Every dish at Taso Italiano is superb!

Taso Italiano is one of those rare restaurants where every inch of the place is passion-infused, prepared with care, and plated to perfection. Classy, upscale (yet affordable), Taso Italiano is a destination spot for regulars who come from as far as Clearwater, Land O’ Lakes and Tampa for their expertly prepared dishes. Taso Italiano is just a short drive from East Lake, located at 4016 Little Road in Trinity. Many of the authentic dishes have been passed down through Taso’s family, and when you taste them you know that they’ve been created with a tenderness that you just won’t find at a chain restaurant. Owner and Chef Taso Stassi is the real deal.

Authentic and passionate about his restaurant, he and his staff greet you like family when you walk in the door with a sincere welcome and an eagerness to please. Customers are instantly transported by the upscale Italian décor designed to make you feel that you’re dining in a small Italian village, complete with the faded brick façades and the hanging lights that are twinkling from above. The pictures, photographs and pots and pans on the wall are Taso’s own family heirlooms, and were in fact, part of his father’s restaurant from Long Island, where only the best-of-the-best dined at the time. That restaurant, L’epicure, is where Taso took his first steps, being born into the kitchen and learned from some of the best French chefs in the country. See “Taso Italiano” on page 30

Guide Dogs Are a Gift of Independence for the Sight-Impaired Please Help Us Raise Funds for the 2015 Southeastern Guide Dogs Walkathon By Kim Thomas When my friend Stacey Cataldo asked me to join her team for the 2015 Southeastern Guide Dogs Walkathon in St. Petersburg on Feb. 28, it was an instant yes! I know what a huge impact a guide dog makes for its owner and we are shamelessly asking for donations! Stacey and I met about 14 years ago and there isn’t much that can stop this gal from being fiercely independent – not even being legally blind. With her guide dog Bravo to assist her, Stacey will catch a cab to the airport and fly across the country to meet her fiancé, shop for her family, or meet up with friends. She even runs with her guide dog. These amazing dogs give the gift of independence and freedom to the sight-impaired. Stacey lost her sight during pregnancy at the age of 23 from diabetic retinopathy, but her independent nature did not disappear

with her sight and that is why these dogs are so vitally important to the sight-impaired. It is their guide dogs that are truly their best friends, constant companions, safe keepers and their greatest means of independence. Southeastern Guide Dogs breeds, raises, and trains smart and loyal guide dogs and provides them at no charge to people who need them. The school receives no government funding, so they’re counting on us to support healthy puppies and on-campus training for visually impaired students. The Walkathons are the biggest fundraiser of Southeastern Guide Dogs. Stacey has had two amazingly intuitive and devoted guide dogs from Southeastern, Discovery and Bravo. Bravo came into the family to retire Discovery (who lived out his life being doted on by Stacey and her family) and now it is Bravo’s turn to retire and take it easy, as he is getting too old to keep up with the diligent job of guid-

ing a sight-impaired human. Stacey is in the process of getting a new guide dog, and as her friend, I know a little about how much training and care goes into these dogs and how their trainers really strive to match the right dog to the right person. This is a very deserving organization and we are happy to be able to participate in this year’s Walkathon. Please support our team as we support Southeastern Guide Dogs. It’s easy, just log on to guidedogswalkathon.org/stacey to join us at the event (yes, you can walk with us!) or to donate any amount and help us reach our goal of $5,000. For more information on Southeastern Guide Dogs, or to start your own team at one of the Walkathons taking place in different cities in the Tampa Bay Area from Feb. 21 – Apr. 18, visit guidedogs.org or guidedogswalkathon.org.

Fiddlers Green –Your Headquarters for St. Patrick’s Day & Every Day By Dara Tucker Legend tells that Irish fishermen dreamed of an imagined afterlife called Fiddlers Green – where there is perpetual joy, a fiddle that never stops playing and dancers that never tire. The girls are pretty, the beer is free, and there are bottles of rum growing on every tree! When owners Vince and Kelly LaMattina opened Fiddlers Green Irish Pub and Eatery the summer of 2013, they created a dream pub for the Trinity area. Vince and Kelly have several friends from Dublin and Kelly is of Irish decent, so authentic Irish food and surroundings are important to them. They knew when they opened Fiddlers Green they wanted to create an atmosphere where patrons could not only get a great meal at a fair price, but also enjoy drinks, live music and old fashioned Irish hospitality. The starters, or appetizers, at Fiddlers Green have a fantastic Irish twist to them that make you want to eat more than just one. Sausage

Rolls are traditional Irish pork sausages that are rolled in puff pastry and served with a side of mustard. Their Guinness Fries are potato fries that are topped with homemade Guinness rich gravy (oh my!) and melted mozzarella cheese. During one of my visits a fellow diner told my husband and myself Fiddlers has the best mussels appetizer she’s ever had. Vince says, “I know you wouldn’t normally think a traditional Irish Pub would be known for their mussels, but they’ve been a favorite since we’ve opened.” If you’ve never been to Fiddlers Green before you may want to try some of their traditional pub food. Vince recommends shepherds pie which has seasoned ground beef, onions, peas and carrots slow cooked in their signature Guinness brown gravy, topped with golden mashed potatoes, or their bangers and mash which has traditional pork sausages topped with caramelized onions served on a bed of their homemade mashed potatoes topped with Guin-

ness gravy. If you love authentic fish and chips, theirs are made with North Atlantic Cod that’s beer battered and fried until it is golden brown. Fiddlers Green also has fully stacked sandwiches, a variety of juicy burgers and soups and salads. There’s a great kids selection, which

Home Services, etc. is Your Answer to Peace of Mind at Home When You Can’t Be There By Kim Thomas How many times have you come home to an unexpected problem? During my nearly thirty years of being a homeowner, I’ve come home to a number of bad surprises – you probably have experienced some of these yourself – running toilets, leaking pipes, a leaking washing machine, downed limbs, broken A/C and a dead refrigerator. As homeowners, we know these things happen. So, what can you do to protect your beautiful home when you will be away? If you travel often or for extended periods of time, or if Florida is your part-time home and you will be leaving in the spring, then you should know more about the excellent, personalized services provided by Home Services, etc. If you’ve ever had to leave your home or condominium for an extended period, then you know the worry of not being on-hand to check on things personally, and with an empty house, a lot of things can go wrong. Nothing will

14

give you peace of mind like knowing your home is being looked after by Richard Snyder, the owner and operator of Home Services, etc. in Palm Harbor. I had the chance to meet Richard, and it is clear that he is capable and willing to handle home emergencies. There is a lot more involved in keeping your home safe and attended to than just having a neighbor pick up your mail and driveway papers. You need a responsible party who can stand in your place to handle emergencies and ensure that your investment is protected. Richard shared just a few incidences that he has handled for clients: a burglary where he met the police at his client’s home, a downed tree, and an A/C unit in an attic that leaked into the ceiling. Of course, meeting and waiting on repairmen, and meeting deliverymen are common tasks for Home Services, etc. Recently, upon finding that a refrigerator in a client’s home needed a repair, Richard handled the entire affair from

For Ad Info 727-943-2946 • www.NNLFlorida.com

pricing the repair to measuring the dimensions for a new refrigerator when the owner decided to replace rather than repair. And when the new refrigerator was delivered with a big dent, Richard was there to refuse delivery and insist the company redeliver what his client ordered – a new refrigerator in new condition. A 36-year resident of the area, Richard and his wife, who teaches school locally, raised their sons here. Realizing a need, Richard started Home Services, etc. in 2009 to provide the Tampa Bay area with a home service that caters to winter residents, business travelers and people who go on extended vacations. Home Services, etc. offers weekly, biweekly or monthly visits, and every single visit is documented with digital photographs that are emailed to the homeowner on the same day of the visit – every visit. There is a very important reason for this. Richard explains, “Florida law says that if you leave your house empty for six weeks

FEBRUARY 2015

Richard Snyder, Owner Home Services, etc. or longer, that house is considered vacant or abandoned, and in the case of theft or damage, your insurance may not have to pay any claims you have. That is why I provide three ways to prove that a house isn’t abandoned. There is a reason for those pictures. I am the eyes and ears for the homeowner.”

Home Services, etc. alerted this homeowner about a bad leak from the A/C unit in the attic. “I email pictures after every visit so that the homeowner can see what I see,” says Richard, who also emails a well-documented account and will call if anything needs immediate attention. Clients always know in advance when Richard will be in their home for routine checks because he sets a date and keeps it. He performs maintenance checks and tasks such as bringing in the mail, flyers and door hangers, and will even forward any important mail to you. In addition to receiving deliveries, he lets in the cleaning service, pool maintenance service or other workers. He always performs a thorough walkthrough,

checking and even “feeling” the house. “I touch things and make sure they work,” says Richard. “From the air conditioner to the water heater, I really try to get a feel for the home and make certain everything is in proper working order.” Richard checks walls and ceilings to make certain there are no leaks after storms and even takes his shoes off to make sure the ground is not wet anywhere within the home. Richard brings the personal touch to home sitting and he takes every measure possible to provide preventive maintenance at your house, from leaks, to a crack in the pool’s siding or

unwanted pests. Home Services, etc. goes the extra step in looking out for things that you may have never thought of! Richard realizes that you will want to know him so when he meets with you for a consultation, he will bring references and referrals, he will present his own background check and will provide you with examples of the service he provides to his clients. Should you decide that Home Services, etc. is the right company for your peace of mind, Richard will set up a customized plan with you for your home. If you are looking for someone to be your eyes and ears while you are

away, Richard truly goes above-andbeyond. He has even been known to pick up clients at the airport to deliver them to their Florida home that is waiting for them in pristine condition. Home Services, etc. is licensed, bonded and insured and has an A rating with Angie’s List. Call Richard Snyder at Home Services etc. at (727) 420-6600. With equipment built to stimulate mental and physical aspects of kids’ playtime, this play arena is the perfect place to bring your tots and young children for a fun-filled day of imaginative play. Kidz World of Play offers parents free WiFi and a place to relax while working, having lunch or enjoying a day with other parents, while the kids play in themed areas that are specifically designed for age-appropriate playtime. Kidz World of Play opened this past December in Tarpon Springs after intensive planning, designing and building. Owners Hannah and Matt Brittan partnered with Hannah’s family, to bring the concept of Kidz World of Play to the U.S. after spending time

16

with their own children in the Tampa Bay area. Hannah says, “We are originally from the U.K., but are very familiar with the Tampa community. My parents, Mike and Roe Corbett, have vacationed here for over ten years, as my Father worked in the U.S. for many years. After realizing that there weren’t a ton of places for parents to bring their kids for safe, clean and stimulating educational play, we made a decision as a family to bring this concept to the States. My parents are our investors, which truly makes this a family owned and operated business.” The concept is new to the United States and the Corbett and Brittan families are extremely excited to have found a home for Kidz World in beautiful Tarpon Springs. The family originally set the concept up in the U.K., where their business is called The Play Farm Ltd. The play equipment at Kidz World of Play was designed in England and is completely unique to Kidz World of Play.

The Key is Education If you are a retiree or nearing retirement, you need to know how to protect your money and understand how tax laws will affect your retirement. Often, there are legitimate adjustments that can be made now to reduce tax liabilities. “If clients are already collecting social security when they come to us, they want to know how they can re-

Unfortunately many employer sponsored plans do not offer this benefit when you retire. We will show you how to put some things in place now that will enable you to set up lifetime income down the road. This is income you will never outlive…similar to a pension. We spend many hours with our clients to put sound plans in place by sharing ‘real time’ tax, income and social security analysis through some of the most sophisticated software. We want our clients to leave our office with a better understanding on what their income needs will be in retirement, and how to control, reduce or possibly eliminate taxes.” Concierge Level Service While taxes are a large part of The

Rizzotto Tax Advisory Group, the majority of their clients also utilize the firm’s other services including investments, retirement planning, long term care, annuities, life insurance, wills and trusts. Ed says, “Clients like the opportunity we provide to get everything taken care of in one place.” “When people come in to see us,” says Ed, “the first thing we do is dedicate an hour of our time to complete an overall review that covers the last couple of years, including going over their tax returns in detail, studying their portfolios, and discussing their important concerns to determine how we can help them. Then, at a follow-up appointment, we present a thorough plan for them.” The Rizzotto Tax Advisory Group offers guidance to each investor based on their unique investment profile while focusing on their financial goals. “Many people are concerned with the economy right now and preservation of funds is very important,” says Ed. “Saving on taxes, reducing or eliminating taxation on social security and protecting the fi-

nancial wellbeing of a spouse after another’s death – those are things that my clients are concerned about. Today, people also want alternatives to the low interest rate environment provided by CDs and money market accounts.” Rizzotto explains that being involved with his clients in all the key areas of tax returns, insurance needs and investments allows his team to keep a keen eye on each client’s bottom line. He says, “We’ve had people who had other advisors and financial planners who convinced them to make changes, not aware of the tax impacts. To me, the tax return is the most important document the client owns, that’s why it is the first thing we look at when the client meets us for their initial appointment. If there is an investment or change that could cause a taxable event, we know that up front.” Retirement Planning…Not Just For Retirees While The Rizzotto Tax Advisory Group’s area of expertise over the years has been working with retirees, they also work with clients of all ages in the area of retirement planning. “You’re never too young or too old to

start saving for retirement,” says Rizzotto. “We have found that many people we meet who are still working have changed jobs about every five to seven years, and many of those people left their retirement plans at their old employers (i.e. 401k, 403b, and 457 plans, etc). Many of these plans can be rolled over to individual IRAs or Roth IRAs, thus giving the client more control and the ability to have someone to advise them. We feel it is imperative for those people ages 59 -1/2 or older who are still employed to become educated on a very significant act signed into law by congress over eight years ago that changed the rules governing IRAs, 401(k)s, 403(b)s and 457 plans, what their options are and what they can do to prepare for their family’s financial future.” The Rizzotto Tax Advisory Group is located in the community of Long Leaf in the Florida Design Consultants Center at 3030 Starkey Boulevard in Trinity. A second location is in Pinellas County at 1034 Belcher Road South in Largo. Call (727) 683-9119 or visit www.rizzottotax.com for more information or to schedule an appointment.

“If I Were A Bug or Weed, I’d Live In Florida!” Mike laughs about his funny saying that if he were a bug or weed, he’d choose Florida. The climate is the perfect breeding ground for weeds, bugs and tree diseases that can harm your yard. Luckily, Florida Gardens expertly assesses your lawn care needs with an in-depth analysis of turf type, sun exposure, water regimen and nutrient requirements. Mike uses granular, slow-release fertilizers to feed your lawn the nutrients it needs. Feeding your lawn the right mixture of fertilizer is the best way to bring back a vibrant color and fill in bare spots. As for weed management, Florida Gardens utilizes the best in EPA regulated post and pre-emergent herbicides under the Green Industry Best Management Practices from the University of Florida. You want to go with an herbicide that will not harm your pets or children, which is why choosing Florida Gardens is the right choice. From fleas and ticks to fire ants,

This can easily be remedied with the application of professional grade fertilizers and proper nutrients.” Florida Gardens is Your Lawn and Tree Expert! “Taso Italiano” Continued from page 1 Today, Taso takes his knowledge of the craft, his impeccable timing, the best quality ingredients and freshest foods (many of which are from local farms and fisherman), and combines that with some of his own family’s recipes! And, wham, you’ve got “All the Best,” which just happens to be the catch phrase on the menu! Let me rephrase that, and explain: There are four menus, an Early Bird, a Dinner menu, a Catering menu, and a separate and altogether equal Pizza menu that includes Stromboli and Calzones! Each of the menus are jam-packed with tasty dishes that make it hard to choose, which is why so many people come back on such a regular basis. Michael, who works at nearby Leo’s Barber Shop, comes in all the time. He says, “My favorite is the Chicken Francese and the Spinach & Artichoke Rangoon!” But, ask around, and you’ll find that everyone has a different “favorite,” from the Grandma Pie to the Rack of Lamb.

30

“All the Best” from the Land, the Sea & the Sky! Taso humbly explains that his success is only because of the passionate and caring staff behind him, which consists of his better half Sabrina, kitchen manager Keith Komarek, sous chef Jim Ketzner, pizza chef “PatrickThe-Pizza-Guy,” front of the house manager Jen and all of their great servers. Taso has created a restaurant experience that has people just raving about the place. Add the full liquor bar and the live music on Friday and Saturday nights, and this place is really cooking. Kathy and Paul Bullara of Land O’Lakes proudly call themselves regulars. Kathy said, “We love how Taso always comes around and announces, ‘We’ve got the best food from the land, the sea and the sky!’ That’s because he had quail on the menu today!” She added, “You’ve got to try the Fish in Filo, it’s my favorite! One time I came and they were out of it, so now I call ahead to make sure they save me some!” The Fish in Filo is Taso’s father’s creation, and one that really goes fast. Similar to a Greek Spanakopita, but with fresh fish from the Gulf, the dish is heavenly.

Owner Taso Stassi serves “ALL THE BEST” from hand-carved steaks to fresh caught seafood - you’ll love eating at Taso Italiano in New Port Richey! Paul said, “The food is phenomenal. We love the service and the attention, and Taso comes out to talk to you! It’s great!” He adds, “Oh and you’ve gotta get the white pizza!” Kathy also said, “We have brought at least ten couples to this restaurant because we like it so much, and on top of that we have Taso cater our Christmas Eve dinner for my husband’s Ital-

ian family!” You can’t quite get a better recommendation than that! When you have a calling to be a restaurant owner, like Taso does, it’s not surprising that every little detail is important! It’s more than a business, it’s more than a restaurant, it’s a lifestyle for Taso and his staff! So, with that in mind, Taso spends a lot of time seeking out quality ingredients to put

in his food. Taso’s passion for fishing and hunting is why he has so many local fishermen for friends, who provide him their daily catch. He visits the local fruit and veggie stands, and lives on a small farm himself. It’s this commitment to fresh, quality ingredients that helps make the food so delicious. Add his many years of experience, and the food just melts in your mouth. Taso extends his high standards to his kitchen, and having seen his kitchen on a busy Friday night, his expectations on how a restaurant should be kept is perfection. Let me tell you, it’s not every restaurant owner that knows his kitchen is spot-on at every given moment. All the Best from the land, the sea

and the sky is a common theme at Taso Italiano, and that’s because you can have your favorite foods prepared a myriad of ways, so if you like having chicken or veal prepared more than a half a dozen ways, and don’t want to travel to Tampa to get a beautiful steak, you may have found your new favorite spot! Taso says, “We only use Upper 2/3 Black Angus Chairman’s Reserve and that is why we have so many people who come here for the steak!” And don’t forget about the Rigatoni Bolognese, the Lasagna and the Italian Sausage. Taso’s – Perfect for Parties! Taso Italiano is the perfect place

to have a party, whether it’s a small dinner with your family to celebrate a birthday, or a 20-topper, Taso has got you covered! Just make a reservation! If you’re in need of something larger for your party or reception, Taso Italiano has an amazing dining room that can be converted into separate private spaces for parties of 40 up to 100 people! What’s more, Taso has partnered with the Verizon Event Center just a mile or so away to cater events there, which can accommodate up to 600 people! So, if you’re in charge of creating that special event for your family or for your company, Taso Italiano is an excellent choice! Taso will personally sit down with you and help you plan

your event with a private tasting. Also, if you’re looking to host an event in your home, but want to leave the cooking to Taso, you can! Additionally, if you’d like to have or host an event or meeting at Taso Italiano during the day, Taso will be happy to open the restaurant to your private party. Taso Italiano is located at 4016 Little Road in Trinity, and is open for dinner Sunday – Thursday, 4 – 9 p.m., and 4 –10 p.m. on Friday & Saturday. Come Out and Enjoy the 12th Annual San Gennaro Festa in Safety Harbor! By Julie Kanehl What do you get when you combine homemade Italian sauce, mouthwatering meatballs, handmade pasta demonstrations, cannoli and zeppoles dusted with sugar, pizzelle-making demonstrations, Italian entertainment, music and dancing, bocce courts, and thousands of excited guests? You get LIADO’s 12th Annual San Gennaro Festa in Safety Harbor! This will mark the 12th year that the remarkable ladies of LIADO (“Le Italo-Americane Di Oggi” or “The Italian-American Women of Today”) have put on the Annual San Gennaro Festa, so mark your calendars for Saturday and Sunday the 21st and 22nd of February, grab your closest friends and your appetite, and “andiamo!” LIADO’s San Gennaro Festa is held every year down at the Safety Harbor Marina, which is right next to the Safety Harbor Spa, making this lively street fair convenient to the entire Bay Area. The San Gennaro Festa is quite a big deal; in fact, people travel from all over Florida and beyond to come to this incredible and exciting event. Here’s a little history for you. San

Gennaro (or Saint Januarius) is the patron saint of Naples, Italy, so it makes sense that the original Feast of San Gennaro would take place there! When Italians settled in the United States they wanted to continue to celebrate the saint’s feast day, and so the Feast of San Gennaro has taken place each year in Little Italy, New York since 1926. Part street fair, part family reunion, The Feast of San Gennaro grew in popularity and now more than a million people gather there each year as a way to celebrate their shared Italian heritage, culture, and of course culinary superiority, I mean expertise.

From Little Italy to Safety Harbor, LIADO’s San Gennaro Festa has the same goal: To share and celebrate their Italian Heritage with the world. Celebrating in Florida in February to avoid that pesky hurricane season, LIADO’s San Gennaro Festa draws quite a crowd and is a wonder to behold. All for a Great Cause! LIADO’s San Gennaro Festa is actually a fundraiser that goes to support a great many local causes including The Alzheimer’s Association of Florida (Gulf Coast Chapter), Autism Speaks, Children’s Cancer Center, Children’s Cancer Research Group @ USF, The Safety Harbor Public Library, and many more. Additionally, through their scholarship program, LIADO has awarded more than $110,000 to deserving students who are dedicated to furthering their education. You Had Me At Meatballs! Let’s be honest, there’s nothing

quite like Italian cooking, and when it comes to meatballs, nobody does it better. I’m sure you make a decent meatball, but last year, the meatballs at LIADO’s San Gennaro Festa were so good, that they sold out of thousands of them in the first day. That’s what I’m talking about. I’m talking about meatballs worth waiting in line for, and I’m telling you, they’re making even more this year. Of course, this year’s Festa will offer a plethora of other Italian cuisine from Italian sausage and peppers to homemade pasta fagioli, not to mention the desserts – from cannoli to zeppoles (those are Italian doughnuts!). If you’re so inclined, you can even participate in one of the meatball or cannoli eating contests! There will also be live entertainment throughout the Festa! The Impacs will keep everyone on their feet, and Joey Dee will perform live on Sunday! Entertainment is definitely part of the Italian culture, and spontaneous dancing has been known to

erupt around the meatball booth in particular! Meet the Ladies Behind The Festa LIADO, The Italian-American Women of Today, was actually founded in 1993 by a group of women who wanted to preserve their heritage, share their culture, and ultimately promote a realistic and positive

view of Italian-American women. Starting with less than 30 women, the group has grown to more than 150! Meeting once a month to learn and share things about their Italian heritage, these women have become like extended Italian family to one another. With a focus on education, information and cultural preservation, topics include everything from immigration to getting to the bottom of certain pronunciations. Of course, as you can imagine, there are a lot of cooking demonstrations! Who do you think makes all of the meatballs for the San Gennaro Festa? LIADO, which is the only 100 percent Italian women’s organization

of its kind in Florida, now has two meeting places to accommodate its members, one is in Dunedin and the other in New Port Richey. So, if you’re an Italian-American woman and are interested in joining a group that truly gives back to the community, while preserving and reaffirming your heritage, you should think about joining! You can even sign up to join this incredible group of ladies at LIADO’s San Gennaro Festa this month! So, whether you’re going for the music, the fun, the meatballs or the cannoli, you should grab your friends and family and come on down to LIADO’s 12th Annual San Gennaro

Festa in Safety Harbor. 12th Annual San Gennaro Festa will be held on Saturday, February 21st from 11 a.m.–9 p.m., and Sunday February 22nd from 11 a.m.–7 p.m. at the Safety Harbor Marina, at 110 Veteran’s Memorial Lane. Children 12 and under are free, and tickets for adults are just $5. All for a great cause, LIADO’s San Gennaro Festa will be held rain or shine! For more information about the event, visit www.sangennarofesta.com. If you’d like to know more about becoming a member of LIADO, visit www.liado.net.

“Cleaning Angels” Continued from page 1 Donna’s Cleaning Angels is a local, full-service cleaning company whose seeds were planted with love 24 years ago by Donna Ferrante. First it was love of family and the need for extra money that prompted the single mother to start a small side business cleaning houses. Love of family grew to love of clients and the self-fulfillment that comes from doing for others. Donna’s kids even helped out in the early years – her son, then 11, and his friend put fliers on cars at the Sunday services. Feeling that she’d found her true purpose, Donna devoted herself to growing her client base. She saw that by providing a stellar cleaning service, she was instrumental in helping people to enjoy their homes again. At one of her first cleaning jobs, she bonded with an elderly lady under Hospice care and she was the inspiration behind the name of the company. Donna is still emotional as she recalls bonding with her client and giving her a crystal angel. Just before passing, the lady referred to Donna as her cleaning angel.

34

Years later, after falling and breaking her ankle, Donna hired her first employee. Now, bigger and better than ever, with 22 employees and 24 years later, Donna has built the number one cleaning service in Tampa Bay, which offers exceptional service and a superior outcome. The fully licensed, bonded and insured company provides you with a team of “cleaning angels” who are background checked, drug-free and covered by worker’s compensation. They also adhere to all OSHA rules. This is important for Donna’s employees’ protection, as well as her clients’ protection. “I have one customer who [previous to hiring Donna’s Cleaning Angels] had hired an individual who did not carry workman’s compensation,” explains Donna. “This person was not wearing non-slip shoes and ended up falling while cleaning the shower and hitting her head sustaining a serious injury. She sued the homeowner and won. My clients don’t have to worry about that because I carry the liability.” Donna’s Cleaning Angels work as a team, and they are always presentable and friendly, with matching uniforms and non-slip shoes. They bring everything they need to provide

You’ll love having Donna’s Cleaning Angels walk in your door, uniformed and carrying all cleaning supplies needed to get your home sparkling clean! you with an exceptional cleaning. Donna explains, “My teams come in with a large canvas kit with all of their cleaning supplies, all of which are of the highest quality and kept in separate plastic bags. The cleaning teams are trained on what products to use.

every clean.” Donna continues, “I offer a very unique and personable cleaning service. My teams spend twice the time as other services for less money. There is a lot more to providing a good cleaning service than just the cleaning. It’s the care and professionalisms that comes from all of us, from management, to the scheduling, down to the teams who really care about doing a great job.” The cleaning teams check off a list, covering everything from baseboards to the ceiling fans to the stainless steel hood over the stove. A team leader is on every job. “The girls are happy when they work together,” says Donna. “It’s safer for them and they have good energy together.” Plus, the teammates hold each other accountable and checks behind each other to make sure nothing is missed. Comment cards, meetings with the staff, and client calls to make sure the job was done correctly also help ensure customers are not only happy with the first cleaning, but every cleaning with Donna’s Cleaning Angels. The angels clean the Florida homes of folks from as far away as Alaska and even Canada! Of course, it

is the locals who first embraced Donna and her Cleaning Angels. Steve Fiske, President of the North Pinellas Regional Chamber of Commerce and Honorary Mayor of Palm Harbor, says that he loves coming home knowing that Donna’s Cleaning Angels have made his home into his own little slice of heaven, and recommends Donna’s Cleaning Angels to everyone as a detailed cleaning service. “This is not a cleaning service that is done at four o’clock,” says Donna. “My office manager Brandy – who by the way is outstanding - and I are here from seven a.m. until eight or nine at night. I have been doing this for 24 years and I have plenty of references to provide people with, not only from customers but from many businesses in the area who know of me because I support other local businesses and restaurants.” At the end of the day when it’s time to unwind, relax and enjoy a great meal, Donna and her partner Steve frequently dine at local restaurants, including Central Park Restaurant in New Port Richey, where they love to sit and chat with the owner Chris Michael. “We’ve found that we have some of the same customers,”

says Donna. “And we agree that we are fortunate to advertise in Neighborhood News & Lifestyles and we absolutely love the staff there.” Donna has had many articles in Neighborhood News & Lifestyles and says there are many times when people find out the name of her business and say, “Oh I hear good things about your service.” She says, “I have one new client who told me she’d been reading my stories for five years now. She said, ‘I knew that one day when I needed to hire a cleaning service, it would be you.’ Then she gave me a big hug and said that she felt like she’s known me for a long time.” Another client called Donna after she heard two ladies at a doctor’s office in Palm Harbor talking about what a great job Donna’s Cleaning Angels do. People like knowing Donna’s background and the work ethic she learned from her hard-working Italian and French Canadian family in the small town of Gorham, in the white mountains of New Hampshire where her family has owned an Italian restaurant for over 67 years. Donna explains, “The dedication and success in my cleaning business is due to the closeness of my wonderful family. I am proud and honored to say that I

am following in the footsteps of my parents and grandparents. We know how to cook, clean and we give 100 percent to the business.” Reflecting, Donna says, “At the end of the day I thank God for my blessings – the great people who work for me, a great business, my health, my home, my loved ones and my family. God bless you all.” If you are ready for a heavenly clean, please call Donna’s Cleaning Angels at 813-475-5958 or 727942-8289. The company services Pasco, Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties. Gift certificates available.

Dulcet Restaurant & Lounge – Tampa Bay’s Newest Local Hotspot By Alexis Selby Starting the New Year off with a bang, Dulcet Restaurant & Lounge wowed guests with a rockin' grand opening celebration New Years Eve. Showcasing the fabulous creativity of talented chef Paul Syms, appetizers were served throughout the night, including jumbo shrimp, seared scallops, fresh tuna, and other tantalizing preparations. Listening to the rhythmic music of live singers, guests danced the night away as they enjoyed Tampa Bay’s newest upscale venue. Encompassing the best of both worlds, Dulcet Restaurant & Lounge features both an upscale restaurant where diners can enjoy fabulous chefprepared delicacies, and an upstairs lounge where patrons can relax on the couches and unwind after a hectic day at work. “Our vision for Dulcet was to bring upscale fine dining to New Port Richey, while at the same time having a lounge that complements the upscale dining,” says owner Nelson Ohihoin. “The challenge was fine tuning both so that they blend and fit together, therefore satisfying both sectors without sacrificing the effect of

each other.” They have definitely done a remarkable job! Nelson and his partners spared no expense with their vision, creating a venue that is sure to wow even before you walk through the doors. Walking up, guests take a stroll down the red carpet as they are greeted and let inside by a handsomely dressed gentleman. Very Miami-esque with white walls, LED lights, an in-wall waterfall and soaring ceilings, Dulcet really has brought something unique to the Tampa Bay Area. Modern and elegant, this new local hot spot is perfect

Set to open within the next month, Dulcet is expanding their restaurant to include a back patio, the Cavalaire Patio to be more specific, which will showcase island, Caribbean and African – inspired cuisine. “It’s kind of like two restaurants in one,” says Nelson. “Having the patio will allow us to offer a broad range of prices so that everybody can find something that they can afford.” This new addition will have a more laid-back, relaxing atmosphere and although the menu is different, guests can still expect to find the same quality of chef-prepared meals as they would inside the elegant dining area.
