Wheelchairs 4 Kids Jail-N-Bail – A Fun Way to Help Tampa Bay Area Kids Gain Mobility! By Amy Paterson Wheelchairs 4 Kids, a local 501 (C) 3 organization, is dedicated to improving the lives of children with physical disabilities by providing wheelchairs, home and vehicle modifications as well as assistive and therapeutic equipment at no charge to the families. Many children in the United States faced with living with physical disabilities are in wheelchairs that are too small, in disrepair, or do not fit the needs of the child. Children outgrow their wheelchairs before government or insurance programs will allow for a replacement. Not only is it unsafe for a child to be in a chair that is inadequate for their needs; it can impact their health in numerous ways including scoliosis, respiratory problems and pressure sores. In addition, families are faced with trying to care for their special needs children in homes that have not been modified to meet their specific circumstances. Wheelchairs 4 Kids is working hard to address this neglected need. We hope that you will take a moment to visit our website at www.wheelchairs4kids.org and become

a fan of our Facebook page. You’ll be able to follow what we are up to! You can also see a several videos of our work on our YouTube channel. Do a Little Time! Wheelchairs 4 Kids is holding its 5th Annual Jail-N-Bail, and we are looking for community leaders to “do a little time” for a GREAT cause for our annual Jail-N-Bail fundraiser! JailN-Bail will be held at Charley’s Steak House on April 29, 2016. “Felons” will be asked to raise $3,000 - $5,000 in bail! It is a great way to help us give these kids the independence they so deserve! Wheelchairs 4 Kids will be “arresting” prominent citizens in the Tampa Bay Area for various charges such as insider trading (retired NFL players using connections to get ahead

in Fantasy Football), to impersonating an actor (local business owners/lawyers appearing in commercials). The sillier the crime, the better! Of course, your charges and bail are negotiable. You can even split the bail with a co-conspirator! On April 29th, Jail-N-Bail “Inmates” will turn themselves in at Charley’s Steak House (AKA The Big House) where they will be photographed, issued prison garb, handcuffed and held in a holding cell with all of the other “felons.” I understand that the prison guards are notorious for sneaking in food and beverages! Those arrested will be ordered to appear before Judge Julie and Judge Steve Weintraub (owners of Gold & Diamond Source) to answer to charges. Raise bail or be locked up in the Wheelchairs 4 Kids “jail” for one

hour, and once bail is met, the guilty will be released with great fanfare. Wheelchairs 4 Kids’ Jail-N-Bail is not only a way to help local children who need wheelchairs and handicap modifications, but it also is fun and great exposure for your business. “Jailbirds” will receive several copies of their “Wanted” poster, and will have a page on Wheelchairs 4 Kids’ website with a personal wanted poster and charges. Bail can be met on each inmate’s personal webpage, where supporters can make a secure, online donation toward bail in advance. Wheelchairs 4 Kids will design custom e-mail blasts that “inmates” may send to friends and post on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Collect bail in advance – you never know what will happen in the jail. A riot may break out and you don’t want to miss the fun! If you are able, please help Wheelchairs 4 Kids in its effort to help local children in need. If you have questions, suggestions, comments, or would like to find out how you can help, please contact Wheelchairs 4 Kids at 727-946-0963. Old McMicky’s Farm $30,000 ‘Mission I Do’ Military Dream Wedding Winners Sam and Chris Married in February Brides amputee brother who was saved by the groom acted as best man Over 100 guests gathered at Old McMicky's Farm to witness the wedding of a loving and deserving couple, Samantha Dilberian & Christopher St Onge. Sam and Chris are the winners of the 3rd "Mission I Do" $30k Dream Wedding Giveaway. The Farm received dozens of entries from local deserving military couples and narrowed the entries to 4 worthy couples. In November, voting was opened to the public and over 65,000 votes were received. Samantha Dilberian & Christopher St Onge have a story strait out of a Hollywood movie. In 2010, Samantha’s brother Bryan graduated basic training and was stationed in Fort Drum, NY. He showed Samantha’s picture to Sgt. Christopher St. Onge in an effort to get himself out of doing pushups. It must have

worked because Samantha soon got a friend request on Facebook. Bryan and Chris deployed together to Afghanistan in March 2011. Just a few months later, on July 1, 2011 their squad was hit by an I.E.D. killing SPC Waters, and wounding Samantha’s brother, Bryan. Samantha’s family was told Bryan had lost both legs and left arm and a lot of blood, but was stable. Samantha received message after message filled with support, love prayers, shoulders to lean on, but then a familiar name came through her inbox. It was Chris, checking in on Bryan’s progress. How good it was to see his name. Someone that was there with Bryan, someone who helped save his life. Chris and Samantha often spoke. He checked in on Bryan, she asked how the rest of their deployment was going. Little conversations that brought Samantha the most comfort

she had felt in months. After Bryan healed, he could not wait to get back to his unit in Fort Drum. Samantha made the trip with him, and of course got to spend some time with Chris. Chris and Samantha started dating, but could only see each other on

weekends due to their work schedules and the long distance. It was a 6-hour drive from Brooklyn to Fort Drum, but they made the trip almost every weekend. In December 2012, Chris got recruiting orders to Tampa and asked

Samantha to join him. She had to leave her family and her life, but there was no hesitation. She knew Chris was the one for her, and she knew it was time for them to start our lives together. This past August, on their 3year anniversary, Chris proposed. A few weeks later, Chris received an email announcing a dream wedding giveaway from Old McMicky’s farm in Odessa, FL. It couldn’t have been more perfect timing. Chris is a true hero, a bronze star recipient. There is no one more deserving. “This wedding gift is in appreciation of the service and sacrifice of those who currently serve or have served in our military. It is my firm belief that everyone who serves in our military is helping to keep our families safe, so we thought one way to show our appreciation is to help them to start families of their own.” said Ralph Zuckerman. Tobacco Free Florida has been helping people quit smoking since 2006. But they don’t just help individuals quit; Tobacco Free Florida has a wide variety of resources to help businesses help their employees quit smoking. Their free “Benefits to Quit Worksite Toolkit” guides business owners through the steps to help create a tobacco free workplace. When employers help their employees quit smoking it creates a healthier workplace and also has a positive effect on the business’ profitability. Each employee that becomes tobacco free reduces the health care costs for a business and increases overall productivity. When Employees Use Tobacco, Your Profits Go Up in Smoke: According to Tobacco Free Florida, recent studies of the private-sector in the United States have suggested that em-

ployees who smoke cost businesses, on average, more than $6,000 per year when compared to non-smoking employees. This cost to Florida businesses comes primarily in the form of increased health care costs and productivity losses. On average, health care costs for your employees who smoke are up to 34 percent higher than the cost for those who do not use tobacco. Every employee who smokes can cost your business an extra $2,056 a year in medical expenses. Additionally, under the Affordable Care Act, insurers could be able to charge up to 50 percent higher premiums for tobacco users, which may further impact your bottom line. Tobacco use is also the leading contributor to lost productive work time. Florida businesses lose an average of $4,056 per smoker every year in lost productivity. Workers who

smoke at least one pack of cigarettes a day have 75 percent more lost productive time than nonsmoking workers. Just three 15-minute smoke breaks a day add up to more than a week of lost time in just one year. Employees Will Appreciate Your Support: Most people want to quit smoking, but it is incredibly hard to do so. The average person tries to quit 8 to 11 times before they are successful. Many people feel like smoking is an addiction they cannot get rid of. But with the right help, resources, and support, smokers and tobacco uses can quit successfully. As a business owner you have the chance to help make a positive impact on your employees. Tobacco Free Florida can provide you with successful programs to create a supportive work environment and introduce your employees to proven successful ways to quit. Throughout the program, Tobacco Free Florida

will help you evaluate your employees’ progress and adapt when needed. Pasco County Schools Are Tobacco Free, Your Business Can Be To: One of the largest employers in Pasco County is going tobacco free with help from Tobacco Free Florida. As of July 1, 2016, all Pasco County Schools’ campuses including all owned or leased school buildings, grounds, campuses, housing, and property (including vehicles and buses) will be 100 percent tobacco-free. This change was a collaborative effort between Pasco County Schools, the School Health Advisory Committee, the Tobacco Free Partnership of Pasco County, and Students Working Against Tobacco. The new policy created with the help of Tobacco Free Florida creates a supportive workplace culture for Pasco County School employees and offers them proven tobacco cessation resources to motivate them to succeed in quitting. Local Tobacco Free Florida Representative Georgia Brieck has been working with the school system for the past year, “I have served as a member of Pasco County Schools’ Employee Health and Wellness Committee. The committee has partnered with Tobacco Free Florida and the Florida Department of Health to

offer resources to help employees ease into the process of becoming tobaccofree by July 2016. We know it can take multiple quit attempts before a tobacco user can successfully quit. As a committee we focus on creating a supportive environment and effective communication techniques and proving a range of cessation options and a variety of other strategies to help employees quit tobacco for good.”

This past fall Pasco County Schools was awarded a Worksite Wellness Silver Award from the Florida Tobacco Cessation Alliance for their commitment and dedication to providing programs to help their employees quit tobacco. Chuck is nationally recognized as an outstanding litigator who has served as national trial counsel for Dow Corning and regularly handles high exposure product liability, medical device, medical

malpractice, and construction cases. In 2012 Robert’s long-time friend and fellow Avila neighbor, Rob Grace, joined the firm. Bleakley describes Grace as a “throw-back”. He says, “Rob has over 24 years of experience practicing law and is one of the states’ most respected workers compensation litigators. He is a ‘lawyers lawyer’ – professional, ethical, and one of the hardest working attorneys I know.” Grace leads a team of experienced workers compensation defense attorneys that include partners Dave Lamont and Crystal Corry. In 2015 the firm added north Tampa resident Kristen Allman, who spent the majority of her 28 year legal career as a board certified employment law specialist. Robert noted the firm has represented large companies and smaller businesses in employment disputes for years and adding an attorney with true specialization in the employment law area was something he had desired for many years. In addition, Robert noted the long time contributions of partners R.G. “Mack” McCormick, who has been with the firm since 2001 and who, along with Robert, represents national floor cleaning companies and large malls in premises liability claims and been to trial many times with Robert. “We have fought many battles together and there is no one else I would rather go to trial with than Mack. In a very similar way, our partner Melissa Krepps has been through numerous trials with Chuck Bavol. She is the guru of federal court procedure and has successfully argued at the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.” Robert says, “not all of your readers are a general counsel or risk manager of a large company seeking representation in commercial or tort cases. But everyone in your audience will probably need a lawyer at some point in their lives.” In 2006 Bleakley added Christina Hebert as a partner in order to provide legal services to local businesses and individuals in areas other than just litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Christina gained experience working in a small Tampa firm where she was a partner and handled corporate work and business transactions, guardianship and probate matters as well as drafted wills and formulated estate plans. After eight years practicing law in some of Tampa’s most respected downtown law firms, Bleakley opened the firm as a solo practice in April 2000. Originally located in the Bank of America Building in downtown Tampa, the firm’s early practice focused on defending trucking companies and larger business in auto, premises and workers compensation claims. However, almost from its inception, the firm began a 15 year trend of organic growth adding clients, new lines of business, and experienced attorneys. Today the firm employs 13 attorneys with further growth still planned. In 2008 the firm re-located from downtown to its current location near the corner of Florida and Bearss Avenue.

Erin Stoy, Marketing Director and Vinyl Buyer, said that Sound Exchange purchases all of its used items from the public. Staff stays busy purchasing items every day - from a seller who brings in a handful of CDs to trade towards new items, to a collector ready to part with his complete music collection. “Customers have the option to take cash or store credit,” said Erin. “The store credit option is a 10% bonus over the cash offer. Many customers have been selling to use for years because they know when they come here, they will get a fair price.” Sound Exchange uses sales history data, current market conditions, and decades of experience to identify the appropriate offer for an item.

They regularly purchase items from individuals liquidating the estate of a family member who has passed away. Music and stereo equipment that might normally be discarded can find a new, appreciative audience. Sound Exchange regularly seeks vintage hi-fi. “We buy turntables from most eras – anywhere from the late 1960s to recently manufactured turntables of good quality,” she said. They also purchase reel-to-reel players, amplifiers, receivers, and stereo speakers, especially from the “golden era” of the 1970s. And if you have stereo

equipment that you’d like to use but is not working properly, Sound Exchange can even repair it for you. Each location boasts its own personality. “All three stores have a slightly different flavor and clientele,” said Stoy. “There’s commonality, of course, but because we buy so many

used items over the counter, the selection in each store is different based on what people bring us.” She reports that many customers shop at all three stores, because there is different inventory in each one. The Sound Exchange inventory is searchable in real-time on the com-

Having three locations enables us to buy a lot of good quality used product from the public.” pany’s web site. We help men and women struggling with: • Fatigue • Weight Gain • Decreased Libido

• Hot Flashes • Sleep Issues • Thyroid As a woman, she’s been there before. As a medical doctor, she’s determined to find a better way to help her patients feel like themselves again. Through hormone pellet therapy and medical weight loss, Dr. deVryer and her team have succeeded in helping hundreds of men and women combat the effects of aging. “The pellets are 100% bioidentical

(natural), it’s a virtually painless process in which pellets are inserted beneath the skin, to be absorbed naturally over time. Patients are able to go four to six months between treatments. The results are fascinating, I love to see patients within a few weeks come back and tell me they can’t believe they forgot what good felt like,” says Dr. deVryer.
