From The Editor Matt Selby

Happy Halloween South Tampa! Halloween is one of those holiday’s that doesn’t hold much significance as far as what it stands for these days. Originally a contraction of All Hallows Eve celebrated by a number of countries to remember their deceased love ones, this day includes a theme of fun and humor to confront the power of death. I understand that some people out there may still believe it’s a pagan tradition, but what Halloween is really about in 2015 America is getting the chance to be someone or something you’re not for the night. Little girls tend to gravitate towards princesses or witches, and little boys always seem to be superheroes or monsters. My wife and I don’t have kids yet (although with each passing year it’s tougher to hold her off) but for at least the past 6 years we’ve joined my young cousins trick or treating. We love walking around with them, watching their little

faces light up with excitement after they score a handful of candy from each house….well almost each house, there’s always at least one home in every neighborhood that only allows one piece of candy per kid and when I say candy I mean that Werthers hard candy that no kid likes anyway. You know what I’m talking about, that stuff grandma used to keep on the coffee table that you tried once and never ate again! The neighborhood haunted houses are also a lot of fun and almost every South Tampa neighborhood has at least one guy on the block that has decided to dedicate the entire month of October to transforming his home garage into the perfect scare zone! Many families will drive into our neighborhoods from outside areas just to experience these fun little haunted houses. Once a good one is found, it’s not long before a bunch of new

faces start to pour in. Halloween may just be a silly excuse to play dress up and get a bunch of free candy but what’s wrong with that? It makes for excellent family time, pictures that will be remembered and cherished forever and it helps keep

dentists in business due to the high spike in cavities afterwards. Just kidding, but seriously, make sure your kids brush their teeth! Stay safe out there and enjoy yourselves! Happy Halloween from everyone here at the Neighborhood News & Lifestyles!

Great Food. Great Vibe. Great Conversation.

By Alexis Selby Tampa’s trendiest new hot spot, The Hyde Out brings an entirely unique concept to the South Tampa area. With it’s intoxicating feel-good vibe and laid-back lounge atmosphere, The Hyde Out bridges the gap between the Soho crowd, the Westshore business district, Ybor, Seminole Heights and other surrounding areas, providing a hub where all diversities can come together. The true concept of The Hyde Out lies in the name itself. Called The Hyde Out for a reason, the “Hyde” in the name refers to the famous character Mr. Hyde in the well-known book The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. If you are unfamiliar, it involves the main character having dual personalities, one good (Dr. Jekyll) and one more sinister (Mr. Hyde). This is exactly the experience that they would like to provide to guests. “We all tend to have two personalities,” says Managing Partner Kip

Byrne. “This is where our concept comes in. It starts off with lunch and happy hour, and as the day goes on you start sipping your drink; the lights go down, the DJ turns the music up and live music fills the air and we transition into a late night lounge-feel.” So whether you choose to come for lunch as Dr. Jekyll, or release your inner Mr. Hyde from happy hour into late night, The Hyde Out provides the perfect opportunity for both! Integrating art and architecture, The Hyde Out reverts back to the way things used to be – when people had pride and integrity in regards to quality and craftsmanship. From the furniture to the décor to the lighting and fixtures, every single detail was handcrafted and custom-designed by local artists and collaborators Kip Byrne, Jay Giroux, Joshua Pearson and Robert Ibarra. “We are a craft parlor,” says Kip. “It is our goal to create a fresh experience for you every time you return, whether it is a different day of the

week, a different menu item you are trying, or a different time of the day. It’s everything coming together that creates that feel-good vibe; the lighting, the sound, the art, the quality customer service. We wanted to break away from the norm and offer a completely different experience to our guests. It’s all about the vibe.” “I really enjoy the creativity that surrounds me,” says Marketing and Operations Manager Courtney Root. “Everybody here, whether it is the chef, the bartenders, the servers, or the managers, brings their own unique qualities. It is all so inspiring.” A fusion of American, Asian, Latin and French cuisine, the food selection at The Hyde Out is as unique as the concept itself. Crafted with the freshest ingredients and attention to quality, every aspect of their menu is specifically tailored to deliver an unforgettable experience. From their fabulous full-sushi bar, serving up hand-rolled delicacies, to chef David Michael creating one-of-a-kind American Fusion masterpieces, The Hyde Out has a variety and selection that is sure to impress even the pickiest of eaters. Lunch is a huge hit at The Hyde out, attracting clientele and business professionals from all over Tampa Bay, who come to enjoy a quiet workspace, with plenty of outlets throughout the restaurant, and free WiFi. From healthy fresh mixes, such as their Spring Love – featuring salmon, shaved asparagus, squash, quinoa, grapes, edamame, and pecorino, tossed in a lemon vinaigrette – and their Thai Beef, made with Jasmin brown rice, baby kale, banh mi mix, and Vietnamese sirloin in a kaffir lime vinaigrette, to mouth watering sand-

wiches and burgers, such as their Platt Street Angus Burger – ground angus, house-smoked bacon, white American cheese, and Vidalia onion jam served on a fresh brioche bun – their menu has a bit of everything. Other healthy options include their Sirloin Plate, served with cauliflower mash, grilled baby bok choy, tied in with a yogurt drizzle, and their Shrimp plate, featuring succulent shrimp accompanied by Jasmin brown rice, broccolini, and a grapefruit tarragon poppy seed emulsion. Hyde’s Philly Cheese Steak is another customer favorite, showcasing shaved rib-eye, aged provolone, white American cheese, grilled onions and mushrooms on their fresh-baked hoagie. Gazing over their dinner menu, the options are just as plentiful, featuring many of the same items on their lunch menu, but with the addition of a melting pot of American Fusion entrees; like their Choice Filet – pan seared with cauliflower mash, asparagus and red wine reduction; or their Shrimp and Grits – Creole-style sauté of jumbo shrimp, asparagus, stone ground cheese grits, chorizo and herbs. Served open to close, the sushi is another portion of the menu that you certainly don’t want to overlook, with tantalizing options such as their Night Owl roll, made with spicy tuna, cucumber and avocado topped with sweet shrimp, lemon, yuzu and tobiko, wrapped in yellow soy paper. Other customer favorites include the Full Moon, with baked salmon, cream cheese, krab, and fresh scallops, topped with red and black tobiko. Serving brunch Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. you

Synergy Equipment – Your Uptime. Our Pastime. By Alexis Selby From 2,000-pound small-walk behind loaders to 100,000+ pound heavy machinery, if you are in the market to buy construction equipment for your next job, look no further than your local Bobcat and Doosan dealership – Synergy Equipment. From new and used machinery, to parts, service and rentals, Synergy Equipment is your one-stop shop for all your equipment needs! “For any job you can imagine, if it involves construction, chances are we have it,” says Territory Manager Ken Caple. A privately held company that is dedicated to selling high-quality machinery from trusted manufacturers, Synergy Equipment was established in 2012, and has since acquired four long standing Bobcat dealerships throughout Central and South Florida. During the first phase of acquisitions, to better serve the needs of their customers, they added additional lines of equipment manufacturers to their dealership model, including Doosan heavy machinery.

From equipment attachments to heavy machinery, Synergy Equipment is proud to be your authorized dealer for Bobcat and Doosan. Browsing through their huge showroom, located at 2910 Overpass Road in Tampa, you will find an extensive selection of Bobcat equipment for sale, including Mini Excavators, Excavator Attachments, All-wheel Steer Loaders, Compact Track Loaders, Skid Steer Loaders, Loader Attachments, Mini Track Loaders, Telehandlers, Utility Vehicles, and UTV Attachments. If you’re searching for Doosan equipment for sale, they are sure to have the right machine to help you get the job done! “We are your one-stop location for everything,” says Ken. “We even have road mechanics that come to job sites to help service the equipment. We are heavily focused on providing quality customer service and taking care of our customers.” Synergy Equipment understands that when it comes to working on a job site, there are a lot of moving parts that have to effectively come together

to ensure everything goes as planned. By recruiting and retaining quality team members, their company does all they can to keep the stress level of their customers to a minimum. This professionalism, coupled with the high-performance machines that they sell, ensures that with everything you have

to worry about, uptime on your equipment doesn’t have to be one of them! Very customer-oriented, from day one Ken is your point of contact for everything and anything you need, from start to finish. “I am the liaison between the customer and the dealership,” says Ken. “I am here to help

with everything I can.” Going above and beyond, Ken will often even deliver the parts himself or help by towing the machines into the shop to be serviced. Ken can be reached at (813) 352-5009 or by email at KCaple@SynergyEquip.com. Relying on industry expertise to help you figure out the perfect piece of equipment for your upcoming job, whether it is a rental piece or for purchase Ken and the trained professionals at Synergy Equipment will guide you through their equipment and offer advice as to ensure that you are

not underpowered or over buying for something you do not need. Once you buy a piece of equipment – the exceptional service doesn’t stop there. The parts, service and rental departments are always there to help serve you and keep you running. Affordable Financing There are so many benefits to buying equipment, one of which can be job cost/ownership cost. “Ownership costs in the first three to five years are very low,” says Ken. “The overall dollar cost and monthly payments to purchase machinery and parts are

For Advertising Info 813-928-6124 • NNLFlorida.com

generally about half of what it would cost to rent that same piece of equipment.” In addition to a significantly lower cost, buying your own equipment becomes even more enticing with the special no-interest financing offered by Bobcat & Doosan, which includes 0% interest on new equipment for up to 60 months, on some models. This is on top of the extra programs that Bobcat offers on a monthly basis, such as rebates and extended warranties. (Bobcat’s additional programs change from month to month; call Ken at (813) 352-5009 for the most current, up-to-date specials). When it comes to working with machinery, quality makes all the difference in the world; not having the right equipment can easily turn a perfectly

good job site into a disaster. Ken says, “Quality is the biggest characteristic of Bobcat. Long-term Bobcats tend to last the longest, especially in rough environments where they are exposed to extensive wear and tear. We still have customers who have machines from the 1980’s. As long as you keep them serviced, Bobcats will last those extra hours, whereas other machines might break down.” Synergy Equipment is located on the corner of 301 and Overpass Road at 2910 Overpass Road in Tampa. For questions or more information please contact Ken Caple on his cell at (813) 352-5009 or by email at KCaple@SynergyEquip.com. Under Armour Co-Ed Flag Football League Beginning this winter in Tampa is a nationwide co-ed flag football league sponsored by Under Armour and Brothers In Arms Foundation. The flag football league was created to promote a competitive, confidence-building, non-contact football experience for all skill levels. In charge of the Tampa chapter is John Kaleo, former Tampa Bay Storm quarterback and owner of one of the top quarterback academies in the country (John Kaleo QB Academy). John says, “Unlike other flag football leagues, what made me gravitate to Under Armour was the format we are using; a 7 on 7 structure designed to delop each player’s skills. This means there is no pass rush and just a sack count, which allows the QB to set his feet and deliver the ball properly while receivers and defenders can develop the timing needed in the passing game. We also transition the kids from the 6 on 6 format into the high school 7 on 7 game through grade levels, so the 7th-8th graders will play under the HS 7 on 7 rules.” When asked what he enjoys

12

VOLUME 1 ISSUE 5

most about this league John said, “I enjoy watching the development of our youth in the athletic arena as they learn to compete while still showing sportsmanship. We also want to bring back the honoring of our Champions and rewarding them with medals and trophies, instead of everyone getting a medal for participation. The other thing that is neat about our league is we play our games on Friday nights so we have food vendors and music present for our families. This creates a fun atmosphere for everyone.” With most leagues running on weekends I’m sure parents will be happy with the Friday night schedule and keeping the rest of the weekend open for any other family activities. The league will consist of these core values and principles: • Competitive Co-ed league for grades K-8th • 6v6 format with sack count • HS 7v7 format for grades 7th-8th • 7 weeks of Games plus Playoffs • 9 players per team so everyone plays • “Friend/Team” request

• Online shopping for discounted Under Armour apparel • Food & Entertainment for Families Proceeds will go to the Brothers In Arms Foundation, which honors fallen soldiers and provides funding assistance to existing organizations, where the need is significant, with an

emphasis on educational opportunities and financial assistance for service members, heroic community servants, and their families. For more information or to register for the league please go to www.uaflag.com. The season runs from December through February.
