PUBLISHERS NOTE

I was extremely proud to attend the Grammy awards this year and it was definitely an experience that I must share with all my readers. As I looked around the Los Angeles Staple center, it was filled with some of the best talent our nation has to offer. It was truly an honor to be among so many talented artist and hear their stories on how they blossomed to become such an inspiration to themselves and others. I often have the pleasure of speaking to so many young artist who have a dream of one day becoming the next ludicrous, Bryan Michael Cox or Queen Latifah. It always puts a smile on my face for young artist to be inspired. Not being afraid and following your dreams is the one thing that every successful person has in common no matter what career they have chosen. BIZZYB would like to thank you for being a dedicated reader and would like to encourage you to never give up on your dreams!!!!

With this weather switching back and forth, we don’t know when spring will officially be here, but

we know it’s on the way! Here are some my favorite of the Spring 2013 makeup trends fresh off the runway:

1. Always Red: Red will never go out of style but it’s the way you wear it that will modernize it. My new favorite, the matte coral-orangey-red lip color. You don’t have to worry about staying in the lip lines perfectly, just follow these steps:

1) Apply the lip color 2) Put tissue over your lips 3) Apply baby powder with a blush brush over the tissue 4) Remove tissue and blot 5) You may have to reapply lip color but this should give you the matte look that is trending on the runway

2. Brows Galore:

Full, dramatic brows were all the rage during fashion week for Spring 2013. It’s time to make a couple of purchases for your brows. 1) A wax based brow filler with 2) an angled brow brush that together, will give you those youthful, thick brows you see in all the fashion magazines. It’s also important to stay away from over plucking or over waxing because all it does is age your face.

3. Blue Eyes: This trend is not for everyone. This for the trendy, fashion forward gal who likes to make a statement. Cobalt blue is one of the hottest colors for spring so why not have it on your eyes as well? Wet your cobalt blue eye shadow with your liner brush and create a thick winged liner for a dramatic effect, or use a blue liner to draw a thin line on the bottom lash line for more of a subtle effect. You can also interchange the color with a Kelly Green that will be just as sweet! As I always say: “Play, Play Play!!!” Happy Almost Spring!

WHAT’S MY NAME? SUGA SHANE

MIZAY

ENTERTAINMENT

WHAT’S MY NAME?

M

izay Entertainment’s Suga Shane is starting to make noise by standing at the forefront of the management company’s roster, ready and armed for southern rap domination. Hailing from Florida by way of Louisiana, the rapper of Spanish, Mexican, French and Native American descent easily stuns audiences by his alpha-male tattooed presence, his energetic party-loving electricity and his smart lines about whatever he’s feeling at the moment of inception. With a new album and mixtape due in the second quarter, this diamond in the rough has been spending two years dusting off and finally ready to shine in 2012.

“I like to present it like a rock show and a hip hop show united. That same energy.”

I

had the chance to sit down with the Atlanta-based talent and we talked about music, life as the “fun guy” and how he feels about possibly becoming rap’s next sex symbol. So you have an album and a mixtape coming out within several weeks of each other. How did that happen? “Inkaholic , which is my album, was originally intended to be a mixtape. As soon as it was finished and packaged, it was decided that it had a more album feel to it from the songs to the artwork. So I had to get a mixtape out there. That’s where Blood. Sweat. Ink. came in. That has more of a mixtape feel.” When you were working on these projects, what state of mind were you in? Where were you in life? “Honestly, I always want to have fun and that’s what I did while writing these records. A lot of my music is fun. It’s a reflection of what goes on in my life and I’m a fun guy. The songs might not be popping as far as commercial songs but I try to make feel good, fun party music. I get it turn up for the crowd. I got that high energy.” High Energy? Where did that come from? “I always been on some high energy sh*t. Growing up I was a natural daredevil. As a kid I used to climb trees, jump off them, swing from ropes. Everything I did gave me an adrenaline rush. So that stayed with me in life. And now it applies to most things, especially my music. “

17

How do you feel about people trying to categorize your sound as “rock/rap”? “Well, I want to always feel like a rockstar leading the party. I want the audience on my level with me so we can be partying together so in that sense, if you want to call it rock fine but I don’t really categorize my sound. Yeah I rap but not all my songs have a rough rock sound. To be honest I’m really creative in general so no matter what sound my music makes, it came from a canvas made from a beat and painted with words. I like to present it like a rock show and a hip hop show united. That same energy.”

SUGA SHANE

Throughout this journey, who has been your mentor? “I feel like I’m always on my own like I’m my own man. So I don’t think I have a mentor, per say. When I’m stuck or need advice or need help I’ll holler at India (Graves) and my family at Mizay. There are too many people to filter out who’s full of shit and who’s not so to play it safe I try to stay close to my family only. I can trust India with anything. And I love Deb but I don’t like to bother her. She’s always so busy so I rather just keep it business with her. “ So how it is being a part of the Mizay family? “I love it and I love what I can learn from everyone. I’ve been able to see what [other artists] go through from the beginning. I’ve seen Waka grow and transition into an artist. I watched French [Montana], Roscoe Dash to name a couple. I saw hands on a friendship level and now I understand what I have to do to also make it and how to go about things the right way.” 18

BIZZYBMAG.COM

You know you’re sexy. You know you’re going to make these girls cry. How do you feel about being a hip-hop sex symbol? Laughs. “I don’t’ know sometimes I feel like its a lot. I don’t really want to be too model-like. But if it helps, I’ll take it as it comes. I’m an artist, not a singer but I can make songs that are geared towards the ladies. If I do a song about ladies, the guys will appreciate it too. Men and women got to feel your music.”

Give me a few last words. What do you want everyone to know? “I want to be seen as entertaining. I want my concert crowds to have fun and get their money’s worth. I want them to always feel like they’re at a party. Music always reflected my life but now I’m enjoying it and having fun. I just had a baby boy, which made me more appreciative of life. IT don’t’ matter whether it’s a show or I’m out and about, I want everyone around me to be enjoying themselves. At the end of the day, these are people who are coming to my show, who will buy my music and if you don’t cater to fans you are selfish. That won’t take me anywhere. I’m a positive person and will hear that in my music. You won’t hear any depressing shit. Nobody wants to hear that shit.” How can your fans contact you? “They can hit me up on twitter or instagram @sugashanemusic. I try my hardest to interact with fans. So if they hit me up and I’m available I’ll talk to them.” 19

native of Jamaican descent currently living in Toronto has self taught himself the art of acting! From a child Cle has always played different characters just having fun not knowing it would lead him to the Big screen we can find him on today. As BIZZYB magazine interviewed Cle we were very impressed to find out that the actor has never taken any acting classes. Cle Bennet has starred in a abundance of TV shows, movies, and plays one of his most challenging but proudest moments has been playing the roll of four characters at once but bringing the audience in to believe it was four different people playing the rolls. The actor has starred in Lost girl,Breakout Kings,Shattered just to name a few and he is currently working on a TV show. 23

BIZZY B SITS DOWN WITH DJ SCREAM Interview By Beestroh

DJ Scream along with business partner Marcus “Rip” Rippey collectively turned their youthful pipe dreams of launching a music company into a multi-million dollar global brand. Their Atlanta-based Hoodrich Entertainment has become synonymous with quality street music, in addition to turning local mixtape projects into lucrative label deals and neighborhood rappers into household names. And that’s not all. The powerhouse enterprise also has a marketing arm, in addition to overseeing the careers of a squad of DJs and producers, namely DJ Spinz. The BET Hip Hop Award nominated beat architect produced the summer’s #1 Billboard charting anthem “Cashin Out” by Epic MC Ca$h Out, also a by-product of the Hoodrich machine. When platinum-selling recording artist Rick Ross was assembling his Maybach Music Group imprint, DJ Scream’s name was at the top of the call list. Actually, the Boss requested the 6’4” DJ’s presence and put him on the first jet smoking from ATL down to MIA for a pow wow that resulted in a recording contract. Now the host of Hoodrich Radio on Sirius XM and Atlanta’s Hot 107.9 is ready to take on his new title of recording artist when his debut album Long Live the Hustle drops on November 20th. Although DJ Scream graduated with a degree in Engineering from Tuskegee University, his astute business acumen easily qualifies him as having a Doctorate in Hustlenomics. Here, I ask my colleague and friend about making careers, making records and the Rozay effect. Hoodrich ENT has been responsible for helping launch the careers of leading Hip-Hop MC’s such as 2 Chainz and Future. How can you initially tell whether an artist has what it takes to be a major success?

Being a DJ and having been in the business for many years, you innately understand what people want to hear and what they’ll gravitate towards. So the music is very important; that quality sound has to be there but the artist must also have a certain personality trait that speaks louder than the music. It’s that “it” factor that you can’t quite describe but know it when you hear it and see it. I’ve become an expert in recognizing the “it” factor. What’s been the best and most difficult part of the record-making process? The best is that I get an opportunity to live out a childhood dream. Having a record with my name on it has to be the pinnacle of my career thus far. Although I’m not the musical talent, there is a certain artistic element that goes into putting a project together. It’s been challenging but I’ve enjoyed every moment. The most difficult part has to be relying on so many people to make things come together. If you’re a controlling person, this process is not for you. You’ve been able to influence a lot of people professionally, how has Rick Ross impacted you on the business tip? His nonstop grind, his focus and his pursuit of perfection in large and small things. Even though we all know perfection is unobtainable, the ability to try to reach it anyway is a remarkable and admirable character trait in my book. I’ve always given everything my name has been attached to 150% but being around Ross, that percentage is around 1000 23 BIZZYBMAG.COM now.
