Honorees Inducted included: Coach/Administrator Jerry English (19762003); Lt. Col. Rhett Hierlmeier (1995); Dianne McClendon (1980); Phil Teston (1978); and the 2003 State Championship girls’ soccer team coached by Vicki King. young is on a mission to become the oldest World Heavyweight Champion in boxing history, replacing Hall of Famer George Foreman. Tarver spoke of his desire to share the role boxing played as an at-risk youth growing up in Orlando, Florida, his feature part in the film Rocky Balboa, and his current role as a color commentator in boxing for Spike TV. The inductees and retired coach and athletic director Jerry English each reflected on their high school sports experiences and how much impact it had on their lives. “I might have had a bad moment, or a bad hour, but I never had a bad day,” said English, who boasts nearly 3000 Facebook friends. Lifetime Achievement award winner Lt. Col. Rhett Hierlmeier, who was featured on the January 2016 cover of Popular Science with the title “Last Fighter Pilot,” currently instructs the trainers who train Air Force fighter pilots. He flew in from his California home to attend the event. All the inductees shared memories of

teammates, teachers, coaches, and some of the “character- building” opportunities that Land O’ Lakes High School provided. The Foundation was established by local businessmen and Land O’ Lakes High School alumni, John Childers and Jerry Brewster, as a way to honor former athletes and help provide financial support for Land O’ Lakes High School athletic programs. As a tribute to their achievement, a Hall of Fame wall has been designated inside the commons area for the display of the Hall of Fame plaques.

Whole Foods Market “America’s Healthiest Grocery Store” By Alexis Selby A Mecca for all things healthrelated, Whole Foods Market is so much more than your average grocery store! They are your one-stop shop for all your grocery and household needs! From gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options to Non-GMO Project verified, organic, kosher and halal certified items, Whole Foods Market combines concepts of a farmer’s market, a gourmet market, an old-fashioned grocer, a custom-cuts butcher, a knowledgeable fishmonger, a scratch baker and a team of chefs making freshly prepared take-out meals – all under one roof. Originally founded in Austin, Texas, when four local businesspeople decided the natural foods industry was ready for a supermarket format, the original Whole Foods Market opened in 1980 with a staff of only 19 people. It was an immediate success. Growing by leaps and bounds, in the past 36 years Whole Foods Market is now the world’s largest supermarket for natural and organic foods. Yet, despite their size they have never strayed from their core values and beliefs, and they continue to maintain the spirit and principles of the company’s original heart and soul. Widely known as America’s healthiest grocery store, in addition to having an unshakeable commitment to sustainable agriculture, Whole Foods Market seeks out the finest natural and organic foods available, while maintaining the strictest quality standards in the industry. They are a destination for many people with

14

special dietary needs, devoting more space to those offerings than most conventional supermarkets and carry thousands of products from both small, artisanal producers and larger brands – all of which meet their strict quality standards. They believe that food in its purest state —without artificial flavorings, sweeteners, hydrogenated fats, colorings and preservatives — is the best tasting and most nutritious food available, which is why you will never find any of those ingredients at Whole Foods Market! They also offer a wide range of options when it comes to price – from their affordable 365 Everyday Value® line to specialty gourmet items. Your Community; Your Whole Foods Market Another thing that makes Whole Foods Market so great, is that even though they have locations throughout the world, each store is unique to the community in which it serves; our local Whole Foods being the store located at 3802 Northdale Blvd in Tampa. True believers in supporting local - from local products, community partners and community organizations - even as Whole Foods Market has grown significantly over the years, they maintain support for programs like the Whole Trade Guarantee, Local Producer Loan Program, and Global Team Member Volunteer Day, and continue to raise funds for their Whole Kids Foundation for salad bars in schools, their Whole Planet Foundation’s prosperity campaign, and five Percent Days. These are all examples of business practices that

support Whole Foods Market’s commitment to their core values and belief in the importance of giving back to the community. 5% Days at Whole Foods Market On designated days throughout the year, a total of 5% of the day’s net sales are donated to a local non-profit organization. This allows customers to help support their selected organizations just by shopping on these 5% Days. Most recently, Whole Foods donated to the David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts. Whole Foods Market is a Brand With a Soul! With their core values keeping them focused on their mission of providing the highest quality natural and organic products available, Whole Foods Market does an exceptional job in satisfying their customers’ lifestyle needs, from their high quality natural and organic foods to their selection of ethically traded and environmentally sustainable items. Most notable is their commitment to the environment and

their Green Mission: to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Donate Your Dime Program In an effort to encourage recycling, Whole Foods Markets gives 10 cents per bag to customers who reuse their own shopping bags for their purchased groceries. Not only does this program reduce our impact on the environment, but it also supports local non-profit groups. Customers have the choice to accept their cash refund, or donate the cash back to the store’s chosen non-profit organization, or to the Whole Planet Foundation. One local non-profit is chosen each quarter to receive the Donate Your Dime option; currently Bob Sierra Family YMCA is the chosen recipient. Exceptional Customer Service The knowledgeable Team Members at Whole Foods goes to great lengths to satisfy and delight their shoppers. They are highly trained in customer service and their product offerings to provide the best shopping experience. Team Members do not simply direct inquiring customers to

In addition, Team Members can let customers sample a product before they buy. “Our team members are our secret ingredients,” writes Marketing Field Associate Lea Mewa. “It’s all about our customer service! Lion Fish Filleting and Sampling at Whole Foods July 2 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Watch a live filleting and learn about this invasive species that is severely threatening local marine life. Sample this white flaky fish, similar to grouper and snapper, prepared with a special recipe you can take and prepare at home. Whole Foods Market only sells seafood that’s certified sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council or rated green or yellow by the Monterey Bay Aquarium, so once Lionfish earned a green rating, Whole Foods Market was so excited to offer shoppers a new, delicious species that also improves this serious environmental problem.

Lionfish reproduce at really high rates, and without predators to deter them, the populations only continue to grow. A female starts releasing egg sacs after she is one year old. She will live to be around 18 years old, and will release TWO MILLION EGGS EVERY YEAR. The male fertilizes the sacs, and they float around in a toxic goo that protects them from being eaten until they grow into small fish. When it comes to species like Lionfish that are invasive, Whole Foods Market is thrilled to be part of the solution to protecting our waterways and all the species that live there – all while providing a really interesting, delicious option for shoppers. Whether you just need to pick up a few things or are looking to restock your entire kitchen, come on down to your local Whole Foods Market and experience the true difference of a quality health food store! Your Local Whole Foods Market is located at 3802 Northdale Blvd in Tampa. They are open Mon. - Sun. 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. and can be reached at (813) 2643600. Pacific Curbing, The Versatile, Durable, Beautiful & Economical Way to Add Curb Appeal! By Marcy Sanford If you’re looking to upgrade your home or business’ curb appeal easily, efficiently, and, most important, beautifully, give Pacific Curbing a call. They are the leading decorative concrete curbing specialist for Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco Counties. Decorative Concrete is a great way to update your yard’s appeal while protecting your landscaping investment. Because decorative concrete is versatile, durable, beautiful, and economical, it has become the top choice in borders for many home and business owners. Versatile: You don’t have to worry about trying to make bricks fit or trying to bend plastic. If you want curves, Pacific Curbing can give you curves. If you want straight lines, they can easily do that as well. Pacific Curbing will adjust the border to whatever shape or size you want. The experts at Pacific Curbing can shape a border to contain any area, can stain it in any

color you want, and have a wide variety of looks, stamps, and designs to match any home’s décor. “We live here in the community,” says Ms. Long, who has years of experience helping Pacific Curbing’s customers find the borders that perfectly complement their homes. “We are able to service area homes very quickly and can help our clients determine the style of border that will work best for their home and yard.” Pacific Curbing has installed decorative concrete curbing for many HOAs throughout the area including Long Lake Ranch, Trinity Preserve, Ballantrae, Live Oaks, and Ivy Lakes. “We work hand in hand with the HOAs,” says Ms. Long. “We have developed custom colors for many neighborhoods and know the rules and regulations for each community. We know what paperwork needs to be filled out and will help homeowners navigate the rules of their HOA.” Beautiful: Pacific Curbing has a wide variety or patterns and stamps to

Mat and the Slatestone Mat, both of which can be made to look like real stone. The Belgium Block Mat and Slatestone Mat also are one inch higher than the rest of the borders. Stamped borders are made by stamp-

ing deep impressions in the concrete, which works very well for homeowners looking for a more symmetrical border. Stamped borders can be made to look just like brick. Rollers create a more natural looking border and can be used to make the border look like wood or slate. With Pacific Curbing the possibilities are endless. Pacific Curbing also can create a wide variety of colors for you. From calm greys to natural browns, elegant reds to traditional buffs, Pacific Curbing can help you create a look to enhance your house, business, and landscaping. With the beautiful color options at Pacific Curbing, you’re sure to find a color to match your home’s exterior or add a beautiful contrast to your existing color scheme. Durable & Economical: Another bonus to concrete curbing is its durability, which is much stronger than traditional borders. “Concrete curbing will not move around like bricks do; it will not rot like wood

does; and it won’t break like plastic will,” says Ms. Long. “Once we have installed concrete curbing for you, it will last for at least seven years. When it starts to fade a bit, a simple reseal is all that is needed to bring back the original color.” Pacific Curbing also installs curbing and borders for Commercial businesses and frontages for many communities. They can create a unique and beautiful look for your entrance. GCS Driving Academy: Parents Say This Is The Best Thing They’ve Ever Done By Marcy Sanford “Most teenage drivers are short on experience and long on confidence, which makes for a potentially dangerous combination,” says GCS Driving Academy’s Professional Driving Coach, George Csanadi. “As a parent there is not question that a driving education is one of the best things you can give your teenager.” GCS Driving Academy Owner and Coach George Csanadi has more than 20 years of experience as a performance driving coach, teaching skills to drivers who own high performance and exotic vehicles. After many years of experience as a racecar driver, coach, and instructor, he founded GCS Driving Academy. Originally, the majority of his clientele included those who wanted to learn how to race cars professionally, including a 15-year-old Danica Patrick back in 1996. In 2011,

20

George added teen driver training to GCS Driving Academy’s services. That first year, he coached 7 teenagers on how to navigate busy Tampa Bay roadways and interstates. Happy parents started sharing their experiences with GCS with friends, and every year since it started, GCS Driving Academy’s teen driver training program has grown exponentially. Now, George Csanadi has successfully coached 350 teen drivers. George says the reason for the growth of the teen driving portion of GCS is that parents absolutely love the coaching and common sense road etiquette that he provides. “Parents say this is absolutely the best thing they’ve done. Most parents say they wish they had called me sooner.” George Csanadi’s experience on the racetrack gives him an undeniable edge when it comes to anticipating what other drivers are going to do,

Patrick's mom Donna learned how to better teach her son just by riding along and listening to George's coaching. and this is one of the skills that he tries to teach students. George says, “I am anticipating what other drivers are going to do, not reacting to what they do. That is the value in what I teach. I am not a driving instructor. I am a driving coach. The scenarios that I teach kids to handle will never come up with a driving instructor.” The driving conditions that teens face today are much different from the

JULY 2016

ones we encountered when we were first learning to drive. There is more traffic, more angry drivers, and more hazards everywhere they go. Driving a few hours around the neighborhood or on an errand back and forth to Publix will not prepare your teen driver for the obstacles and distractions they’ll face when they get behind the wheel. “These kids are having to get out

Teagan's parents say driving lessons with GCS Driving Academy is the best gift they've ever given their daughter on highways going 70 miles per hour,” says George. “And I’ve had parents say that they’d pay me anything when they see how I can teach their child to safely pass a semi-tractortrailer on the interstate.” George encourages parents to be involved. “Parents ride along 95% of the time. They ask, ‘do I need to be there?’ and I say absolutely! There is more coaching that is needed by the parent, so their participation is crucial.

Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

Kids are supposed to have 50 hours of driving experience to get their license and they may give me ten, so who is going to teach them the other 40 hours? It is going to have to be the parent. And parents tell me all the time that they learn something when they ride with us.” He points out that hours of driving time should be varied. “I’ve had parents who say they’ve worked with their kids for 20 hours and they come here and don’t even know how to back out of the driveway!” Teenagers need to be coached to handle all types of roadways and to handle many driving scenarios. George adds, “GCS Driving Academy isn’t for everyone, but those parents who choose it justify the expense.” Parents spend money on dance and music lessons, sports training and special coaching to enrich their children’s lives, so it makes complete sense to spend money on coaching that can actually save their lives. GCS Driving Academy is money well spent according to parents who have used George to coach their children on driving. “We honestly believe this is the best gift we have ever given our daughter. We can’t thank you enough

for your expertise, patience, and professionalism,” said parents Mike and Julie Byrnes. “She is more confident, as are we, and she is even teaching us a thing or two. We would highly recommend your teen driver training to any parent of a new driver. The exposure to driving on all of the major highways and interstates is priceless. You support and confidence has provided the awareness and skills necessary for Teagan to continue to be a safe driver. “It is amazing that I have been driving for 30 years yet I did not have the ability to teach my own son to drive until you showed us what to pay attention to. After our week of lessons, I took Patrick driving every day for 2 hours,” says GCS Driving Academy client and mother Donna Hoben. “I used the techniques that you had showed him and practiced with cones and boxes in various places around the city. I wouldn’t let anyone else take Patrick to practice driving because I wanted to make sure he was correctly doing all the things you showed him . . . and I wanted to make sure he was not falling into bad driving habits that others may show him. . . The lessons were definitely worth any amount of money.”

“You took Austin’s abilities and his confidence to an unfathomable level. If someone had told me after just 10 hours of driving, that my son would be driving around the airport area, on the expressways, through downtown, and over the bridges to Pinellas County, up to Brooksville and all around town, I would not have believed it,” says GCS Client and mother Laurel Slade. “I believe your services are worth the money beyond what words can express. . . an investment in Austin’s safety, which he will carry with him throughout the rest of his life. Thank you seems so trite, but thank you. I truly believe that what Austin has learned from you (things I didn’t even know myself) will save his life.” The driving techniques and skills that your child learns now will protect him or her for a lifetime. George Csanadi has the skills and talent to coach your teen driver. GCS Teen Driver Training has a very informative website, www.gcsdrivingacademy.com. The Journey To Put Lutz Baseball Back On The Map! Whenever the Lutz Baseball families travel to parks outside of the area to represent Lutz, they always see puzzled faces, experience the mispronunciation of Lutz (L-utz), and the question “where is Lutz” is almost always inevitable. The Lutz Baseball 9U All-Star team worked very hard to change all of that. It all started with the 9U All Star District 13 Championship in Fishhawk on June 10 through13. The Lutz 9U Boys won all of their games. Wins were against North Brandon (20-10), East Bay (14-4), and Citrus Park (28-2). The boys met Citrus Park again and sealed the championship with a 6-0 win. Their performance earned them the opportunity to represent District 13 in the Cal Ripken Southern Florida Division Tournament in Okeeheelee (just outside of West Palm Beach) on June 23

through 26. The double elimination State Tournament in Okeeheelee started off with a subpar game from the Lutz Boys against a solid host Okeeheelee team. The Lutz Boys came out a little flat. Final score Okeeheelee 12, Lutz 8. This put the Lutz Boys Baseball team on the ropes and fighting for survival. One more loss and they were going home. Rather than give up, these boys showed heart and determina-

This set up a game against the strong Palm Beach Gardens team. The boys fought hard, but the well-rested Palm Beach Gardens team handed the Lutz boys a defeat. These young 9U All Stars from Lutz

finished in second place in the State Tournament and earned a spot (should they want to advance) to the Regional Championship in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. Due to these boys performance, a few more folks now know where Lutz is located and how to pronounce it. Kudos to this group of young men, the coaches, and their families that are behind them 100 percent.

“Dr. Albert” Continued from page 1 and joy. Payment plan was affordable and within our budget.” Dr. Jeremy Albert, DMD, MS, a specialist in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, has had a private practice since 2003. Dr. Albert, an East Lake High School Alum, earned his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from The University of Florida. Dr. Albert has been honored with numerous awards and he is a member of several dental associations. Parents and patients can feel confident that Dr. Albert provides the most current, effective orthodontic treatments. The heart of Dr. Albert’s practice though, is Dr. Albert himself. His caring personality is upbeat while sincere, and he treats people who come into his offices like you treat friends coming into your home. Dr. Albert is the sole orthodontist in the practice, so parents and patients know they will see the same doctor every time. Dr. Albert really makes a good impression on his patients, and not the kind that requires a tray!

Annually Dr. Albert holds “Make the Change” and “Helping Local Schools” contests. This past year Cypress Woods Elementary received $1,000, and Highland Lakes and Ozona Elementary each received $250 from Albert Family Orthodontics Hip Hip Hooray! No Impression Trays! One of the most recent advancements in orthodontic treatments is the use of the iTero intraoral scanner. Dr. Albert is one of the few orthodontists in the area that uses the wand to scan a patient’s mouth instead of using trays to create impressions. This device makes for a more comfortable experience for all patients, but it is an especially important advancement for people who suffer from a gag reflex. The scanner is used for appliances, expanders, Invisalign® and for diagnostics. Patients can see the digital scan of their teeth and how their bite

The iTero intraoral scanner even shows patients a simulated outcome of what their alignment will look like after they have finished their treatment plan. Dr. Albert says, “It is possible to go through the whole treatment without needing impressions. We can digitally send the scans to the to lab instead of sending impressions through the mail, which makes the process quicker. The scans can also be used to create 3D printed Vivera® retainers, which provides four total retainers for the patients.”

Along with a low initial down payment, Albert Family Orthodontics offers no-interest, in-house financing. Not sure at what age children should be evaluated? The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that the initial orthodontic evaluation should occur at the first sign of orthodontic problems or no later than age 7. At this early age,

Paying it Forward, Locally & Globally! When you visit Albert Family Orthodontics’ Facebook page, or talk to their clients they are sure to mention the numerous contests Dr. Albert offers. Since orthodontic treatment is a long-term commitment for preteens and teenagers, the contests keep patients excited and engaged in the process. Currently there is a Summer of Music and Smiles Summer Concert Series, where one patient will win four tickets to see Def Leppard and REO Speedwagon on August 15th and one person will win four tickets to see Brad Paisley on August 12th. Multiple winners will win iTunes gift cards every month. Recently, ten patients won $50 Fandango movie gift cards, and all patients are invited to Albert Family Orthodontics’ yearly AstroSkate party. Jamie Scura, who is inspired by Dr. Albert to become an orthodontist herself one day says, “I like how Albert Family Orthodontics does contests for concerts and other things.

They are all very nice there.” Jamie’s mom, Andrea Scura, owner of Aqua Shark Pool Care in Trinity agrees, “Dr. Albert and his staff are the best. They are always able to accommodate our urgent repair calls. They are doing an amazing job on my daughter’s teeth!” Albert Family Orthodontics is a private practice, so Dr. Albert has a vested interest in the community where serves and lives. He gives back both locally and abroad. He provides opportunities for his patient base to improve the lives of others through charities such as Toys for Tots and shoe drives for children in impoverished countries where Dr. Albert provides dental work for patients in need. In 2014 and 2015, Dr. Albert served families in Haiti on dental mission trips with Cypress Meadows Community Church (CMCC) of Safety Harbor under the direction of Pastor Douglas Poole. The opportunity to help others is inspiring to Dr. Albert, who is planning a dental mission trip with CMCC to Kenya in June 2017. He says, “It is definitely happening, and we are going to be gathering shoes and clothing for the orphans in our church’s orphanage there. We will go back again to Haiti at some point as well.” The families

that Dr. Albert is able to help on these dental mission trips live in remote areas that would not have dental services provided without the help of dentists volunteering their time. An annual babysitting certification program through Red Cross is provided free of charge for patients. Completion of the program includes certification in CPR and first aide, and this knowledge can help patients create their own positive impact in the community. Patients can also help their school earn money by voting for their school in Dr. Albert’s yearly “Making a Change & Helping Local Schools” campaign. The top three voted schools are put in a drawing for a first place $1,000 donation, and a second and third place donation of $250. Last year, Highland Lakes and Ozona Elementary received $250, and Cypress Woods Elementary received the first place $1,000 donation! Personalized care in a friendly environment makes Albert Family Orthodontics a place where patients of all ages feel comfortable. Advanced technology such as the iTero intraoral scanner and Dr. Albert’s stellar credentials, allow patients to feel secure they are receiving the very best orthodontic treatment options. If you want to improve your smile, contact one of Albert Family Orthodontics’ offices for an orthodontic consultation.
