LIFELONG LEARNING graduated from dental school in 1978 at the age of 30. My undergraduate degree was in engineering and I worked as an engineer in the polymer industry and as a chemist in the fabric dye chemical industry for four years before entering dental school.

In the early 1980s, light cured composites came into vogue and my previous background gave me special insight into this new field of dentistry. Continuing education was absolutely necessary to stay current with the technology that was being introduced rapidly. I studied with pioneers who were using these new materials even before the dental schools were introducing them to their students. The only way to gain knowledge was to attend continuing education seminars provided mostly by manufacturers. Learning became a regular part of my dental career.
