WORKSHOP OVERVIEW Supervisors have the front-line responsibility to protect workers and keep the workplace safe. To fulfil this core function, a supervisor must fully understand the nature and scope of their responsibilities, along with the liabilities they face should a safety related incident occur.

The Occupational Health & Safety Act of Newfoundland and Labrador states a supervisor shall ensure, where it is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of all workers under his or her supervision. This interactive workshop will provide the information supervisors need to know to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses, to foster a safety culture in the workplace and to ensure they are fulfilling their legislative duties.

Topics will include: Safety principles and risk management l Legislation l Due Diligence l Rights and responsibilities of managers, supervisors and workers l Hazard recognition and control measures l Emergency preparedness & response l Hazards and control measures for chemical, physical and biological hazards l Ergonomics — practices to prevent musculoskeletal disorders l Workplace inspection and accident investigation l Developing and implementing effective workplace programs l Communication l Disability Management l

Upon completion of this course you will be able to: l l l l l l l

Improve understanding of applicable OH&S legislation Enhance your knowledge of health and safety responsibilities Determine ways of meeting your OH&S responsibilities Identify hazards and develop safe work practices Explore ways to effectively develop and implement an OH&S program Understand liabilities regarding non-compliance Understand and explore how to demonstrate due diligence
