Tampa Bay’s Oldest High School Robotics Team to Storm the Castle at the 2016 FIRST Stronghold Competition In 2016, more than 3,000 teams comprised of more than 78,000 students from around the world will compete for glory in FIRST STRONGHOLDSM. Dubbed a varsity Sport for the Mind™, FIRST Robotics Competition combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. It’s the only school sport where all members may turn pro if they choose. Teams of 10 or more high school students (ages 14-18/grades 9-12) are challenged to build and program a robot to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors, raise funds, design a team “brand,” and hone teamwork skills. It’s as close to real-world business and engineering as a student can get! With only six weeks to build, program and test their robot, Tampa Bay’s oldest high school robotics team in its 19th season, East Lake High School’s FIRST Team 79 KRUNCH has been working busy six-day weeks to design and construct their champion contender. The team unveiled

8

their robot during Media Night at East Lake High School on Tuesday, Feb. 23rd. “We are so proud of the time and dedication these students, mentors, and our new coach Taycora Canfield have dedicated to this team,” says Valerie Lockwood. “Many have worked up to 25 hours a week.” She adds, “Aside from building the robot, Team 79 KRUNCH students have also participated in community service, fundraisers, and started a new chapter of JRFLL (Jr. FIRST Lego League) to expand and grow STEM in our community!” This year’s team president is ELHS Senior Pierce Hitchcock, who has been accepted to the Aerospace Engineering program at Embry-Riddle, explained some of the challenges the robot must conquer in a medieval themed game of “dodgeball” where the robot must score with a 10-inch ball into a high goal and a low goal. FIRST Team 79 KRUNCH’s robot is limited to a specific weight of 120 pounds and features a hook design

that will grapple a 6-foot high bar. It includes a loading mechanism that retrieves “boulders” to fire into a small goal. It will also consist of mechanisms and a drive train designed to conquer several types of obstacles such as an area of rough terrain, a raised drawbridge, and a lowered castle gate. Pierce says, “We have defenses in our way – walls we have to lift, obstacles on the ground, and we have to get

MARCH 2016

through those defenses to score. There is an autonomous mode where the robot must perform programmed steps automatically for 15 seconds.” Pierce explained some of the commands software engineers use – encoder tells the robot the distance it needs to travel and potentiometer determines the amount of rotations it needs to make. Coach Taycora Canfield says

about the FIRST program, “I really like what it does for our kids socially. They learn life skills they can take with them whether they go into engineering or not.” Ms. Canfield says that she talked to the team about ways they can get younger students interested and Freshman Jake Lockwood volunteered to help. Now Jake and others from the team are mentoring the Jr. Lego program at Excel Creative Learning Academy. Jake says, “We build a robot – yes, but we also inspire other students to become engineers.’ Along with the development of the Stronghold robot, ELHS’s FIRST Team 79 KRUNCH consistently participates in community outreach. In the last year, the team has conducted 28 demos including the SPARK and Rotary Club demos, and it continues to mentor VEX, FLL, and FRC teams at primary schools in the area supporting the Science, Technology, Engi-

neering, and Math (STEM) education. Outside of robotics the students participate in food drives, Relay for Life, the annual “Angel Tree” collection and the Pinellas Mobile Hazardous Material Collection. The team consists of sixty students guided by mentors from Honeywell, GE, and other local corporations involved with STEM. “This transitional year has proven to be a milestone in Team 79 KRUNCH’s history,” says coach and ELHS teacher Taycora Canfield. “The students, mentors, families, and school personnel have pulled together to continue this great program. Our team is eager to unveil this year’s robot and take it to Stronghold!” FIRST® TEAM 79 KRUNCH ROBOTICS, 1300 Silver Eagle Drive, Tarpon Springs, FL 34688; www.teamkrunch.com; Team79Krunch@gmail.com

Drive Away Cancer! Join the 6th Annual Golf Outing at Seven Springs Golf and Country Club on March 20th By Kim Thomas Cancer is a disease that knows no mercy, it doesn’t discriminate; rather, it rages against the very young to the very old of every race and color and every economic level. Every year more and more people are in need of support provided by organizations that focus on those dealing with and recovering from cancer. And sometimes, cancer seems to attack a family. When cancer hit the Millian family, a local family with a strong connection to the community and a habit of giving back, young Cody Millian didn’t just grieve – he took action. Cody, whose family owns local airconditioning and heating company Millian-Aire, started the JK Cancer Fund in memory of his beloved grandfather John Kubek, who passed away from cancer in January 2010. The very first Drive Away Cancer was held to benefit the JK Cancer Fund. What started out as the heartfelt senior project of then 17-year-old Cody Millian has steamrolled into an annual golf outing that, as of February 2016, has raised more than $180,000 to support

10

organizations such as American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, James P. Gills YMCA’s Livestrong program, and the Pediatric Cancer Foundation, all of which will benefit from this year’s event. In its first year, Drive Away Cancer raised $10,000, far exceeding the Millian family’s expectations. Unfairly, cancer struck again and Sue Millian - Cody’s mom, John’s daughter, and the biggest supporter of Cody’s efforts - was diagnosed with breast cancer. Sue attended the 2nd Annual Drive Away Cancer Golf Outing with no hair due to her personal battle against cancer. This family is not to be stopped, though. Three years ago, Sue joined other cancer survivors in the celebratory balloon release and will walk as a survivor again this year. Sue says that Cody’s passion is even stronger now after losing his other grandfather, Michael Millian, to cancer. With your support, Drive Away Cancer’s 6th Annual Golf Outing can be bigger than ever. Set for March 20th at the beautiful Seven Springs Golf and Country Club (SSGCC) in New Port Richey (3535 Trophy Blvd.), golfers can

For Ad Info 727-943-2946 • www.NNLFlorida.com

start registering at 11 a.m. for the 1 p.m. Shotgun Start. Every year the JK Cancer Fund Golf Outing is held at SSGCC, where every year it is supported by golf pros. Sue say this year she is very grateful for the SSGCC staff’s support with special thanks to Wendy McCann and Mark Haluska. It is fitting that the golf outing

MARCH 2016

is held at SSGCC. Sue Millian says, “Mom and dad lived there and dad [the late John Kubek] was huge into golfing.” One of the great programs that the 6th Annual Drive Away Cancer golf outing will support is the Livestrong program at the James P. Gills YMCA in Trinity, which is a 12-week program designed to support not only adult cancer

East Lake Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

survivors, but their families too. Julio Vega, District Vice President of YMCA West Pasco County, says, “This is a free program and no connection to the YMCA is necessary. These families are usually at the end of their wits, exhausted and with no money. This program helps them get strong and connected to others. It is through partnerships like the JK Cancer Fund that we can help strengthen the community. It takes strong community leaders like Sue Millian to help us. I’ve been involved in fundraising tournaments for [over] 20 years and I’ve never seen anything like the JK Cancer Fund’s Drive Away Cancer. People come away knowing exactly what they are there for – to help.” James P. Gills YMCA Adult Member & Wellness Services Director Denise Ferrara says, “When these kids come in here and see the pool and the kids’ gym, they are in awe! This program is great for survivors, but it is also good to see their kids making connections after going through so much.” Denise has a strong connection to Sue that began long before she supported her in her efforts fundraising. The two ladies became friends 18 years ago and bonded on the bleachers watching their kids play baseball, as spending late nights at the field in their roles as team moms. Denise jerked her thumb toward Sue, “This one will yell at

you about staying up with your mammograms.” Sue adds, “Moms always put themselves last, but keeping up with mammograms is important.” Every year, members of the community show up to support Drive Away Cancer and this year you can too. There are many opportunities to support the charity through donations, hole sponsorships, volunteering, and participating as a golfer. This is an outing where everyone has fun! There are great raffles, prizes, games set up at holes and more. Raffle tickets can win you big! How about Ruth Eckerd Hall performances, and tickets to big-name hockey and baseball games, plus restaurants gift certificates, gift baskets and much more! Sue and Cody are diligently gathering goodies. Sue says, “We always have so much great stuff. I want everyone who buys a raffle ticket to win something!” JK Cancer Fund raises funds throughout the year on the website, www.jkcancerfundinc.org, where you also can download forms for both sponsorships and registration. For more information, to register, donate for the raffles, volunteer or inquire about sponsorships, please contact Sue Millian at (727) 862-2100 or (727) 809-1695, sue@millianaire.com or jkcancerfund@gmail.com.

East Lake Fire Rescue Home Safety Tips According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) there is an average of 48,000 electrical fires per year. These fires cause approximately $1.5 billion in property damage and are responsible for 500 deaths and 1,100 injuries each year. Don’t be part of electrical fire statistics! Be aware of the common causes of electrical fires and how you can reduce them. Reduce Electrical Fire Risk at Home: Look around for electrical hazards in your home and correct them. Here are some common hazards: • Electrical cords under rugs, in walking pathways, or pinched behind furniture • Overloaded outlets • Laptops and phones charging on beds or sofas Practice electrical safety. Basic tips to protect your family include: • Unplug items from overloaded outlets: Fires often start when too many items are plugged into a single outlet or circuit overloading them

16

• Use extension cords properly: Especially with appliances which generate heat such as space heaters, irons, and toasters. Extension cords are designed for temporary use; not permanent. • Unplug appliances by grasping the plug: Not doing so may result in damage to the cord which can lead to fire or electric shock. • Use light bulbs with the correct wattage: Using bulbs where the wattage is too high can overload the fixture or wiring. Over time this can cause an electrical fire.

Evaluate Electrical Systems Every 10 Years East Lake Fire District recommends having a licensed electrician review your home every 10 years. Electricians can: • Ensure circuit breakers are working properly • Place ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlets near sinks, bathrooms, and outdoors to prevent

MARCH 2016

electrocution • Install tamper-resistant receptacles that prevent young children from accessing outlets • Evaluate your entire electrical system to ensure it is safe and meets electrical code. Some of our residential structures have older electrical wiring system using aluminum alloy and early wiring methods. Licensed electricians can evaluate these systems

East Lake Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

• Bulbs that wear out too fast • Overheated plugs, cords, or switches • Shock or mild static electricity when touching a switch or outlet • Loose outlets or unusually warm or faulty outlets or switches

and recommend safety upgrades to reduce electrical fire risk. Know the Warning Signs Call 911 immediately if you notice warning signs such as: • Arcs, sparks or short circuits • Sizzling or buzzing sounds • Vague burning odor Immediate attention to these signs can save lives and prevent an electrical fire. Call a licensed professional electrician if you have electrical concerns including: • Frequently blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers • Dim or flickering lights

Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years All smoke alarms have a life span of about 10 years and should be replaced when they reach that point. Look for the date of manufacture to determine the age of your home’s detectors. Hard-wired and interconnected smoke alarms should be replaced by a licensed electrician. Wheelchairs 4 Kids Jail-N-Bail A Fun Way to Help Tampa Bay Area Kids Gain Mobility! By Amy Paterson Wheelchairs 4 Kids, a local 501 (C) 3 organization, is dedicated to improving the lives of children with physical disabilities by providing wheelchairs, home and vehicle modifications as well as assistive and therapeutic equipment at no charge to the families. Many children in the United States faced with living with physical disabilities are in wheelchairs that are too small, in disrepair, or do not fit the needs of the child. Children outgrow their wheelchairs before government or insurance programs will allow for a replacement. Not only is it unsafe for a child to be in a chair that is inadequate for their needs; it can impact their health in numerous ways including scoliosis, respiratory problems and pressure sores. In addition, families are faced with trying to care for their special needs children in homes

that have not been modified to meet their specific circumstances. Wheelchairs 4 Kids is working hard to address this neglected need. We hope that you will take a moment to visit our website at www.wheelchairs4kids.org and become a fan of our Facebook page. You’ll be able to follow what we are up to! You can also see a several

videos of our work on our YouTube channel. Do a Little Time! Wheelchairs 4 Kids is holding its 5th Annual Jail-N-Bail, and we are looking for community leaders to “do a little time” for a GREAT cause for our annual Jail-N-Bail fundraiser! Jail-

N-Bail will be held at Charley’s Steak House on April 29, 2016. “Felons” will be asked to raise $3,000 - $5,000 in bail! It is a great way to help us give these kids the independence they so deserve! Wheelchairs 4 Kids will be “arresting” prominent citizens in the Tampa Bay Area for various charges

East Lake Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

such as insider trading (retired NFL players using connections to get ahead in Fantasy Football), to impersonating an actor (local business owners/lawyers appearing in commercials). The sillier the crime, the better! Of course, your charges and bail are negotiable. You can even split the bail with a co-conspirator! On April 29th, Jail-N-Bail “Inmates” will turn themselves in at Charley’s Steak House (AKA The Big House) where they will be photographed, issued prison garb, handcuffed and held in a holding cell with all of the other “felons.” I understand that the prison guards are notorious for sneaking in food and beverages! Those arrested will be ordered to appear before Judge Julie and Judge Steve Weintraub (owners of Gold & Diamond Source) to answer to charges. Raise bail or be locked up in the Wheelchairs 4 Kids “jail” for one hour, and once bail is met, the guilty will be released with great fanfare. Wheelchairs 4 Kids’ Jail-N-Bail is not only a way to help local children who need wheelchairs and handicap modifications, but it also is fun and

great exposure for your business. “Jailbirds” will receive several copies of their “Wanted” poster, and will have a page on Wheelchairs 4 Kids’ website with a personal wanted poster and charges. Bail can be met on each inmate’s personal webpage, where supporters can make a secure, online donation toward bail in advance. Wheelchairs 4 Kids will design custom e-mail blasts that “inmates” may send to friends and post on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Collect bail in advance – you never know what will happen in the jail. A riot may break out and you don’t want to miss the fun! If you are able, please help Wheelchairs 4 Kids in its effort to help local children in need. If you have questions, suggestions, comments, or would like to find out how you can help, please contact Wheelchairs 4 Kids at 727-946-0963. Experience the Amazing Power of Grace and Faith at Grace and Faith Church in Tampa By Marcy Sanford The members of Grace and Faith Church have seen first-hand examples of God’s miraculous work. Located at 12749 W. Hillsborough Avenue, Grace and Faith Church brings speakers to the Tampa church to tell of their encounters with God and the miracles that he has bestowed upon them. You don’t have to be a member of the church to come to one of their special speaker series, and Pastor Robert Scarallo would like to invite you to come experience the amazing power of grace and faith. Miraculously Healed, March 20, 10:30 a.m. In 1997 Dr. Tom Renfro, a wellrespected physician in Norton, Va., was diagnosed with the rarest form of lymphoma. By the time Tom received his diagnosis he was already in the final stage of the cancer and doctors told him and his family that he would not live and there was not anything they could do to help him. Over the next

22

year, Tom’s cancer started overtaking his body, but his faith in God and the power of prayer never ceased. Months after he was diagnosed, tumors were visible all over his body and blood clots had begun targeting his major organs. Tom turned to the congregation at his church, his patients, and religious groups such as The 700 Club to help him pray. And after 40 days and 40 nights of prayer, a miracle happened. In an attempt to extend Tom’s life so he could spend Christmas with his family, doctors administered one dose of chemotherapy and the tumors began to instantly disappear. “Occasionally, you see things that you don’t have a good explanation for,” says Dr. Woodley, one of Tom’s doctors. “This first round of chemotherapy, we were seeing responses in hours, where these lymph nodes were shrinking. I have never seen a response like this before. It was a rather dramatic experience.” Nineteen years later, Dr. Tom Renfro is still cancer free. He’ll be sharing his miraculous story about the

amazing healing powers of God’s love the morning of March 20 at 10:30 at Grace and Faith Church. “As humans, we are fascinated with stories,” says Pastor Robert. “Our church is filled with people with stories. Everyone has their own crisis but you can be healed.” Being Kidnapped Saved Her Life, April 24, 10:30 a.m. In 2005, Ashley Smith’s life was in shambles. She was addicted to methamphetamines, had given up custody of her daughter to an aunt, and was living by herself in a small apartment when Brian Nichols shot himself out of custody, killing at least one deputy, a court employee, as well as the sitting judge, and an off-duty federal Agent he carjacked, before homeinvading Ashley and taking her hostage. A major news event in Atlanta, this event was also the basis for the motion picture “Captive”, which was produced by Paramount Pictures and recently released to theaters in 2015.

MARCH 2016

Pastor Robert Scarallo Ashley decided that night to stop using drugs forever, “I was forced with the decision of whether or not I was going to use drugs with Brian Nichols that night. Drugs had been a way of life that I had let consume me for many years before that and I had a choice - whether I was going to use

them or not. It was almost as if Jesus took the body of Brian Nichols in that one moment and said, “Do you want to do this or do you want to have a different life?” Throughout the 7 hours that she was held captive, Ashley, who had been desperately trying to get her life back in order, talked to Brian about her life and her daughter and read a passage from the Bible and The Purpose Driven Life to him. Ashley helped Brian consider how God could

use him if he turned himself in and the following morning he did so. On Sunday morning, April 24, at 10:30 Ashley will share the amazing story of how God changed not just one life but two that fateful evening. “Ashley’s story illustrates four spiritual truths that give us hope and encouragement for those difficult times in our lives,” says Pastor and Author Rick Warren. “First, no matter what bad decisions you’ve made, you don’t have to stay stuck in your past.

Your past is past, and it’s never too late to start over. Second, God’s purpose for your life is greater than any problems you’re going through. Third, the Bible really changes people. And finally, the fourth truth is that God has the power to help you over any addiction.” “At Grace and Faith Church we believe that grace will take you from where you are and faith will take you to where you’ve never been,” says Pastor Robert. “God so loved the World means that it doesn’t matter if you’re the richest person on Wall Street or the poorest person in the world, every one needs Jesus and God can touch and fill the empty spots in your life.” Morning Interview on May 29th On May 29th Grace and Faith church will also be hosting a morning interview, followed by a 5 p.m. seminar with Dr. Caroline Leaf, one of the world’s modern pioneers of neuroplasticity, a scientific discovery that counters the former thinking that the human brain cannot rejuvenate itself, but rather responds with new brain neuron regeneration to both positive and negative stimuli that we can significantly control! Dr Leaf authored the book "Switch Your Brain On," and the afternoon seminar is entitled "Detoxing Your Brain." A $20 registration fee is requested for participation at the afternoon seminar, which can be paid at the door. Pastor Robert and his family have

East Lake Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

their own first-hand experience with miracles. He says, “When my granddaughter was born prematurely, we were told she would be dead in the morning because her body was not producing oxygen. For more than 2 hours the machines she was hooked up to could not find any oxygen in her blood at all. She was taken out of her incubator to give us the chance to hold her and say, ‘Goodbye.’ After 14 hours of intense prayer, all of her vitals came up. Today she is a happy, healthy, normal 2 year old. According to her doctors and nurses it was a miracle that she not only lived but did not suffer any brain damage.” The Pastor adds, “We see a lot of miracles in our church. God loves us and He wants to intervene in our lives. When you believe in miracles, you will begin to see them in your everyday life. The bottom line of every story about a miracle is God cares, God hears, and God acts out of love.” Grace and Faith Church is located at 12749 W. Hillsborough Ave. Everyone is invited to attend the special speakers series or their contemporary church service Sundays at 10:30 a.m. Grace and Faith Church also has events and discipleship for people of all ages. There’s Something for Everyone at Bunga Raya Malaysian Restaurant & Sushi Bar! By Julie Kanehl If you’ve never tried Malaysian cuisine before, it’s a culinary adventure that originates from Malaysia’s multiethnic population of people who hail from all parts of Asia, India and Eurasia. What that means for us is that we have the opportunity to try some of the most delicious dishes from that part of the world right here in our back yard. In fact, Bunga Raya is one of the best-kept secrets in our area! Located at 4952 Ridgemoor Blvd in the Ridgemoor Commons shopping center, I’m sure you’ve passed it on your way through the Starbucks drivethrough only to wonder what Bunga Raya meant. Well, it means “Hibiscus Flower.” If you didn’t know that, I bet you also are unaware of just how delicious Malaysian food can be, so come on in for lunch or dinner and you’ll find that there’s something for everyone (even the kids) at Bunga Raya! Owner of Bunga Raya and Sushi Chef Lee Onesty, is too humble to

26

brag, but she has many years of experience as both a chef and as a restaurant manager. In opening her own restaurant, Onesty has created an environment that is bright, clean and inviting, with a menu to match. Onesty says, “I want people to come and experience Malaysian food!” Adding, “Many customers worry that our food will be too spicy, but I want to assure you that it’s not. There’s something for everybody here.” Open for lunch and dinner, there’s something simple and welcoming about Bunga Raya, Perhaps it’s that you’re so warmly greeted by the staff, and often the owner. Perhaps it’s the delicious smells wafting from the kitchen, or perhaps it’s the fact that you’ve just happened upon the somewhat hidden treasure that is Bunga Raya. Starters that Delight! First, there’s a lot to choose from! Regular, Lori Molinari, said, “You’ve got to try the Roti Canai appetizer –

they’re the Indian pancakes. They are delicious, delicious, just like everything else here!” There are a great many starters that wow including the Roti Canai, as well as the Krab Rangoon, the Gyoza (dumplings) and the Shrimp Tempura appetizer. You might also like their crispy Spring Rolls, Scallops, and Chicken Lettuce Wraps, all of which are affordably priced! Mark Somers, said, “Great food, awesome people, fair prices, a weekly destination for me!” Adding, “You can’t go wrong – the owner won’t let it happen.” That’s right; Onesty and her staff are very attentive and helpful when ordering, especially if you’re new to the restaurant. Chances are, once you’ve come a couple of times, you’ll have made friends with both the owner, the

MARCH 2016

Curry Laksa staff, and the other patrons who have come to eat. This seems to be the way at Bunga Raya. It’s simply a friendly, local restaurant that happens to serve food that is out of this world. You might even be completely surprised by what you find, for example, Bunga Raya regular, Joyce Tucker,

East Lake Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

said, “They’ve got the best chicken wings in town!” Bunga Raya Serves, Warm, Rich, Delicious Entrees that Rock the Senses! What kind of Asian food do you like, because chances are that your favorites are on the menu. Bunga Raya offers an amazing array of options, from Malaysian staples like “Curry Laksa” (which is a delicious spicy curry noodle soup) to more traditional American-favorites like Kung Pao Chicken, Teriyaki chicken, Steak, Shrimp or Sea Scallops, Lo Mein, and of course, Sushi. There’s even a kids’ menu that makes it easy to take the kids with you when you want to go to your favorite place, but they still want to eat chicken fingers! (They also have other options as well). Once you start coming to Bunga Raya, you’ll find that everything you taste is full of flavor, with fresh ingredients, just the right amount of sweet to temper the spice, and the flavor to make every meal a joy. Customer, Zarina Dennis, said, “This is a fantastic place to eat! Everyone is super friendly and the Malaysian food is very authentic and delicious!

This is my new favorite place to go!” Come to the Sushi Bar at Bunga Raya! When it comes to sushi, it all comes down to trust. Trust me on this one! When offered the Dragon Roll, I thought I would sample some so as not to ruin all of the wonderful dishes that I’d ordered, but much to my dismay, this gorgeous dragon appeared on my plate-full of color, exploding with taste, and before I knew it, I’d devoured the entire roll all by myself. What’s the popular phrase, “Sorry, not sorry?” It was remarkably fresh, cut into perfectly sized portions, and plated so beautifully that I had to take a picture! While many restaurants add a sushi bar as an afterthought, the sushi at Bunga Raya is compelling enough to be the only draw. The only shame is that once you try the sushi you might

East Lake Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

be too full to enjoy everything else on the menu! My recommendation for this is to come back many more times until you’re sure what your favorites are. Or, better yet, bring your friends and family and try it all. More surprises await when it comes to dessert, as they have a decadent array of cheesecakes to choose from with incredible flavors, including original plain, chocolate, turtle, a dreamy raspberry champagne, and even a hibiscus cheesecake! So creative and delicious, Onesty has them brought in by Holi-Moli Cheesecakes!

Next time you’re up for an affordable meal out with your friends or family, try Bunga Raya right here in East Lake; you’ll be so glad you did! Bunga Raya, located at 4952 Ridgemoor Blvd. in Palm Harbor, is open: Mon. – Fri., 11:30 a.m.– 10 p.m.; Sat. from 12 p.m.–10 p.m.; and 4:30 p.m.–9 p.m. on Sun. For more information, call 727-754-7828, visit online at www.bungarayaflorida.com or find them on Facebook.

Another popular style that’s trending is called “transitional.” Transitional blends modern and traditional styles together to form a look that is classic, clean and welcoming. Rumer says, “I have experience working with contemporary, transi-

tional, traditional, old world and art deco designs.” Adding, “When we go into a space we look at its full potential, making it beautiful and functional as well.” Kristina Kaltsounis calls Rumer, “The best designer in Tampa Bay!” When customers come into Authentic Concepts with an idea, Rumer and his professional staff help to bring all of the different design elements together that make the room come to life. Authentic Concepts measures the space and takes time with their customers to help them find their own unique vision for each space. Always mindful of each client’s budget, Rumer and his staff take a lot of time to make sure that everyone is on the same page during the design process. In fact, before any renovating even begins, clients are shown a design program on the computer that brings their new kitchen to life, just like they do on TV! Client Izadora Jaws said,

“Elegance and sleekness throughout! Your clean and detailed work shows you truly care about your clients, your reputation but most importantly, you love what you do; that’s the difference between the best and the rest!” Authentic Concepts Offers Products that Last a Lifetime There’s nothing so dramatic and functional as the countertops you choose. Today, the options are endless, and the one that’s the hottest right now is something called quartz. From quartz to granite, and from tile to marble, there’s something out there for everyone. The question really is,

which would look best in your home? Rumer says, “Our products will last. The only reason you would ever replace them is because you decided to change the look or concept of your kitchen or bath.” Cabinets also make a dramatic impression and can be a real game-changer in the way that your kitchen or bathroom looks and feels. Authentic Concepts offers high quality brands for your kitchen such as Dura Supreme cabinets and Cambria countertops. The March/April 2016 issue of Consumer Digest named Dura Supreme the “BEST BUY” in premium cabinetry for the second time, stating, “The Designer is a repeat Best Buy selection because of its combination of features. This is the only cabinet that we found that has all-plywood and solid-wood construction, comes with a lifetime warranty and has a plywood back panel that’s one-half of an inch thick, which is at least two times

thicker than what other cabinets have. This model also has more wood species options than do most other cabinets.” Offering plumbing fixtures that are functional and elegant, flooring that will last a lifetime and light fixtures that will complete the space, Authentic Concepts is adept at taking all of these separate elements and putting them together in a way that only an artist and designer like Rumer and his team could. If you’re looking for a way to really make your home unique, why not have customized tile made just for you? Authentic Concepts is one of the exclusive Quemere International dealers, giving you a chance to have handmade tiles hand painted just for your home. Imagine what a conversation starter that would be, to have a hand painted backsplash in your kitchen! Heather Keith said, “I’m in love with my new kitchen. Glenn is the most awesome man to work with, talented and professional!” Right now, Authentic Concepts is offering an amazing incentive for their customers: 12 months, no payments and no interest when used in conjunction with a purchase of any size Cam-
