Same Day Teeth™ Equals Same Day Confidence for Patients at Coastal Jaw Surgery

The kitchen is the heart of the home, which is why it’s so important to make it as special and unique as the family that gathers within it. From that first hot cup of coffee to that late night science project, the kitchen is more than a place to cook and grab a bite to eat. For many, the kitchen is the most important room in their house, yet in many it is outdated! Old Formica countertops and cabinet doors, knobs that have seen better days, a troubling lack of counter space, and drawers that stick call out for a good old-fashioned makeover. More than a makeover, remodeling the kitchen is an investment in the value of the home. For forty years, local customers, builders and contractors have been depending on J & E Custom Cabinets in Hudson to create their dream kitchen, whether they’ve built from scratch or remodeled, there’s no kitchen that J & E can’t re-imagine. Family-owned and operated, J & E Custom Cabinets was founded by husband and wife team, John and Effie Deskins in 1976. Created out of a See “Custom Cabinets” on page 42.

Teeth™ is a concept we’ve been working on now for a number of years. We can replace a single tooth, or all teeth in one jaw or both jaws all at one time. See “Coastal Jaw” on page 46.

More Space Place Helps You Create Space, Simply! By Katie Thomas More Space Place has attractive, functional and efficient solutions to help create more space within your home without the hassle of a remodel or a costly addition. More Space Place’s array of products includes custom closets, home office furniture and organization systems, Murphy wall beds, garage systems and kitchen organization solutions. More Space Place has hundreds of options to allow you to turn any room into a multi-functional room to fully utilize the existing space you already have. Starting off as a single retail location in the early 1980s, More Space Place has grown to become a nationally recognized and trusted company that continues to grow due to their high level of quality customer service and quality organization products. Today, the company has more than 40 stores that are locally owned and operated by community members. In Tampa Bay there are three convenient showrooms and Design Centers. Clark Williams and Robert Schmidt are the owners of the Tampa Bay franchise. The first store opened in 1995 in Pinellas County and 1996 in Hillsborough County. According to Clark, since the beginning, the innovative designs and space efficiency generated by the More Space Place’s products has made the business exciting and never boring. “When I joined More Space Place, we offered a single line of Murphy Beds along with a limited choice of complimenting bookcases. Over the last twenty years, it has been really exciting to watch our product line and our company grow,” says Clark. “More Space Place now offers the largest selection of wall beds available and in addition, we also offer a massive line of complimenting space saving and organizational furniture. “As one of, if not the largest, specialty retailer of space-saving furniture, we offer free in-home design consultations as well as having showrooms where our clients can see and feel the quality of our products. When someone visits one of our three Showroom Design Centers, they will find skilled More Space Place designers who will introduce them to a full array of wall beds and cabinet options. In addition they will also find complete furniture collections for beauti-

ful and functional closets, home office, garages, media centers, utility rooms and so much more.” Clark says, “We feel selecting furniture is a very important decision and one that is often an uncomfortable process for our clients, so we believe if they can see various designs and get to feel and touch the furniture, it makes the purchasing decision easier. Since they are so many color, finish and material options available seeing these in person also ensures that they can choose the best choice to match the aesthetics of their home as well as matching their lifestyle. The experience is further enhanced with a 3 Dimensional software program that allows our clients to see what the furniture would look like in their home. We have found with this visual aid it is much easier for the client and the designer to work together to create the perfect design that is specifically created to meet the needs and desires of the client.” Satisfied customer Rita says, “I have lived in Palm Harbor for 20 years, dealing with many service companies; but, I have to say that the More Space Place is by far the most professional, caring, experienced company I have ever met. I cannot say how overwhelmed I am by their customized work but, more importantly, by the care and dedication that they gave me. They called prior to the date of the installation asking if the date was still acceptable, then called me the next morning to give me the anticipated arrival time and all the while checking with my availability. Customer service was of prime importance to everyone I have dealt with – something so rare in this day. I love my closets and when I’m ready to

Small Business Owner? Pasco-Hernando SCORE Mentors Can Help You Succeed for Free! By Julie Kanehl Have you ever been in a situation where you’re about to try something new, but you’d like to talk to an expert on the topic before you dive in? We’ve all felt this way, whether we’re trying a new recipe or planning a trip. But when you’re starting a business, or you have a small business that may be struggling, there’s a whole lot more at risk than a burnt dish or a less than satisfactory hotel room. If you’re a small business owner or an entrepreneur, starting a business is an exciting yet scary time. There’s so much to learn, from payroll and taxes to time management and customer service. While many small business owners throw in the towel before they even begin, or worse, shut their businesses down because they hadn’t done their homework, there’s a free resource right here that can help. Pasco-Hernando SCORE is located in New Port Richey, and offers their services throughout both coun-

10

ties, virtually and personally – face to face, on the phone and online (www.pascohernando.score.org). For the many successful business owners who have utilized SCORE, they’ll tell you that it is a goldmine of knowledge, experience and camaraderie, yet many people in our area don’t even know they’re here! That’s a shame because there are more than 13,000 small businesses in Pasco County, and 10,000 more in Hernando County who could benefit from SCORE, at no little to no cost! There’s no gimmick, no scam, just possibly the best-kept secret in business. That’s right, SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) is a national organization that offers to train and mentor small business owners for free. Mentored by retired professionals who have real-world experience, SCORE offers local programs and one-on-one training opportunities that can be revolutionary for your business. Imagine being able to talk to someone who started a similar business to yours

SCORE is a valuable, yet free, resource for business owners, offering the tools and guidance that can help businesses grow and succeed thirty years ago! Technology and advancements are important, but nothing can compete with hard-earned experience, and that is why SCORE is so phenomenal at helping new entrepreneurs succeed. Founded in 1964, SCORE has 350 chapters nationally, with more than 10,000 volunteers, all men and women who retired from businesses, but who want to help others by sharing what they know. If you want to start a business, they can help you learn how to start, how to apply for a business

loan, how to use quick books, and even how to help current business owners with problems they may be facing. More than cheerleaders, these professionals will tell you how they see it and share resources that work in the real world. The Pasco-Hernando SCORE chapter, chapter 439, was founded in 1979. At Chapter 439, more than 30 volunteers offer their time and energy to share their knowledge and experience with those who want to learn. Popular topics range from how to use

Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

the latest business software to how to market yourself on social media and everything in between. Theresa Paradise and Marcia Connelley, owners of the popular Massage Envy Spa franchise, said, “SCORE saved our business! SCORE has had such an instrumental impact on our business it is hard to define in words how thankful we are for the success they have helped us create. They have believed in us from day one and have molded us into the successful owners we are today.” Mike Lewis, Chairman of Pasco Hernando SCORE, said, “If you’re just starting a business, SCORE mentors can provide the practical action plan, education and tools you need to open your doors and to establish a customer-base.” He adds, “Already in business? Our volunteer mentors can help identify ways to increase business profits, improve employee and customer satisfaction. We can be your confidant and your cheerleaders on your path to success, all at no cost.” Within Chapter 439, which happens to be a Platinum chapter, as well of Chapter of the Year, Pasco-Hernando SCORE has helped thousands of local people. Conducting more than 2500 individual mentoring sessions, all free and confidential, and more than 80 free or low-cost training and educa-

tional seminars a year, it’s hard to believe that more people aren’t utilizing this amazing program! Get Matched with a Free Mentor and Watch Your Business Grow! All you have to do to receive a mentor is to fill out a simple form that will allow SCORE to match you with a mentor who would be most beneficial to you. With the ability to meet locally or via email, the mentor program is hugely beneficial. Greg Warner, Owner of MarketSmart, said, “I wanted real-world help from someone who had been in the trenches. Hal usually gives me specific to-dos. I promise to do them because I know he’ll ask me about them the next time we meet. I don’t want to let him down. He believes in me and wants my business to succeed as much as I do.” More than simply giving advice, the mentor program is designed to give you the tools you need to move forward, get beyond whatever hurdle your business may be facing, and succeed in the long-term. Mike Lewis explained, “Our job as mentors is to lead, guide and direct them beyond the idea and beyond the dream and into the realities of owning a business. The truth is that it’s a 24 hour a day commitment to start a business, but we can help.”

Attend Free Business Training Seminars SCORE offers free and low-cost training seminars all over Pasco and Hernando Counties, meeting at local libraries and colleges. In the second half of May, workshops will be offered on internet marketing, grant writing for non-profits, an introduction to Microsoft Excel, how to “really start your business,” and an intro to Quick Books. Offering their classes in a variety of rotating locations, it’s easy to learn the necessary tools needed to succeed. If you would prefer to take online classes, there is a wide variety of free online courses that can help as well, including courses like “Power Up Your Small Business” or “Protect Your Business’s Copyright from Copycats” and “Taking the Mystery out of Benefits.” Whether you prefer to learn in person, virtually, or both, there’s no stopping someone from succeeding in the business of their choice when they have the tools, resources and the helpful mentorship of SCORE!

nity to lead classes and seminars, provide mentoring, and serve as leaders within the organization. As a volunteer for SCORE, you’ll have the unique opportunity to share your unique skill set with the next generation of entrepreneurs, help the community and put all of that great experience of yours to good use! You’ll most likely make some great friends in the process! We had our air back up and running by dinner.” Brian M. chose Air Hawk and states, “Called four different AC vendors to get price quotes. Air Hawk had the best online reviews but I still wanted to insure their prices were competitive. Of the three other vendors, two quoted much higher prices and the third was a no show! I made sure to compare identically sized and rated equipment; Air Hawk won hands down. The three installers were extremely professional, wore booties while in the house (I replaced ducts as well as having a new AC and took the time to answer my questions and show me how to use the new thermostat.” Brian adds, “I never write reviews online (unless they are bad). Sugardarlings – Share the Sweetness! By Dara Tucker Jessica Beebe, owner and baker at Sugardarlings Cones and Cupcakes, opened the original store in Trinity, off Old County Road 54 in February of 2010. As a mom who lives locally in the Trinity area, she initially wanted to open an affordable neighborhood ice cream shop that caters to the budget of the average family. Cupcakes were originally intended to be a side item, or an alternative to ice cream, and were first baked in her toaster oven! When Jess sold over 300 cupcakes the first week of her business, she knew she would need a larger oven to keep up with the demand. Much of Sugardarlings’ success comes from word of mouth from the happy customers who share their love of Jess’s cupcakes with their friends and family. Little could Jess have imagined that within six years the demand of her sweet treats would have her baking full time with three locations in the Tampa Bay Area in Tarpon Springs, Trinity/New Port Richey, and Odessa/Lutz/Land O’Lakes.

18

Sugardarlings serves between fifteen to twenty different baked-fromscratch, flavors of cupcakes daily, sure to satisfy every sweet tooth. The cupcakes are made using wholesome, quality ingredients such as sweet cream butter, whole milks, whipping cream, fresh fruit juices and rich quality chocolate. You can taste the quality! Sugardarlings’ cupcake taste combinations are both delicious and fun. Traditional flavors like vanilla vanilla, apple pie, and carrot cake are

always moist and beautifully presented. Key lime and cannoli are two of my favorite flavors. The key lime cupcake has a creamy key lime center with a cream frosting that has crushed graham crackers around the edges, mimicking a slice of key lime pie. The cannoli flavor cupcake is a faster seller, and worth the little extra charge. The cupcake is a perfect compliment to the real cannoli filling topping. Children’s favorites, which are perfect for a party,

include dirt cup, birthday cake, and cotton candy. If you’re having a dinner party or family get together I recommend getting some of Sugardarlings fun, adventurous, and sometimes-savory flavors. Ginger wasabi and maple bacon are some of Jess’s flavors that are perfect to share. Adults also enjoy varieties such as Irish coffee and margarita, which contain alcohol. Get a dozen different flavors, split them in half or

Sugardarlings’ fun, family atmosphere is important to Jess. She is actively involved in local school events, and treats customers like they are an extension of her own family. Truly the only thing sweeter than Jess and her staff are the cupcakes and ice cream they serve. Even the name of her business comes from a sweet family

tradition that started when her Grandmother would tell the grandchildren to “come over here darling and get some sugar.” Jess’s mother reminded her of Grandma’s saying and Jess began calling her own children “sugar darlings.” The sweet sentiment of how Sugardarlings was named is more than name for Jess’s business; it’s a way of life. Sugardarlings nurtures the communities in which they are based, truly

creating partnerships and extended families. In addition to fundraisers, which give back a portion of the proceeds to community schools and charities, there are also several opportunities throughout the year when customers can receive discounts by providing can foods or donations for families in need. Sugardarlings cupcakes are made with love, and the positive atmosphere of Jess’s business reminds all of us to share the sweetness within ourselves with others. Brooke Byers of Trinity says, “It’s not just that Sugardarlings’ cupcakes are delicious, it’s also that Jess and her staff are a joy to be around. You can’t help but to be happy when you’re at Sugardarlings.” Jess and her team make cupcakes for weddings, baby showers, birthdays, and gender reveal parties – you name it! Sugardarlings can accommodate large school and corporate orders – no order is too small or too large. Special orders require 72 hours advance notice, and if there’s a special flavor you would like but don’t see, just ask for a custom order. You can also set up birthday parties and Girl Scout groups to celebrate at Sugardarlings. Follow Sugardarlings on Facebook for deals

on cupcakes and cones and “Friend” them to see the latest options. In addition to the three Sugardarlings locations, the signature cupcakes can also be found at many of the Morton Plant hospital locations, The Candy Bar in Dunedin, Christo’s Family Restaurant in Trinity, Perks Coffeehouse in Trinity, Felicitous near USF Tampa, and many more retailers in the Tampa Bay Area. Anyone wanting to sell Sugardarlings fresh delicious cupcakes in their boutique, deli, coffee shop, bookstore, or retail store can give Jess a call at 727-376-2253. Come by and order some of best cupcakes you’ll ever taste, made by bakers who remind us how sweet life is! Knowledge Points - “Affordable Tutoring. Proven Results.” By Katie Thomas KnowledgePoints is a traditional tutoring center that excels in remediation, enrichment, and test preparation. With a goal to provide a tutoring environment for students that focuses on filling in learning gaps and building a strong foundation to grow from, KnowledgePoints provides tutoring services that help children find confidence in themselves and in their abilities as students. KnowledgePoints caters to public, private and home school students who are in need of tutoring after school, on weekends and over the summer. Rocky and Monica Contreras opened their first KnowledgePoints tutoring center in Land O’Lakes eight years ago and have recently opened a new tutoring center location in Trinity. “My wife and I started this business because we saw a need within the community for tutoring and academic support,” says Rocky. “Monica’s entire career has been in teaching and my background is in business and training,

22

which made KnowledgePoints a good choice for us. I had no idea how rewarding this business would be. We’re helping build confidence at the same time we’re building their academic skills, and it’s such a rewarding experience to be a part of helping students achieve success. When you see a young child with no confidence come in hanging their head, and you watch the process of their learning experience turn into a boost in their self-confidence – it’s a fantastic feeling. We get to see that sort of thing every day.” KnowledgePoints offers affordable tutoring services customized to meet each child’s needs. Rocky explains, “I find that many parents assume that all tutoring is the same. In reality, there are different approaches to tutoring. One thing that sets us apart is that we are flexible enough to utilize the approach that makes the most sense for each child. A lot of tutoring is ‘homework help,’ which is more of a focus on what that child may be struggling with today in a specific subject.” That approach to tutoring can be helpful, but the

benefits are often short-lived. “We all tend to learn by continually building on our existing skills. So when we see a child struggling in a subject such as math or reading, it’s usually due to some missing fundamentals.” Many families see better long-term results from using a diagnostic approach to tutoring. At KnowledgePoints, students typically start with an assessment (math or reading or writing) before they begin a tutoring program. When they receive the testing results and see how their child’s score compares to students at the same grade level across the country, parents are then able to decide what direction they want to go with their child. “If they decide to enroll, we use the assessment results to customize a plan

tailored to that child’s needs,” says Rocky. “We’ll start with the most basic areas they haven’t mastered and work our way forward from there.” KnowledgePoints offers tutoring for reading, math and writing in addition to a Study Skills program, SAT and ACT Test Prep programs, and a Homework Edge program that uti-

lizes that ‘homework help’ approach to support kids in specific classes they may be struggling with. All tutoring at KnowledgePoints is individualized, and each student is paired with an experienced tutor that will help them develop a love for learning. “All of our tutors are professionals,” says Rocky, “we don’t use high school or college students.” Perhaps the best news for many parents – your kids will enjoy it! “All we need is one day with your child to get them excited about coming back to KnowledgePoints,” says Rocky. “We have a motivation system that re-

wards students for giving their best effort. They earn ‘Success Points’ that they can spend on games, toys and gift certificates.” All the tutors at KnowledgePoints work hard to connect with kids and make learning fun. “When a child struggles with a subject long enough, they begin to associate it with frustration or even failure. Our tutors help them build their confidence and develop tools for success that they can use in every aspect of their lives.” Students and Parents Love KnowledgePoints! Past student Hannah says, “My experience with KnowledgePoints was nothing but amazing. I first visited for Algebra II tutoring and later on I began taking their ACT prep classes. My math tutor was very sweet and my grade improved greatly from the tutoring. My ACT prep classes were extremely helpful and proved very much worth it when I scored higher than I

Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

thought I would on the ACT. All of the tutors there are kind, considerate, and help students in every way they can. I always recommend KnowledgePoints to my friends and to anyone who needs their outstanding tutoring. With my high ACT score I can now apply to many colleges and have the ability to choose where I want to go, all thanks to their amazing services.” Parents also have great things to say about KnowledgePoints. Jenny shares, “KnowledgePoints Tutoring is more than just tutoring. It gives a child a few hours a week to ask for help in a comfortable environment. My high school son has gained confidence since coming here and increased his last quarter grade by two letters! I would highly recommend KnowledgePoints to parents of any age [child].” Another parent, Leslie, says, “My son was reading at below level when he entered 1st grade. I tried to help him at home, which demonstrated little improvement and our son was quickly becoming frustrated. My husband and I decided to try KnowledgePoints Tutoring. We saw positive results almost immediately. Within two months there was a huge improvement in our son’s reading skills. By the second semester

of school he was reading on [grade] level. He is now in the 3rd grade and is reading at a 4th grader’s level.” KnowledgePoints provides improved confidence and skills, and tangible results, while helping students find the motivation and confidence to succeed on their own. One of the most important gifts we can give our children is the gift of self-empowerment and knowledge. KnowledgePoints offers enrollment all year long and has a great summer program so students don’t experience the dreaded “summer slide.” Rocky says, “We have some families that come every summer because they don’t want their children to lose what they’ve worked so hard to gain all year. We help keep them sharp over the summer, so when the fall comes around they are ready to go!” For information about KnowledgePoints in Trinity, call (727) 484-6178 or log on to www.trinity.knowledgepoints.com; for information about KnowledgePoints in Land O’ Lakes, please call (813) 909-0781 or log on to www. landolakes.knowledgepoints.com

Jail and Bail Fundraiser Huge Success with $53,000 Raised Martín Gramática, former NFL Kicker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Morgan and Morgan Attorney Adam Brum were among the local celebrities serving time for a great cause at the 5th Annual Wheelchairs 4 Kids Jail and Bail fundraiser held April 29th at Charley’s Steak House in Tampa. Some of Tampa Bay’s prominent citizens, charged with humorous offenses, were handcuffed and taken to “jail” where bail was set by Jail and Bail Judges Julie and Steve Weintraub, the owners of Gold & Diamond Source in Clearwater. The Weintraub’s approached each case with a great sense of humor and kept the event lively and entertaining. “Court-ordered” to pay for their crimes, faux felons contacted friends and family to raise bail. Participants did their jobs well, raising $53,000 to benefit Wheelchairs 4 Kids, a local 501(C) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing equipment for children with mobility challenges. Wheelchairs 4 Kids’ Executive Director Madeline Robinson was touched that the fundraiser had record

success, stating, “I can’t believe we broke another record! I did not anticipate over $50,000. It just shows how hard our ‘felons’ worked and how committed they are to helping our kids. We are so lucky to have such a supportive community.” In addition to providing walkers, wheelchairs and other mobility items to children in need, Wheelchairs 4 Kids also plans special field trips for them. Some favorite past trips have included visiting Winter the dolphin at Clearwater Marine Aquarium, going to WWE events, and experiencing the excitement of the races at the St Pete Grand Prix. Several kids that Wheelchairs 4 Kids has helped were able to attend this year’s Jail and Bail event, including six-year-old Aiden, who was provided with a specialized bicycle that can help in his physical therapy. WWE wrestler Titus O’Neil made a special appearance by celebrating his birthday with the kids during the Jail and Bail at Charley’s. Titus held Aiden up to help him blow out the candles on the cake while everyone sang

This year’s Annual Wheelchairs 4 Kids Jail and Bail Fundraiser broke its record for total funds raised and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers Kicker Martín Gramática broke the individual record, raising more than $8,000 happy birthday to the superstar. Martín Gramática, found guilty of “excessive celebration” by Jail and Bail Judges Steve and Julie, set a new individual record raising over $8,000. Gramática commented, “Wheelchairs 4 Kids is unbelievable. There’s no way you can’t help out. I would love to do

Arts Education Authority Names Longleaf Elementary One Of Florida’s Best Public Schools For The Arts Arts Education lives strong in the heart of Longleaf Elementary School, whose exemplary arts programs made them one of the best public schools for the arts in the state. The Florida Alliance for Arts Education (FAAE) recently recognized 14 Florida public schools as Florida Arts Model Schools: Longleaf received the designation for outstanding programs in music and visual arts. Longleaf Elementary was chosen for offering Mini Majors, which is an exploratory arts wheel. Every seven weeks, fourth grade students rotate through an introduction to an area of the fine or performance arts. These rotations include dance, photography, green screen, stop animation, and improv/comedy. Fifth graders choose their top three areas of interest from Mini Majors, and focus on two of them in-depth, called Majors. Each semester, the fifth grade students work in one of their areas of interest, applying their skills in a long-term project, which prepares them for their transi-

38

tion to middle school. Majors allow students to interact with different peers than their usual classmates, all of whom have the same interest as they do. In each Mini Major and Major, students work with fellow students for a common goal. Students learn to be leaders, to compromise and to work to meet deadlines. Longleaf also produces a full-scale musical each year, which included last year’s Tampa Bay premier of The Lion King. In addition to musicals, Longleaf Liberty Singers and Freedom Review Show Choir are recognized throughout the state. This year, Freedom will be traveling to Washington, D.C. to represent the school and district at America Sings! Live at the Lincoln Memorial. Artwork from students is displayed in prominent places throughout Pasco County. Many students attend a weekly supplemental enrichment opportunity, Modern Masters Art Club, where they design and create collaborative art projects that are showcased in the

The winning schools will also be presented with their Florida Arts Model Schools Award at the Leadership Summit during a special luncheon in their honor on Saturday, June 25. About Florida Arts Model Schools Program The Florida Alliance for Arts Education (FAAE) evaluates and approves schools based on criteria development by the Florida Department of Education, FAAE and Florida’s professional service associations for dance, music, theater and visual art.

Schools that meet this criteria are committed for a three-year period to assist FAAE, school officials, teachers and other interested persons in observing quality fine arts programs and make suggestions for program improvement. The selected schools receive public recognition at the annual FAAE Leadership Summit. Florida Arts Model Schools offer exemplary arts programs, exemplary arts integration programs, exemplary instructional settings, outstanding community connections, or other factors that make them worth attention and visiting. got us to the point we are at now.” Rachelle and Troy’s 1-800-GOTJUNK? business services all of Pasco, Northern Pinellas and Hillsborough with complete full-service junk removal, professional call services and free estimates with pricing based on the volume of junk being removed. “Our friendly professional haulers will handle almost any kind of junk as long as it is non-hazardous,” says Troy. “We pick up single items or can handle multiple truckloads of junk for commercial and residential clients. Our friendly, uniformed drivers will do all the lifting for you, clean up and haul your junk away. More than 60 percent of what we haul away is recycled or reused and our haulers will do the sorting for you to determine if something should go to the dump, local charities or recycle centers. We have even taken small boats, engine blocks, sheds and docks. We can take away almost any material we can fit in our trucks, without you ever lifting a finger. We’ll remove junk from wherever it’s located and we won’t leave a dent or

speck of dirt behind! And we are fully licensed and insured.” Simple and Easy! Getting rid of the things we don’t need can sometimes be an emotional rollercoaster. Many times we place sentimental attachments on things that no longer serve a purpose in our lives. Most of the time, when it comes to excess stuff, we hold on to it “just in case.” If you aren’t sure about an item, ask yourself a few questions. Have I used this in the last six months? (Or, for some of us, in the last six years?) Am I keeping this out of obligation or expectation? Do I have more than one of these? Am I holding onto a broken item to fix one day? Is this item worth the time I spend cleaning it? Is this item worth the space it is taking up,

Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

and can I use this space for something better? If you find yourself answering no to many of these questions, it may be time to call 1-800-GOT-JUNK?. Troy says, “Our service is the most inexpensive way for you to gain space in your home or office. Most people find that they have an extra 100, 200 or even 500 square foot of space after they declutter and remove unwanted items.” Junk removal is as easy as making a phone call with 1-800-GOT-JUNK?. Begin by making a call to Rachelle and Troy’s professional calling service and schedule a convenient pick up time. Customers are given a two-hour time

window for the arrival of the trucks and will receive a phone call 15 to 30 minutes before the arrival of the truck. Once the guys are on-site with their trucks they will give you an estimate, load up your unwanted goods into the truck and leave you with a less cluttered, more organized space. “All you have to do is point out to us what you don’t want anymore and we do the rest,” assures Troy. “From the sorting to the recycling to the hauling, we make sure your stuff ends up where it should, whether that is at a donation center for charity, the recycling center or repurposing center. We take care of it all, so you can focus

Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

on creating more space for you and your family.” 1-800-GOT-JUNK? disposes of any non-hazardous materials and specializes in the removal of household junk items including appliances, mattresses, furniture, carpet, television sets, and tires. The company will remove office junk, offering computer, printer and monitor recycling. Not only does 1-800-GOT-JUNK? remove unwanted home and office extras, the company can take care of construction debris, yard debris, and will remove disaster preparation materials. They also work with building contractors, property managers and real estate agents. 1-800-GOT-JUNK? is environmentally conscious and recycles or donates everything they can when possible. Rachelle says, “We operate out of a 4500-square-foot warehouse where we sort and store items for recycling, donating and repurposing. “We recycle as much as we can. Sixty percent of the materials we remove are recycled or donated to Lighthouse Ministries, Sheriff’s Youth Ranch, and other charities and thrift stores.” One customer, Kelly, says, “Great service...right on time, safe and friendly driver/ haulers. We had a sleeper sofa

to remove (that wasn’t in bad shape) but charities didn’t want it or it would take a while for an appointment. 1800-GOT-JUNK? was a better price than competitors and the best part of using this service is that they work to donate it to an organization that would like to have it. I would much rather it be reused than go to a landfill! I would recommend them!” Satisfied customer Josh says, “I had about half my garage stuffed with cardboard boxes and other miscellaneous junk. I also had some extremely heavy trashcans on the side that the garbage men wouldn’t take. Booked online, they came, grabbed everything and were done in about 30 minutes (last time I tried to clean out my garage and boxes and cut everything up it took me an entire day and I still wasn’t done). Fantastic service and they did a great job.” If you want to unburden yourself from unnecessary stuff, 1-800-GOTJUNK? literally lightens your load! Call 1-800-GOT-JUNK (1800-468-5865) to schedule a free estimate and/or pick-up or visit 1800gotjunk.com to book online or for additional information.

I love my kitchen and bathroom!” Johnny says, “There’s nothing we can’t do, and just because we’re a custom builder doesn’t mean that we can’t work within a budget.” Adding, “We have the ability to work within any budget. “Coastal Jaw” Continued from page 1 What makes this protocol unique is that it utilizes computer-based software as well as cone beam CT technology to allow for 3D planning and precision implant placement. In addition, teeth are made from the software planning in advance of the day of surgery. This is in stark contrast to giving a patients plastic denture teeth that are anchored by implants placed free handed.” Dr. Pikos adds that with Same Day Teeth™ procedures, traditional bone grafting is not necessary. Unfortunately, this is not the case most times with the tradition method. He continues, “The traditional approach for many patients involves bone grafting, delayed implant placement, and subsequently, crowns. This approach could take up to a year and a half in treatment time.” “With Same Day Teeth™, total treatment time is reduced to a single visit,” says Dr. Pikos. “At this appointment, provisional teeth are placed and are permanent. And these are followed by the final permanent teeth approximately four months later. While there is more planning required prior to the ‘ultimate day’ with the Same Day Teeth™ protocol, the result is a more predictable and precise one.” Patients Love Their Smiles Again with Same Day Teeth™ Watching the video testimonials of Coastal Jaw Surgery patients makes one realize how emotional it is when someone feels free to smile again after a long time. Joann Forcino from Spring Hill is one of Dr. Pikos’ patients who had the Same Day Teeth™ procedure.

46

She had severe bone loss due to gum disease that she’d struggled with since she was 27 and the treatment she received left her teeth discolored. Joann shares, “Prior to the surgery I never had a smile on my face – never – my mouth was always closed.” Same Day Teeth™ was a life-changer for Joann, who continues, “The biggest difference for me was how I looked and how I came across, lacking confidence in myself and not wanting to smile.” Joann went to numerous dentists before coming to Dr. Pikos, and was told that she wasn’t a candidate for implants. “They made me feel pretty hopeless, actually. And on top of that,” here she pauses, “I get a little choked up. It makes you feel like you aren’t taking care of yourself, which was not the case with me because I was. I guess genetically I was just dealt, you know, a hand of cards that had to do with the gum disease being so advanced.” Genetics may have dealt her a blow that cost her confidence, but Dr. Pikos and his team restored it. “That is the biggest gift in all of this – the confidence. I like to smile again,” Joann says with a big smile and a genuine little laugh. “There was an improvement immediately. Actually, right after surgery of course you have recovery time, but you walk out of there with teeth. My confidence went up one hundred percent from the first day. I just feel like I looked better. When you look better, you feel better, and you can produce better, you act better. Life is better, all the way around, truly.” Her family loves her new smile too. “My husband is thrilled with the care that I’ve gotten and with the outcome,” says Joann. “I like to smile. I like to look at pictures of myself now.” James Gray’s video shows that

Dr. Pikos followed up with patient James Gray to see how he was doing ten days after Same Day Teeth™ surgery he is a handsome young grandfather, but he hasn’t always felt that way. He admits that he doesn’t have any photos of himself and his grandkids where he is smiling. “It’s going to be nice to do that,” he says to Dr. Pikos on video just ten days after his “ultimate day” getting the first permanent set of Same Day Teeth™. When

MAY 2016

Dr. Pikos asks about his teeth, he replies, “Well, it’s a whole new life. Now I can smile without putting my hand over my face.” In the video, Dr. Pikos reminds James, “These aren’t the final ones.” The second set will be a true masterpiece, but James is overwhelmed with the difference he already feels, saying to Dr. Pikos,

“It’s just a miracle – a blessing really. I can’t thank you enough.” Karen McKeith came to Dr. Pikos from Bradenton on a referral from her nephew and says about Same Day Teeth™, “I feel like I got my whole life back!” After a sixtooth bridge broke three times, costing her thousands of dollars, she finally told her dentist to pull her teeth, but soon realized she’d made a mistake. “I should have had the implants done then. I was very uncomfortable with my dentures. I just felt like I had a mouth full of plastic. I couldn’t taste food. The first thing I

did when I walked through the door was to take my dentures out. I was absolutely miserable. I was very unhappy. And now I am the happiest person in the world. It was a huge, huge relief for me. It’s back to being normal – like my teeth grew back in. I am so much more confident in myself when I look in the mirror and I see my teeth. I feel like a new person. And I owe it all to Dr. Pikos. It’s been a great and wonderful experience. The care I got was always extraordinary. I always felt special when I would come in to the office. It’s like, ‘You’re the only person in this

whole building ––we’re taking care of you.’ And I know they are busy with many patients, but that’s they way they make you feel – like you’re the only one that matters. Somebody said, ‘Why do you drive 80 miles?’ I said because I wanted the best. I got the best.” In addition to Same Day TeethTM, Coastal Jaw Surgery’s team of board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons perform state-ofthe-art dental implant procedures, Digitally Guided Bone Augmentation™, periodontal plastic surgery, wisdom teeth extractions, extractions

with site preservation, pediatric and pre-orthodontic care, oral pathology, and the safest, proven anesthesia options. “We have so many patients that have had a full jaw or even both jaws done with our Same Day Teeth™ protocol and all are extremely pleased with the result,” says Dr. Pikos. “In fact, it’s all about improving our patients’ quality of life. We see a self-image change in all of our patients whether they receive a single implant or multiple implants. This is what makes it so satisfying for us as clinicians.” Coastal Jaw Surgery for Implants & Oral Reconstruction is open Mon. – Fri. from 8:15 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Palm Harbor office is located at 2711 Tampa Rd. and can be reached at 727-786-1631.
