Wheelchairs 4 Kids Jail-N-Bail – A Fun Way to Help Tampa Bay Area Kids Gain Mobility! By Amy Paterson Wheelchairs 4 Kids, a local 501 (C) 3 organization, is dedicated to improving the lives of children with physical disabilities by providing wheelchairs, home and vehicle modifications as well as assistive and therapeutic equipment at no charge to the families. Many children in the United States faced with living with physical disabilities are in wheelchairs that are too small, in disrepair, or do not fit the needs of the child. Children outgrow their wheelchairs before government or insurance programs will allow for a replacement. Not only is it unsafe for a child to be in a chair that is inadequate for their needs; it can impact their health in numerous ways including scoliosis, respiratory problems and pressure sores. In addition, families are faced with trying to care for their special needs children in homes that have not been modified to meet their specific circumstances. Wheelchairs 4 Kids is working hard to address this neglected need. We hope that you will take a moment to visit our website at www.wheelchairs4kids.org and become

a fan of our Facebook page. You’ll be able to follow what we are up to! You can also see a several videos of our work on our YouTube channel. Do a Little Time! Wheelchairs 4 Kids is holding its 5th Annual Jail-N-Bail, and we are looking for community leaders to “do a little time” for a GREAT cause for our annual Jail-N-Bail fundraiser! JailN-Bail will be held at Charley’s Steak House on April 29, 2016. “Felons” will be asked to raise $3,000 - $5,000 in bail! It is a great way to help us give these kids the independence they so deserve! Wheelchairs 4 Kids will be “arresting” prominent citizens in the Tampa Bay Area for various charges such as insider trading (retired NFL players using connections to get ahead

in Fantasy Football), to impersonating an actor (local business owners/lawyers appearing in commercials). The sillier the crime, the better! Of course, your charges and bail are negotiable. You can even split the bail with a co-conspirator! On April 29th, Jail-N-Bail “Inmates” will turn themselves in at Charley’s Steak House (AKA The Big House) where they will be photographed, issued prison garb, handcuffed and held in a holding cell with all of the other “felons.” I understand that the prison guards are notorious for sneaking in food and beverages! Those arrested will be ordered to appear before Judge Julie and Judge Steve Weintraub (owners of Gold & Diamond Source) to answer to charges. Raise bail or be locked up in the Wheelchairs 4 Kids “jail” for one

hour, and once bail is met, the guilty will be released with great fanfare. Wheelchairs 4 Kids’ Jail-N-Bail is not only a way to help local children who need wheelchairs and handicap modifications, but it also is fun and great exposure for your business. “Jailbirds” will receive several copies of their “Wanted” poster, and will have a page on Wheelchairs 4 Kids’ website with a personal wanted poster and charges. Bail can be met on each inmate’s personal webpage, where supporters can make a secure, online donation toward bail in advance. Wheelchairs 4 Kids will design custom e-mail blasts that “inmates” may send to friends and post on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Collect bail in advance – you never know what will happen in the jail. A riot may break out and you don’t want to miss the fun! If you are able, please help Wheelchairs 4 Kids in its effort to help local children in need. If you have questions, suggestions, comments, or would like to find out how you can help, please contact Wheelchairs 4 Kids at 727-946-0963. Wheelchairs 4 Kids, 501 (C) 3 organization, is located at 1976 S. Pinellas Avenue, Tarpon Springs, FL 34689. Log on to wheelchairs4kids.org for more info.

Old McMicky’s Farm $30,000 ‘Mission I Do’ Military Dream Wedding Winners Sam and Chris Married in February Brides amputee brother who was saved by the groom acted as best man Submitted Over 100 guests gathered at Old McMicky's Farm to witness the wedding of a loving and deserving couple, Samantha Dilberian & Christopher St Onge. Sam and Chris are the winners of the 3rd "Mission I Do" $30k Dream Wedding Giveaway. The Farm received dozens of entries from local deserving military couples and narrowed the entries to 4 worthy couples. In November, voting was opened to the public and over 65,000 votes were received. Samantha Dilberian & Christopher St Onge have a story strait out of a Hollywood movie. In 2010, Samantha’s brother Bryan graduated basic training and was stationed in Fort Drum, NY. He showed Samantha’s picture to Sgt. Christopher St. Onge in an effort to get himself out of doing pushups. It must have

worked because Samantha soon got a friend request on Facebook. Bryan and Chris deployed together to Afghanistan in March 2011. Just a few months later, on July 1, 2011 their squad was hit by an I.E.D. killing SPC Waters, and wounding Samantha’s brother, Bryan. Samantha’s family was told Bryan had lost both legs and left arm and a lot of blood, but was stable. Samantha received message after message filled with support, love prayers, shoulders to lean on, but then a familiar name came through her inbox. It was Chris, checking in on Bryan’s progress. How good it was to see his name. Someone that was there with Bryan, someone who helped save his life. Chris and Samantha often spoke. He checked in on Bryan, she asked how the rest of their deployment was going. Little conversations that brought Samantha the most comfort

she had felt in months. After Bryan healed, he could not wait to get back to his unit in Fort Drum. Samantha made the trip with him, and of course got to spend some time with Chris.

Chris and Samantha started dating, but could only see each other on weekends due to their work schedules and the long distance. It was a 6-hour drive from Brooklyn to Fort Drum,

but they made the trip almost every weekend. In December 2012, Chris got recruiting orders to Tampa and asked Samantha to join him. She had to leave her family and her life, but there was no hesitation. She knew Chris was the one for her, and she knew it was time for them to start our lives together. This past August, on their 3year anniversary, Chris proposed. A few weeks later, Chris received an e-

mail announcing a dream wedding giveaway from Old McMicky’s farm in Odessa, FL. It couldn’t have been more perfect timing. Chris is a true hero, a bronze star recipient. There is no one more deserving. “This wedding gift is in appreciation of the service and sacrifice of those who currently serve or have served in our military. It is my firm belief that everyone who serves in our military is helping to keep our families safe, so we thought one way to show our appreciation is to help them to start families of their own.” said Ralph Zuckerman. Old McMicky’s Farm is thankful for the generosity of all of our vendor partners and media partners who help make ‘Mission I Do’ a reality. For a fill list of all partners - go to https://www.oldmcmickys.com/com munity-giving/mission-i-do/. The Farm also thanks Brigadier General Gary Brown, USMC retired and Vincent Jackson of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for making the PSA video announcing “Mission I Do’, and a special thanks to Blue Skies Events for donating wedding coordination at the Farm for all four couples. The Hyde Park Center for Aesthetic Dentistry For a Lifetime of Beautiful Smiles By Alexis Selby A perfect embodiment of South Tampa charm, as you walk through the front doors of The Hyde Park Center for Aesthetic Dentistry, you could easily be walking into the living room of your own home. And that is exactly how they want you to feel. Located within an elegantly-styled historic Hyde Park house, this dental practice provides a welcoming, homey atmosphere where patients can feel relaxed and at ease. With over 23 years of experience, Christine Grant, D.M.D., P.A., opened her own practice in 1999 and has been at the same location, 1407 W Swann Ave., ever since. Located just a block from Hyde Park’s upscale shops and restaurants, her office is in such a central location that it is within walking distance for many of her patients. A native Floridian, Dr. Grant grew up in Sarasota, where she showed an early interest in the arts and sciences, studying classical piano and taking classes at the Ringling Museum of Art. After completing a Bachelors in biology from Emory University, Dr. Grant went on to earn her doctorate in dental medicine from the University of Florida. She then furthered her training by getting her Certificate in Advanced Aesthetic General Dentistry from Baylor College of Dentistry in Texas. “I have known that I wanted to be a dentist since I was a little girl,” says Dr. Grant. “Several of my parent’s friends were dentists; they were mentors to me. I have always done very well in arts and sciences in school, and took art lessons at the Ringling Museum of Arts in Sarasota. My background in arts and sciences, combined with my manual dexterity, stemming from my training as a classical pianist, is the perfect combination. I still have my 3rd grade yearbook and in it I said I wanted to be a dentist when I grow up. I have never deviated. I love what I do and am very passionate about what I do.” Dr. Grant is joined at her practice by dental hygienist Corrie, dental assistant Margo, and office coordinator Valerie. “My staff is well trained, well educated and well skilled,” says Dr. Grant. “They have a hard work ethic

and are very personable with patients. They really go the extra mile to make patients feel wonderful. They greet them by their first name and take the time to really get to know them.” Function and aesthetics are two words that are used a lot at The Hyde Park Center for Aesthetic Dentistry. It is Dr. Grant’s goal to not only help you maintain a healthy set of teeth, but to also provide you with an attractive, aesthetically pleasing smile that radiates confidence and beauty. It really is incredible how having a healthy, beautiful smile can affect one’s confidence, and the difference it can really make in one’s life. “By restoring my patients’ mouths and giving them a beautiful smile I am able to help them to feel better not just physically, but emotionally as well.” Combining aesthetic and general dentistry to provide a holistic and comprehensive approach for patients of all ages, Dr. Grant’s care includes general dentistry procedures; porcelain veneers, crowns and implant restorations; Zoom! laser whitening treatment; Invisalign orthodontics; treatment for diseases of the gums; Velscope technology (oral cancer screening system); dental care for children; surgical procedures, such as extractions; partials and dentures; digital intra-oral photography; and nitrous oxide sedation and valium sedation. Dr. Grant is also certified in Botox Cosmetic and Juvederm Gel, which aids in removing wrinkles and folds to help enhance your smile. Patient Chris writes,” Multiple dental professionals have attempted but none have come close to satisfying my long time wish for a radiant smile. That is, until I was recommended by a colleague to visit Dr. Christine Grant at The Hyde Park Center for Aesthetic Dentistry. Class, comfort, and professionalism are just some of the countless positives that come immediately to mind in describing Dr. Grant’s exceptional staff. Dr. Grant exhibits mastery on a variety of the latest dental techniques and procedures and utilizes only the finest products in her practice. She is a proven artist, whose keen attention to detail and imagination is the force behind the transformation from troubled spots to masterpiece.

Effectively, if your smile is not perfect, neither Dr. Grant nor her attentive dental staff will allow you to leave the dental chair until it is. Specifically, I recently had 16 porcelain crowns put in spanning over a month. Not only do I continuously receive compliments on my finished product from those I come across, but I even received compliments on my smile during the period of having just my temporaries in; a testament of Dr. Grant’s brilliant work. The Hyde Park Center for Aesthetic Dentistry is not only a practice that places patient’s satisfaction as its top priority, but it’s also a family-based environment that makes patient’s wishes come true.” With her additional training in advanced cosmetic dentistry, and a specialized focus on mouth reconstruction, Dr. Grant is highly educated in the various facets of dentistry; from general check-ups to complete dental reconstruction, no job is too big or too small for the experienced hands of Dr. Grant. Completely unique to their practice, patients have the option of looking through a “smile catalogue” to find the smile that best suits their personality and perfectly blends with the shape of their face, whether that be masculine smile - dominant, vigorous and focused, or a feminine smile - soft, natural and youthful. You can even choose to have a “Hollywood” smile! In addition, Dr. Grant has her own lab ceramist, who, using advanced custom shading techniques, can perfectly match the color of your new teeth to the shade you most desire, giving you teeth that look natural and beautiful - like a true work of art! “Our goal is to give our patients ideal functionality and aesthetic appeal,” says Dr. Grant. “Both my husband and I are new patients of Dr. Grants,” writes one patient. “Since becoming patients just a little less than 2 months ago, my entire life has changed. I’ve never been happy with my smile. Dr. Grant and her wonderful

staff helped me change my life. I now have a complete new smile and a new outlook on life and I owe it to all of them. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Dr. Grant’s abilities as not only a dentist, but also an artist. The staff she has is amazing. Her assistants are wonderful. I’d like to thank Dr. Grant publicly once again for giving me a new lease on life.” At The Hyde Park Center for Aesthetic Dentistry they understand you have different options for dentists in the area, but what really sets their practice apart is the individualized attention and quality customer service that you will receive here at their office. You are more than just a patient, you are part of the family – and that is exactly how you will be treated, whether you are new to their practice or have been a patient for many years. Dr. Grant says, “This is a boutique style practice; we only see one patient at a time because I like to give each patient my undivided attention. We don’t ever want our patients to feel rushed, so even for basic dental check-ups, where most dentists will schedule their patients for only 30 minutes, we always schedule ours for an hour. We want them to feel special. We treat our patients like family. We are well known in the area; we have been here the longest. We are your neighborhood dentist.” The Hyde Park Center for Aesthetic Dentistry is located at 1407 West Swann Avenue in Tampa. They accept all major insurances. Office hours are Mon. Thurs. 7:30 a.m. - 5 :30 p.m. For additional information or to set an appointment please call (813) 2511548 or visit www.ChristineGrantDMD.com.

Sound Exchange Is the Place to Go to Sell CDs, Records, and More

By Deborah Bostock-Kelley With locations in Tampa, Brandon, and Pinellas Park, Sound Exchange is easily accessible to those in the South Tampa community. The stores are home to tens of thousands of CDs, vinyl records, and movies. Whether you’re searching for a heavy metal album or a classic film on BluRay, you’re likely to find it here. And it’s not only music and movies on the shelves: you’ll find

10

a selection of freshly serviced turntables, reel-to-reel tape decks, and other vintage stereo equipment. Comics, music and pop culture books, and collectible figures round out the inventory. This place is an entertainment lover’s dream. Erin Stoy, Marketing Director and Vinyl Buyer, said that Sound Exchange purchases all of its used items from the public. Staff stays busy purchasing items every day from a seller who brings in a

handful of CDs to trade towards new items, to a collector ready to part with his complete music collection. “Customers have the option to take cash or store credit,” said Erin. “The store credit option is a 10% bonus over the cash offer. Many customers have been selling to use for years because they know when they come here, they will get a fair price.” Sound Exchange uses sales history data, current market conditions, and

decades of experience to identify the appropriate offer for an item. They regularly purchase items from individuals liquidating the estate of a family member who has passed away. Music and stereo equipment that might normally be discarded can find a new, appreciative audience. Sound Exchange regularly seeks vintage hi-fi. “We buy turntables from most eras – anywhere from the late 1960s to recently manufactured turntables of

good quality,” she said. They also purchase reel-to-reel players, amplifiers, receivers, and stereo speakers, especially from the “golden era” of the 1970s. And if you have stereo equipment that you’d like to use but is not working properly, Sound Exchange can even repair it for you. Each location boasts its own personality. “All three stores have a slightly different flavor and clientele,” said Stoy. “There’s commonality, of course, but be-

cause we buy so many used items over the counter, the selection in each store is different based on what people bring us.” She reports that many customers shop at all three stores, because there is different inventory in each one. The Sound Exchange inventory is searchable in real-time on the company’s web site. New and used CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays, stereo equipment, and new vinyl records are all listed there. If a customer wants an item available

at a location not convenient for him, he can make an online reservation and have it delivered to his closest Sound Exchange. Customers can also visit Facebook to see new arrivals in all Sound Exchange stores. “Our Facebook page always has daily photos of new and interesting items,” said Stoy. “We are not a niche-market kind of store. We carry all kinds of music and movies, whatever we believe will interest our varied customers. Having three locations enables us to buy a lot of good quality used product from the public.” Sound Exchange in Tampa is located at 14246 N. Nebraska Ave. and can be reached
