it started predominantly as a “blues” band, the group quickly grew and became more popular in the local community and then throughout the entire state of Florida. In the past two years, the band became more versatile with the addition of a strong horn section and background vocals. In addition to “Rhythm and Blues”, the band stretched its style from “40’s swing music” to “50’s rock and roll” to “Popular hits” and much more. As popularity continued to grow over the years, The Deacon Blues Band has performed at over 100 venues. There is a $10 donation to watch the concert. Saddle Up for the Jane Brantley Memorial Golf Tournament

Palms Women’s Golf Association, Jane planned and executed some of the most beloved golf traditions in the Club’s history. Her Gasparilla and Derby Day tournaments are highly anticipated annual events. So, Steve and friends decided to do what Jane herself had done many times before, plan a golf tournament. “Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club is a big part of our community and our social outlet. It was a natural fit to do an event there with all the resources they bring to the table,” says Brantley. The Jane Brantley Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club on Sunday afternoon, September 27, 2015. It will be a joyful occasion, like the woman whose memory it honors. The format will be a four-person scramble. Cost is $125 per person and includes raffle prizes, a barbecue dinner, door prizes and lots of fun. Players will even get to meet Joey, Jane’s beloved horse who she competed with in regional and national tournaments. The tournament is open to the public. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit LifePath Hospice, helping families across Hillsborough Country by providing compassionate, quality, end of life care along with bereave-

Teen Cancer America aims to educate and support hospitals and outpatient facilities in the development of specialized units for this age group. The units are a place just for teens and young adults where the cancer experience is understood and the importance of living life through the cancer journey is nourished. Teen Cancer America’s work supports the coming together of physicians and allied healthcare professionals in both pediatric and adult oncology so that the teen and young adult cancer patient care becomes closer to where it needs to be. Age targeted care for this population is necessary for medical and appropriate psychosocial development of this unique age group. Research shows that some cancers that target this particular age group have not improved in over thirty years while improvements have been made in both pediatric and adult cancers alike. Teens and young adults with cancer are long overdue for an upgrade and Teen Cancer America can hopefully light the fire in America’s health systems. For Additional information please visit TeenCancerAmerica.org.

To say that Jane Brantley made an indelible mark on those she came in contact with is an understatement. Simply put, Jane loved life. She loved her family, her work as an educator, horse back riding, golfing, her friends, and planning events, all while making others feel welcome in her presence. A year ago Jane was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and she went to work fighting the disease with all she had. Ultimately, the quickly progressing disease overpowered her and in March she passed away after a tremendous fight. Both Jane and her husband of 42 years, Steve, received immense support from LifePath Hospice. So much so, that just a few months later, Jane’s husband and friends wanted to do something big in Jane’s honor to say thanks to the organization that provided end of life care and support to them at the most difficult time in their lives. According to Brantley, “The Hospice team was there for us for about six weeks leading up to Jane’s passing and their grief support services are available to us for 14 months. I can’t say enough about the people and the resources we were given.” As a past president of the Tampa

“RAYS UP For Our Community” Energizing Tampa Bay with the Magic of Rays Baseball! By Katelyn Thomas There are many reasons we love our Tampa Bay Rays! Of course, there are the games, where every inning has its white-knuckled, yellout-loud moments and the breaks are filled with laugh-out-loud antics that keep the live audience participating. There is no doubt, as you watch them heat up the diamond, that the Rays players have their heads and their hearts in the game. Furthermore, they have put their hearts into the Tampa Bay community and have put their heads together to make a real difference for the people living here.

Spanning the organization from the players to the management, the Tampa Bay Rays make it their team mission to stay active, both on and off the diamond. The Rays organization is much more than entertainment and finely tuned athleticism – though we do love that! From the players and their families to the corporate employees, the Rays are dedicated to making a difference in the community. One way that the Rays have been a positive force in Tampa Bay is through the Rays Baseball Foundation, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that supports youth education development. The Tampa Bay Rays and their support team continually

pitch in to help families and individuals in our community through charities, volunteer programs and partnership affiliates. This Summer: RAYS UP For Our Community! Most recently, the Rays created a new campaign called “RAYS UP for Our Community.” Launched on June 1st and lasting until September 20th, the “RAYS UP for Our Community” campaign focuses on four key areas – Kids, Heroes, Health and Education. Additionally, every game during each two-week campaign flight will highlight a partner agency “Everyday MVP” on the telecast and social media.

The four key areas of focus each have a Rays team ambassador, including pitchers Chris Archer and Matt Moore, manager Kevin Cash and infielder Evan Longoria. Each campaign has a deep personal meaning for them. Tampa Bay Rays president Brian Auld says, “We enter the 10th year of Stu Sternberg’s ownership with a renewed focus on our mission to energize our community through the magic of Rays baseball. The ‘RAYS UP For Our Community’ campaign celebrates our community partners and helps share their successes with a wider audience.” Rays pitcher Chris Archer “threw out the first pitch” on the

new campaign with RAYS UP for Kids on June 1st. Archer dedicates his time and support to programs that focus on kids in the communities of Tampa Bay, and he is a mentor and advocate for children. As part of RAYS UP for Kids, each of the 5,600 students who celebrated their graduation at Tropicana Field received vouchers for four tickets to any Rays game in the homestand from June 9th –16th. Matt Moore heads up the RAYS UP for Heroes campaign from June 29th to July 12th. Matt chose RAYS UP for Our Heroes, stating, “Baseball is our national pastime but we wouldn’t be able to enjoy it without the great men and women who protect us. I grew up on an Air Force base so I know firsthand that American heroes, like my dad, sacrifice every day to keep us safe. Your Tampa Bay Rays are committed to energizing our community through the magic of Rays’ baseball and supporting those who give so much for our freedom. Join us as we rally our community around active duty military, Veterans, first responders and their families.” RAYS UP for Heroes highlights the “Everyday MVPs” in our community to thank them for their service and dedication to the safety of our community. For the period of August 2–16, the “RAYS UP for Our Community” campaign switches to Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash’s focus, RAYS UP for Health. Cash and the Rays organization is inspired to promote health within the community and give thanks to healthcare professionals in the Tampa Bay area. With his daughter born with a congenital heart condition, Kevin Cash has experienced that we have another sector of heroes in Tampa Bay – the ones who look after our health. Cash will be working with Rays’ partners to raise awareness for health in our community with RAYS UP for Health! Rays ambassador Evan Longoria will RAYS UP for Education. The RAYS UP for Education part of the RAYS UP for Our Community campaign will last from September 7th until September 20th. Since 2006, the Rays Baseball Foundation has New Tampa Lifestyles

teamed with the Tampa Bay Times to promote “Reading with the Rays– –Read Your Way to the Ball Park,” made possible through a partnership with public library systems. Evan Longoria sponsors “Reading with the Rays,” which, because of his sponsorship, has grown to nine counties with more than 20,000 children participating annually. He is passionate about supporting children’s education and continues to find ways to make “Reading with the Rays” excel. Evan Longoria and the Rays received the Outstanding Business Partner of the Year from the Florida Literacy Coalition and will receive the 2015 Friend of Newspaper in Education Award from the Florida Press Education Services on July 23rd. Longoria’s dedication to education is outstanding.

How Do You RAYS UP? So, the question is, “How Do You RAYS UP?” The Rays want to hear from you! There are “Everyday MVPs” of all ages in Tampa Bay who set out to make a difference for others, and the Rays want to hear your stories. All summer long, fans are encouraged to submit stories answering the question, “How do YOU Rays Up?” If you are an “Everyday MVP” then join the big leagues and tell the Rays what you are doing to make a difference in Tampa Bay. Log on to www.raysbaseball.com/raysup to be inspired to RAYS UP for Our Community! You also can check out #RaysUp on Twitter and Instagram!

Tampa Rejuvenation - “Your Health Our Passion” Let’s face it, getting older has this awful little side effect of aging your body. As hormones deplete, our skin begins to sag and wrinkle, our sex drive declines, we gain unexplained weight, we have sleep issues, and our drive for life lessens. We cannot control time as it passes each day, but with advancements in technology and medical research, we now can slow down the negative effects of the aging process in a safe and very effective way. Tampa Rejuvenation, with its closest of 4 clinics located on the south end of New Tampa at 14448 Bruce B Downs Blvd, separates themselves with their integrative approach to medicine. The physicians at Tampa Rejuvenation let their work and happy customer testimonials speak for themselves. Patient Nancy H. writes, “Tampa Rejuvenation helped me lose a very needed 30 pounds! My primary doctor was very impressed that I am now much healthier and no longer a diabetic risk. The HCG diet is healthy, safe and fast. The staff is great! They are all knowledgeable, courteous and helpful (the Doctor, the Nutritionist,

medical assistants, counselors, office administrators). They monitor everything from beginning to end and will help at any time. I have also now learned how to eat healthier. Between this and the diet, I will be keeping the weight off. I feel so much better, healthier and confident. It was one of the best things I've done!” The staff at Tampa Rejuvenation is detail-oriented and patient-specific in their treatment – it’s not cookie cutter medicine. The science is out there; the treatment is available; but finding the right physicians for you can make all the difference in the world. The physicians at Tampa Rejuvenation are unique – they left the modern tunnel-vision style of medicine behind. They understand that many times conventional medicine is designed by “BIG-PHARMA“ to relieve symptoms and sometimes only masks those symptoms to make them bearable. I don’t know about you, but I sure don’t want to settle for just bearable symptoms of anything. At Tampa Rejuvenation the physicians honed in their skills with only one goal in mind – to fix the problem, not hide it. While interview-

ing the founder of Tampa Rejuvenation, Brett Markowitz, the simple premise of going to sleep each night and feeling good about what his team was doing is clearly at the forefront of his business goals and morals. He and his staff are passionate about their patients and seeing improvements in their health. It’s clearly something they refuse to waiver from. Since each patient is different, with their expertise in this field of integrative medicine of anti-aging, the physicians not only focus on the lab

work, but they listen to symptoms and focus on their goals when designing a customized treatment plan using bio identical hormones and treating weight issues. The physicians at Tampa Rejuvenation focus more on quality than quantity; they want a patient committed to their health; not a patient that is just interested in taking a magic pill and has unrealistic expectations – that’s a fantasy. The reality is it has to be a complete change in lifestyle. That’s why the physicians at Tampa Rejuvena-

Team Farrell started with one focus – roofing. A roofing contractor, Steve Farrell had a strong work ethic and an even stronger commitment to have things done right and with his wife Tina at the helm, Farrell Roofing was founded in 2006. With the Farrells in charge of providing the type of stellar services that they’d want for themselves, the company quickly became successful, and their customers began requesting more services. In 2011, contractor Rich Allen joined Team Farrell with a focus on Farrell Home Services. More recently, Tom and Jill Persinger joined Team Farrell. The Persingers were first neighbors of the Farrells and then customers. Chatting one day, Tom mentioned wanting to do something with the blank canvas of his and Jill’s vast front yard. He had the right neighbor in Farrell! “I’ve got a team of people,” said Steve. With Team Farrell on the job, the Persinger’s yard now features a man-made pond, fountains, and a stone bridge perfect for hanging out with the neighbors! Jill and Tom both had career backgrounds that were a good fit for the services that the Farrell companies wanted to add. Jill is a Florida State University graduate with a degree in Marketing. After graduating, she immediately went to work in sales for a large commercial janitorial company.

Get Brand Name Gently Used Clothing at Once Upon A Child! With aisles upon aisles of name brand clothing, shoes, accessories, toys and baby equipment to choose from, Once Upon A Child provides affordability and quality to families throughout New Tampa and Wesley Chapel! Buying, selling and trading gently used and like-new retail for newborns to preteens (up to sizes 16-18), Once Upon A Child allows you the opportunity to recycle your children's nearly new items and get paid on the spot or trade them in for things you need now. Customer Sophia M. writes, “I am a mother to four young children and am in constantly need of something! Shopping at Once Upon a Child makes it easy for me to do all my shopping at half the price. The customer service is phenomenal, the prices are fair and the selection is constantly changing. The store is always clean and well organized. Once Upon a Child is a true asset to the community!” Known as Wesley Chapel Once Upon A Child, this location is actually situated just across the Wesley Chapel border in New Tampa behind Kobe Steakhouse in the Pebble Creek Collection shopping plaza at 19651 Bruce

B. Downs Blvd., making it more convenient than ever to stop on by! Before opening up their own location two years ago, Melissa and Brian Levering started off as customers; they came in to sell their son’s used clothes in preparation for their newest addition to the family – a beautiful baby girl. “I thought it was a great idea,” says Melissa, owner of the Wesley Chapel Once Upon A Child, “and definitely something necessary for the area. New Tampa is such a great community; there are so many families here and everyone is so family-oriented.” If you have kids, then you know just how expensive children’s apparel can be. Why spend all that money for something they are just going to grow out of in a few months? Especially, when at Once Upon A Child you can get many of the same name brand clothing and shoes at a fraction of the cost. Selling gently used and like-new quality items, for almost anything you buy here you won’t even be able to tell the difference that it is not brand

new – and neither will your child. Melissa says, “When you shop at Once Upon A Child you are getting top name brands for a significantly discounted price. All items are discounted up to 70% off retail prices! We carry a huge variety, including Gymboree, Carters, Justice, Abercrombie and Gap. And, the best part is you can shop for all of these name brands in one location, saving you time and hassle!” Looking through the aisles, I, myself, couldn’t even tell the difference – the clothes were of the same quality found in name brand stores. They only thing that was different was the price tag – a very inexpensive price tag, that is! Shoes are another huge topic to mention, especially since kids grow out of them almost as fast as you can buy them. Despite this, it is crazy to think about how much parents will spend on shoes for their children; shoes are not cheap, that is unless you shop at Once Upon A Child. “We get

really good shoes,” says Melissa. “Some of the best deals you will find in our store are our shoes. Quite often you will find $70 Nikes for only $17.” When bringing in gently used clothes to Once Upon A Child they will pay cash, and at a very fair price, I might add. “We buy all day every day, and for all seasons,” says Melissa. “There is no appointment necessary and we don’t limit what you can bring or how much you can bring in.” But, chances are if you are trading in clothes it is because your child has outgrown them, which means he or she will need clothes in bigger sizes. This brings me to your next option – trading in those clothes for store credit. This is great in that you get the full amount of your trade value and can use that store credit to get new clothes while avoiding having to pay sales tax. So, you get dollar for dollar on your next purchase! Melissa says, “We really want to promote buying from customers; we want your stuff!” The safety of traded in baby equipment is a huge priority at your neighborhood Once Upon A Child, and everything that is brought in is thoroughly checked to make sure all parts are accounted for and everything
