Our Partnership with the Tampa Bay Rays = FREE TICKETS FOR YOU!… AGAIN! April has been a very exciting time of the year for my family and me; not only because our hometown team the Tampa Bay Rays kick off their season, but also because for the second year in a row the Rays have reached out to our company for a “visibility campaign” partnership. Last year, amongst our five magazines, we had a direct mail circulation of over 85,000 households in the Bay area and when the Rays found out we added New Tampa to our distribution, bringing our monthly total to over

110,000 and making us the largest circulation of community magazines in the state of Florida, they were excited to work out another deal with us. Our online readership has blown up in the past year as well, consistently ranging between 40 and 50,000 individual readers and well over half a million page views! Enough about why the Rays partnered with us, let’s get into what you really care about, and that’s how you can score some free Rays game tickets!

Part of our deal with the Rays includes 6 press level season tickets – one season ticket for each of our 6 magazines. If you saw New Tampa Lifestyles’ front cover last issue you already know I have a big family who not only lives here locally but works with me as well. Even though we have a bunch of family and friends in this area we’ve decided to give away many of our prime press level tickets to our valued readers to show how much we appreciate you.

News Briefs

Crunch Fitness Comes to New Tampa! April 1st was a huge celebration and the official ribbon cutting of the newest Crunch Fitness location to open at 15313 Amberly Drive in Tampa Palms. A full renovation has taken place at this location, with over $750,000 worth of brand new equipment. Upon entering, the most common response from anyone walking through the door is, " I can't believe how big the facility is and it's all brand new!" Members are also raving about the diversified equipment, cleanliness, nationally certified group fitness instructors and personal trainers, friendly no pressure staff and crunchtastic perks discounts. It is redefining the meaning of a true fitness family in the gym industry. The rules are simple at the newly opened Crunch fitness center in Tampa Palms, where essentially everything boils down to one key thing — “no judgments,” said Charles Zeine, General Manager of the new location. "Our customer is the focus. You are

our priority." “We want everyone to feel comfortable here, because at the end of the day, if you feel comfortable you’re going to meet your goals,” said Chad Hogue, Area Supervisor. That holds true for both the seasoned athlete and for the person who has never set foot in a gym before. “We want everyone to come in and see what we’re doing for the community,” Hogue said. “Number one, we want to be known as a place anyone can come to. Number two, we want you to be a vendor in our club, whether you’re a local business, chiropractor or therapist. For more information on our Health and Wellness Corporate Program, please contact Jaci Petrock at 813-838-6526 or via email, jacipetrock@gmail.com. And number three, we want to promote wellness, including participation in endurance challenges with members, staff and other Crunch fitness clubs.” William Rodriguez, Manager in Training, described Crunch as a “nonaggressive membership” club with affordable monthly dues. The basic

membership is $9.95 a month. For $10 more, a member can work out at other Crunch clubs, bring a guest and take advantage of tanning and groupexercise classes. There is an annual gym fee of $39 and an enrollment fee that can change monthly. They also have partnerships with many companies in the area, so be sure to inquire about their Corporate membership offerings as well. With almost 60 slots of classes scheduled weekly, including Zumba, Yoga, Cardio Thai Kickboxing, Cardio Sculpt, Absolution (for core strengthening), Boot Camp (with a BOSU balance ball, for “both sides utilized”),

Retro Aerobics, and TRX, which involves a full-body weighted leverage system, there is always something to please everyone. It also allows for diversity in your workouts to ensure you are always challenging yourself and making progress. There are no spinning classes, but there is Tread-n-Shed, which involves “pumping up” the momentum on treadmills. While most fitness facilities charge extra for many of these classes, they are all included in the Crunch membership. Each class is open to any member, regardless of condition, and there is no additional fee other than the second-tiered $19.95 monthly membership cost.

As the “Crunch Philosophy” notes: “There is no one way. What we are is a diverse community; what we have is a culture of fun; what there is, is room for everyone; all kinds of people with all kinds of goals who have chosen to reach them with us.” The full-service gym also offers circuit training, cardiovascular equipment, free weights, plate- loaded equipment and locker rooms with showers. Childcare is also available, as well as the services of nationally certified personal trainers. What Hogue emphasizes, along with Petrock, Corporate Sales and Marketing Director, is the family atmosphere at Crunch and the focus on “no judgments.” Indeed, a sign centrally placed

expounds on the “Crunch Philosophy,” noting such things as encouragement, entertainment, empowerment and diversity. “There are no judgments here — no too much or not enough, no glares of disapproval,” the sign reads. “Here we keep open minds. We are nurturers.” The Tampa Palms site is ideal for Crunch, given that there was a beloved gym in business there before. “We’re seeing a lot of previous members coming back,” Zeine said. “They’re happy to have a gym back and we're happy to be the ones to be able to give that back to them.” Crunch Fitness Tampa Palms is located at 15313 Amberly Drive in Tampa Palms and is open 5am11pm Monday-Thursday, 5am10pm Friday and 8am-7pm Saturday and Sunday. You can also view their group fitness schedule via www.CrunchTampaPalms.com.

The Citrus Park Rockies Make History at Citrus Park! are just as good as boys when it comes to playing ball! “The coaches are so good with them,” says one mom. “The reinforcement and positivity is amazing. They are all about encouragement.” Danielle adds, “It’s important to teach these girls from a young age the importance of teamwork and for them to get out there and play against the boys to help build their confidence and egos.” With purple tie-dye socks, and can-do attitudes, the Colorado Rockies are here to prove that this season, it’s all about the girls! Watch out, because they’re here to win! By next fall the Citrus Park Rockies are planning to expand the all girls t-ball and softball program and are looking for girls ages 6 to 16 to play.

By Alexis Selby It’s all about girl power and sisterhood for the Citrus Park Rockies, the first ever all girls t-ball team at Citrus Park. Making history, this all girls team has been working hard to prove that their team has what it takes to compete with co-ed and allboys teams in the league. Ranging in age from 5 – 7 years old, these girls sure have heart and prove that girls can play ball too! It was the vision of mother Danielle Diaz and other parents in the area that brought this team to life. Wanting to give their daughters the same bonding experience that many of their sons got to experience by playing on an all-boys team, these parents banded together to start an all-girls team. “We started the Citrus Park Rockies with the hopes of having these girls grow together as a team throughout the years, giving them the opportunity to form that camaraderie that all- boys teams get to experience,” says Danielle. “We want our daughters to grow up and be well-rounded and know all different types of sports and not just ballet and gymnastics. Being a part of a team is a completely different experience,” adds one mom. For many of these girls, this is their first time playing a team sport, but you would never be able to tell – the way they work together as a team is really impressive and they have already began to show such immense progress. On the other hand, there are quite a few girls on the team who have been around the ball field their

entire lives and have already played a few seasons on a coed team. They have graciously welcomed the new girls and made them feel right at home on the field. “Half of the girls have older brothers so they are accustomed to being at the park and many have played on other coed teams,” says Danielle. “Now, it’s their turn to shine!” After talking to many of the girls, it was clear to see that they were really happy with the opportunity. Comments ranged from “It’s really fun” and “It’s better because we get to play with all girls and no boys,” to “We get to meet new friends and play with friends from school.” Joining a team is a great way for

young girls to build their confidence, and when it comes to the Colorado Rockies they are all about positive reinforcement and proving that girls

1-800-GOT-JUNK?

When I asked 1-800-GOT-JUNK? owners Troy and Rachelle White what the strangest thing their team has ever hauled away, they had a quick reply, “A coffin, tollbooth, and truckloads of mannequins.” 1-800GOT-JUNK? is a full-service junk removal service for your home or business including offices, retail locations, and constructions sites. Wherever you have junk in Hillsborough, Pinellas or Pasco Counties, 1-800GOT-JUNK? will come haul it away for you. “No job is too big or too small,” says Troy. “Our friendly professional haulers will handle almost any kind of junk as long as it is non-hazardous. We pick up single items or can handle multiple truckloads of junk for commercial and residential clients. Our friendly, uniformed drivers will do all the lifting for you, clean up, and haul your junk away. More than 60 percent of what we haul away is recycled or reused and our haulers will do the sorting for you to determine if something should go to the dump, local chari-

ties, or recycle centers. We have even taken small boats, engine blocks, sheds, and docks. We can take away almost any material we can fit in our

trucks, without you ever lifting a finger. We’ll remove junk from wherever it’s located, and we won’t leave a dent or speck of dirt behind.”

1-800-GOT-JUNK? customer Sue W. says, “Your guys were punctual, professional, and positively delightful. They showed great care in removing items so as to not damage the surrounding items. They were upbeat and extremely competent in loading so as to minimize cost. The team was diligent in the use of their time as well as mine. Overall it was a positive experience. Thank you!” Up-Front Pricing: With 1-800GOT-JUNK? there are no hidden costs or surprise fees. They will come to you and give you a free estimate. “Aaron and his crew showed up right on time with a few hours notice, were able to give us a quote, then were able to start right away and even bring another crew to remove all of our debris. All the staff were courteous and worked extremely hard. I will certainly be using them in the future,” says Janet M. Most of the time 1-800-GOTJUNK? is able to provide same day service. You can call them to set up a time for removal or go online at www.1800GOTJUNK.com whichever is more convenient for you.

nice edition to the office because there is a subset of patients that would prefer a female physician, so now we offer that as well to better serve the needs of our patients,” says Dr. Landon. I can tell you, from my own personal experience, that Dr. Landon and his staff truly are amazing. From day one, his staff went above and beyond to provide me with a personalized experience and did a great job of making me feel comfortable and relaxed. From my first consultation, where the staff was very thorough and actually listened to what I had to say, to the night of the operation where Dr. Landon called me at home to see how I was doing, to the months following the operation, where Dr. Landon and his staff did an excellent job making sure everything progressed and healed right, Landon Plastic Surgery really has set the bar with how patients should be treated. “We do take care of our patients and I do think we offer that extra level of service,” says Cheryl. “I almost think we nurture patients. We have an amazing, amazing staff. They are all truly wonderful. We really care about our patients and our patients know that. They almost feel part a part of the family.”

Board certified in general surgery, with six years of experience as a general surgeon, as well as ten years of experience in reconstructive surgery prior to becoming a cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Landon surely has an impressive resume. His knowledge and experience in both general and reconstructive surgery have given him a deeper understanding and unprecedented set of skills and when it comes to cosmetic surgery he truly has made a name for himself. Transitioning into plastic surgery over 20 years ago, in the past two decades Dr. Landon has helped thousands upon thousands of patients to gain a more positive body image and

given them an added sense of confidence and happiness. “Our goal in opening up a plastic surgery practice was to provide a place where people can come to take care of their entire body,” says Dr. Landon’s wife Cheryl Landon, Practice Manager for Landon Plastic Surgery. “We take care of people from head to toe. Our patients come here because they know they can get an honest opinion and really good customer service; they come here to get something done and get it done well!” Dr. Landon says, “Landon Plastic Surgery is very comprehensive and it is important for people to know, that everything we do, we do a lot of; we do procedures multiple times a week in every category. We handle about 700 cases a year.” Recently joining the Landon team is Dr. Gloria Thomas, a very well established female plastic surgeon. Previously owning a private practice for years, Dr. Thomas has over 20 years or experience and brings with her a multitude of knowledge and a lengthy list of happy patients. “She is a

Using the newest, most innovative technology, Dr. Landon’s 3D breast imaging machine allows patients to see exactly what their implants are going to look like before the surgery, and gives them the opportunity to “try out” different sizes to see what will look best on their body and what size will give them the desired outcome that they hope to achieve. Dr. Landon says, “We offer patients the ability to take a virtual road trip with different size implants to see how the implants are going to look on their body. This has really done a great

job of alleviating the anxiety.” The newest in patient-centered advancements, Landon Plastic Surgery has recently introduced Touch MD to their practice. Interactive software for patient education, Touch MD, as like the 3D breast-imaging machine, gives patients the opportunity to experience the closest thing they can to having surgery, before the actual surgery. By uploading a picture of the patient’s target area to the software, Dr. Landon is able to show his patients where the incisions are going to be made, as well as the projected outcome as to what that area will look like post-surgery. “This gives patients a sense of familiarity, making them feel comfortable about their decision,” says Dr. Landon. “It is a great teaching tool, and my patients end up leaving with a solid education of what we hope to accomplish surgically, as well as an enhanced piece of mind in knowing they know what to expect before, during and after the surgery; helping their decision to choose our office an easy one.” When asked his favorite part about what he does, Dr. Landon replied, “being able to take body images that people find distasteful or aging and give them a positive body image change. People have a wide range of expectations and if you are really going to be successful you have to listen to your patients and deliver what they want. I think that is what really sets up apart. I look at every person that comes in here as family and give them the same treatment as I would if it were my mother or my daughter. For added patient convenience, in addition to their office in Trinity, Landon Plastic Surgery also has an office located behind Memorial Hospital at 403 S. Habana Ave. in Tampa. The Fresh Market at Wiregrass Offers Fun and Goods for Everyone! By Kim Thomas The Fresh Market that comes to Wiregrass Mall every first and third Saturday is a great way to spend your morning! I recently visited and can’t wait to go back, but I have a few tips. Take some kind of tote bag, or even better a rolling cooler! I found so many great items at the Fresh Market that I found myself envious of the young moms with strollers where they could stash their goods under the baby. Next time, I’m leaving the notepad and camera at home, and I’m stocking up on the goods! The beautiful weather, fresh air and fun shopping are reason enough to go to the Fresh Market at Wiregrass Mall, but you’ll also love meeting the hundreds of vendors. There are so many offerings and I truly enjoyed getting to meet so many different people with their own stories to tell. From farmers who are carrying on a family legacy and entrepreneurs who are marketing new products on the weekends while they work their other jobs during the weekdays, to artists,

bakers and pet-lovers, you’ll meet wonderful people. There is stand after stand of beautiful locally grown vegetables and fruits. They will give you plastic bags if you don’t have a tote, but if you’re like me, you’ll want to buy more than you‘ll want to carry. I couldn’t resist the heirloom veggies offered from Small Town Farms – beautiful black and chocolate red bell peppers, rainbow carrots, gorgeous vine-ripened Pita Boy tomatoes, and white zucchini – that were to make up a few fabulous meals at the Thomas house! I thought

I was done buying vegetables, but then I passed by the Live Oak Organics stand and bought the last bag of baby spinach, plus some turnips and one of my favorite snacks, sugar snap peas, which were so tender, juicy and sweet – the best I’ve ever tasted! The fresh-picked strawberries were abundant, with more than one place to get them, but I picked mine up at the Parke Family Hydro Farms’ stand – they were delicious in my homemade strawberry lemonade! It smells good at the Fresh Market, too. Bring an appetite because

there are fantastic offerings from chocolates to artisan sausages on fresh rolls (The Sausage Factory) and handcrafted popsicles at Whatever Pops (mine was Earl Grey Tea, Lavender and Lemon – so refreshing!), and so much more! The pulled pork sandwiches at The Hogfather BBQ stand looked delicious! For one dollar only, my taste buds took a trip to Paris with a chocolate truffle made by Richard at Cow Paddy Irish Fudge. Richard says he has customers who say they truly haven’t tasted better, not even in Paris. My family has become spoiled by my

love of handmade soaps and I was happy to find a great source at the Swanson Soapworks stand. My burly, bearded son who is welder stopped by the house and snagged a delicious smelling soap for himself and his fiancé. It made me laugh to see him inhale the lovely fragrance and wow, what an easy way to make my grown boy feel pampered! Pet-lovers will love the Fresh Market’s pet-friendly atmosphere – friendly, leashed dogs are welcome – and the great products for healthy pets. Hearing the story behind Dog-

gone Good Goodies are so healthy and dog-gone good that they turn mild-mannered dogs into cookies monsters! There is so much more, from homemade whoopie pies, fresh baked goods, free range eggs and roasting chickens, seafood, even plants, orchids and cut flowers. There truly is too much to name, so just hop in your car on the first and third Saturday and check it out. Bring the whole family. Little ones can ride on the train and teens can hit the stores! It’s what I call a win-win.

Fifty Shades of White Fashioned after the wildly successful Le Diner En Blanc, the Temple Terrace Arts Council presents an elegant evening under the stars at the breathtakingly beautiful Woodmont Park, 415 Woodmont Avenue, Temple Terrace, April 18, from 7-11 p.m. Art en Blanc, the third annual evolution of the French picnic invented by Francois Pasquier in 1988, will be a potpourri of all things artis-

tic and enchanting. Guests are required to adorn themselves in shades of white from brilliant to ecru, in casual or costume style, from head to toe. Unusual awards for attire and table art encourage attendees to tap into their creative genius or collaborate with friends to deliver an unforgettable night of visual delights. True to the original En Blanc notion, guests dine on picnic fare of their

own design using their personal collection of utensils, dinnerware, and vessels. The Arts Council provides chairs, tables, linens (yes, they are white!), and entertainment. Guests who do not wish to spend their precious time in the kitchen may choose from three delicious menu selections that give a wink and a nod to our French cousins in Louisiana, by contacting the Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club. Entertainment for the evening includes the Dennis Pupello Jazz Ensemble, Terry Klaaren (whose en plain air painting will be presented for pur-

chase), a wine auction, controlled paparazzi, dancing in the moonlight, and a few secret surprises. Tables of 8=$275, Individuals=$35. The proceeds from this fundraising event are directed to the mission of the Temple Terrace Arts Council, a 501 (c) 3, not for profit organization.
