Arry’s Roofing Services Inc. By Marcy Sanford Brothers Matthew and Stephen Housh grew up at Arry’s Roofing Services Inc.; their mother and father started the successful roofing company 25 years ago. The brothers understand that while they and their family think and talk about roofing every day, for most people, the topic of roof replacements or roof repairs can be stressful and is often a substantial investment. Matthew says, “We are coming into someone’s home so we always want to make sure that we are treating them and their home with the utmost respect. Our passion is to always be the best we can be and to focus on our

customers.” In addition to focusing on their customers, the skilled roofers and contractors at Arry’s Roofing bring a wealth of knowledge to each roofing project. “We are constantly staying on top of the latest trends and technology so that we can bring the most experience and knowledge to our roofing jobs,” says Stephen. “At Arry’s, we have many commercial customers in addition to our residential ones. This means we are able to bring all of our experience and expertise to every customer no matter the size of the project – from replacing an entire roof to repairing a small section.” It’s this experience and knowl-

Annual HCSO Fishing Tournament is a Huge Success! Raising $17,500 for the Judeo Christian Health Clinic, the Annual HCSO Fishing Tournament, held on June 21 in our very own beautiful Tampa Bay, was a great success, and anglers from all over the Bay came together to do what they love best – fish! Spending a beautiful day on the water, anglers baited their hooks and hoped to catch the big one – a prized tagged fish worth $25,000. Although the tagged fish was never found and swims on uncaught, there were many other great prizes awarded that day to anglers who caught the biggest fish of the three tournament species –Snook, Redfish and Trout.

Winners are as follows:

Snook Category 1st Billy Alstrom 38 3/4 in 2nd Tom Stringfield 38 1/4 in 3rd Grabiel Himbera 37 1/2 in

Redfish Category 1st Matt Yaquinto 48 in, 2nd R.J. Brown 44 in, 3rd Chad Wiggins 33 in

Trout Category 1st Phil Bauman 25 in, 2nd Nancy Bauman 23 3/4 in 3rd Steve Robinson 23 1/2 in

Slam, Winner The Slam Winner, awarded to the team with the longest combined total length of all three fish, was proudly won by Team Hot Pass, whose Snook, Redfish and Trout measured in with a combined total of 88 1/2 inches – wow! There were also awards given to the single fish category, for anglers who caught the longest fish in each of the three categories.

After returning from the water, anglers enjoyed a delicious dinner and some exceptional raffle giveaways, including a brand new boat! All in all, this tournament was so much fun, and although The Neighborhood News & Lifestyles Fishing Team didn’t catch the biggest fish we sure did enjoy our time on the water. Watch out anglers, next year we are coming for the win!!

Meet Your Florida Hospital Physician Group! rehab/detox facility outside of Philadelphia in his early years and for the past ten years, he has been a medical volunteer at Crudem Hospital in Milot, Haiti. Yes, he was right there in the thick of the volunteer activities launched after the devastating Haitian earthquake in 2010.

By Pam Sica Mind, body and spirit focused, Florida Hospital (formerly UCH) created a group of physicians for our community offering strong primary care, as well as specialties in Internal Medicine, Ear, Nose and Throat, Infectious Disease and Family Medicine. Currently seven in number and growing, these physicians have hospital privileges at Florida Hospital Carrollwood. Because they are part of the faith-based Florida Hospital system, known to be the largest not for profit health system, with a long-standing history in Florida, the Florida Hospital Physician Group is also able to access the resources of four other locations in nearby Wesley Chapel, Zephyrhills, N. Pinellas and Tampa (on Fletcher Avenue) in the West region when necessary. Jennifer Candler, Director of Marketing and Public Relations at Florida Hospital Carrollwood put things in perspective for me by noting that there are currently 23 affiliated hospitals within the state of Florida and 43 nationwide. The Long Term Acute Care Center located in Connerton is also included in the mix. That’s impressive! What does all that mean for the Florida Hospital Physician’s Group? With their ongoing administrative support, insurance issues and staffing concerns managed by the well-versed Florida Hospital administrative staff, the doctors are better able to concentrate on practicing medicine and focusing on your care. The primary goal is to help you and your family to achieve wellness! Being affiliated with Florida Hospital Carrollwood also offers both patient and doctor access to the coordinating and facilitating activities, as well as the patient advocacy provided by the In-house Hospitalist

Whether you are out having a fun family day, enjoying a night out with friends, or going on a casual date with your significant other, Tropicana Field provides the perfect backdrop for a great experience and a whole lot of fun! And, with new cheaper pricing, including tickets starting at only $10, the Rays have made it more affordable than ever for you to watch your team live and in person. New this season, the Rays began offering Flex Packs, which gave fans the opportunity to pre-pay for 3, 6, or 9 games ahead of time, at an even better discounted price, and pick any of the games they would like to see for the season. They also offer discounts on group tickets and other great packages. The Rays certainly don’t hold back when it comes to giving back to the fans. Widely know for their fan giveaways, the Rays are always finding unique ways to thank their fans and give incentives for those who show up early to the games by giving away freebies for the first 10,000 fans that walk

Tampa Bay Rays – The Best of the Best! Boasting one of the best records in the league – including making the playoffs four times in the past six years – you have more reasons than ever to come watch the Rays play. In fact, the Rays have won more games since 2008 than any other team in the league, with the exception of the Yankees – who have won just a handful more, despite an astronomical $900million spending gap between the two teams. In addition, they have accomplished five 90-win seasons in the past six years, which is more than any other team in the MLB, and quite possibly in the entire sport. So, when you go watch your home team on the Tropicana Field, you truly are watching one of the best teams in the Nation!

Mentors, teachers, and “heroes”, the Rays organization provides much more than just athleticism and entertainment – they are community impact leaders who actively strive to make a lasting difference in the Tampa Bay area. Taking a hands-on approach to supporting the community, in addition to the Rays Baseball Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization that raises money to help support youth education development programming, the players and their wives, as well as many of the corporate employees, dedicate their time to helping individuals, families and organizations in the

That

Belvedere Commons of Tampa – The Choice for Senior Living By Alexis Selby Placing a family member or loved one in an assisted living community is a life changing decision, and when faced with making the critical choice as to what is best for them, it is important to know that you have somewhere to turn. At Belvedere Commons of Tampa, you can rest assured knowing that your loved one will be treated with compassion, love and quality care in a positive, nurturing environment. Specifically focusing on the care of those living with Alzheimer's Disease and related memory loss disorders, the Belvedere Commons staff goes above and beyond to ensure residents are made to feel comfortable, and help to promote an easy transition by actively seeking to build lasting relationships with both the residents and their families. Executive Director Ruth Anne Ristow says, “It’s hard for any older adult to move into a community after living on their own for so many

From day one, the staff is extremely caring and goes the extra mile in helping to make the transition as easy as possible.” At Belvedere Commons, a plan of care is developed in partnership with family members and geared toward the individual needs of the resident. From day respite to short-term stays to permanent long-term residence, the staff will gladly accommodate you and your loved one.

She engages the residents daily in the many activities that Belvedere Commons has to offer and helps to improve their lives through positive interactions and meaningful friendships. Helga says, “Many older adults love music – that is something they never forget – so we look for opportunities through out the day to listen to music and sing.” Each day is started off with some form of exercise and through out the day a variety of programs are offered to provide the right level of stimulation and opportunities for success and joy. Schooling You on Healthy Eating Basics It’s that season: kids are headed back-to-school and parents are resuming their routines after a summer of fun. Although your schedule may be changing, it’s important to remember you don’t have to sacrifice healthy living while getting back in the groove. A balanced diet helps keep up peak performance mentally and physically throughout the day, making it an important habit to maintain. Follow these easy tips to transition into your back-to-school schedule and make healthy decisions for the whole family. 1. Start Smart. “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” We’ve all heard it before and it’s true, especially for children, who are still developing. Be sure to have some breakfast staples ready to go for each morning, including things such as steel cut or old-fashioned oats (available in our bulk department for extra savings), whole grain bread, no-sugar added cereals (I recommend Engine 2 Rip’s Big Bowl), nut butters, unsweet-

ened non-dairy milks and a variety of fresh fruit to help get your day started. 2. Grab-and-Go. School cafeterias can sometimes be a challenging place to find healthy choices. Consider making meals at home so that you can “grab-and-go” healthy lunches for everyone in the family. Try some fresh Green Beans with Pecans and Clementine Dressing, flavor packed Whole Wheat Pasta with Kale and Sun-Dried Tomatoes or super easy, kid-friendly Collard Rolls. These, and many more, recipes are available at http://wholefoodsmarket.com/recipes. (Time saving tip: Double your dinner recipes to pack single serve containers for tomorrow’s lunch when cleaning up!) 3. Pack your Pantry. Having staple “go-to” pantry items such as canned beans, whole wheat pasta, nuts and seeds, rather than boxes of macaroni and cheese or other “convenience” foods goes a long way in making healthy decisions. Dinners made of no sugar and no oil added

organic 365 Marinara Sauce and whole wheat pasta take the same amount of time as typical boxed dinners, but have more nutritional value and less sodium and can feed the whole family to boot! 4. Involve the Kiddos. More often than not, kids are more invested in meals they help to prepare. Set your children up for success by involving them in the meal planning, preparation and serving of your families meals. This will help them learn vital skills and keep them interested in the fruit of their labors! 5. Be the change. It’s demonstrably true that kids mimic their parents. They have no better way to discover healthy habits than by learning from you! Be their best example by eating whole grains, legumes, fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds with a smile on your face. Nurture a positive rela-

Carrollwood Window and Door Provides Peace of Mind to Florida Customers By Deborah Bostock-Kelley In the midst of hurricane season, a window and door company is a good resource to have, especially when they’ve been in business since 1991 (incorporated in 1997) and the combined years of employee experience equal over 100 years. Carrollwood Window and Door distributes and installs residential windows, doors, sliding glass doors, and hurricane protection products such as shutters and impact resistant windows and doors. Besides providing exemplary customer service, Randy and wife Deedee Kah, founders of Carrollwood Window and Door, make sure all of their employees are “construction-knowledgeable.” “We don’t hire just sales associates; all of our staff is construction-knowledgeable – even our product specialists who go out to people’s homes have been installers and done the work themselves,” explains Deedee. “They

assess the situation as well as the construction of the home, and explain to the customer what to expect – if there’s going to be any drywall or stucco that’s any issue, etc. – they have the full construction knowledge to handle the problem efficiently.” Located at 6025 North Highway 301, Carrollwood Window and Door offers residential customers a beautiful showroom highlighting the latest products, giving you the opportunity to browse the different styles and designs. To best serve their clients, the knowledgeable staff will gladly work around your schedule and provide the convenience of in-home consultations, allowing them to get a feel for your house and give you recommendations as to the best products for your lifestyle and needs. Randy and Deedee take a very hands-on approach to customer service, staying involved throughout the entire process. Before each installation, Randy personally checks the order to ensure everything is correct to code,

and after the installation is complete he personally calls the homeowner to make sure they are 100% satisfied – if not, he will do everything he can until they are. “My husband Randy has been in the window and door business forever,” says Deedee. “He started this company as homeowner replacement and then got into the building market as well. We now offer new construction as well as replacement.” Carrollwood Window and Door started in Carrollwood, but as their business grew from replacement to replacement and new construction, they had to relocate several times due to the need for increased warehouse space. They moved into their current facility, a 22,600-square foot warehouse and showroom located outside of Brandon in 2008. Deedee says, “This has worked out to be a nice location. We’re right near the I4 and 75 interchange, so we’re easily accessible from all surrounding areas.” Carrollwood Window and Door offers customers many energy-saving

products, including Low-E glass, which reflects the heat and helps to keep the inside of your home cool, a long-term energy-saving benefit. The company’s main supplier PGT Industries in Venice, Florida is a pioneer when it comes to impact glass – the first ones in Florida that developed hurricane windows and doors. “We really like working with PGT because the quality of the products, the good service and the dependable delivery dates we can count on,” says Deedee.

Come visit Carrollwood Window and Door’s beautiful showroom and browse through their wonderful selection of high-end, top-of-the-line products. Deedee and Randy are proud that with service extending across counties, from Hillsborough to Pasco to Polk, from St. Petersburg, and southward to Bradenton, the majority of their clientele comes from word of mouth and referrals. Spring and fall stand out as the busiest time for the business, as homeowners tend to cross off their outdoor project list when the weather outside is tolerable and builders for new construction tend to ramp up at the end

of the year. The company offers both customer specials on their website and financing, so if you are looking to update your house and replace old windows and doors, now is the time! “Right now we have 12 months same as cash,” said Deedee. Whether you are looking to remodel your current home or building a new one, Carrollwood Window and Door will help add stylish flair to your house, with their beautiful custom de-

“Cigar City” Continued from page 1 frond split Cuban bread produced by Tampa’s La Segunda bakery. At Cigar City Brewpub they celebrate and pay homage to this unique heritage by making Tampa’s native dishes the cornerstone of their menu. Keeping with this concept, the beer menu too, takes this same approach, with beer inspired and named after some of Tampa’s noted historical influencers, including their Paulina Pedroso Brown Ale and Clara Frye IPA. Staying true to the area, they even offer a Northdale pale ale, a Mr. Mabry’s IPA and my personal favorite – the Carrollwood Cougar. Cigar City Brewpub also offers a full liquor bar for those who are in the mood for a different type of libation, although before trying a cocktail I highly recommend you try one of their fabulous brews! In the past year, Cigar City has quickly become a favorite amongst Carrollwood residents, who enjoy the homey feel and superb offerings of this locally run brewpub. Whether you are looking to grab a quick lunch, a nice family dinner, or a few drinks after work, you are sure to have a good time at Cigar City Brewpub. Local Gaither High School swim coach Sam Currey is a huge fan of Cigar City Brewpub. He says, “I was so excited when I found out Cigar City was opening a location is Carrollwood. This is one of my favorite places to eat. From the cooks in the back to the servers and bartenders, they all do a great job. The presentation is tremendous. I love the beer, love the food and love the service.” When asked what his favorite menu item is, he replied, “What isn’t my favorite – from the sandwiches to the oysters to the shrimp and grits, everything is amazing! We came here for Mother’s Day and after a recommendation, almost the entire table ordered the swordfish tacos. I have never had swordfish tacos before but everybody loved them. You have to try them on your next visit!” Walking in to Cigar City Brewpub, you will surely notice the innovative décor, almost all of which has been “up-cycled” from their brewery. From their fixtures made from brewery barrels, to the beer cans around the lights to their built in bar, which is also made out of cans, this eco-friendly Brewpub brings a little bit of the brewery to you; even the tables are up-cycled, made from re-used pallets and old brewery

Cigar City Brewpub offers guests a one-of-a-kind dining experience, complete with amazing, chef created masterpieces, including their smoked swordfish tacos, (above left), shrimp and grits (side left), and fresh shucked oysters (side right). equipment. Getting past the décor, one can hardly miss the huge brewery canisters, which are not so conspicuously hidden in the back corner of the bar area, where Head Brewer Tim Ogden brews his amazing creations!

Beer When it comes to beer, Tim Ogden knows a thing or two about how to make the perfect brew; from the first sip – no matter what beer you choose – you are bound to taste the Cigar City difference. Putting an idiosyncratic spin on some of your classic favorites, Tim’s original recipes are authentically one-of-a-kind and anything but your typical beer. “A lot of the beers that Tim makes are outside of the set beer categories”, says General Manager Russell Simons. “We don’t just do what every one else is doing,” adds Tim “We put an irreverent spin on what you might be used to and create something completely unique.” What really separates Cigar City is the intertwining of their food and beer menus. Uniquely designed to complement each other, Tim works hand in hand with Cigar City chefs Michael Cavanaugh and Ryan Brooks to masterfully create items that perfectly accompany one another. “Our beers were designed to pair well with our food and our foods were designed to pare well with our beer,” says Tim. “When put together they elevate each other and the presence of the beer literally makes the food better and vice versa.” Showcasing a variety of different brewing styles, Cigar City Brewpub brings the area a little bit of tradition with their MILF series – which stands for ‘Man I Love Firkins’! Utilizing one of the oldest brewing methods – the Firkin – this unique cask-ale series is served at a bit warmer temperature

than most traditional beer, and although it is still chilled, this difference allows you to experience the complex flavors and aromas of the cask conditioned brew which doesn’t come through if it is too cold. Russell says, “People are becoming accustomed to having more options, and thereby gaining a greater appreciation for better beer and better food. As the public becomes more educated about beer, they are able to make their decision of choosing the right beer. People are looking for that unique experience and that is exactly what we offer. We serve artisan-created beverages. With so many options available, why not choose full flavor.”

Food With many years of experience working in fine-dining restaurants around the country, head chefs Ryan Brooks and Michael Cavanaugh bring a creative twist to the Cigar City team and their combined knowledge and expertise is masterfully showcased in the exquisite fare you will find at this upscale Brewpub. From handcrafted salads to all natural beef burgers, fresh seafood to mouthwatering sandwiches, they offer something for every taste and preference; they even have a delicious selection of deserts for those with a sweet tooth. Cigar City has vegetarian options as well, such as their black bean cakes, served with fire roasted salsa verde and chipotle sour cream. “Joe Reddner{Cigar City’s founder’s father} is a vegan and he is always happy when he eats here,” says Ryan. “We always have enough veggies to be creative and accommodate vegetarians”. Looking for a recommendation? A huge favorite at Cigar City Brewpub, the aromatic distinction of the Smoked Swordfish Tacos is like none other. From the first bite you will be

hooked – wrapped in a crisped malanga boat, the smokiness of the rum-cured swordfish is perfectly complemented by their fabulously sweet homemade pickled cabbage and combines for an amazing flavor that is out of this world. Seriously, these are the best swordfish tacos I have ever eaten! Another great appetizer idea is their fresh- shucked oysters. Straight out of the gulf, these oysters are accompanied by a trio of yummy beerbased sauces – Northdale Pale Ale mignonette, Maduro Brown Ale cocktail, and Paulina Pedroso Brown Ale mignonette – which add a delicious zing to the fresh oysters. If you are in the mood for a juicy burger, you are in luck; Cigar City boasts a mouthwatering selection of hormone-free, all-natural beef patties, including their BBQ Burger, topped with house brown ale-BBQ sauce, house pickles, house cured bacon, Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, a sunny side up egg and mojo aioli on a brioche bun. Or how about the Blue Burger, made with their all-natural beef patty and topped with beefsteak tomatoes, bibb lettuce, house pickles, house bacon and St Pete’s cave-aged blue cheese, served on a brioche bun. My husband and I had this on our previous visit, and wow, this burger is good! Best described as an explosion of flavor, the tender beef patty was cooked to perfection and the crisp bacon and creamy blue cheese atop the sweet bun make for the ultimate burger. If you are in the mood for some good ol’ southern cooking, you will love their shrimp and grits! Made with coarse grain grits, the texture is superb, and unlike most grits, which tend to have a mushy consistency. Sitting in a moat of bisque and topped with fresh seared jumbo shrimp – which are excel-

Highlighting locally sourced and humanely raised hormone-free meats from Providence Cattle Company, as well as hand-selected ingredients from local farmers and purveyors, when it comes to food, Michael and Ryan are very passionate about what they serve. Michael says, “We are very adamant about taking things from scratch and bringing them fresh to your plate, from peeling and slicing the veggies, to pickling our homemade cabbage to roasting our pork; curing the fish for our swordfish tacos is a six hour process.” Ryan adds, “Preparation for our tacos is a prime example of what we go through to bring good food to our guests; just the man hours involved. It may seem simple, but the

behind the scenes is so much more.” From world-class beer to worldclass food, when you dine at Cigar City Brewpub in Carrollwood, no matter what the purpose of your visit is, you are sure to have an exceptional dining experience! Hundreds of Barstools – One Address! By Pam Sica Much to the delight of many Carrollwood residents, Barstool Mania relocated two years ago from south Tampa to the Marketplace North Shopping Plaza at 14851 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, FL 33618 on the SE corner of Bearss Avenue and Dale Mabry Highway (a few doors down from Nutrition S’Mart). You will find that charming owners Philomena and George Hamilton (who hail from the UK) and their able assistant Jules will most certainly go out of their way to assist you in selecting or creating the perfect barstools, bars and pub tables that will complement your home décor or satisfy your specific commercial establishment requirements. Barstool Mania has many different styles displayed throughout the showroom from which to choose and they also have an option for you to customize most stools in your choice of three heights (kitchen counter, bar and spectator heights). You’ll see a bevy of various metallic finishes, as-

sorted wood grains, fabrics, vinyls and leather treatments either on the floor or through a myriad of samples that are prominently displayed. It is wonderful to know that your rugs, wall accents, cushions, drapes and flooring are taken into consideration when you ask for help in visualizing the possibilities! You’ll be asked about your color preferences, the style you’re trying to achieve, along with the functionality requisites you have in mind. You can even bring in your own color swatches, paint colors, tile samples and special furniture finishes that you would like to have assistance in matching. When there are space considerations to deal with, you’ll even be shown matching pieces that coordinate beautifully with their armed counterparts. Perfect! I was fortunate to be able to witness Philomena in action during our interview, when a former client came in to look around. The gentleman was very happy with the two bar stools that he had purchased a few years back, but he noted that he was changing his living space somewhat. With her soothing Scottish brogue,

Philomena quickly qualified exactly what he needed, and helped him to realize that he needn’t replace his existing barstools, but instead, just add to their number with several other matching pieces. He was beaming! Certainly, if you have something very specific in mind, let Barstool Mania design exactly what you need for your situation. In most cases, custom orders can be shipped to the store within three to five weeks, depending on the manufacturer. Interestingly, some of Barstool Mania’s sources can even provide matching barstools and dining sets if you’re trying to create continuity in your living space. Just let them know your needs. I dare say that

there are not many companies out there that can actually match your wood (grains and stains) and also provide you the level of customer service that Barstool Mania can! Need extra wide, husky seating? Perhaps a tilt and swivel feature, nail heads or footplates would better suit your design requirements? You’ll find those kind of extras available on some of their stools as well. Not sure if a piece will fit within your existing décor? Ask how you might take it home overnight should you desire to see how it fits in your own personal setting. Even if you find that you have varying heights to accommodate, Barstool Mania has an option for you

Whether it be traditional, modern, contemporary or even “beachy” stools you’re searching for, in metal or wood (or both), open backed or backless styles, cushioned or not, there’s something for everyone at Barstool Mania. – gas-lift (pneumatic) stools! They are readily adjustable to suit your changing height requirements as needed. Whether it be traditional, modern, contemporary or even “beachy” stools you’re searching for, in metal or wood (or both), open backed or backless styles, cushioned or not, I have to say that there’s something for everyone at Barstool Mania. I was floored by the number of choices in wood backs, fabric backs, backless and armed/armless stools available. The possibilities are endless with a host of different bases in metal or wood. Some stools actually com-

bine both elements for a rich and varied look. Amazing! Just ask to see what options are available for any particular stool type. As far as durability goes, there are stools that have welded legs, many with guarantees from ten years to life, depending on the manufacturer. Philomena explained to me that Barstool Mania deals with more than ten different suppliers throughout the United States and Canada, from both the east and west coasts. Get your creative juices flowing and check out their internet page at < TampaBarstools.com >. You’ll see the specials that they are running during the

year and a wide assortment of their showroom highlights. And don’t forget to redeem the discount coupon featured on page 15 of our publication! Style, price and great customer service will be sure to score high points in your book whenever you stop in. If they’re closed, go ahead and scan the QR code on the door that directs you to their website. Then take a virtual tour and see the showroom come to life with its numerous floor models on display. You are apt to spot the perfect pieces in minutes! From what I understand, designers absolutely love to come in and experiment with all the bases, styles, and coverings available to complete their clients’ specific vision. It can truly be said that this is a one stop shop for your kitchen counter, bar or spectator stool needs, along with bars and tables (and even matching dinette sets). Remember, when you buy their bar stools, they’ll last a long time, unlike those available in big box stores. The

beauty of this place is that you can choose your own woods, metals and fabrics and make your own statement. Even if your décor changes, just order some new seat coverings for a whole new look. Some suppliers will even use your own fabric if you’re trying to match existing dining chairs or sofa cushions. Go ahead and give the Hamiltons a visit at Barstool Mania and let them help you to select the perfect stools to suit your style and pocketbook. Prices range from $69$690 and your options are ever abundant. Hope to see you there soon! Barstool Mania is located at 14851 N.
