Tru Beauté Med Spa: For a Beautiful You! By Marcy Sanford Facials and massages aren’t just a way to treat yourself, they are a vital necessity that can boost your confidence and self-esteem and help you with pain and skin problems. In Florida, where the sun shines most days, a facial is a way to keep your skin revitalized and looking its best despite daily sun damage. If your muscles ache from daily stress, a massage can be a great way to help you feel better and get relief from chronic pain. This is where Tru Beauté Med Spa steps in! A physician-owned spa that opened this past November, Tru Beauté Med Spa creates a relaxing and serene environment, where you can just sit back and relax and allow yourself to be pampered, helping you to feel rejuvenated and marvelous. Their professional staff offers a wide array of services and will work with you to customize a treatment plan to help you look and feel your best.

Valerie Manton-Amyot is a licensed and nationally certified massage therapist. Before coming to Tru Beauté Med Spa, she worked at chiropractic offices and injury centers and it definitely shows through her concern for her clients. “Many of my clients have had injuries or have recurring pain from stress or other issues,” states Valerie. “I enjoy being able to help them by relieving their pain. Each client is different and I work with them to de-

termine the best plan to help them.” Valerie is also certified in hot stone massage and has extensive experience with prenatal massage, deep tissue modalities, relaxation techniques and reflexology. The massage at Tru Beauté Med Spa was so great that I was still serene while supervising my kindergartener’s lunchroom table at school afterwards. I have the usual aches and pains that come from the regular stress and abuse we put our bodies through, plus a few more that have developed after turning 40, and Valerie was able to work them all out. She incorporates stretches into her massages and uses heated bamboo sticks. The combination of the heat and the stretches really enhanced the massage, giving my aching muscle some much-needed relief.

Facials If you have never had a HydraFacial, you should definitely try one. The HydraFacial is one of the most popular and effective facials Niven Kanaan offers at Tru Beauté Med Spa. “The HydraFacial treatment is the newest advance in non-laser skin resurfacing,” states Niven. “The facial is so effective because it treats skin from the dermis layer up – not just on the surface. We are unique at Tru Beauté because we are one of the few med spas in Tampa to offer this type of facial. The HydraFacial is the only hydradermabrasion procedure that combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and an-

tioxidant protection, resulting in clearer, more beautiful skin with no discomfort or downtime. The treatment is soothing, moisturizing, non-invasive and non-irritating. The HydraFacial treatment improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, congested and enlarged pores, oily or acne-prone skin and brown spots.” Suitable for most skin types, the HydraFacial can even be customized for more mature faces and deeper wrinkles by adding a protein to help skin build up with collagen. Niven works with her clients to determine their facial needs. “I customize my skin care procedures to each individual's needs, from anti-aging, acne treatments, scars, fine lines and wrinkles and more,” states Niven. The process begins with a Visia complexion analysis. The Visia machine takes a picture of your face that shows pore size, UV spots, sun damage and wrinkles. Niven uses this information to customize facials and tracks the effectiveness of the facials with subsequent photos. Niven can also help clients develop a regime to continue the benefits of the facial at home, with the highly effective Skin Medica line of products. After just one HydraFacial, my skin looked brighter and clearer and felt softer and smoother; I even noticed my brown spots became more faded.

I’m definitely hooked and can’t wait to have another one to see how much better my skin can be.

Permanent Makeup Tru Beauté Med Spa offers a full array of permanent makeup options, including eyelash enhancement, eyebrow shaping, and permanent eyeliner, as well as full lip color and lip liner. Using the hand method, the permanent makeup at Tru Beauté Med Spa is carefully and artfully applied, using a special cosmetic pigment by Softap, which is placed just below the surface of the skin using an etching motion. The best part is – there is no recuperation time – so as soon as the procedure is finished you leave with a naturallooking enhanced beauty without any delay!

Wrinkle Relaxers and Fillers If you are looking for a safe and effective way to diminish your fine lines and wrinkles and add volume and fullness to your face, then make an appointment at Tru Beauté Med Spa today and let expert technician Jenny add youth and beauty to your appearance with the use of wrinkle relaxers and fillers. Proof that a spa is a success is determined in part by its repeat clients. And Valerie, Niven and Jenny pride

themselves on the number of loyal clients they have maintained over the years. Soha Haidar has been a client of Niven’s for many years. In fact, Niven helped Soha look her best for one of the biggest days of her life – her wedding. Soha said, “Niven established a step-by-step program leading up to my big day. She began with face peels and ended with putting on my 3D lashes a few days before the wedding. I couldn't have been more relaxed and prepared for my wedding. I felt confident and absolutely beautiful. The day of wedding, Niven did my make-up, as well as my mother’s, my sister’s and my niece’s. We were absolutely happy with our make-up and looked stunning. I recommend Niven Kanaan and Tru Beauté Med Spa for any occasion, they provide excellent and professional service. Thank you for making my wedding experience easy and stress less." Dr. Galeano Is Dedicated To Creating Your Best Smile By Julie Kanehl When choosing an orthodontist for your child or for yourself, it is important to choose someone who is educated, experienced and dedicated to the wellbeing of their patients. Fernando Galeano, D.D.S., M.S.D., is all of those things and more. Located in the Cypress Professional Center, just off of Tampa Rd. in Oldsmar, Dr. Galeano’s office is just a short drive from Palm Harbor, East Lake, and Westchase.

Meeting Dr. Galeano Dr. Galeano earned both his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and his Master of Science in Dentistry at the Temple University Dental School in Philadelphia, PA in 1989. He is the third generation in his family to be involved in dentistry, so you could definitely say that improving smiles is in Dr. Galeano’s blood. He puts his patients and their families first, and believes in really spending the time to get to know them. He has worked in this area for over 20 years, and after being

16

part of a larger group practice for many years, he opened his first practice in 2002 in Tampa near USF. In 2006 he opened up this new location and has enjoyed building this practice from scratch. “I really enjoy the hands-on aspect of working with patients. I enjoy talking to my patients and their parents and giving them my undivided attention,” says Dr. Galeano. Dr. Galeano, who was born and raised in Honduras and is fluent in Spanish, is a family man. Married for 16 years to his lovely wife, Claudia, he is the father of two teenagers, so he completely understands all sides of the equation when it comes to kids and orthodontics. The importance of a beautiful and healthy smile is an affordable investment that continues to pay off for the rest of a person’s life, and more than that, when teeth are aligned properly, they perform the way that they are supposed to, preventing pain and problems down the road. Having a beautiful smile is important for more than aesthetic reasons. Teeth that are not overly crowded are easier

Fernando Galeano, D.D.S, M.S.D to clean, floss and take care of. Dr. Galeano is committed to continuing his education so that he is up on the latest technology in his field, and he is a member of many organizations within his field including: The American Dental Association, Florida Association of Orthodontists, Hillsborough County Dental Association, Pinellas County Dental Association, West Coast District Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, Southern Association of Orthodontists, American Association of Orthodontists and the World Federation of

Orthodontists. Kerry Raynor says, "My daughter Megan is a patient. What I love about him is that he sees her personally and he adjusts her braces, instead of her getting an assistant or technician. My daughter needed headgear because of an overbite, and now her smile is so beautiful. There's been such a huge difference in her smile. We’ve been thrilled. He’s so warm and so good, and there’s never been any pain, and she is very happy with the results.” Treatment for Children and Young Adults Dr. Galeano offers free consultations for his patients, and sees patients of all ages. After all, it’s never too late to improve your smile, but most of his patients are children and young adults. The American Association of Orthodontists actually recommends that children come in for their initial screening appointment around 7 or 8 years of age. This is a free screening that helps Dr. Galeano to make a plan that is personalized for each child. Dr. Galeano says, “The first per-

manent molars come in at that time and it’s important to have a screening to see what is happening and to see if there are any problems that can be intercepted.” Interceptive Treatment can be done on children who have a crossbite, or who have had a thumb-sucking habit that affected their teeth, or who have severe crowding. Just like anything else medical, when you catch things like this early, they are easier to treat. Dr. Galeano sometimes applies braces during this part of the treatment plan, but most of the time he uses apparatuses and orthodontic appliances to address any problems. Normally, Dr. Galeano recommends that girls begin getting braces between the ages of 9-11, and boys between the ages of 10-12 when most of their molars have come in. The reason to begin early, he says, is because while a patient is still growing, a good orthodontist can use the growth to their advantage and guide the teeth along into the right place. Braces come in a wide variety of styles, but the goal is the same. Whether you are looking for traditional metal braces, gold braces, ceramic braces (with clear brackets), or

Invisalign braces, Dr. Galeano can assess your child’s orthodontic needs and provide a treatment that is effective and affordable. The average full orthodontic treatment lasts two years, and Dr. Galeano’s practice accepts most Dental PPO plans, and he offers an interestfree finance program that allows the treatment to be broken up into affordable payments. “Whenever possible, I try to help parents out and keep the cost down,” says Dr. Galeano.

Adult Treatment It is never too late to improve your smile. Many adults who did not have the opportunity to have braces when they were young are finding that a beautiful smile increases their self-esteem as well as their overall oral health. Invisalign is a system of clear trays that align your teeth over a period of time, and they are very popular with adults who want to improve their smile without having the appearance of wearing braces. During the initial examination, Dr. Galeano would take x-rays and look at the patient’s overall dental health to assess

the best plan of action. One thing is for sure, regardless of your age, Dr. Galeano and his staff will make you feel welcome, make sure you are comfortable and educated about each step of the process, and make sure you are smiling ear-toear when your orthodontic treatment is complete. A beautiful smile is an investment that continues to pay off for years and years to come, so why wait? Come in and see Dr. Galeano for a complimentary consultation right away.

Galeano Orthodontics is located at 150 Pine Avenue N., Suite A, in the Cypress Professional Center of Oldsmar. Office hours are Monday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.; on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, Dr. Galeano works out of his Tampa location. Patients can see Dr. Galeano at either location. He created this informative website so that future buyers and/or sellers can get in-depth knowledge about our lakes.

Chris says, “Good real estate agents can be compared to professional surfers. When they see a big wave coming in they get themselves in the perfect position to catch that wave and ride it to the best of their ability, because the next wave may not be nearly as big. Right now we are experiencing a wave of hungry buyers with very little good food in the buffet line. It’s time to work hard and find these buyers some homes!” As the real estate market starts to pick up again, the options you have as a seller begin to flourish and with the help of Chris, as your listing agent, you will be ensured that your house or property receives its full worth in a selling transaction. “As a listing agent my job is to get you the most money for

“Surf Shack” Continued from page 1 worked out really great.” Adam and Jason grew up helping with Jim’s restaurants, that is, when they weren’t hanging out at the beach, which is where they learned many of the valuable lessons that have led to the creation of Surf Shack Coastal Kitchen. "Surf Shack really began as a dream amongst all of us," says Adam. "We wanted to celebrate the surf culture." There are plenty of restaurants that serve seafood, but Surf Shack Coastal Kitchen takes it a step further, importing food that isn’t just the standard beach fare. The fish tacos, combined with the Mexican and Asian-inspired cuisine is not like most meals offered by the typical beach restaurants. If you close your eyes, Surf Shack Coastal Kitchen makes you feel like you are on the ocean in Southern California with not a care in the world and surfboards adorn the walls and hang from the ceilings with a true California motif. If you don’t look past the tiki– styled outdoor dining area into the parking lot you might swear you were in SoCal. “This is about a lifestyle,’’ says Jason. “We want to make people

feel like they are in Southern California, without the exorbitant costs of living on that coast.” Surf Shack Coastal Kitchen was built with as many ‘green’ and recycled materials as possible. The take-out containers are biodegradable and Earth-friendly, and, like many people who ascribe to the California lifestyle, there are plenty of healthy alternatives on the menu. Even the walls are made of reclaimed wood. As for the menu, the food is fresh and everything is made-to-order. “From our homemade tortilla chips and our ‘Almost Famous Salsa’ all the way to our made-to-order-freshsqueezed margaritas with all-natural agave nectar, we do all we can do to give you the freshest menu choices,’’ states Jason. “We are all about fresh and vibrant flavors, which is why we use as many local and organic items as possible.”

The fare at Surf Shack Coastal Kitchen ranges from burgers to quesadillas, with many exotic options to choose from as well; but there’s one thing that really defines them – the tacos. They serve tacos in almost every way imaginable and the fish tacos are a true specialty. Thursdays are the big day at ‘The Shack’ when tacos are $2 all day and if there is a line, the wait is worth it. If fish tacos aren’t for you, check out their filet mignon tacos – they are out of this world! You also have the option of combining filet and shrimp in the Surf and Turf Tacos that boast a distinct Hawaiian/Asian taste that is incredible. Other favorites include the Bangin’ Shrimp Tacos, the Longboard Fish

Tacos, and the Bonzai Tacos. In case you haven’t noticed, there is a bit of a trend towards the tacos, even though the menu is filled with many other options. The Bangin’ Shrimp Tacos, filled with Gulf shrimp, lettuce, tomatoes, and sliced avocado, along with chipotle mayonnaise are definitely not an item to be missed and really takes the taco to an entirely new level. If tacos aren’t the way you want to go, check out the Tuna Poke Salad, which is served up with fresh sushi grade tuna, sliced jicama, and tossed in a mango passion fruit dressing. The Citrus Seafood Salad and the Taco Salad (there goes the tacos again), are some other Surf Shack favorites). The Citrus Seafood Salad is a combination of beer battered cod, shrimp, cilantrolime aioli, and pico de gallo. The Taco Salad, served with marinated chicken, guacamole, sour cream and mixed greens, showcases these delicious selections inside a red-chili tortilla shell. The Asian-fusion food, which is extraordinary in both taste and presentation, is capped off by the bowls, which come in a variety of styles that use organic noodles and freshly made sauces. “Each of our bowls are made with organic noodles and sauces like the citrus soy sauce and our Thai peanut sauce,’’ states Jason.

A Therapy Like No Other at Quantum Leap Farm By Lynn Bankston How would you like to find a dynamic and fun way to heal and thrive? Hippotherapy – physical therapy with horses – is a fun, oneof-a-kind therapy for children and adults… and we’re not just horsingaround! At Quantum Leap Farm we have recently added Hippotherapy to our existing therapeutic riding and equine assisted self-exploration programs. Hippotherapy is a very dynamic and exciting therapy that utilizes traditional physical, occupational, and speech therapy treatment

strategies. These are combined with a horse’s natural movement to create a program that achieves optimal, functional outcomes for every participant. We use horses to help people overcome physical challenges. In Hippotherapy, horses provide a dynamic base of support to stimulate trunk control and core strength, consistent and rhythmic stimulation, and sensory integration. Research shows that many therapies become more beneficial when coupled with repetitive, patterned rhythms. A rider experiencing a horse’s gait at the walk or trot can enhance improvements in function aided by the horse’s natural rhythmic movement. This movement activates muscles, reflexes, and neuro networks involved in postural control, motor planning, walking, body awareness, sensory systems, and a variety of other factors involved in retraining and returning

injured bodies to higher function. The types of challenges we address here include orthopedic dysfunctions, neurological deficits, balance & vestibular issues, amputations, and general muscle weakness or deconditioning. We are working with children with ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, orthopedic issues, and many more conditions. The best part of Quantum Leap Farm’s Hippotherapy program is that it is fun. Clients who are coping with challenges and pain find interacting with our horses, therapists and instructors, volunteers and their fellow participants as healing as the therapeutic movement itself! We focus our treatments on improving the activities of daily living along with the unique goals of each client. There are very few individuals who could not participate in our pro-

Quantum Leap Farm horses are selected with great care and consideration for safety. Therapy horses have extensive training and all of them have wonderful personalities. We work with our horses carefully to maintain their health and interest in their therapeutic work. We also make sure that they get to relax and be outside—that they get to be horses everyday! We really enjoy what we do here at Quantum Leap Farm and invite you to call if you’d like to come for a visit. We are glad to answer your questions about any of the programs we offer. Contact Quantum Leap Farm Tuesday through Saturday. We would love to see you soon! Quantum Leap Farm can be reached at (813) 920-9250, or call Lynn Bankston, MPT, directly at (813) 957-7174. Check out our website www.quantumleapfarm.org for more information and be sure to look at our calendar of events. Let us know how you would like to become involved with Quantum Leap Farm!
