Hundreds Attended Child Adoption Education Day at Old McMicky’s Farm and a 17-Year Wait is Answered Ralph Zuckerman, owner of Old McMicky’s Farm in Odessa, wrote to Neighborhood News & Lifestyles to say thank you for help in publicizing the Child Adoption Education Day (CAED) held on June 13, and to let us know that the event was attended by 450 people! Zuckerman says, “We are all glad and proud to say that the Child Adoption Education Day was a huge success. All of the agencies and groups that participated are certain that this event will directly lead to finding more Forever Families for our local children in the foster care system.” Zuckerman adds that 610 people registered for the CAED event and that 1,400 people visited the CAED webpage. “Which means,” says Zuckerman, “Eckerd Community Alternatives will continue to receive contacts of interest after the event. From all of our research, this was the largest Child Adoption Education event in the nation. We also hope that the Child Adoption Education Day was able to play a small part to inspire and reinforce all of the great and dedicated

work done by all of the agencies and groups serving our community’s children.” Old McMicky’s Farm is putting together a video of the day’s highlights and we will let you know how to access it when available. We watched a short section featuring 17-year-old Jabari’s speech about his wait for a Forever Family, and consider it a heartwarming “must-see” video! Our team at Neighborhood News & Lifestyles fell in love with Jabari’s spirit. “I always knew there was some family out there looking for me,” Jabari said. “I’ve been patient; waiting for them to find me. And a couple of months ago they actually found me… and we’re doing good.” Jabari found his Forever Family at an Adoption Match Day that was held at Old McMicky’s Farm in April. Neighborhood News & Lifestyles will continue to bring you news about future child adoption information events. There is a great need locally for people willing to make a difference in the lives of foster children – from volunteers with Florida’s Guardian ad Litem pro-

Christmas in July Donation Drive – Help Bring Comfort and Joy to Hospitalized Kids Christmas in July is a month-long, community-wide fundraiser for St. Joseph’s Children's Hospital. St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital Foundation aids corporations, local businesses, civic organizations, and individuals in bringing some mid-year holiday cheer to the kids who need it most.

Share your Accomplishments On Fri., July 31, 7 a.m.-1 p.m., all of the community partners, sponsors, and donors will come together to celebrate their month-long fundraising efforts. Local media Magic 94.9 and Fox 13 will broadcast live as local businesses and individuals share in the joy of giving; patients have a special visit

4

from Santa, and volunteers help collect toy and monetary donations from community members.

What are they raising funds for? Health care settings are often stressful and frightening experiences for children and families. Providing recreation, developmental play, and play therapy gives kids strategies for coping and bring a momentary escape from their illness. It is through generous community support, and events like Christmas in July, that St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital is able to provide these services that dramatically alter a child’s hospital experience.

Camping World Opens Up A World of Travel and Exploring! By Kim Thomas When was the last time you heard the soul-stirring symphony of the deep woods, or looked into a night sky that reveals the Milky Way? There is nothing better for reviving one’s spirit than to get away from the hustle of everyday life and experience just how green the grass is over that “fence” and beyond into the vast beauty of parks and scenic lookouts that are American treasures. Camping and road tripping in recreational vehicles (RVs) have been favored in America for more than a century. The invention of the automobile prompted adventurous individuals to immediately think of ways to modify their cars to be used for camping. The first RV debuted at Madison Square Garden in 1910 and featured a back seat that folded into a bed, a chamber pot toilet and a sink that folded down from the back of the chauffeur’s seat. The luxuries of home-on-the-road in 1910 look far different than they do today! Some of the RVs at Camping World (located at 2112 US 19 North

10

in Holiday) are more like mobile luxury suites complete with sophisticated navigation systems, high-definition electronics, gas log fireplaces, luxurious cabinetry, leather seating, and even outdoor kitchens that will be the envy of the park! If you are like a lot of folks, though, you probably don’t live in a million dollar home, and you probably want a more affordable camper or RV – no worries! Camping World has a huge selection of campers, fifth wheels and recreational vehicles with price points for every customer. In fact, for just $99 a month, you can embark on many new adventures in a new Coleman camper, which can sleep six and is perfect for your getaway. Camping World in Holiday is hard to miss with its huge inventory of RVs, fifth wheels and campers spread over the acreage on US 19. Some of the major brands Camping World carries include: Thor Motorcoach, Itasca by Winnebago, Coleman Travel Trailers, Salem Travel Trailers, Cougar Travel Trailers and Fifth Wheels, Sandpiper Fifth Wheels, plus more. There also is a large inventory of top-quality

used RVs, campers and fifth wheels on the lot. In addition to RV sales, Camping World has a full service department that services and repairs all makes and models of RVs. The parts department and the accessory department are fully stocked with everything you need to keep your RV in perfect order, including plumbing and electrical supplies.

JULY 2015

The Camping World store is basically an RV and camping superstore with approximately 8,500 square feet stocked with everything you need to enjoy the RV and camping lifestyle. From portable stoves and generators to games for the kids and folding bicycles, Camping World has everything you could possibly need to have fun on the road and fully enjoy the beauti-

ful parks and destinations that Florida and all of America has to offer. You can even pick up some string lights to decorate your campsite! Many families are returning to their roots and taking their children camping, finding that the break from phones and video gaming is a blessing for the family unit. Plus, if you really want to experience the night sky at its most glorious, you have to get away from city lights. Campfire storytelling, hiking and biking are timeless activities that are wholesome, fun and truly recharge your batteries and can even help you build a better bond within your own family. If you feel nostalgic about your days of camping with your parents or grandparents, then you can bet your children or grandchildren will

feel the same when they are able to look back on their days of camping with you – and you can start making those memories right now. Camping World Hosts THOR Days July 24th & 25th, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. THOR Days are coming! Not only will Thor Motorcoach have manufacturing representatives onsite to answer questions about the fine-tuned motorhomes that Thor builds, but there will be free lunch too! The fun lasts all day on July 24th and 25th, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The cookout with free food and drinks will be held both days from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. THOR Days will offer the perfect opportunity to check out America’s number one brand of motorhomes.

East Lake Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

The Thor Motorcoach line includes the Freedom Elite, the Axis, the Ace and the Hurricane. When I visited Camping World, I toured several styles of RVS and there really is a great choice for every lifestyle. Of course, some were out of my league but one can dream! Some of the RVs are decked out creature comforts with big – yes big! – luxurious bathrooms and king size beds. Even the backsplash in the kitchen is high-end! But the more affordable RVs are amazing too and offer comfort and style. Camping World has financing available and maintains good relationships with numerous big-name lenders. Even better, Camping World representatives say that as long as your

RV or fifth wheel has a bathroom and a kitchen, you can consider it a second home and deduct the interest when you prepare your income taxes. Camping World’s Good Sam Club membership is $25, and can earn you discounts of up to 30 percent off of accessories at Camping World, as well as discounts on fuel at Flying J locations and discounts at Good Sam rated campgrounds. There are a lot of great reasons to explore the RV and camping life so visit Camping World in Holiday and start planning your next adventure! Streamline Your Business and Your Life with Bay Organizers By Julie Kanehl Bay Organizers is a completely personalized service that aims to organize, simplify and streamline your business, your life and even your home. Helping people increase productivity, organize complicated data into easy-touse programs, and creating an easy-access system for people who want to increase efficiency while decreasing stress and clutter in their lives, Bay Organizers is more than a service, it’s a lifesaver. Lindsay Hull has many titles, ranging from “Professional Organizer” and “Business Consultant” to “That girl who totally changed my life.” Lindsay’s professional background as a Database Administrator for a software company, coupled with her educational degrees in Computer Information Systems, Business, and Communications, gives her a unique set of skills that makes organizing businesses a breeze. Having access to the information that makes your business move forward is key, and Lindsay is skilled at creating that access, and working it into a work-

14

flow that can mean more money for you and your company. Data management and digital organization is just as important as paper files, which begs the question, “How organized are you?” How Organized Are You? Lindsay says, “I owned and operated a business for ten years that helped companies reduce overhead and save money by internally auditing expenses and cost centers. While working with business owners, we found that many of our clients didn’t have crucial business documents and important information at their fingertips that they really needed access to in order to be successful.” She adds, “I help business owners become more organized, whether it’s setting up a file structure in ‘the cloud,’ setting up QuickBooks, or helping businesses become more productive and effective. Commercial organization is what I have the most experience in. With my data background, I also can sync contacts, emails, and calendars across platforms and devices to simplify your daily life. Information access is crucial, and I can

give people access to the information they need at all times – no matter where they are.” Lindsay has worked with many local business owners who need to streamline their workflow, from home offices to corporate offices that have let their filing and data systems become cluttered or archaic. By organizing data, whether physically or digitally, she has singlehandedly changed the way these companies do business, and they wouldn’t go back for the world. Discreet and confidential, Lindsay can declutter everything from your Rolodex to your hard drive, your personal photos to your closet, and your desk to your pantry. In addition to organizing home and corporate offices in terms of workflow and space design, Lindsay often is recruited to help businesses in other ways. For example, a local assisted living facility recently hired Hull improve the design, workflow, and space usage in a very active and large Activity Center. When that project was complete, they asked her to design and implement a Gift Shop storage room organ-

Next, she’ll be working with their Dietary needs department Lindsay’s personal approach to each project also sets her apart. She creates a relationship with each client that is based on trust. She says, “I love helping people, and everyone has this need to be more organized.” She explains, “I help them to simplify and reduce

Bay Organizers transformed this cluttered craft room (left) into a beautiful, well-organized space (right) - now it is a crafter’s dream room! clutter. Doing this is great because it helps to provide mental clarity as well. When you open a closet and clutter falls out, it causes anxiety. I’m trying to get people to the point where they can walk into their home or office, and get started, with everything in the right place. When the workplace is organized, the work is better.” Is Your Clutter out of Control? Do you feel like you’re not ready

when a client unexpectedly asks for information? Are you lost when someone asks you for important documents? Do you feel like it would be easier to throw everything out and start over than to organize what you have? Believe it or not, Lindsay Hull can make sense of even the most neglected systems. A sequential thinker, Lindsay’s unique talent for creating systems and “seeing data” has helped countless people get organized in everything from

East Lake Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

their offices to their craft closets and their kitchens. She says, “Once I start working with a client, they tend to want me to do more! They’ll say, ‘here’s a box full of my business cards that I’d like accessible from my Mac, my PC and my phone.’ Or ‘I have ten years of published articles in a giant box, please scan, capture all metadata, and upload to my website.’ It’s all very personalized.” What do you do with all of your pictures? While we used to print them all out and put them in albums, many of us simply have them saved on a variety of electronic cameras and smart phones. What do we do with them after that in order to preserve them? One of Lindsay’s many fortes is collecting photos and videos from a variety of sources and saving them in a way that makes sense for you. From putting everything on a removable hard drive to placing them in “the cloud” where they can be enjoyed from anywhere while being password protected, Lindsay makes family photos something to enjoy and preserve once again. Lindsay’s attention to detail and commitment to project completion makes her an asset to anyone who could use help with organizing their life

at work and/or at home. Her flexibility and personalized organization skills enable her to tackle organization problems both large scale, such as a corporation’s workflow, but she can help you at home as well, organizing closets, kitchens and she even has been hired to unpack and set up people’s homes. Hiring Lindsay is an investment that can make a world of difference in your everyday life. She has a sense of humor, too, quipping, “One client said my services were far cheaper than marital counseling!” Hiring her is as simple as having a meeting to discuss your specific project needs, your budget, and your desired outcome. Always working with your busy schedule and communicating throughout the duration, Lindsay is a fantastic resource! Your local Palm Harbor AAA has some recommendations for drivers to help keep our roads safer, School starts back on August 24, but with summertime out come the bicycles and skateboards, and the following reminders truly apply every day. Slow Down – Please abide by the

East Lake Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

speed limit signs! This is especially important during school hours when you are in a school zone. Pedestrians are two-thirds less likely to be killed by a vehicle traveling at 25 mph versus 35 mph. Come to a Complete Stop – Check carefully (both ways) for crossing pedestrians and bicyclists. Research shows that one-third of drivers roll through stop signs in school zones! Eliminate Distractions – Put down the phone! Forget about the food. Leave the radio be, and watch the road! Just taking your eyes off the road for two seconds doubles your chances of crashing. Oftentimes, kids emerge unexpectedly on the crosswalk and it is the driver’s responsibility to be alert. Reverse Responsibly – Remember to check all of your blind spots for children and pedestrians when reversing. Teach your children to never walk too closely behind a parked vehicle, never to play near or under a vehicle, and to never assume someone sees them. Watch for Bicycles – Children riding bikes are oftentimes unsteady and unpredictable. Please remember to slow down and give bicyclists at least three feet of passing distance between

your car and their bike. If your child is riding, remember to always get a proper fitting helmet! Talk to your Teen – The leading cause of death in teens is automobile accidents. Nearly one in four fatal crashes involve teen drivers during after school hours (3 p.m. to 7 p.m.). Find teen driving guidance and tips at TeenDriving.AAA.com. AAA of Palm Harbor has all of the back to school safety guidelines you need to prepare yourself and your children for pedestrian safety and awareness. In addition to the wealth of information available through AAA’s Drive Carefully campaign; the AAA Palm Harbor office has a full range of insurance packages to protect you and your family. AAA’s longstanding motto is “Expect Something More” and with AAA of Palm Harbor’s experienced staff and abundance of information, you can bet you’ll always receive the best. AAA of Palm Harbor is located at 32050 U.S. Highway 19 N and is open Mon. – Fri., 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Call (727) 789-7850 or log on to www.aaa.com/palmharbor for more information.

Adding Value and Comfort to Your Home with Custom Designed Furniture Custom furniture may sound expensive, but with today’s technology and computerized woodworking equipment that is no longer the case. Personalized furniture is now available at very affordable prices and offered in a wide array of attractive colors and finishes. Home organization has benefited greatly from this trend. Custom closets are quickly becoming a standard option for homeowners. Improving the storage and organization in a closet can add as much as three times the usual capacity of the old standard rail and shelf. Beyond the benefits of extra storage, custom closets look great and can add value to the home. Additional benefits include finding clothing or accessory items faster, enough space to keep clothes neatly pressed instead of crushed and the additional room to add new clothes. With the high cost of construction utilizing the benefits of a wall

garage. Utility rooms including laundry rooms and pantries can all be made to accommodate more. Today new homes feature many of these as standard options and if they were not included, become some of the first purchases by the new homeowner. Remodeled homes are also benefiting since many of these “must have” conveniences can be great additions and provide more space, particularly if the home is a downsizing project. In the Tampa bay area a good place to see examples of these great ideas is the More Space Place. They have two showrooms conveniently located in Palm Harbor and St. Petersburg. At their showrooms skilled space designers can help turn custom concepts into realty. With 3-D design software the concept layout can be seen before it is purchased and installed by More Space Place’s profes-

sional installers. If the preference is for a free in home consultations you can call (727) 580-0405 or (813) 6541551. For the locations of the showrooms or for additional information you can check out their website www.morespaceplace.com.

“Albert” Continued from page 1 that are really what the clients are paying for. I feel strongly that my personal attention and high standard of quality care is what has made my practice successful and so highly reviewed by our patients.” Dr. Albert is a specialist in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and has had a private practice since 2003. A graduate of East Lake High School who then earned his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from The University of Florida, Dr. Albert was honored by the University of Florida as an Outstanding Young Alumni, for his contributions to his profession and community in 2010. What’s more, Dr. Albert recently completed his term as President of the Florida Association of Orthodontics! He is a member of more dental associations than we have room to mention here, but what’s important to know is that Dr. Albert is on the cutting edge of the newest technology while staying educated on the latest techniques. It’s not just the patients who are happy, but their parents and families as well. With affordable treatment

plans, a variety of finance options to fit every budget, and appointment times that work around busy family schedules, Albert Family Orthodontics is hard to beat! The Dampier family has three daughters receiving treatment at Albert Family Orthodontics, and said, “The girls had minimal discomfort after orthodontic adjustments. Our appointments ran right on schedule without long waits to be seen. Also, Dr. Albert always gave us parents an update personally on our daughters’ progress during treatment. Our experience in his office has been none less than extraordinary and we recommend that you go for an orthodontic consultation here and see for yourself.” Who Knew that Orthodontics was this Much Fun? I may be dating myself here, but when I was a kid, going to the orthodontist was not this much fun! At Albert Family Orthodontics, the waiting room is filled with big screen TVs, free WiFi access, video games and even a coffee and snack bar. It’s awesome. Making People Smile, Near & Far Dr. Albert is one of those rare human beings who is both involved in everything and completely humble about it at the same time. Obviously a doctor with heart, Dr. Albert was inspired by his church’s mission to help people in a remote part of Haiti. Cypress Meadows Community Church in Safety Harbor is trying to really help those people who don’t have access to basic things that we take for granted. Dr. Albert said, “This year I brought three other dental professionals with me. It’s a six-hour ride on dirt paths; it’s an eye-opening off-road experience to help people who need it.” Adding, “If we aren’t there helping, no one is.” Treating 160 patients and pulling 130 teeth, Dr. Jeremy Albert, Dr. Mark Mitchell, Dr. Matt Burton and Dr. T.J. Albert worked together to relieve pain in patients caused by dental issues. Dr. Albert explains, “We try to

save the teeth that we can, but sometimes in remote areas of the world, pulling diseased teeth is the definitive answer to the pain they’re going through.” Dr. Albert plans to return every February and bring as much help as he can. It’s this commitment to his patients, his local community, and the world beyond that makes Dr. Jeremy Albert a local treasure, and that’s a quite a lot to smile about! Albert Family Orthodontics is located at Trinity Professional Place, 1806 Short Branch Drive, Suite #102 in Trinity, and in Palm Harbor at 2445 Tampa Road, Suite A. Both locations are open Mon. – Fri., 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. The offices can be reached at (727) 376-2770 (Trinity) and (727) 781- 7475 (Palm Harbor) or log on to albertfamilyortho.com for more information.
