It really meant a lot to us to have the opportunity to share news about our Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles publications with the show’s viewers. We really appreciate it! Great Day Tampa Bay, featured on CBS’s Channel 10 at 9 a.m. is quickly becoming Tampa Bay’s favorite program to start the day. Co-Host Michael Clayton and I met at a charity event earlier this year and once Michael found out a little more about our local magazines
he invited me on the show for a quick segment. I was very nervous, in fact I was so worried about being late that I arrived two hours early for our live broadcast. It aired Monday, December 19th at 9 a.m. and was my first time on a morning show but Michael and Co-Host Stephanie Webb, along with the rest of the crew, made me feel right at home. I had the opportunity to quickly describe a little bit about what our magazine does in the community and talked about one of our favorite local charities we cover, ToyMakers of East Lake! It was a perfect charity to highlight because they put a smile on the faces of so many children and their

As the January 28th, Gasparilla Pirate Festival nears, the pirates are preparing for a successful and crazy party-style invasion! The Parade is FREE! The parade will start at 2…ish…..and will run until approx. 5:30 p.m. The Parade route is almost 4 miles!!! The parade begins at Bay to Bay Boulevard and Bayshore Boulevard. It continues along Bayshore Boulevard to Brorein Street, turns east on Brorein Street, then north on Ashley Drive. The parade ends at Cass Street & Ashley Drive. DRINKING, UBER & LYFT Gasparilla is a party with designated ‘wet zones’ to enjoy alcoholic beverages along the parade route. Drinks can only be consumed in those areas in plastic containers. Over 275 Cops will be out in hoards and you will encounter DUI checkpoints. Avoid trouble with UBER or Lyft to get to and from the parade. Jose Gasparilla sets sail at the south end of Hillsborough Bay around 11:30. It sails north to Seddon Channel (between Davis Island and Harbour Island), continues north and docks at the Tampa Convention Center at 1 p.m. 50 KREWES are expected to invade the bay with around 500 Pirates participating. LOCAL krewes partner with charity organizations and provide financial support for the cause. One krewe, the Theives of San Lorenzo, gives half of all its event profits to organizations such as the Ronald McDonald House and The Shriners. WHERE TO PARK & VIEW Throughout downtown Tampa and Ybor City, parking is available in various garages and lots. These garages have a onetime special event parking rate paid upon entry. It’s always nice to have a friend in the area so try your best to park at a friends home nearby if possible.

The fact that this picture in particular shows how random the drawing really was because if it were up to me to select based on
the photos, the winner would have been from a more “mom and pop” restaurant. This picture was taken at P.F. CHANG’S. The story behind the photo is pretty cute though as Mr. Gibbons explained he was on his 50th wedding anniversary dinner with his beautiful wife. The couple has been together since they were 14 years old! Congratulations again!

Community Calendar & News Briefs Frida Kahlo at The Dali Frida Kahlo at The Dali showcases the extraordinary career and life of the acclaimed 20th century artist, whose dreamlike work suggests that love and suffering create a new sense of beauty. More than 60 Kahlo pieces are on display, including 15 paintings, seven drawings and numerous personal photographs from the celebrated female artist and influential icon. The exhibition extends outdoors, where a special collection of flowers and plants representative of those in Kahlo’s own garden at Casa Azul, her home in Mexico, graces the grounds of our Avant-Garden. The exhibit is an intriguing exploration of the life of Kahlo, her striking artwork and her fascinating psyche.
