The End of Summer is Near The end of summer means going back to school, or starting school for the first time, for many children. For me, it means we’re closer to the holidays, which gets me excited. I am not gonna lie, I went to Michaels the other day, and they already had halloween decor. For parents, the end of summer means adding the extra expenses of “Back-ToSchool” shopping, and boy do those add up quick! I must admit, I was never fully aware of how expensive school supplies, apparel and electronics were back in my school days. I grew up in a third world country, I did not owe a computer until my senior year of high-school, I would use a typewriter for my important projects and essays, and I did not get a cellphone until my freshman year in college. I would try my best not to bother my parents with unnecessary expenses, but… I did fall in love with every Disney Princess backpack to ever reach the stores of Venezuela, and lucky for me, sometimes my parents would get them for me. If you are a parent, you’ve probably had to tell your kids “No” in different occasions, especially at grocery or local stores which gives them access to multiple isles full of eye-catching items. I cannot imagine how hard it would be to say “No, put that back” while your adored little Michael looks at you with those big, sad eyes and and says “Mommy, Daddy, can I have this? pleaaase?” while holding that overly priced Spiderman backpack. That is why I decided to write an article on “Back-To-School” deals you will not want to miss. This way, whenever your sweet 5-year-old chases you around with that Frozen lunchbox or that Batman notebook set you can actually say “Ok!”. So make sure to check it out on page 8, you will find really great deals from local stores and big chains, that will definitely help you stay on budget when doing your personal back-to-school shopping. This issue is also jammed-packed with other incredible stories that I am sure you

will really enjoy. As the Editor, I get to read every single story that goes inside every one of our 7 publications, and it always makes me feel so proud of living in Tampa Bay. I get to learn so much about our city and about all the wonderful local business owners, who are in many cases our own neighbors. I encourage you to read every story, as you will also enjoy getting to know more in-depth about these incredible local businesses, what they have to offer and about the wonderful hard-working people who run them. Last, but not least, I want to congratulate our “Tampa Bay Rays” contest winners of the month; Doug Rutkowski, Kristy Starcevic, Caroline Cerveny, Dana Squires, Brian Simmons and Jason Bashline. They participated and won press level tickets to see the Rays at the Tropicana Field in St. Pete. *** F.Y.I. *** There’s still time to participate and win!!! We are still giving away press level seats and parking passes to those who like us and follow us in our social media sites and simply show us some love. The more you like, share and comment, the quicker we will notice you. If you have not done so yet, please follow us on instagram @tampabaynews and like us on Facebook @ TampaBayNewsandLifestyles and start liking, commenting and sharing! We will announce the winners at the end of the month. Again, thank you all for the continuous support, if there are any local stories you want to share with us, or if you would like to read about a particular topic, please send me an email to carla@ nnlflorida.com. We really want to make sure to publish content that is relevant for you, our reader. I hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as I did.

Chase Family Chiropractic - Improve Your Overall Health & Wellness

By Carla Dubis

Being in a car accident can be one of the most terrifying and overwhelming experiences a person lives through. Take it from me, I have been in 3 (not-at-fault) severe car accidents involving distracted Florida Drivers who ran red lights, stop signs and someone who was staring at their cellphone instead of the road.

The injuries from these car accidents were so severe that they impacted my life (and my wallet) forever. I have several herniated discs and bulging discs, pinched nerves and extreme anxiety attacks when I get behind the wheel. Lucky for me, I work with my fiancé, so he drives us to work and back, and I feel much safer that way. Living with any kind of pain makes everything much harder than it should be. Many times individuals like me, who have been injured in a crash, have so much muscle pain and stiffness that they simply cannot function normally. I know this to be very true. Even something as simple as playing and lifting my 2-year-old nephew results in me complaining about my back issues. Spending 8 or more hours staring at the computer screen at work does not help either. This discomfort, on top of other injuries, can be a serious issue. I never thought Chiropractic care was going to be the answer for me and the best

4 AUGUST 2017

solution for so many of my car accident related injuries. I was getting used to living in pain until I was advised to start chiropractic treatment a couple of times a week, and it's made such a tremendous difference in my life. My headaches and migraines are not as frequent anymore and my left arm does not get numb or feel tingly anymore, something that used to happen on a daily basis and affected my work. Chiropractors, like Dr. Chase, are able to treat neck and back injuries, whiplash injuries and help with soft tissue pain and injuries. If left untreated, any possible injury or issues can go on to cause other additional serious health problems. In fact, you may not think you have been injured after a car accident, and then start to experience discomfort or headaches several months after the fact. This is why I wholeheartedly recommend you to call Dr. Chase for an evaluation, even if you think there may not be a serious injury to blame. If you are currently living in pain, or if you have been involved in a car accident and are worried about possible repercussions, Chase Family Chiropractic care can make a difference in your life, it's definitely made a difference in mine. Get to know Dr. Austin Chase Dr. Chase cares about your health and wellness. By caring for your spine he helps

He received his undergraduate degree in physical sciences from Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho. While there he married his wife, Katelynn, and they welcomed their first child into the world. You probably recall Katelynn Chase and her story "Katelynn's Colors" from a previous issue of our South Tampa edition of Tampa Bay News and Lifestyles. Dr. Chase and Katelynn then moved to Atlanta, Georgia for him to earn his doctorate degree in Chiropractic from Life University. While there he studied incredibly hard, earned amazing grades, passed all his classes, and added two more children to his family. He and his family moved to Tampa during the summer of 2015 for him to begin his career. Dr. Chase considers himself blessed to work with Dr. Gregory Zwirn at Axis Chiropractic and Rehab in Tampa. Dr. Chase has a plan that helps aid mothers through the pregnancy and birth process by helping them stay aligned and providing both mom and baby with optimal conditions for birth. After his own wife's 3 successful pregnancies, and with a new baby on the way, Dr. Chase is an expert on this type of care and Katelynn is living proof of how well it works, as she has experienced firsthand the great relief expecting mothers can have with regular chiropractic care. "It is our goal to make pregnancy more comfortable, and problem free. It is our priority to help mom through whatever she may encounter during pregnancy. We work to help alleviate any pain, help open her pelvis so there is more room for delivery, help her relax—which in turn gives the baby a less stressful environment—and much more," says Dr. Chase. "I witnessed how my wife’s ability to sleep improved drastically, her ability to cope with the mundane things in life went from questionable to conquered, any pregnancy pains were relieved, and her recovery after birth was phenomenal," he added. "Our care doesn’t stop after delivery though, we continue to work with mom and newborn through new life problems and growth by maintaining proper alignment and nerve function." The prenatal plan consists of routine adjustments throughout pregnancy, a home visit by Dr. Chase after delivery, and six months of care after birth for both the mom and newborn(s). In the first trimester mom is seen every other week. During the second trimester mom is seen weekly. During the third trimester mom is seen 2 times per week until birth. After the home visit, mom and baby will be seen twice a month for six months. Through this plan, it will allow Dr. Chase the opportunity to prepare mom for the best birthing experience, help provide space for a head down delivery, help speed healing after birth, and see the baby through some of their first milestones in an optimal growing environment.

Late Summer Snook Fishing

By Capt. Matt Selby

It’s August and the fishing can be as hot as the weather on some days, and completely turn off on others. It can be a very frustrating time of year for many anglers in search of one of the most iconic gamefish in our waters; the Snook! I’ve been fishing my entire life and just like many of you, some days I catch fish until I’m tired of it, and somedays fishing is so slow I honestly get tired of fishing. I don’t care who you are or how vast your knowledge is, sometimes getting the fish to bite is a challenge. During the summer months, some fishing days are full of double digit catches and some days it’s next to impossible to even find the bait.

But why?

Well, many factors come into play but one of the most obvious, and sometimes overlooked factor is simply the heat. The water temps can reach over 90 degrees by noon and often times the fish will just shut off. They still have to eat, but most of the time, they choose the times of day that are a little more comfortable for them. In August, early morning or night fishing is going to be your best bet.

6 AUGUST 2017

Snook love an abundance of baitfish, moving current and warm water temperatures. They are opportunistic feeders who exert energy when needed but are completely happy stacking up in one place for hours. They stack up in areas where, you guessed it, a strong moving current will flush baitfish right in their face, producing an easy meal. They are also very structureoriented, and even when you see them cruising the beach, they are usually just moving to their next spot near a drop off, mangrove bed, dock or other underwater habitat. High Tide Snook fishing differs from Low Tide Snook fishing as well. Think about it, how many times have you caught a fish and go back to that spot over and over. My guess is, you catch fish there again but not every time, and that can be frustrating Why aren’t they always there? The short answer is, they are, just not always when you’re there. With a high tide, Snook enjoy deeper water near the mangroves and shorelines so they tend to hide out under the cover of the groves, ambushing pray as it swims by in the current. You can also find Snook under docks at this time. During a low tide, less water is near the shoreline so the Snook won’t be there. They tend to be in deeper channels and on drop off edges during the lower tides. This isn’t to say you can’t find an abundance of Snook in deeper channels or under bridges during high tide, it’s just more likely on a low.

Even with all this information, if you don’t have the local knowledge of where the fish tend to be, you're going to spend a lot of time scouring miles of the dense mangrove shorelines of Florida. This is where hiring an experienced fishing guide can make your day on the water a lot more successful. I’ll be honest though, there’s days where we find the fish, all the conditions are right on paper, but they won’t eat. It happens, and anyone who says otherwise is just down right lying to you. If fishing was easy, it wouldn’t be so rewarding. The thrill of the hunt, the days that shut us out, and especially the days that a plan comes together and the fish are happy to cooperate, are what keep us addicted and coming back for more. Tight Lines! If you want to go Snook fishing with me, call me at 727-253-5893, follow me on Instagram @captmattselby or on Facebook under Epic Sport Fishing.

Medical research centers can be quite intimidating and difficult to navigate for some patients. Axiom offers a more personable and pleasant approach to medical research. “We often hear that our patients feel lost in large hospital research settings. As a small company, we are able to combine

It has been fascinating to watch the brain imaging techniques used in research evolve over the past several years. Recent advances in imaging have enabled physicians to more accurately diagnosis Alzheimer’s disease earlier in the disease process, making it possible to start the most appropriate and effective treatments sooner. Can I participate / volunteer in a Clinical Research Trial at Axiom? Axiom draws research participants from the surrounding Tampa Bay Community through physician referrals and advertisements. Volunteers generally benefit from participating in clinical trials by gaining access to treatments not widely available to the public. Participants also typically receive advanced brain imaging and other diagnostic tests at no cost to the volunteer. Patients also have frequent contact with experts and the opportunity to receive state of the art care for their neurological disorder. Managing someone with a neurodegenerative disorder can be very challenging. At Axiom, families and caregivers can receive recommendations and direction from the medical team and access to community-based support groups.

A volunteer is never charged for services.

The pharmaceutical company covers all treatment related expenses. Tampa Neurology Associates, the parent company of Axiom, does provide general neurology services and accepts insurance from most major insurance companies.

Axiom is currently conducting investigational trials in the following study areas: • • • •

Alzheimer’s Disease – Early, Mild and Moderate Stages Alzheimer’s with Agitation Age-associated memory loss Multiple Sclerosis

MARK YOUR CALENDARS

SOUTH TAMPA almost boring to call it great. It’s the definition of a Hollywood masterpiece. The scenes and the characters have taken on mythological lives of their own. But Casablanca manages to be strongly original while also synthesizing parts of many films of its time: a wartime setting, a hero with shades of grey in his past, a female lead who wants something she can’t have, humor and tragedy and parody and sacrifice. And, of course, doomed love. Good art tells us stories; great art makes demands of us. Casablancademands we break our own hearts like Rick, make dangerous choices like Ilsa, sing like Sam and scheme like Louis. And the movie remains timeless because those feelings are. Green Day - Revolution Radio Tour

Green Day’s new album, Revolution Radio, is a collection of songs about the chaotic state of America in 2016. It’s not strictly a political concept album like American Idiot – there are also morepersonal songs like “Ordinary World,” a sweet ballad that ends the album. But most songs touch on pressing social issues: “Still Breathing” is a scorcher that, according to Armstrong, “goes from the life of a junkie to the life of a gambler to the life of a single mother and a soldier and how we’re all kinda intertwined.” The most incendiary song is lead single “Bang Bang,” written from the perspective of a mass shooter.

Kendrick Lamar: The Damm Tour

Kendrick Lamar has reigned supreme in the first half of 2017, and he’s set to use the Damn Tour to continue his dominance later this year. And there’s even more good news if you weren’t able to get tickets yet, because the tour was officially extended on Monday with the announcement of an additional 15 shows. Damn is the fastest-selling album of 2017, and an expansion of the tour before it starts shows just how big of an appetite there is for more Kendrick Lamar. When you go platinum in less than in a month, the rest takes care of itself. More Information Date(s): September 1, 2017 Hours: 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM Location: 401 Channelside Dr Tampa, FL 33602

STAVRO WEDDING

NTP 2 Photography Will Exceed Your Expectations By Michelle Naktin

Photography is an art of observation and creating an emotional response or memory. When looking at a photograph the emotion it brings to you can be very different from the emotion it brings to another.

NTP 2 Photography ‘s Mission Statement is to produce both still and video photography “that will exceed your expectations while providing the FINEST working relationship”.

A photograph is merely an interpretation of the moment as it was experienced. What NTP 2 Photography does is precisely capture your memories and to evoke the emotions felt during these special times. They want to move you and remind you of moments that which can never be recaptured.

NTP 2 Photography aims to differentiate their studio and services from all other local photographers. This means they will go above and beyond what’s expected to ensure they provide the best product and client experience. NTP2 is not an average studio with average photographers and they surely wouldn’t allow their

services to be average. Eric Bunch, NTP 2’s owner, is the third generation of his family that has been evolved with photography. Eric helped manage Tampa’s largest photography retailer for several years. During that time he gained key technical experience in cameras and lighting that complimented his part time pursuit of taking pictures. In early 2016, Eric opened his business and studio to provide a broader range of services to his clients. Eric is ever mindful of the importance of light and composition and this is what separates his work from other photographers who rely primarily on “technology”. Eric will tell you that using all the features found in modern cameras and photo editing applications in fine as an enhancement. But, the best shots occur solely with the “eye” of the photographer. In working with his clients, Eric lives by one of his favorite quotes which is “teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision”. This applies to both his staff and his clients. Working alongside Eric is Doug Tomlinson, Lead Videographer, who supports Eric with much of his commercial and video work. Lo Vazquez is an expert still Photographer and Lead Instructor. Doug has many years specializing in commercial and video production. Lo specializes in wedding and portrait photography and serves as the primary Instructor for the in- studio and off-site training classes offered by NTP 2. Potential clients can find the full listing of their services and examples for their photography, both still and video, on their website at www.NTP2.com

Lauren Hopper reviewed NTP 2 Photography — 5 stars “February 23, 2016 Thank you to Eric and his team at NTP 2 for doing our family Christmas photos. They came out amazing! I sent it to all my clients with their Christmas card and they are still raving about it! Very reasonably priced, honest people, and great to work with!!! I highly recommend them to anyone looking for family photos.” Angela Cole Reimer reviewed NTP 2 Photography — 5 stars “February 22, 2016 These guys are the best! Not only will they come to your location, but they are excellent with children and pets. We got some fabulous family pictures at a very reasonable price. I will be using them again for some of my business photography.” Here are some things to remember when you consider using a professional photographer. Don’t be afraid to create fun and be adventurous. NTP 2 Photography will make sure that your photos are unique and express your personality. Passion is contagious. If it is a family, baby, maternity, headshot or a wedding, the NTP 2 team will embrace it with passion and love. Their competitors can copy their images, copy their style, but they cannot copy their staff, their culture, or their service. Whether you are looking to capture the flower girl asleep in her father’s arms or your child’s first communion, NTP 2 Photography will blend into the background and capture the spontaneity of your event. This is your special day. One you will want to re-live and remember so let NTP 2 make it last forever.

In these fast-moving times it’s too easy let treasured moments in our lives pass us by and that is why it is so important to capture them. The birth of your child is one of the most moving experiences and it’s almost as if you blink your eye and they’re turning 5 and then 20. NTP 2 Photography will maintain these memories through their outstanding family and individuals portraits.
