Spice Things Up by Dining at Spice Asian Fusion for Lunch & Dinner! By Julie Kanehl Spice Asian Fusion is an upscale dining “Vietnamese Kitchen” right here in Port Richey that offers food so delicious that your taste buds won’t know what hit them. From sushi that is expertly prepared by an Iron Chef with 45 years of experience, to authentic Vietnamese cuisine and Asian fusion dishes, Spice Asian Fusion serves food that is tempting, delicious and distinctive. Located at 5811 Richey Drive, near the Walmart on Ridge Road and U.S. Highway 19, Spice Asian Fusion is not just a restaurant; it’s a destination that’ll take you out of this world without even crossing the bay. If you haven’t tried Vietnamese cuisine before, you are you missing out on some of the best food in the world! Healthy, delicious and made with the finest ingredients available,

Spice Asian Fusion has a classy, yet easy to understand menu that makes ordering easy, even if you haven’t had the pleasure of dining on items like Pho Tai (my new favorite) or Bo Luc Lac before! Their incredibly helpful staff is great at guiding “newbies” through the menu, and each dish is delicious, so it’s a win-win! From traditional Vietnamese plates like Broken Rice dishes and Pho Noodle Soups to fusion dishes like their Chilean Sea Bass, there’s something on the menu for everyone. What’s more, the steak (available for dinner only) is rumored to be on par with some of the best steakhouses in Tampa Bay. Husband and wife team, Lisa Nguyen and Vuong Pham, have owned a number of Vietnamese restaurants in our area before opening Spice Asian Fusion this past November. Vuong and his brother, Phong Pham, expertly prepare the food, and

Pho Tai is a very popular Vietnamese dish and it’s now a new favorite of Neighborhood News & Lifestyles’ correspondent Julie Kanehl they take an immense pride in using the finest ingredients. Lisa says, “We have another restaurant in Tampa that is more casual dining, but we wanted to create a restaurant that was more upscale and had more fine dining options. We chose this area because we really want to share how good Vietnamese food is with the people in this area!” Lisa and Vuong wanted to create a beautiful and elegant restaurant that people would enjoy coming to for a lunch or dinner date, on a business

meeting or out with the girls on a girls’ night out. Every inch of the restaurant is enchanting, with beautiful crystal chandeliers, dramatic lighting and plenty of seating, it’s clear that Spice Asian Fusion is upping the dining game in Pasco county! With a large main dining room, a sushi bar, and essentially two semi-private rooms, Spice Asian Fusion is a fantastic place to have a romantic dinner date, a small dinner party, or even a business meeting! One customer, who was visiting
Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
from New York said, “Delicious food! Our waitress was a delight and helpful with ordering. She tells us the sushi chef has served both Presidents Reagan and Bush!” That’s right! If you’re a sushi fan, you’re going to want to dine at Spice Asian Fusion in the evenings, because Iron Chef Jimmy Kubota is so topnotch that he has experienced preparing sushi for some of the most important leaders in the world at the U.S. Embassy. With his nearly 50 years of experience, he has created an incredible sushi menu, and you can even sit at the sushi bar and watch him create your dish. Sushi is a lovely art form, and what a treat it is to have a
chef like this in Port Richey. Whether you’re coming in for lunch or dinner, you’ll love the ambiance and the food at Spice Asian Fusion. The staff is super-friendly, and they are more than happy to help you navigate the menu. Bartender Doug Morrel said, “The calamari here is the best I’ve ever tasted, from Seattle to Naples, Italy.” (He was right!) So, when you go for lunch or dinner this week, order the “Muc Chien Don” (that’s the calamari)! The Bang Bang Shrimp is also a popular favorite! There are a variety of soups and salads, ranging from traditional Miso Soup to a Fusion Avocado Salad that has lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, avocados,

and roasted onions served with wasabi ginger dressing. Spice Asian Fusion? Pho-Sure! Spice Asian Fusion offers expertly prepared dishes like Pho Tai, which is a beef broth soup that is served with light and airy rice noodles and slices of beef tenderloin that are so tender and juicy after marinating in the beef soup, that they melt in your mouth. Served with one sweet and one spicy sauce, steamed bean sprouts, lime and basil leaves, you can customize your own Pho. If you’ve never had Vietnamese cuisine before, Pho is a beautiful dish to try. Other have-to-try options include
their Broken Rice Noodle salads, Lamb Chops, the stuffed calamari (Muc Nhoi Tom) and, of course, the perfectly prepared steak with your choice of Filet Mignon, T-Bone, or Bone-In Ribeye, served with a side, and with your choice of the chef’s famous toppings, either the Tamarind Sauce, the Spicy Lemongrass Sauce or the Five Spices Sauce! The bar is stocked with an impressive blend of wine, fine spirits, beer (both domestic and non-domestic) and Sake. If you have the chance, try the French pressed coffee for dessert. If you are looking for the sweetest and the spiciest place in town for a night out, look no further than Spice Asian Fusion! Trinity Presbyterian Church, Where You’ll Find A Caring Church Family By Dara Tucker Trinity Presbyterian Church of Seven Springs is a caring church family united in their love for God, and they are committed to making disciples of all ages for Jesus Christ. From the road you can hear the church bells ringing, welcoming you to be part of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Seven Springs, at the intersection of Little Road and Cypress Lakes Boulevard, across from the Mitchell Park soccer fields. The church has a comfortable atmosphere and provides traditional services, along with worship opportunities for all ages making it a great choice for families. Visitors immediately feel embraced by the congregation, staff, and deacons, who will happily provide you information about the nursery, Sunday school, or other needs you may have to make your worship experience uplifting.

Pastor Philip Hollins received his Bachelor’s Degree from Montreat College in Montreat, North Carolina, and his Master’s of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Boston, Massachusetts. Reverend Hollins is married to Tracey Hollins, the Director of Youth Ministries at Trinity Presbyterian. The couple lives in the community and have four children ranging in age from nineteen through ten. Sunday worship services start with an 8:30 a.m. service followed by a 10 a.m. service. Sunday school for all ages meets at 11 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall (the building visible from Little Rd.). Families are welcome to attend either service, however, the majority of families with children attend the 10 a.m. service. One way that Trinity Presbyterian Church lets even the youngest members be included in the worship service is with bags called Pew

Pals. The bags are filled with items such as crayons, coloring sheets and prayer cards to keep young ones comfortable before they are called forward for the children’s message. After the children’s message, children are dismissed to Children’s Worship in the Fellowship Hall. A nursery is available for babies, or you may choose to watch and listen to the service in the “cry room.” This is an ingenious way to allow parents or grandparents to hear the message in a more private setting. The six core values that guide the

church include: traditional worship, engaging fellowship, biblical education, active missions, faithful stewardship and selfless servanthood. These core values can be seen in the numerous opportunities and activities that members and nonmembers alike can be involved in, in addition to Sunday worship. These include music ministries, bible studies, prayer shawl ministries, Trinity Travelers, and mission work. On Thursdays the pastor leads a 65 and younger men’s group from 67 a.m. called Man Up. The group for men 65 and older, Godly Old Men,
Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
meets from 7:15–8:15 a.m. Also meeting on Thursdays from 10–11 a.m. is the Java and Jesus group, which is for women of all ages. Choir practices weekly, and there is a handbell choir for middle school age children through adults, and a kids’ tone-chime choir for students in first grade through fifth grade. The prayer shawl ministries includes a group of women who knit together to make prayer shawls for families; traditionally given both in times of need and in times of celebration, such as a baby’s baptism. The Trinity Travelers is a group that plans excursions and outings, usually on a monthly basis. Some of their recent trips have included Tampa Bay Downs, ICE at Gaylord Palms, a winery tour, and a dolphin sightseeing cruise. Most of the trips are day trips, but they have recently also attended a 7-night Caribbean cruise. Trinity Presbyterian Church supports local missions such as Metropolitan Ministries and Beth-El Migrant Farm-workers Ministry of Southern Hillsborough County. Their mission work is an example of how Trinity Presbyterian rallies together to help others in the community and beyond.
Teaching Youth to Love God Director of Youth Ministries, Tracey Hollins, and Director of Children’s Ministries, Jeremy Marzicola, ensure there are plenty of ways for the children and teens to be involved with the church. The church holds a large vacation bible school each summer, which is open to the community. This summer the VBS theme is: Cave Quest from June 12–16, Sunday through Thursday, 6 – 8:30 p.m. Youth group meets on Sundays, and new members and guests are always welcome to join in for the food, crazy games, friends, and lively discussions about God. Kids-Family-Christ (KFC), geared for children ages five through fifth grade, focuses on learning through playing games, making crafts, singing and having a lesson based upon a bible theme. KFC meets on Sundays during the school year from 4-6 p.m. The church also celebrates an annual children’s Easter Celebration, has Trunk or Treat in the fall, and sponsors Boy Scout Troop #77. Alissa Klinger and her family relocated from Cheboygan, Michigan to New Port Richey this summer. With extensive experience in events and restaurant management and a real love for Wedding Planning, Alissa found a position as Events Director at Ace Golf, two family-owned golf clubs including Wentworth and Crescent Oaks Golf Clubs. Alissa’s passion for weddings has led to a surge in wedding events at the two popular East Lake area Golf Clubs. “I chose Wentworth and Crescent Oaks because of their two very different, beautiful reception venues. Also, as local, family-owned businesses, I have a lot more latitude to be creative and provide exceptional service,” says Klinger. Membership is not required to hold a wedding or event at either club, and the cost compares favorably with hotel and other venues. Wentworth offers a stately, upscale English Manor Clubhouse and Veranda. Crescent Oaks is a larger, Mediterraneanstyle banquet facility with sweeping views of the golf and a new outdoor event pavilion. Alissa helps brides plan their weddings with her calm demeanor, creativity, and attention to detail. “I was raised in a house-

hold with a stay-at-home mom who had an attention to detail like no other. Every dinner party was an exercise in planning and every holiday became an event where my mother’s creativity and desire to please others made for a spectacular gathering.” Alissa took her first Country Club Management position right out of college at an exclusive Golf Club in Northern Michigan. It was here that she started her journey in creating one-of-a-kind functions, creating lifelong memories. She later joined a resort restaurant and grew their non-existent catering business to a very busy wedding destination. Those considering a wedding or other event are invited to meet with Alissa for a tour and to exchange ideas. She is at Crescent Oaks Golf Club at 3300 Crescent Oaks Boulevard in Tarpon Springs, off East Lake Road a mile north of Tarpon (Keystone) Avenue. Alissa can be reached at 727-937-4653 x31. Chiropractic care is gaining popularity around the world for being an excellent solution for patients who experience neck or back pain, and even numbness or tingling arms and legs. People often turn to a chiropractor when traditional medicine does little to heal them from their chronic pain. When they feel the benefits, they begin to see chiropractic as more than a back doctor, but someone who can help alleviate pain all over the body, from migraines to allergies, and from their ears to their toes. Chiropractic is a whole-body, comprehensive and holistic approach to care that works! If you’re looking for a chiropractor that is highly skilled and takes a hands-on, personal commitment to your care, you should make an appointment with

Her experience, combined with her joyful spirit and positive attitude immediately puts people at ease, and helps them to relax and enjoy their treatment. Carolyn said, “I was hurt in a fall of two stories. I went to several chiropractors. They all sent me to pain management doctors. All they wanted to do was give me meds, not treat the problems. I found Dr. Cara Hacht. She not only treated me but got me off my old pain meds. She is very compassionate and knows what to do. I thank God I have Dr. Cara as my doctor.” Dr. Cara says, “My philosophy is just to get to the base of the problem and we work on that with exercises, therapy, adjustments and massage.” When you come in to see Dr. Cara, you can expect a compassionate and attentive experience. Next, you’ll most likely receive x-rays, which are done in the office. From there, Dr. Cara can prescribe a personalized therapy just for you. Using specific exer-

Dr. Cara has an incredible massage therapist on staff. An avid cyclist who raced with the West Coast Cycling Team, Nancy knows the importance of healthy muscles! In fact, she and Dr. Cara will be on hand to give massages at the Sunshine Gran Prix in March! Casey said, “Dr. Hacht and her staff are fantastic! When I started treatments here after my car accident, I felt overwhelmed and afraid. I had never been to a chiropractor and had no idea what to expect. Going here twice a week has helped my with my physical pain and put my mind at ease.”

The Time is Now to Reserve a Place at The Watermark at Trinity, Assisted Living with a Difference! By Julie Kanehl Forget what you think you know about assisted living, and discover the difference at The Watermark at Trinity. Currently under construction, The Watermark at Trinity, which is part of Watermark Retirement Communities, is well under way at 1960 Blue Fox Way, and they are already busy accepting reservations for Founding and Charter Residents. This incredibly beautiful new community is slated to open this Spring, and will include lush gardens, a packed activity schedule, a movie theater, Indulge Salon, nature trails, and that’s just a few of the things that new residents can look forward to. What’s more, they’re currently offering a sales incentive, so if you’re looking to be part of a community that caters to an active, fun-filled lifestyle, and also provides an amazing program for residents who qualify for Memory Care, call or visit The Watermark at Trinity right away. The accommodating and experi-

enced staff is inviting anyone who is interested in The Watermark at Trinity to come to the sales office, just across the street, at 10751 Maple Creek Drive, Suite 104. There, guests can choose from a variety of apartment floor plans, ask questions, and learn about some of the unique reasons that people all over the country choose Watermark Retirement Communities. Watermark Retirement Communities has 38 locations all over the United States – including three in the Tampa Bay Area - from Arizona to Washington State, and people are already very excited about this new community, as Watermark has built a reputation for providing an extraordinary living environment where residents and their families can thrive. Plus, they get it. They understand that when people leave their homes to move into a community such as this one, that doesn’t mean they have to leave their expectations behind. The Watermark at Trinity is going to be gorgeous, luxurious and staffed with experienced and qual-

ified personnel 24 hours a day to meet any need you may have. Aileen Carlson, Executive Director of The Watermark at Trinity, has 15 years of experience working at another Watermark Retirement Community, and says, “I’m excited about the opportunity to be the person who gets to spearhead the activities, the programming, the dining, and to help

create the feel and the vibe of the community.” Right now at The Watermark at Trinity’s sales center, residents are picking out their new apartments, and are able to have the pick of the litter. To be part of the first group of people to live there is very exciting! Everything will be brand new! The Watermark at Trinity is in the process of
Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
hiring a qualified team to be part of their staff, which means that The Watermark at Trinity will be the best of both worlds. The Watermark at Trinity Difference: Assisted Living Why choose The Watermark at Trinity? For one thing, they are creating a beautiful environment in which to live. Forget cramped, monotonous apartments that all look the same, Watermark understands and respects their residents and, in creating new neighborhoods for them, have listened to what people prefer. We’re talking about apartments that have plenty of natural light, architectural and design elements that redefine what assisted living looks like, and upgrades to impress. The grounds are going to be immaculately kept, with lobbies, sitting areas and dining areas that give off the impression of living in a resort. It will feel that way too, as residents don’t need to worry about cleaning, maintenance, grounds keeping or security. The staff also takes care of the housekeeping, laundry, linens and more. All utilities are included as well, except for phone, Internet and cable, which can be added easily and affordably. The staff at The Watermark at Trinity takes care of it all; with the goal of letting the residents simply enjoy their retirement! Have I mentioned the food yet? Because the food at The Watermark at Trinity is bound to draw people in all by itself. No more cooking, no more dishes, The Watermark at Trinity has hired Chef Joshua Marlowe to create menus that are not only healthy, but beautiful and delicious as well. They even offer room service! Speaking of service, when you become a resident at The Watermark at Trinity, you now receive access to a
trained staff that is available if you should need it, around the clock. With the staff acting as a liaison to your personal physician, you and your family can rest assured knowing that you are in good hands if the need for medical attention arises. While other assisted living centers around the globe create a rigid schedule to follow, Watermark has a totally different approach to assisted living. For example, in many places breakfast is served at a specific time and that’s it. Watermark believes that the community should adhere to your personal schedule and not the other way around. That means, if you like to enjoy your breakfast at 9:45 instead of 7:30 or vice versa, that can easily be arranged. It’s the simple things, sometimes, that make you feel at home. The Watermark at Trinity staff wants to do more than make you feel at home, they want you to relax and let them do the work. Don’t you deserve it? Offering regularly scheduled transportation, residents have access to places all over town, and The Watermark at Trinity staff is excited about all of the fantastic events that they are going to be putting on the calendar each month. Residents will have access to all kinds of exciting activities and classes. In fact, another unique program that Watermark has created is their Watermark University. Watermark University offers classes in just about anything you can imagine, from jewelry making to ballroom dancing, and from computer classes to classes where you can learn how to speak another language like Spanish or even sign language! The best part about Watermark University is that they understand that their residents have a wealth of knowledge to share, and many residents enjoy teaching classes about subjects
Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
that they know a lot about! Jennifer Naster is the Sales Director who helps people find their new home at The Watermark at Trinity. With many years of experience working for Watermark, Jennifer said, “One of our residents at another community taught a Watermark University class on seashells. She was an expert on shells and taught everyone about how shells are used in everything from décor to medicine. It was really interesting.” She added, “People love the opportunity to share what they know!” The Watermark at Trinity Redefines Memory Care For the many people who suffer from memory loss, dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, it’s truly important to provide a homelike environment that helps them feel happy, safe, secure and well provided for. The Watermark at Trinity has an entire floor dedicated to Memory Care, and programs that help each resident live happy, fulfilled lives. Have you ever heard of Nayas? The word, “Naya” is an ancient Sanskrit word that means guide or person of wisdom, and The Watermark at Trinity will have many qualified Nayas on hand to act as guides for the Memory Care residents, guiding them through praise and approval. Watermark Retirement Communities partners with the National Council of Dementia Practitioners to train their Nayas. People with dementia are often confused, and Watermark has experts on hand to make sure that you or your loved one is well taken care of at all times, focusing on what each resident can do, instead of what has become difficult to do. Just like with residents in Assisted Living, the food provided to residents in Memory Care is outstanding, nutritious and expertly prepared. Watermark has even come up with a completely unique way to provide nutritious meals to people who have a difficult time eating independently because of cognitive or neuromuscular challenges. This is their Thrive Dining Program. In fact, they’ve revolutionized the way people with cognitive or
physical disabilities eat by creating their own version of “Grind Dining™”, which basically takes a healthy, nutritious meal, ground into handheld one or two-bite appetizer portions. It’s simple, it’s easy and it’s a fantastic solution to helping those who would have a much harder time eating nutritiously otherwise. This program gives confidence to those individuals who need it most, and is unique to Watermark. Residents of Memory Care are active! That calendar is packed with fun activities that include many opportunities that are tailor-made for each person to receive some type of physical exercise. Watermark also uses music, art and dance to help people tap into their creative energy. Art is a wonderful way for people to communicate as well. Offering unique programs and amenities for the residents in Memory Care, such as a Personal Pantry Program, which allows families to supply their favorite snacks and foods, to providing outings that are typically unheard of in memory care environments, The Watermark at Trinity promises to help each resident make the very most of every day. If you or someone you love is interested in moving to a place that takes away the hassles and the chores, while providing a beautiful, safe, and exciting community to be part of, choose The Watermark at Trinity to call home. The Watermark at Trinity is being built at 1960 Blue Fox Way, Trinity, Florida 34655. Drive Away Cancer! Join the 6th Annual Golf Outing at Seven Springs Golf and Country Club on March 20th By Kim Thomas Cancer is a disease that knows no mercy, it doesn’t discriminate; rather, it rages against the very young to the very old of every race and color and every economic level. Every year more and more people are in need of support provided by organizations that focus on those dealing with and recovering from cancer. And sometimes, cancer seems to attack a family. When cancer hit the Millian family, a local family with a strong connection to the community and a habit of giving back, young Cody Millian didn’t just grieve – he took action. Cody, whose family owns local airconditioning and heating company Millian-Aire, started the JK Cancer
Fund in memory of his beloved grandfather John Kubek, who passed away from cancer in January 2010. The very first Drive Away Cancer was held to benefit the JK Cancer Fund. What started out as the heartfelt senior project of then 17year-old Cody Millian has steamrolled into an annual golf outing that, as of February 2016, has raised more than $180,000 to support organizations such as American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, James P. Gills YMCA’s Livestrong program, and the Pediatric Cancer Foundation, all of which will benefit from this year’s event. In its first year, Drive Away Cancer raised $10,000, far exceeding the Millian family’s expectations. Unfairly, cancer struck again and Sue Millian - Cody’s mom, John’s daughter, and the biggest supporter of Cody’s efforts - was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Sue attended the 2nd Annual Drive Away Cancer Golf Outing with no hair due to her personal battle against cancer. This family is not to be stopped, though. Three years ago, Sue joined other cancer survivors in the celebratory balloon re-
lease and will walk as a survivor again this year. Sue says that Cody’s passion is even stronger now after losing his other grandfather, Michael Millian, to cancer. With your support, Drive Away Cancer’s 6th Annual Golf Outing can be
bigger than ever. Set for March 20th at the beautiful Seven Springs Golf and Country Club (SSGCC) in New Port Richey (3535 Trophy Blvd), golfers can start registering at 11 a.m. for the 1 p.m. Shotgun Start. Every year the JK Cancer Fund Golf Outing is held at SSGCC, where every year it is supported by golf pros. Sue say this year she is very grateful for the SSGCC staff’s support with special thanks to Wendy McCann and Mark Haluska. It is fitting that the golf outing is held at SSGCC. Sue Millian says, “Mom and dad lived there and dad [the late John Kubek] was huge into golfing.” One of the great programs that the 6th Annual Drive Away Cancer golf outing will support is the Livestrong program at the James P. Gills YMCA in Trinity, which is a 12-week program designed to support not only adult cancer survivors, but their families too. Julio
Vega, District Vice President of YMCA West Pasco County, says, “This is a free program and no connection to the YMCA is necessary. These families are usually at the end of their wits, exhausted and with no money. This program helps them get strong and connected to others. It is through partnerships like the JK Cancer Fund that we can help strengthen the community. It takes strong community leaders like Sue Millian to help us. I’ve been involved in fundraising tournaments for [over] 20 years and I’ve never seen anything like the JK Cancer Fund’s Drive Away Cancer. People come away knowing exactly what they are there for –
Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
to help.” James P. Gills YMCA Adult Member & Wellness Services Director Denise Ferrara says, “When these kids come in here and see the pool and the kids’ gym, they are in awe! This program is great for survivors, but it is also good to see their kids making connections after going through so much.” Denise has a strong connection to Sue that began long before she supported her in her efforts fundraising. The two ladies became friends 18 years ago and bonded on the bleachers watching their kids play baseball, as spending late nights at the field in their roles as team moms. Denise jerked her thumb toward Sue, “This one will yell at you about staying up with your mammograms.” Sue adds, “Moms always put themselves last, but keeping up with mammograms is important.” Every year, members of the community show up to support Drive Away Cancer and this year you can too. There are many opportunities to support the
charity through donations, hole sponsorships, volunteering, and participating as a golfer. This is an outing where everyone has fun! There are great raffles, prizes, games set up at holes and more. Raffle tickets can win you big! How about Ruth Eckerd Hall performances, and tickets to big-name hockey and baseball games, plus restaurants gift certificates, gift baskets and much more! Sue and Cody are diligently gathering goodies. Sue says, “We always have so much great stuff. I want everyone who buys a raffle ticket to win something!” JK Cancer Fund raises funds throughout the year on the website, www.jkcancerfundinc.org, where you also can download forms for both sponsorships and registration. For more information, to register, donate for the raffles, volunteer or inquire about sponsorships, please contact Sue Millian at (727) 862-2100 or (727) 809-1695, sue@millianaire.com or jkcancerfund@gmail.com.

The Bleakley Bavol Law Firm – An “AV” Rated Full-Service Law Firm By Alexis Selby From commercial, tort, construction or employment litigation to corporate, business transactions, probate, estate planning or family law, no matter is too big or too small for the experienced attorneys at The Bleakley Bavol Law Firm. Conveniently situated on 5.4 acres, just north of the intersection of Bearss Avenue and US 41, at 15170 North Florida Avenue, Tampa Bay residents and those in the surrounding areas do not have to travel far to get excellent legal representation; Bleakley Bavol is your local full service “AV” rated law firm (the highest possible rating on Martindale Hubbell’s lawyer rating system) and is ready to help you, no matter what your situation may be. Managing partner Robert Bleakley has practiced law for over 23 years. After eight years practicing law in some of Tampa’s most respected downtown law firms, Bleakley opened the firm as a solo practice in April 2000. Originally located in the Bank of America Building in downtown Tampa, the firm’s early practice focused on defending trucking companies and larger business in auto, premises and workers compensation claims. However, almost from its inception, the firm began a 15 year trend of organic growth adding clients, new lines of business, and experienced attorneys. Today the firm employs 13 attorneys with further growth still planned. In 2008 the firm re-located from downtown to its current location near the corner of Florida and Bearss Avenue.
Strategic Growth Robert is accompanied by his partner Chuck Bavol, who joined the firm in March 2011, transitioning the name from The Bleakley Law Firm to The Bleakley Bavol Law Firm. “When Chuck joined in 2011 he brought in sophistication, experience and excellent trial strategies and technological tools that really advanced our practice and allowed us to provide even better services to our clients, particularly in the area of litigation,” says Robert. Chuck is nationally recognized as an outstanding litigator who has served as national trial counsel for Dow Corning and regularly handles high exposure product liability, medical device, medical

malpractice, and construction cases. In 2012 Robert’s long-time friend and fellow Avila neighbor, Rob Grace, joined the firm. Bleakley describes Grace as a “throw-back”. He says, “Rob has over 24 years of experience practicing law and is one of the states’ most respected workers compensation litigators. He is a ‘lawyers lawyer’ – professional, ethical, and one of the hardest working attorneys I know.” Grace leads a team of experienced workers compensation defense attorneys that include partners Dave Lamont and Crystal Corry. In 2015 the firm added north Tampa resident Kristen Allman, who spent the majority of her 28 year legal career as a board certified employment law specialist. Robert noted the firm has represented large companies and smaller businesses in employment disputes for years and adding an attorney with true specialization in the employment law area was something he had desired for many years. In addition, Robert noted the long time contributions of partners R.G. “Mack” McCormick, who has been with the firm since 2001 and who, along with Robert, represents national floor cleaning companies and large malls in premises liability claims and been to trial many times with Robert. “We have fought many battles together and there is no one else I would rather go to trial with than Mack. In a very similar way, our partner Melissa Krepps has been through numerous trials with Chuck Bavol. She is the guru of federal court procedure and has successfully argued at the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.” Robert says, “not all of your readers are a general counsel or risk manager of a large company seeking representation in commercial or tort cases. But everyone in your audience will probably need a lawyer at some point in their lives.” In 2006 Bleakley added Christina Hebert as a partner in order to provide legal services to local businesses and individuals in areas other than just litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Christina gained experience working in a small Tampa firm where she was a partner and handled corporate work and business transactions, guardianship and probate matters as well as drafted wills and formulated estate plans. At Bleakley Bavol Law Firm, you can expect personalized attention from lawyers who truly care about your individual case is really important to me. They need to be able to trust you and have confidence in the legal services you are providing them.” Maybe you already have a will in place, but your situation has changed, such as you have recently gotten a divorce. Did you remember to change your beneficiary designation? This is a common mistake that many people forget to do. Your will does not determine where all of your assets will go, the
beneficiary designation controls that. So if you forget to change that your assets can end up going to somebody that you didn’t want it to go to – such as your ex spouse. There are so many things to take into account when estate planning, so why not talk to the professionals at Bleakley Bavol so you know it will get taken care of properly!
Trust Is The Key To Success
Bleakley credits the firm’s focus on building trust with its clients as the reason it has been successful. “Trust is so important; the client has to know that their lawyer is looking out for them,” says Robert. “Most people start with a preconceived notion that lawyers are only looking out for their own best interests, but we go above and beyond to prove that we put our clients’ needs first and will always do what is in their best interests.

We preach to our new lawyers at every monthly meeting that we must take every opportunity to build trust with our client. In the end, if we can build that bond of trust with our client, where they know, because we have already proven it, that we are looking out for the client, we will be successful.” With an experienced roster of attorneys, The Bleakley Bavol Law Firm draws on its vast experience to advise its clients of the significant costs and risks of litigation. But with each legal matter, there is also a possible solution. Robert says, “What I like best about practicing law is finding the solution. Sometimes there is no good solution, so sometimes my job is to find the least bad solution – a way out. All of our attorneys are really good at understanding the problem, finding the best solution for the client and developing a plan to get them there.” Firm Administrator Jayme Bluffstone has been with the firm since 2004. She adds a different perspective on the growth and success of the firm. “We have great attorneys and an incredible staff supporting them. There is a lot of longevity in not only our attorneys but also our staff; our original legal secretary has been here with us for 15 years – since Robert opened the firm. I think

that says a lot about the environment that Robert and Chuck foster here. This firm is family and we grow it that way. We are very particular about the people we bring in because that is a representation of who we are. We are different – our employees often comment that the environment here is completely different than any other law firm where they previously worked. We intentionally run it that way. We are different with a purpose.” At Bleakley Bavol you get the best of both worlds, the experience, professionalism, and even an elegant legal environment, without having to drive downtown to get it. Christina Hebert added, “you can expect personalized attention from lawyers who truly care about you and your well being”. As their slogan proudly reads, “Large enough to handle complex cases, small enough to provide personalized service!” The Bleakley Bavol Law Firm is located at 15170 North Florida Ave. in Tampa. The firm is open 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Mon.–Fri.; appointment times available outside normal office hours. Better Health & Nutrition has Everything You Need to Take Control of Your Health By Julie Kanehl Today, there’s a growing understanding and a honest-to-goodness questioning of what is in our food, what is in our medicines, and why. It’s a good question to ask, and the research that is popping up is confirming many people’s feelings that we’ve progressed so far, yet when it comes to the wholesomeness of our food, the value of our daily nutrition, and the preservation of our bodies – we’ve become lost. While our big box stores and well-meaning markets try to balance the need for beautiful products to sell and the current trend toward the organic, it’s health stores like Better Health & Nutrition in New Port Richey that have stayed the course for many years, offering high quality natural products, supplements, vitamins and food. Located at 5336 Little Rd. in the River Crossing Center in New Port Richey, it’s the owners that set this

health store apart. Owners, Janice and Peter Dunn, are knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to guiding their customers, as many people don’t know where to start. Janice says, “We are not doctors, but I have owned and operated a health food store for 20 years before opening Better Health & Nutrition, and the whole concept for me is to try to keep people healthy by helping them change their habits, eat healthier and add supplements as an insurance policy.” Adding, “It’s about taking a wholesome approach.” Janice is actually a Master Herbalist, a Certified Nutritionist, a Licensed Massage Therapist, a Colon Therapist, a Reflexologist, and a super nice lady to boot. People love coming in and learning about everything from how cleanses can help the body’s digestive system, to learning about natural products that can help you sleep better, eat better and all around feel better. Janice and Peter suggest a down-to-earth, common sense and

prevention-first approach to health. If the body has the nutrition it needs, it will work better! Makes sense to me! It’s a simple, back to basics approach, and customers are grateful. If you’re not sure where to start, Janice and Peter suggest a cleanse, like ReNew Life First Cleanse which can help to remove the toxins that have entered your body through food and even through the pollutants in air and the water. ReNew also offers cleanses that focus on more specific concerns, such as a liver cleanse, a colon cleanse and there’s even a cleanse to help you quit smoking. Janice and Peter also provide a monthly nutritional blood cell analysis for their customers. A nutritional blood cell analysis can identify deficiencies and serious health concerns before they manifest into disease. Customers can make an appointment, and many have found this to be supremely helpful and eye opening. Customer Marty Ritzke said, “I

have been rather surprised at all of the knowledge Janice and Peter have on nutrition and health care. They are awesome people who really care for others. They have so much to offer and are a blessing to know. Every time I go into their health food store I leave more knowledgeable and with products to benefit my health concerns.” While other stores may carry natural products, what Janice and Peter provide is priceless information, in that they understand what each product does and can guide people to understand what they are made from and how they can help. Many people have the will, but don’t know the way, and that’s where Better Health & Nutrition is unique. It’s in understanding the different products and why they matter; it’s knowing their clientele and creating relationships with them, and then ordering products that fulfill their needs. More than that, it’s ordering products that they wholeheartedly rec-

“Dr. Monticciolo” Continued from page 1 each patient with the opportunity to have optimum oral health while having the smile they’ve always wanted. Cris Jiminez said, “I had to have multiple extractions and [be] fitted for first time dentures. It [was] the best dental experience I have ever had. I am severely afraid of the dentist due to multiple bad experiences but the sedation was wonderful and I slept through the whole thing. The staff is kind, caring, understanding and very positive. I love my new smile... wish I would have done this long time ago!” Changing the World One Smile at a Time with Dentistry From The Heart Dentistry From The Heart, which started out as a local event to serve those in need in New Port Richey, has now become a worldwide phenomenon that is a true lifesaver to those who can’t afford dental care. It’s spread so far that now there are 300 events a year in all 50 states, and in 5 countries around the world. Earlier this month, Monticciolo Family & Sedation Dentistry brought

in extra dentists, put up tents, and opened their door to hundreds of people, including many who camped out the day before in the rain, in hopes of receiving care from some of the best dentists around. Offering cleanings, fillings and extractions to hundreds of people, Dentistry From The Heart (DFTH) is a blessing to many, where the doctors say that, “The smiles are on us.” On February 5th, 2016, Neighborhood News & Lifestyles was there to cover the event, and what a heartwarming experience it was. People came from far and wide, and the parking lot was so full they needed to have an officer there to guide the traffic, but inside the event was streamlined, easygoing and lighthearted. People were truly grateful for the free dental care they received, and the many dentists who were there to provide their services were happy to be doing so. Dr. Monticciolo said before this year’s event, “We have 100 volunteers and 16 dentists at the ready! Last year we did more than 600 extractions. Many people who come to see us are in pain, and many travel a long way to get the free care.” Adding, “Last year we had someone who rode their bike

Isabella Monticciolo and her sister Sophia started collecting socks and filling them with necessities to hand out to those in need. Starting at their school, Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, they asked students to bring in supplies, starting with socks and adding essentials like shampoo and conditioner, lotion, nail files and more. Isabella said, “We urge people to donate the soaps, shampoos and lotions that they get when they go to a hotel, because they are perfect for those people who don’t have those things.” Socks 4 Love had their first event in February of 2015, and was at the Dentistry From The Heart event at Monticciolo Family & Sedation Dentistry earlier this month. Handing out Socks 4 Love to each grateful participant, Isabella and Sophia truly experienced the gift of giving and met a serious need while doing it. Isabella said, “When we started Socks 4 Love, we did not realize how our small steps would create such a big impact. After putting together our first event, we were astonished by everyone’s positive turnout. We appreciate all those companies who have helped us fill the socks and the volunteers

who spent hours with us preparing the socks for the big event. Without their contribution, none of this would have been possible. We wish to hold more events across the country in the near future.” Adding, “So far, we have stuffed more than 1000 socks since last year, and have donated to local homeless shelters. We are hoping to expand!” If you’re looking for a dentist who has experience and education, a dental team that can’t be beat, all the top-notch clinical tools and patient options available, and a heart for giving, then what are you waiting for?
