Webinar Course: Solar PV Analysis with RETScreen® Overview Renewable energy technologies harness natural forces such as solar, wind and tidal to generate energy. The energy captured by renewable systems provides a clean alternative to conventional fossil fuel technologies. With increasing social and economic pressures being applied to the global market place, companies and individuals are looking to renewable energy technologies to supplement and/or replace typical power systems. In this course, participants will explore the economics of solar photovoltaic systems using Natural Resources Canada’s RETScreen® “Clean Energy Analysis Software”. The instructor, William Marshall, is a professional Engineer who is highly experienced in energy management. He has direct project knowledge of LEED®, building commissioning, HVAC design, energy auditing, building automation systems, and process improvement. He is a partner in Equilibrium Engineering Inc., an energy services firm rooted in sustainable building design and energy conservation. Who should attend this course? The primary audiences for this course are engineers, architects, technologists and other related LEED® professionals that would be responsible for managing, and/or calculating renewable energy credits as part of a LEED® project submission. Course description This 2 hour live webinar covers how renewable energy systems work, and explores how the produced energy can benefit LEED projects. This course will provide participants with the background required to effectively perform a feasibility assessment of commercial scale solar photovoltaic systems through the use of RETScreen®. Participants will gain a solid understanding of the value in prescreening for early design options, as well as for calculating the final credits available under EAc2. Note: Prior to the course, participants will be encouraged to download the free RETScreen® software, although this is not a course requirement. A portion of course time will be devoted to allowing participants to have some “hands-on” time to familiarize themselves with the software. This will ultimately make participants more comfortable using the software post-course.
