Gala Day

Welcome everyone, to what I’m sure will be another successful season for our over 660 registered players at Belwest along with their families and all of our supporters!

My name is Mathew Pole and I have recently taken on the role as President of the Belwest Soccer Club.

Welcome

News Committee QuizTime

Having had 3 children involved in the club over the past 5 years, I have been able to witness the dedication of the current long serving committee members and have taken this opportunity to help continue the development of the club.

Thanks to our Major Sponsor

This development relies not only on the Belwest committee but on the support and feedback of all our members. With this in mind I would encourage everyone to be involved and provide feedback and even just have a chat to one of the committee members who are always around the ground on Saturday mornings at Latham. I am at Latham ovals most Saturday mornings, alternatively contact details are available on our website. Wishing all of our teams the best of luck for the season ahead, but most of all have FUN!! www.belwestsoccer.com

Belwest Junior Gala Day 2015. It was a football marathon for the 2015 junior gala day with a huge number games played during the day by twenty four peewee teams, eight under 7 teams, eight under 8 teams, seven under 9 teams, five under 10 teams and 1 under 11 team and u12 team. For most teams this was the first run they had together, so there was plenty of new team mates, coaches and managers for everyone to meet, and many new names to learn. Our new group of game leaders were also out in force in their brand new uniforms and had a fantastic first day.

Season 2015: Belwest U16 Girls The U16 Girls have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season winning 3 from 3. Most recently travelling to Braidwood for a game against Palerang United, the girls were excited and full of confidence heading into the match looking to continue their strong start to the season.

QuizTime

Despite a few missed opportunities and a strong defensive effort, Palerang maintained possession for majority of the half and lead 1-0 at halftime. The second half kicked off as the first had finished with Palerang maintaining possession and winning the battle in the midfield, eventually taking advantage of a mix-up at the back to score their 2nd goal.

BBQ Canteen Roster

Despite being behind the girls maintained their positive attitudes and kept their heads up, and with 15 minutes remaining the girls managed to maintain possession and build some momentum.

Some improved team communication and new found energy saw the Belwest girls put together some wonderful attacking plays resulting in 2 quick goals to Emma Montgomery & Flo Tshoji and a corner, with only 3 minutes remaining, saw Eleanor Cocks find the back of the net to seal a remarkable comeback. If the team continues to train hard, have fun and remain positive they will have a season to remember.

Wet Weather With the inclement weather we have had over the last month or so, we have thankfully only had the odd training night cancelled so far. Undoubtedly though we will see some bad weather interrupt our games and training, so here is what you need to know: Training: Check whether ACT sportsgrounds are open, from the website or phone 6207 5957 for a recorded message. Notifications will also be advised over the radio stations SSSFM (103.9), FM104.7, FM 106.3, 2CA and 2CC. If the grounds are open but the weather has turned bad, it is up to each individual club to decide whether matches to be played at their home ground proceed or not. Belwest will post a message on our website by 8.30am if games are called off at Latham. If Coaches and Managers are unsure please call the Grounds co-coordinator Brian Golledge to confirm. If you are playing at other grounds you will need to check their website for details. www.belwestsoccer.com

Issues, complaints, suggestions or praise? The beginning of each season is very busy for everyone as the club attempts to form over 70 teams comprising over 660 players from peewees through to Masters. As such we do sometimes get things wrong and do miss things. If there is an issue you see, a problem that needs attention, or something you just don’t understand please contact someone on the committee so that we can look into it for you. We may not be able to fix everything, but we will certainly try. Please don’t wait till the end of the season to tell us something. On the other hand we always love any positive feedback – at any time during the season. If you do have any issues please contact the relevant registrar for the age group, the president or vice president. Contact detail are on the website and at the end of this newsletter.

NOTE- Minimum of 4 parents required per shift 2 for the BBQ and 2 for the canteen When two teams are on the roster together, Belwest does require both teams to turn up, one can do the canteen and one can do the BBQ Teams are asked to do one 3 hour session in a season, if you do a roster between your parents they should be there no more than an hour. Parents are asked to work this out amongst themselves and give the coach and manager the time off to spend with the team playing. We do apologise as some team have to do roster twice If teams do not attend the canteen will be closed for that session
