girls who wore their hair with ribbons instead of girls who didn’t use ribbons. The African American girl didn’t use ribbons in her hair. She was excluded from conversations and games. The girls were not excluding her because of race but because of ribbons. To adult eyes, the game looked racist but to the children controlling the game, it made sense. The teacher then noticed one girl sharing her ribbons with the African American girl. The teacher chose to intervene in that moment and praised the sharing behavior. She talked about inclusion. 3. Answer your child’s questions about race and culture in an age appropriate way. Psychiatrist Alvin Poussaint, M.D, states that there are two critical development ages when race and culture questions are likely to occur: ages six to eight years old and the teenage years. These are times when the child’s world is expanding and values are forming or solidifying. Responding to a child’s questions at these stages in simple, honest terms is important. Even a response of “I don’t know” or “let’s read about that” can show you are open to learning about different cultures, customs, and communities. When your child comes home and declares a classmate has an Asian mom and a black dad and says, “Isn’t that weird? You may choose to say, “Not weird, just different.” When your teen asks, what you think about his school renaming its sports teams because Native Americans find “Redskins” to be offensive, you can use it as an opportunity to discuss your own believes about racial slurs while demonstrating respect that others might not see it the same way. If we heed Dr. King’s words, vision, and example, we can intervene on the divisions in the nation, in our own homes every day.

Your Child and the Benefits of Learning a Second Language

e hear so much these days about a “globally diverse community” and, well, we should because our children will have the opportunity to travel more than we ever did and will be exposed to many diverse cultures in their lifetime. One way to help prepare young children for their future in the adult world is to expose them to a second language at an early age. Studies show that there are optimal times for the brain to “hear” and be able to duplicate correctly the sounds of a second language. The earlier the exposure begins, the better to achieve native-like grammar and pronunciation. Research also shows that immersion in a language is far better than introducing a new language in several lessons a week. The learner needs opportunities to hear, imitate sounds, and absorb grammatical patterns. While there is a lot of ongoing discussion on how and when to learn a second language, scholars agree there are definite benefits, including: • enjoyment of communication increases with development of several languages; • a greater appreciation of diversity is developed; • success in English is also increased;

• the brain is able to “compartmentalize” different languages with no confusions; • students who know several languages score higher on standardized tests such as the SAT; • math scores and problem solving abilities are increased; • multilingual individuals are better prepared to find jobs in business, politics, the military, and other global professions. Some children have a greater aptitude for language learning than others. This aptitude is broken down into skills that include sensitivity to sound and structure for learning pronunciation and grammar, and memory for learning new words and meanings. If your school offers second languages, that’s wonderful. If not, perhaps you can find local language centers or schools specializing in immersion language instruction. Another way to approach instruction of a second language is the use of various pre-packaged programs at home. They usually include a combination of books, workbooks, and DVDs or CDs. Here are some of the best:

Muzzy. French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Chinese. Language Adventure. Spanish, French, Japanese, Italian, and German. Eazyspeak. French, Spanish, and German. Jumpstart. French, Japanese, and Spanish. Kidspeak. Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Hebrew. Language learning websites for children are a wonderful way to gain language exposure. Try Chillola, Duolingo, Kids Web Japan, or Voyage Kids. And finally, even selective television watching can offer a bilingual component to a child’s life. So give your children or grandchildren a boost in their overall learning and open doors to future travel, careers, and love of communicating in our ever-expanding global community. Expose them to a second or third language and, here’s a great idea, why don’t you join in the fun and begin to learn a new language right along with your kids!
