Our Partnership with the Tampa Bay Rays = FREE TICKETS FOR YOU!… AGAIN! By Matt Selby April has been a very exciting time of the year for my family and me; not only because our hometown team the Tampa Bay Rays kick off their season, but also because for the second year in a row the Rays have reached out to our company for a “visibility campaign” partnership. Last year, amongst our five magazines, we had a direct mail circulation of over 85,000 households in the Bay area and when the Rays found out we added New Tampa to our distribution, bringing our monthly total to over 110,000 and making us the largest circulation of community magazines in the state of Florida, they were excited to work out another deal with us. Our

online readership has blown up in the past year as well, consistently ranging between 40 and 50,000 individual readers and well over half a million page views! Enough about why the Rays partnered with us, let’s get into what you really care about, and that’s how you can score some FREE Rays game tickets!

FREE TICKETS FOR YOU! Part of our deal with the Rays includes six press level season tickets – one season ticket for each of our six magazines. Even though we have a bunch of family and friends in this area we’ve decided to give away many of our prime press level tickets to our valued readers to show how much we

appreciate you. Each month, starting in May and ending in September, we will give away multiple press level (sec.204) Rays’ tickets to six lucky winners a month. Two Grand Prize winners per month will receive six tickets and two parking passes. Two 1st Runner Up winners will get four tickets and one parking pass, and two more 2nd Runner Up winners will have fun at the ball park with two tickets and a parking pass. This contest will be a lot of fun and we are really happy to give back to our readers. You make what we do possible, plain and simple. We wish we could make every entry a winner. Good luck! The Fresh Market at Wiregrass Offers Fun and Goods for Everyone! By Kim Thomas The Fresh Market that comes to Wiregrass Mall every first and third Saturday is a great way to spend your morning! I recently visited and can’t wait to go back, but I have a few tips. Take some kind of tote bag, or even better a rolling cooler! I found so many great items at the Fresh Market that I found myself envious of the young moms with strollers where they could stash their goods under the baby. Next time, I’m leaving the notepad and camera at home, and I’m stocking up on the goods! The beautiful weather, fresh air and fun shopping are reason enough to go to the Fresh Market at Wiregrass Mall, but you’ll also love meeting the hundreds of vendors. There are so many offerings and I truly enjoyed getting to meet so many different people with their own stories to tell. From farmers who are carrying on a family legacy and entrepreneurs who are marketing new products on the weekends while they work their other jobs during the weekdays, to artists, bakers and pet-lovers, you’ll meet wonderful people. There is stand after stand of beautiful locally grown vegetables and fruits. They will give you plastic bags if you don’t have a tote, but if you’re like me, you’ll want to buy more than you‘ll want to carry. I couldn’t resist

10

the heirloom veggies offered from Small Town Farms – beautiful black and chocolate red bell peppers, rainbow carrots, gorgeous vine-ripened Pita Boy tomatoes, and white zucchini – that were to make up a few fabulous meals at the Thomas house! I passed by the Live Oak Organics stand and bought the last bag of baby spinach, plus some turnips and one of my favorite snacks, sugar snap peas, which were so tender, juicy and sweet – the best I’ve ever tasted! The freshpicked strawberries were abundant, with more than one place to get them, but I picked mine up at the Parke Family Hydro Farms’ stand – they were delicious in my homemade strawberry lemonade! It smells so good at the Fresh Market, you will want to bring your appetite because there are fantastic offerings from chocolates to artisan

sausages on fresh rolls at The Sausage Factory. Nothing hits the spot on a hot day better than a handcrafted popsicle at Whatever Pops (mine was Earl Grey Tea, Lavender and Lemon – so refreshing!), and the pulled pork sandwiches at The Hogfather BBQ stand looked delicious and worth a trip back. For one dollar only, my taste buds took a trip to Paris with a decadent chocolate truffle made by Richard at Cow Paddy Irish Fudge. Richard says he has customers who say they truly haven’t tasted better, not even in Paris. My family has become spoiled by my love of handmade soaps and I was happy to find a great source at the Swanson Soapworks stand. If you like pickles, you’ve got to stop by the Chill Dill booth for some

of their perfectly crispy dills. My favorite was the spicy pickled carrots! Pet-lovers will love the Fresh Market’s pet-friendly atmosphere – friendly, leashed dogs are welcome – and there are great products for healthy pets. Watch out though, the Doggone Good Goodies are so healthy and doggone good that they turn mild-mannered dogs into cookies monsters! There is so much more, from homemade whoopie pies, fresh baked goods, free range eggs and roasting chickens, seafood, even plants, orchids and cut flowers. There truly is too much to name, so just hop in your car on the first and/or third Saturday of the month and check it out. Bring the whole family. Little ones can ride on the train and teens can hit the stores. It’s what I call a win-win!

Discovery Point. My older son is in VPK and his teacher is the best. My son turned five in December and he can already read and write. You can tell that his teachers love and care for him and I have no problem leaving him there when I go to work. He loves school and actually wakes up on Saturdays asking if he can go. He can already pass most kindergarten tests and it’s all because of his excellent teachers at Discovery Point. Mrs. Jolene really takes the time to listen

to parents’ concerns and then addresses those concerns. Call 1-800-GOT-JUNK? The Simple Way to De-Clutter! By Katie Thomas Spring-cleaning time is here and there is no easier way to clean up your space than to call 1-800-GOT-JUNK? for help with removal of unwanted, unnecessary, dust-collecting stuff! If you have junk in Hillsborough, Pinellas or Pasco Counties, it’s time to take a load off and 1-800-GOTJUNK? is the company to call to have it hauled away. Troy and Rachelle White, owners of the Tampa Bay Area 1-800-GOT JUNK? franchise, will partner with you to remove items from your work, home, retail location or construction site. Troy says, “Our friendly professional haulers will handle almost any kind of junk as long as it is non-hazardous. We pick up single items or can handle multiple truckloads of junk for commercial and residential clients. Our friendly, uniformed drivers will do all the lifting for you, clean up and haul your junk away. More than 60 percent of what we haul away is recycled or reused and our haulers will do

the sorting for you to determine if something should go to the dump, local charities or recycle centers. We have even taken small boats, engine blocks, sheds and docks. We can take away almost any material we can fit in our trucks, without you ever lifting a finger. We’ll remove junk from wherever it’s located and we won’t leave a dent or speck of dirt behind!” Clutter-Free is a Good Thing! I recently began the process of moving and it’s astounding how much junk a single gal with no kids can have! I can’t imagine the hassle it would be with a growing family! We are constantly reminded – on the Internet, the TV, and even the magazines lining shelves in the checkout line – that it is beneficial to minimize clutter and organize our lives, to have open, airy spaces. Well, this is easier said than done, especially without a truck! The answer is 1-800-GOTJUNK? The company has the truck (or trucks if you really have a lot of junk!) and considers no job too big or

too small. If you are looking to downsize your junk to make more room for yourself and your family, this business is ready to help you recycle, donate, and clean out your junk! 1-800GOT-JUNK? makes the process of attaining a clutter-free home easier! Most of the time, when it comes to excess stuff, we hold on to it “just in case.” If you aren’t sure about an item, ask yourself a few questions. Have I used this in the last six months? (Or, for some of us, in the last six years?)

Am I keeping this out of obligation or expectation? Do I have more than one of these? Am I holding onto a broken item to fix one day? Is this item worth the time I spend cleaning it? Is this item worth the space it is taking up, and can I use this space for something better? If you want the simplicity of unburdening your life from unnecessary stuff, 1-800-GOT-JUNK? literally lightens your load! One of the coolest things about 1-800-GOT-JUNK? is that the com-

“Taso” Continued from page 1 from Long Island, where only the best-of-the-best dined at the time. That restaurant, L’epicure, is where Taso took his first steps, being born into the kitchen and learned from some of the best French chefs in the country. Today, Taso takes his knowledge of the craft, his impeccable timing, the best quality ingredients and freshest foods (many of which are from local farms and fisherman), and combines that with some of his own family’s recipes! And, wham, you’ve got “All the Best,” which just happens to be the catch phrase on the menu! Let me rephrase that, and explain: There are four menus, an Early Bird, a Dinner menu, a Catering menu, and a separate and altogether equal Pizza menu that includes Stromboli and Calzones! Each of the menus are jam-packed with tasty dishes that make it hard to choose, which is why so many people come back on such a regular basis. Michael, who works at nearby Leo’s Barber Shop, comes in all the time. He says, “My favorite is the

Chicken Francese and the Spinach & Artichoke Rangoon!” But, ask around, and you’ll find that everyone has a different “favorite,” from the Grandma Pie to the Rack of Lamb. “All the Best” from the Land, the Sea & the Sky! Taso humbly explains that his success is only because of the passionate and caring staff behind him, which consists of his better half Sabrina, kitchen manager Keith Komarek, sous chef Jim Ketzner, pizza chef “Patrick-The-Pizza-Guy,” front of the house manager Jen and all of their great servers. Taso has created a restaurant experience that has people just raving about the place. Add the full liquor bar and the live music on Friday and Saturday nights, and this place is really cooking. Kathy and Paul Bullara of Land O’Lakes proudly call themselves regulars. Kathy said, “We love how Taso always comes around and announces, ‘We’ve got the best food from the land, the sea and the sky!’ That’s because he had quail on the menu today!” She added, “You’ve got to try the Fish in Filo, it’s my favorite! One time I came and they were out of it, so now I call ahead to make sure they

save me some!” The Fish in Filo is Taso’s father’s creation, and one that really goes fast. Similar to a Greek Spanakopita, but with fresh fish from the Gulf, the dish is heavenly. Paul said, “The food is phenomenal. We love the service and the attention, and Taso comes out to talk to you! It’s great!” He adds, “Oh and you’ve gotta get the white pizza!” Kathy also said, “We have brought at least ten couples to this restaurant because we like it so much, and on top of that we have Taso cater our Christmas Eve dinner for my husband’s Italian family!” You can’t quite get a better recommendation Owner Taso Stassi serves “ALL THE BEST” from than that! hand-carved steaks to fresh caught seafood - you’ll When you have a love eating at Taso Italiano in New Port Richey! calling to be a restaurant owner, like Taso does, that in mind, Taso spends a lot of time it’s not surprising that every little detail is important! your event with a private tasting. Also, if you’re looking to host an event in your home, but want to leave the cooking to Taso, you can!
