things. Yes, we do business features on our advertisers, because they are loyal to us and spend good money to place an ad within the pages of our publication. But, it’s not to say we don’t provide feature articles on non advertisers as well. For example, Ciccio Cali received a great dining feature in our very first issue just because we love their food and enjoy the experience my wife and I receive every time we visit. We write these stories as a thank you to the fantastic local businesses in our area. Speaking of that Ciccio article, I’d like to thank all the readers who went out to Ciccio Cali after reading that dining write up we did. Ciccio Cali told us they got very busy after all of you read it. I’m sure those pictures alone sold many of you on giving them a try! Ad campaigns with us are simple, effective and cheaper than anything comparable! If you find something comparable with our quality and distribution we’ll beat their price, and that’s a guarantee! In most cases we can even beat the price of a media outlet with lesser quality and circulation! Our readers know
In truth, this editorial is directed towards New Tampa area Business owners and serves to prove why reaching their target market of local customers with our magazine is so effective. With that being said, if you don’t own a local business and are strictly a consumer, I still would like you to read this, so stay with me. When you flip through our pages month in and month out you’ll see the same simple concept- the notion of fueling a “shop local” mentality. Our readers know this about us and they understand we aren’t trying to provide them with anything other than what we are, and that’s a quality local publication that prides itself on covering what’s going on in New Tampa and surrounding areas and the intricate web of entrepreneurial innovations our local business owners possess. If you read my first editorial I briefly touched on how impressed I am and continue to be with the business owners in our community and
their story. Every single one of you have a story to tell and most of you probably have already come to the conclusion that if you could just tell everyone that special story of yours, you’d have a lot more customers; customers that understand not only your business but also YOUR unique and inspiringly powerful journey. Our readers want to know what sets your business apart from competitors in the area. They want to know why they should spend their hard earned dollars with you and not your competitor down the street. The pages of this magazine offer you a chance to tell that story! Here’s something we aren’t: we aren’t “that publication” that allows advertisers to pay to write their own “advertorial” all about how great they are and how everyone else is left in the dust. We take the confidence our readers place in our words extremely serious so we have a very straight forward way of doing

“It’s All About the Kids!” As parents, we want the best for our children. We want to provide them with a safe and happy home, to give them the opportunities they need to learn, and we want to make sure they have excellent medical and dental care so they can grow up healthy. If you are looking for a dental office where the dentists and the staff want, and provide, those same things for your child – a safe and happy environment, opportunity to learn, excellent child-focused dental care – you will find it at the Pediatric Dentistry office of Dr. Duga, Dr. Feeney & Associates. Located in Tampa at 15293 Amberly Drive in the Somerset Professional Park, this ocean-themed
pediatric dental office is not only bright and cheerful; it is convenient in more ways than one. Patients and their families are a top priority here and every effort is made to ensure that your child’s dental visit is a great experience for the whole family. Dr. Duga, Dr. Feeney, and their staff are helpful in every way – from making your child feel excited about coming to the dentist to navigating the insurance companies for you. Office Coordinator Renee Mari, says, “We are here to help patients facilitate their insurance and we really go above-and-beyond to make the whole experience here easy and enjoyable. We have a fabulous staff and we all get along great, and the patients see that – they can see that we enjoy our jobs.”
The waiting room is comfortable and spacious, and parents are welcome to have a coffee or tea and relax while they wait. Or, Dr. Feeney and Dr. Duga welcome parents to come into the treatment area during their child’s visit. There is a sweet spot for siblings, too! They will feel like they’re in a submarine while they play games or watch movies in a play area complete with underwater murals and paintings of whales and manatees swimming overhead. All the time, parents tell the
dentists, “My kids love coming here!” They like it when it’s their turn, and they like it when it’s their siblings turn because everyone knows, time flies when you’re having fun. “It really is all about the kids,” says Paul H. Duga, DDS, who truly enjoys working with kids of all ages into their young adulthood. He has a lot of faith in the youth of today, and as a mom to young adults myself, I appreciated his positive outlook when he said, “We have so many cool pa-

tients, I enjoy listening to them – the future looks bright to me, not scary, because there are some great kids coming up.” Dr. Duga and his wife Sue moved to the New Tampa area to raise their three children because of the positive family-oriented lifestyle that the area promotes. When he had this new office built-out nearly twelve years ago, he already had a successful pediatric practice, but with the opportunity to build the perfect place for his patients, he traveled to Austin, TX to meet with an architect who specializes in dental offices. The result is magnificent! Efficient, vibrant, energetic, with an open treatment area as well as private treatment rooms, this practice is
perfect for kids of all ages from toddlers at their first check-up to teens needing their wisdom teeth extracted. Sometimes, even newborns are dental patients! Dr. Feeney recently had a newborn patient who was born with teeth. Shawna AdamsFeeney, DMD, joined the practice more than ten years ago, and she too, has a great attitude and truly loves working with kids. Dr. Feeney grew up in the area and she and her husband, who is a dentist in Clearwater, have two young children. Dr. Feeney gave me a tour and explained how the open floor plan of the treatment area actually helps to ensure kids, “Kids do well modeling after each other and when they see other kids happy and talking, it is a better atmosphere. We want them to have positive experiences that they can build on. We take extra time to cater to every child because it is so important to us that we create a positive experience for them from a young age.” Dr. Feeney has privileges at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, and she

has experience working with physically and mentally handicapped children, as well as children who are autistic. Dr. Feeney and Dr. Duga treat dental emergencies in children as well. As every parent knows, kids are rambunctious in play and sports and dental emergencies happen. That’s why it’s important to have a great pediatric dental office that you can rely on. Dr. Duga and Dr. Feeney both feel that education is a key component in providing excellent pediatric dental care. They take time to teach their young patients to care for their teeth and foster life-long habits that will help keep them healthy. “We want get them on the right track,” says Dr. Feeney. “As a pediatric practice, our focus is prevention more than anything – we want to help our patients to have good habits.” It seems to be working, Dr. Duga shares, “We look at the long-term; we want each child to be healthy now and to have a healthy future. Most of our teen patients have great teeth – no cavities, no fillings – and they’ll go through life with healthy teeth and gums. I tell the staff all the time, ‘The most important thing is the education they walk away with; that will benefit them their whole lives.’” Dr. Feeney and Dr. Duga know
how important your children are to you. Both have families of their own and when providing a positive dental experience to their patients, one thing resonates above all else – it’s a simple concept, as Dr. Duga says, “Dr. Feeney and I treat our patients the way we’d want our kids treated.” Patients truly appreciate the care their children receive from Dr. Duga, Dr. Feeney and their staff. Dr. Duga says that over the years, they’ve had patients who have had to leave because of insurance changes or moving, but many times, they end up coming back anyway, even when they have to travel, because they simply can’t find another practice as good for their kids. Parents drive their children from as far out as Brooksville to make sure their children get the best care and enjoy the kid-friendly chairs and amenities at Dr. Duga, Dr. Feeney & Associates, Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Duga, Dr. Feeney & Associates, Pediatric Dentistry is located at 15293 Amberly Drive in Tampa. Please call 813-631-1100 to set an appointment. new location on W. Fletcher Avenue in 2012. What a boon for our area, as they have expanded from three to fourteen employees since then! And now, I understand, they are in the process of opening a second location in the Riverview area within the next few months to optimize their presence in the southern portions of Hillsborough County as well. By the way, there’s still 3500 square feet available in the center of the Trotter Terrace complex should you want to pursue your own entrepreneurial dreams and are looking to start a small business in the area! Talk to Jim and Elaine– they are pros! There are four consultants on staff who can help you to envision the possibilities for your home. First, they can address your specific needs in the well-appointed showroom and/or secondly, they are poised to assess your space on site, taking into account the following criteria: Fashion and style, Heat, Solar, Privacy and Glare control. Elaine quickly noted, “We have a solu-
tion for every window and a style for every budget, as well.” Once a novelty, it seems that motorization has become a lifestyle here in Florida, ergo, programmable window coverings are also available to address any proximity or security issues that you may have. leased their building on the street side of Trotter Terrace. Elaine explained that in 2008, their Budget Blinds showroom was originally situated in Land O’ Lakes, where the two of them started to live their dream of escaping corporate America by owning their own business and giving back to the community. After a few years of honing their craft, they developed a thriving business and finally outgrew their facilities. Having found the North Tampa location to be much more capable of serving their growing clientele within Pasco County, Springhill and Brooksville et al and a large part of Hillsborough County, they moved to their

different vendors. As a result, they are able to offer you great options, prices and warranties not seen anywhere else in the industry! Just ask them about their 5-year “No Questions Asked” Warranty Program for their PureVu® and Norman® shutters. You’ll see that it’s quite impressive. Here’s the amazing thing, though… The second part of the Trotters’ dream has been undertaken in a big way. They lend their support to our local Habitat for Humanity by donating blinds, as well as to Metropolitan Ministries by being a drop off site for food and toys. Elaine saw my eyes grow bigger while I was taking copious notes. She then summed things up rather well by saying, “We’ve been embraced by our local neighborhood and feel it is important to give back to our community.” But that’s just the beginning… Under the larger umbrella of Budget Blinds, a division of Home Franchise Concepts (HFC), they are helping our returning veterans by partnering with Homes for Our Troops. They (and other franchisees) are donating $1 for every window covered, which over a 3-year period, will provide window coverings across the country in every HFOT home. Homes for Our
Troops is a privately funded nonprofit organization that builds specially adapted, mortgage-free homes for the most severely injured Veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan post 9/11. Most of these Veterans are multiple amputees, paraplegic, quadriplegic or have suffered severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). The homes built for these Veterans will help to restore the freedom and independence that they sacrificed while serving our nation, thus enabling them to focus on family, recovery and rebuilding their lives. Wow! There even ways you can personally help, if you are so inclined… just ask and Elaine, Jim or any of their staff to fill you in on the details. This initiative follows Corporate Budget Blinds’ existing commitment to offer veteran-friendly franchise op-

It’s no wonder that they have a steady stream of returning customers and referrals to delight anew. There are even commercial applications like Burger King, Tijuana Flats and apartment complexes like Citrus Run, near Sheldon Road) in the mix.
Suffice it to say that the Trotters and their staff are equipped to handle all your window covering needs. Let them assist you the next time you want to maximize the possibilities within your home or business, “whatever the dilemma.” Hope to see you there soon! Pianin, Au.D., understands just how important it is to not only address hearing loss, but to be proactive about the health of your hearing in order to help prevent hearing loss in the future, and with over 17 years experience as a Board Certified Audiologist, accompanied by a doctorate in Audiology, she has the knowledge and skills to help you with the highest level of professionalism and compassionate quality care! My favorite part is the pleasant surprise on my patients’ faces when they can actually hear. I have had patients brought to tears with the excitement and anticipation after putting it off for so long and finally being able to hear with their new device. Most of my patients end up saying that if they knew how great they could hear and how much it could improve their lives they would have done it a long time ago.” Florida Medical Clinic Audiology provides comprehensive diagnostic testing for children and adults as well as hearing aid options from basic devices all the way up to the most cutting edge technology. In addition, they carry other ear related devices, such as in -ear monitors for musicians, hearing protection for shooters and law enforcement, swim plugs, and many other types of accessories that have to do with either improving or protecting your hearing.
