Dear Majura FC players, coaches, officials, parents and spectators, I write to remind you of your behaviour responsibilities when attending football activities or representing Majura FC. Recently there have been a number of incidents where people have behaved poorly, particularly with regard to addressing referees. Majura FC has had 3 junior referees leave the club in the last 10 months due to the poor behaviour of adults. Any Majura FC player, coach, official, parent or spectator found to be acting in a manner that contravenes the FFA Code of Conduct or the Australian Sports Commission’s Codes of Behaviour should expect to be sanctioned by the Majura FC Committee. Penalties may include match suspensions or, if severe or repeat offences occur, expulsion from the club. You are expected to:

ensure your comments are always positive; respect the referee at all times; and not engage in any taunting of or arguing with opposition players, coaches, or parents.

We are all here for the benefit of the children who play football for Majura FC. We are also responsible for setting a good example for the children, which includes looking after our junior referees. The referees are people too, and will make mistakes from time to time; that is part of the game. REMEMBER, IT IS JUST A GAME. I do hope this is the last time I have to send out a reminder such as this. Best of luck for the remainder of the season, and most of all enjoy yourselves. Rhonda Parkin, Club President

But what about the other talented/enthusiastic Majura kids who miss out. Should we introduce summer fun game based development program over term 4 for players who love their football? Again we need volunteers to take it on in some format. Selection Policy: Graded teams from Age 11. The Majura Committee is currently reviewing this process. Got some thoughts on any of the above? Coaching Question: How do you get Under 8, 9 and 10’s to pass and move. Well it depends on the age and group of players you are working with. But here are a couple of drills that may help. Assuming by now most players have had some intensive passing and receiving drills it’s time to get them moving. 1. Introduce three/four players into a square with a triangle marked out in the middle. 2. Place players towards the perimeter of the square. Players have to pass the ball around the triangle, never through. And the ball must stay in the square. 3. Focus on player movement and quality passing. Take two touches if necessary.

Under 11 Boys

4. Remove a player so there is only three in the square.

Under 13 Boys Under 14 Girls

A-League season 5 starts in August 6th. W-League and Canberra United start October. Socceroos next game is against Ireland, in Limerick (August 17)

Drill two: Now players can score a “goal” by passing to another player through the triangle but at least one pass must go around it to start. How many “goals” can they score in a minute? Drill three. Add in a defender. The defender can only move along the sides of the triangle aiming to block the pass through. Players gradually learn to move the ball quickly around the triangle, move into position and aim to get an opportunity to “score.”

2009 Kanga Cup: Majura celebrate.

News in brief. Discussion forum The Majura Quiz Volunteers’ Salute Coaching Corner Player Profile: Ruth Kravis Andrew Palm Kanga Cup Under 10 Boys Under 11 Boys Under 13 Boys

Majura at the Kanga Cup Opening Ceremony. Majura entered a record 9 teams in the 2009 Kanga Cup and came away with one cup, three fair play awards and some wonderful experiences. The Majura Hurricanes successfully defended the Cup they won as 13 Girls in 2008, with a thrilling come from behind win against Woden 2-1 to claim the 14 Girls title for 2009. But just as proudly Majura teams also claimed three prestigious Fair Play awards - 11 Boys Gladiators, 12 Boys Reds and 13 Girls Eagles.

Under 14 Girls A feature of the week was how often Majura teams were drawn in very strong groups involving the eventual champions. The 10 Boys Knights actually beat the eventual Plate winner 3-0 in their pool match, before missing out on the play off round by a single point. The Gladiators did superbly to make the play offs Players with good 1 v 1 skills often make a difference in games at all levels. A feint, a trick, a dribble, a change of pace. Never criticise a player attempting to beat an opponent. FFA Coaching

The 12 boys did superbly to top their group, before back to back qualifying games on Thursday put them out of the final. The 13 boys had to play back to back play off games after finishing 2nd in their group to the eventual champions and won the 2nd, after a very hard fought loss again against the cup champions in the first match. The 13 girls were the real hard luck story of the week. They had both the finalists in their group, yet beat the runners up, and lost only in the final minute to the champions. Had that goal not been scored they would have made the final, and almost certainly won it. The 15 boys also finished strongly with wins in their final 2 pool matches and were beaten only by the 2 eventual finalists. Well done to all Majura teams on a brilliant week. Kanga Cup Team reports

News in brief.

10 Boys Walleroos: Later starts wanted.

Discussion forum

The Walleroos u10 boys team were entered in the Cup competition. The team was formed from players from 3 Majura teams and a Radford ring-in 3 weeks before the competition. They were entered in the cup competition to give them a taste of the elite level of competition they may not otherwise experience.

The Majura Quiz Volunteers’ Salute Coaching Corner Player Profile: Ruth Kravis Andrew Palm Kanga Cup Under 10 Boys Under 11 Boys

The boys played 3 interstate teams and one Canberra team. All of the games were very competitive and played in great spirit. The intensity and tempo of the games were high as was the skill level and the boys were not out of place in this company. Our first game was against Fairfield Colts. The Walleroos lead 1 - 0 for most of the first half, with Fairfield eventually winning 3 - 1, the same score that they eventually won the Cup final against Brisbane Athletic.

It is necessary to begin at the beginning. The beginning in football is to give young players the chance to master the ball. Mastery is technique Gerard Houlier, Fmr Liverpool Coach

www.majurajsc.org.au

Our next game against Gungahlin on a freezing morning showed the steely resolve of our boys. 3 times they came back from a goal down before being denied a penalty in the last 5 minutes as the game finished 4 - 3 to Gungahlin. The next pool game against Colo Cougars was an extremely tight affair finishing 1 - 0 to Colo. As a development exercise the tournament was very valuable and the boys, coach and managers will benefit from it, as we played against quality opposition and found out what it takes to compete at this level. We also enjoyed good camaraderie with the other teams as well as mutual respect. I'm sure that this time next year when the memory of the inconvenience of 9:30 starts is dulled and the thrill of the competition burns strongly everyone will be keen for more , hopefully not at 9:30 in the morning though! A last minute entry to the Kanga Cup by the Majura Gladiators resulted in a fantastic week of football enjoyed by competitors and parents.

Volunteers’ Salute Coaching Corner Player Profile: Ruth Kravis Andrew Palm

Five games in four days lifted the spirits of the Gladiators and gave them the confidence to play to their potential, and true to their name. Thanks to John Cullen (Kieran’s dad), a brilliant coach, who took the week off work to coach and nurture the boys to win 3 out of 5 games.

The boys made it to the semi finals and were defeated by Colo. They were defeated only by match points but not in pride as the week concluded with the Gladiators being awarded the boys U11’s Plate Fair Play award.

John’s philosophy in coaching is that in order to achieve the best outcome for the team, players need to work hard together in supporting each other. The boys worked hard to achieve this throughout the week, a great lesson in football and in life.

13 Boys: What a start! A combined Div 1/2 Majura team entered the U13 Boys Plate with Jo Smith as our coach and had an interesting week with some unexpected dramas! However, it was a great opportunity for the players to gain more match experience.

Volunteers’ Salute Coaching Corner Player Profile:

Unfortunately our first scheduled match resulted in a forfeit as our opponents never turned up! No advice had been given to the Kanga Cup office until that afternoon when we heard that the team we were scheduled to play had formally withdrawn.

Ruth Kravis Andrew Palm Kanga Cup Under 10 Boys Under 11 Boys Under 13 Boys Under 14 Girls

So we went into our second match (with the subsequent Plate winner) at a bit of a disadvantage, not having had the opportunity to play together as a team. But it’s one the risks you take, as well as not knowing which pool you’ll end up in. Early in this match one of our players incurred a Red Card for an accidental handball, and was unable to play for the remainder of that match AND the next one! This was a tough lesson as it was the team’s first ‘Red Card’ experience, and it was very challenging playing for 55 minutes with only 10 players instead of 11. But it’s all experience and thankfully the week improved after this, resulting in a couple of good wins.

A:League Prediction Season 5.

So for those that haven’t played a Kanga Cup and are interested in playing next year, tell your coach or manager at the beginning of the season so they can start planning early to form a team. We’re lucky to have this tournament in Canberra so I recommend taking advantage of it next winter!

Sydney FC to win! Just joking! but I could be right. And watch former Majura boy 18 year old Kofi Danning make an impact.

The girls entered the game as underdogs, overcame the loss of their goalkeeper 30 minutes before kickoff and a 1-0 deficit at half time to beat Woden 2-1.
