From The Editor Carla Selby I am fascinated by the relationship between where we live and our mental and emotional wellbeing. I truly believe that where we live has an impact on our overall happiness. After this month's interviews, appointments and meetings with several business owners in the Westchase area, I started to think about the importance of really liking the community we choose to live in. Richard Florida, one of the world's best-known urban theorists, believes that the place we live in is a fundamental contributor to our overall subjective well-being. It makes perfect sense considering the amount of time we spend in our homes and around our neighborhood. When the Gallup Organization looked at what gives you a high degree of emotional attachment to your neighborhood, the answers were pretty surprising. Obviously, having a low crime rate and great schools and good jobs are important, but there were two other factors that were really critical. The first was a community that treats all of its residents fairly— ethnic minorities, new immigrants, low-income people, young people, old people, families, entrepreneurs, artists.

And then the most important factor was what I call the quality of the neighborhood itself. Does it have trees? Does it have open space? Does it preserve its historic architecture? In other words, does it have some kind of physical beauty? This quality, the aesthetic character, was the number one factor. Which does not really surprise me. In today's world we worship beauty, so of course, if given the choice, we would all prefer to live in a "beautiful" neighborhood… and Westchase is in fact a beautiful, clean and safe place to live with fantastic amenities. Plus its central location makes it an even more attractive option when choosing a place to call home. West Park Village is a great place to spend some quality time with friends and loved ones. It's many shops, bars, restaurants and village greens, provide many options if you're looking for something fun to do. Some of the most highly rated bars in the Tampa area are located here. The area has a summer concert series, nightly specials at the different village restaurants, and an annual pub crawl. So it really comes to no surprise that Westchase ranked as the 26th coolest suburb in the United States worth a

If you have lived in the area for a while, you may remember the location as the home of the wellknown restaurant “City Fish,” which occupied the same space for years. If you’re like my wife and I, you definitely remember their famous Brunch, and felt a little disappointed when City Fish closed down. Well, we have great news for you! We’re happy to report that the same delicious brunch is back! And this time, with a fantastic twist of Mexican fare. Suegra Tequila Cantina is simply a new concept for the location, serving up some of the same old “City Fish” favorites, including their famous Brunch, with the addition of exotic dishes cooked in captivating new ways for a total scrumptious paradise of Mexican cuisine. “We knew we wanted to be different. We decided to go with a Mexican concept for this restaurant after realizing a true, authentic Mexican experience was few and far between. We don’t do ‘Tex-Mex’ style. Our culinary staff takes pride in treating our community to original recipes they learned from their own families in Mexico,” says Tyler Hipsley, who helps oversee Suegra’s operations. Suegra Is The Real Deal The food at Suegra is truly fresh and authentic and people are noticing it! “Food was just perfect. I had the chicken mole, which was absolutely delicious. Being Mexican myself I can vouch for the authentic taste of this dish,” says Jackie S. about her recent experience at Suegra. “I really enjoyed the fact that when the chips and salsa arrived there were actually 3 different tastings! A smoky bean, a flavorful green tomatillo and a more traditional red salsa. The chips were refilled a few times and they were always warm and crispy! and a plethora of savory breakfast options filled up a couple of my plates. Yum! They also had an impressive meat carving station featuring a whole roasted suckling pig and top round. Did I mention there was also a sizzling fajita station, a taco station and a whole table of just fabulous desserts featuring authentic Mexican flan, a chocolate fountain, fresh fruit and warm churros? Wow! So many delicious options for such a fantastic low price definitely make Suegra the best brunch buffet destination in the city! AHI TUNA LETTUCE WRAPS Fresh, Fresh, Fresh! Many of you know that I’m also a fishing guide, so it’s not very surprising when I tell you that I’m very picky when it comes to eating seafood in Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles
restaurants. And I absolutely love these Lettuce Wrapped Ahi Tuna Tacos and you will too! BLACKENED SALMON Salmon is one of those fish that cannot and will not ever be locally caught because they don’t inhabit our waters. For that reason, I typically don’t order it, but after experiencing the attention to detail and above all, the freshness Suegra Tequila Cantina offers, I went for it and I’m glad I did! T-he Salmon was perfectly blackened and cooked just right. It was topped with a fresh salmon ceviche and accompanied with plantain mash and deconstructed street corn. This dish was absolutely to die for. FLAT IRON STEAK This steak is fantastic! It’s literally
bursting with flavor that will have you second-guessing your own grilling skills. I’m not sure how they season it, and the chef wasn’t willing to share their secret recipe, but I do know that it is basted with a savory chipotle butter that really sets off the unique taste of the steak. This dish is also served with the best deconstructed street corn I’ve ever tasted, the scrumptiously unique plantain mash and a bit of guac to set it all off.
