Corks 4 A Cause – Drinking Wine Has Never Felt This Good “You may or may not be aware of this but for the past year we have been working with an amazing group of individuals to create a new Tampa Bay charity; Corks 4 A Cause,” says local businesswoman Mary Clawson. “Laura Rehbein, Lisa Demmi, Karen Koch, and Kim Pitcock, and myself have all been instrumental in helping bring this charity to life. Corks 4 A Cause is our way to combine our efforts and give back to our local community.” The mission of Corks 4 A Cause is simply that of raising funds for local Tampa Bay area charities through like-minded wine enthusiasts. Their goal is to host quarterly wine events with the purpose of raising money for a specific charity (which has gone through an application process). The charity will be different for each event and applications may be found on their website at www.corks4acause.org. Throughout the months, the wine events may take

on various different formats but the main goal will be consistent – raise money for the designated charity. “We are very excited to be hosting our first event on Thursday, September 18th in downtown Tampa at Skypoint Condo’s,” says Mary. “Our first charity is Solita’s House. You can find information by visiting SolitasHouse.com/index.html. If you are looking for a way to support local please consider supporting their cause. You can do this in a few ways: 1. Buy tickets and come to their first event! Tickets are prepurchase only and can be bought on their website at www.corks4acause.org/page1769807 2. Be a sponsor! As a new char-

Genghis Grill, Where You Can Build Your Own Amazing Stir Fry Bowl! By Pam Sica Whether you’re a first timer like me or a seasoned stir fry veteran, it is very likely that Genghis Grill will quickly become one of your favorite local eateries because here, you are in charge of selecting exactly what and precisely how much food is prepared for you to eat. First opened in 2012 on the northwest corner of Northdale Blvd. and N. Dale Mabry Highway, Genghis Grill is owned and operated by Dorsch brothers, Nicholas, Jordan and Elliott. As noted in their story located in Vol. 1, Issue 03-13 of the Carrollwood NNL, it is the brothers’ goal to have their restaurant be “one of the places in the community that people think about when they want to eat something hot, fresh and healthy.”

Our Wonderful Experience! Upon entering, we let our hostess, Erin know that it was our first visit to Genghis Grill and she immediately seated us close to the huge, circular

grill so we could have an unobstructed view of the Grill Masters at work. She then introduced us to our knowledgeable and friendly server shift leader, Axel, who took our drink and appetizer order, and then explained that next time, we could easily enter that order on the Presto Touch Screen Menu as soon as we were seated, should our server not be immediately available. How convenient! At Axel’s behest, we selected our bowl size (small, medium, large) and were given name cards (used later to identify our grill spots). Bowls in

hand, we made our way to the Ingredients Bar after checking out the many Signature Dish recipes available. First, we chose our protein(s) from an abundant selection of meat and fish, including chicken, pork, turkey, ham, marinated steak, sirloin tips, white fish, sausage, scallops, calamari and more. Vegetarian? Vegan? Don’t worry, fresh Farmer’s Market offerings were next up, including beans, tofu, bamboo shoots, sprouts, carrots, onions, zucchini and yellow squash, mandarin oranges, pico de gallo, broccoli, red and green peppers, cabbage, celery, water

portion is prepared on a freshly cleaned cooking surface (your own piece of the pie, so to speak). The wonderful aromas absolutely heighten your senses beyond belief. When a well-earned tip was placed in the tip jar, a truly spectacular grill fire display was given in return by the Grill Masters! Then within a few minutes, our magnificent grilled creations were brought to us and our feasting began! Yum! Not too bad for first timers, if I do say so myself.

Be Sure To Check Out The Specials!

Be sure to keep an eye out for the spectacular grill fire display at Genghis Grille! Then finally, you select your Artisan Grilling sauce. Choose from a traditional hoisin, honey soy, roasted tomato or Island Teriyaki sauce. Or you might want to try the 3G, sweet and sour, red curry peanut or Mongo BBQ sauce. For a gluten-free alternative, try the Dragon sauce. Other lively sauces include the Ginger Citrus, Szechuan, Chili Garlic Khan Pao and the fiery Khanzu. Our foraging ended at the grill area where our bowls and name cards were handed off to one of the Grill Masters, along with any special dietary

requests, which are dutifully honored. At this point, you are given a choice of starches to add to your masterpiece. Fried rice and udon noodles (similar to lo mein) worked for me, but you can also choose from steamed white rice, brown rice, spiral pasta, tortillas and cabbage. We returned to our table and watched the magic happen while the Grill Master deftly prepared our meals. We quickly dipped into our appetizers (be sure to try the Garlic Citrus Edamame – they are out of this world)! On the circular grill, each

Estrada Injury Law Provides Peace of Mind to Clients By Deborah Bostock-Kelley Type ‘personal injury lawyer’ into the Google search bar and prospective clients are instantly greeted with 1.6 million results in Tampa alone. But what makes a personal injury attorney more valued than his competition? It’s not the plaques on the mahogany lined walls, the important books in the bookshelf, or even the location of the law office; it’s the integrity, and the personal attention and experience that lawyer brings to the table. Jose Estrada of Estrada Injury Law is not your typical personal injury lawyer. Combining a background in the medical field that spans 21 years with his legal expertise, he brings his comprehensive knowledge to each case. Estrada’s two decades in the medical field includes work in the military medical field and 12 years as a Physician Assistant in general medicine. “Law is my second career,” explains Jose. “I started in the medical field and while I was in it, I saw the impact that negligently caused injuries had on the patients, whether it was the negligence of drivers or of professionals.” What consistently separates Estrada from others in his field is his hands-on medical experience. He says, “My background is not unique, but it’s uncommon –I started as a Navy Corpsman. I was an EMT, a surgical technician, and a Physician Assistant. I focus on personal injury, so the cases I handle involve conditions that I’ve actually treated in the past. As a Physician Assistant, I treated patients, prescribed medications, and held hospital privileges. I still maintain my

Physician Assistant license with the Florida Board of Medicine.” Estrada has either seen, treated or participated in practically any surgical procedure or diagnoses involved in his cases. Without hesitation, he swiftly recited surgical procedures in which he has assisted, from appendectomy, orthopedics and rhinoplasty to lung removal and even open heart surgery, among others. Estrada has been handling personal injury cases since graduating from Stetson University College of Law in 1997. For the past 17 years, he has litigated cases involving accidents, wrongful death, defective products, medical negligence and nursing home abuse throughout Florida. “I’ve been bringing peace of mind to the victims of negligence since 1997 by fighting to protect their legal rights,” says Jose. “We do everything on a contingency basis. The client doesn’t pay any fees or costs unless we obtain compensation.” Attorney Estrada also takes pride in the personal attention he gives each client and prospective client. “I’m the one who talks to any prospective client,” says Jose. “They speak with me directly. I get to hear from them and they get to tell the attorney about their potential case or claim. I’m the one who weighs in on

all the factors and I’m the one who decides if the firm will be able to assist them.” Estrada offers his services 24/7. When the office closes for the day, all the calls are forwarded to his cell phone. “If someone calls after hours, I answer, whether it be night, weekend or holiday. They can always talk to an attorney.” Estrada Injury Law has offices in Tampa and in Estrada’s hometown of St. Petersburg. Estrada is also willing to travel to meet his clients and handles cases throughout Central Florida. In their fabulous storefront located at 11005 N Dale Mabry Hwy in Tampa, two wonderful concepts come together for the perfect combination and whether you are looking to dress your house or yourself, Ellay Boutique and Et-Cet-Era offer just what you need to dazzle the competition! Starting with a vision and a passion for unique designs, owner Rosemary (Rose) Vidonic began her journey with a small 180 square foot space in the back of Salon Montage.

16

SEPTEMBER 2014

She was an instant hit! Rose originally named her store Vertigo, after a recommendation from her friend and ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons, and later changed her name to Ellay Boutique, as a tribute to her oldest daughter Layla. “I opened my store because I realized that there wasn’t enough variety in Carrollwood Village,” says Rose “so I thought – I’ve done this for 20 years for other people – I think I can do this myself. And through the grace of God he allowed me to do that. He directed me and told me exactly what to do!” Over the years her success continued to grow, thus did her need for space, and Rose eventually incorporated another aspect to her business – the home décor side. As the original owner of Et-Cet-Era unique gifts and home décor, Rose has brought her passion for fashion to a whole new level!

Owner Rosemary Vidonic (L) has an eye for unique fashions and her boutique showcases a fabulous selection of one-of-a-kind items! “I love shopping at Ellay,” says Barbara Iavarone. “The new store is beautiful and the clothes and luxe accessories are stylish and fun. The staff is always helpful and fashion knowledgeable.” In addition to her two stores, the storefront also boasts a hair salon – Styles by Chris – located within the Boutique; the owner ironically is the same woman who used to own the salon before selling to Salon Montage,

How to Turn Your Kids into Healthy Little Chefs At Whole Foods Market many of our core values focus on healthy eating, sustainability and community involvement, so it should come as no surprise that we are actively involved with local schools and businesses to promote healthy living endeavors! During the month of September we are focusing on the Whole Kids Foundation, a non-profit created by Whole Foods Market, which is just one of the ways that we encourage and nurture community partnerships. At a basic level, the Whole Kids Foundation offers grants for school gardens and school salad bars (over 2,600 salad stations and counting)! In addition to being nutritious, these school gardens and salad bars give children the added bonus of eating the fruits (and vegetables!) of their labors. But what do you when your child is given access to fruits and veggies, yet still won’t eat them? Try these simple tips to encourage your child to enjoy whole, plant-based foods! 1. Lead by example. Recent studies show that children whose parents do not eat whole vegetables and

20

fruits, or show an unfavorable reaction to them, will follow suit. Encourage your kids to enjoy their plates by doing the same thing yourself! Start your day with healthy smoothies that the whole family will enjoy with recipes such as the “Get Your Greens Smoothie” and “Pineapple Breeze Smoothie” or visit our juice bar for a fresh one made-to-order! 2. Involve the kids. As with most things, kids want to be involved in “adult activities.” By inviting them into the kitchen to help with meal prep, you can open up new doors and

spark their food interests. Additionally, let them help write the grocery list and then invite them them along for grocery shopping trips. Their “investment” in the process will expand their food horizons. Shop for kidfriendly recipes such as “PB&J Bites”, “Banana Nice Cream” and “Double Grape Slushies,” which are quick and easy to prepare so that the whole family can become chefs in your home kitchen. 3. Offer a Variety. Kids like to feel that they’re in control. Offer a variety of healthy options and let them pick their favorite! Use a basic dinner idea like “Refried Bean and Avocado Soft Tacos” then give them a choice of

healthy toppings to choose from: olives, tofu, cabbage, lime, cilantro, shredded carrots, etc.). Ready to get cooking? Visit www.wholefoodsmarket.com/recipes for any of the recipes above. Tampa Healthy Aging – Feel Like YOU Again! By Deborah Bostock-Kelley Anthony Granell, Ph.D., D.O. is one of those impressionable people that make you feel like you’ve known them for years the very first time you meet them. Many of you may very well know Dr. Granell; it’s not surprising if you do because he’s a 3rd generation Tampanian and has been a staple in the Carrollwood medical community for over 25 years! Starting off his professional career in the Psychology field, he quickly realized that he wanted the power to actually take action and treat the patients he was helping to diagnose. He always knew he wanted to help people, and after going to medical school at age 35 Dr. Granell turned his dream into a reality. After graduation he returned to Tampa and in 1990 started his own family practice, literally! His mother and daughter worked along side him and they all treated his patients like family. After over 20 years and thousands of patients later Dr. Granell decided it was time to retire – that didn’t last long; especially when he saw many of his friends in the com-

munity suffering from the same negative symptoms that come with aging. Dr. Granell is of the baby boomer generation himself so he understood exactly what the people in their mid to late 40s, 50s and 60s were going through. While age brings many positives in one’s life, it also brings upon many challenges, as we are all aware of. Some of those challenges include fatigue, weight gain, lack of focus or mental clarity and falling sex drive. Most of us just want to feel like our old selves or more specifically, our younger selves. Taking this into consideration, Dr. Granell decided his days of helping people weren’t over yet and launched his newest venture – Tampa Healthy Aging.

“My patients, young and old, value my experience as a family physician,” says Dr. Granell. “It is the personal care that I offer that makes the difference in their lives. I listen carefully and take the time to answer questions and explain medical issues to them and I do it ‘the old fashioned way.’” Dr. Granell takes a simple and effective approach to medicine, an approach he implemented since day one. It’s not rocket science, although it’s easier said than done as far as finding a doctor that will do it. Dr. Granell actually LISTENS to his patients. Dr. Granell says, “Ask a patient what’s bothering them and they will tell you. It’s that easy! I never pretend to know everything and if I don’t have an an-

swer right away I tell them I don’t but I will find out. Demand to be listened to as a patient and if you don’t feel like yourself anymore, let me help!” Lets face it, the older we get, the harder it is to look and feel healthy. From keeping off the extra weight we seem to always pack on during the holidays, to just having the en-

ergy to play with kids or grandkids. Many factors come into play with weight gain, especially. Think about this; if you start at age 20 as a fit 5 foot 5, 120 pound woman that averages a 4-pound weight gain per year (normal holiday weight gain) and don’t do anything about it, by age 40 you will weigh 200 pounds. A lot of that weight gain could have been prevented with a healthy diet or exercise regimen but a lot happens during those 20 years, such as careers,

children, and let’s be honest, husbands (which are pretty much just giant children that require a lot of attention). I’m man enough to admit it, my wife probably does entirely too much for me. However, what if you were superwoman for all those years and balanced all of those things as well as dieted and exercised? You may not be 5’5 and 120 pounds anymore, but you definitely didn’t have to put on 80 pounds. Then you start getting into your late 40’s, and all of the sudden no matter what you do to be healthy, weight starts to pack on and diet and exercise isn’t enough. At this point it very well can be a hormonal issue and Dr. Granell of Tampa Healthy Aging has just what you need! Even if it’s not a hormonal issue but you’ve been struggling with the ability to maintain a healthy weight, Tampa Healthy aging has the medical weight loss solution that can end your yo-yo dieting frustration – no matter what your age! What was once the unknown area of medicine, Hormone Replacement Therapy or HRT for short has entered

Carrollwood Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

the world of modern medicine in a big way and with fantastic results. Tampa Healthy Aging uses bio-identical hormones, which means your body sees them as its own and not some foreign synthetic junk. Hormone therapy can help a women increase libido, decrease hot flashes, reduce mood swings and manage and maintain weight. Women, however are not the only ones feeling the negative effects of aging. Men, even though we hate to admit it, are also very susceptible to hormone changes with age. Guys, if you suffer from low energy, change in mood or decrease in sex drive, low testosterone may be the culprit.

Ladies, if you’re reading this and that sounds like your man or at least the way your man has been acting lately, do him a favor and have him schedule a free consultation with Dr. Granell. Don’t sit around another day and think about how nice it would be to feel young again. Do something about it! Go see Dr. Granell at Tampa Healthy Aging and Feel like YOU again! Tampa Healthy Aging is located at 15417 N Dale Mabry Hwy. in TAMPA. For more information please call (813) 963.7500 or visit www.TampaHealthyAging.com.

Bear Track Lake Adventures – A Nature-Lover’s Dream! By Alexis Selby No traffic, no commercialization, and no stress; surrounded by nothing but nature, as you sit on the back porch and stare out into the serene lake and lush woodlands, you are instantly overcome by a sense of calmness and relaxation. Perfectly contrasted by the vibrant green tree line, the sky is a light blue color. There is not a sound to be heard for miles, aside from that of chirping birds or the ‘who’ of a friendly owl – when you stay at a Bear Track Lake Adventures’ cabin you truly have found a secluded oasis and a perfect representation of what it means to get away. If you have never taken a vacation to the beautiful mountains of Kentucky, than you are missing out on one of the country’s most exclusive hidden gems and Bear Track Lake Adventures surely has done an exceptional job of bringing you to nature’s doorstep. Situated in the middle of a valley on 32 acres of mountainous terrain, overlooking a 7 acre lake, this picturesque setting is like something out of a fairy tale. From the moment you arrive you will slowly feel your tensions slip away and the stresses in your life all of a sudden won’t seem so important. If you are looking for the perfect place to recharge your batteries you have found all that and more at Bear Track Lake Adventures. As a guest at Bear Track Lake Adventures expect a warm Kentucky welcome from owners Fred and Janice Austin, as well as their son Justin and their three dogs. They were such gracious hosts and really did an amazing job of making us feel welcome and introducing us to the area. Living right down the road from the cabin, they were always there if we had any ques-

Imagine yourself waking up to this amazing view! tions and truly made our experience memorable. Their dogs made great walking companions, especially their beautiful Husky Rocco, who on the first night stayed outside our window, guarding us against any creatures that might be lurking about. Fred Austin, a Health Care Administrator in Florida for 17 years, got to missing his mountains and seasons and returned to Kentucky. He built the cabins at Bear Track Lake Adventures as a way to share this beauty with the rest of the world, and since his first cabin was built over three years ago, Fred has had guests from as far away as Europe and as close as neighboring Kentucky cities. No matter where you live or the lifestyle you lead, you can surely appreciate the magnificence that the Kentucky mountains have to offer!

Sleepy Bear’s Dream With two bedrooms, two bathrooms and an additional loft with a bunk bed, the Sleepy Bear’s Dream, comfortably sleeps seven, and is the

perfect option for families. Newly built in January, the cabin is immaculate and features hand-crafted furniture, custom wood countertops, two thirdfloor balconies, a full downstairs with a pool table, a work out bike and a hot tub, and my personal favorite – a back porch that overlooks the lake. Just picture yourself waking up to that amazing view, drinking your morning coffee as you sit back in the rocking chair taking in the serenity of the lake as the fog slowly rolls off the top of the water. The feeling is almost surreal, knowing you are amongst nature in its truest form, something untouched by man.

Bear Lair Cabin For those with a smaller group, the second one bedroom cabin is the perfect fit, and sleeps four comfortably. Located right down the road from the Sleepy Bear’s Dream, the Bear Lair too sits right on the lake, with a back porch that overlooks the serene body of water and pristine na-

ture. Built a few years ago, this cabin is just as beautiful and showcases the same craftsmanship and attention to detail as its sister cabin next door. As their names imply, these cabins are all about bears- from wood carvings in the pillars to the furniture, to figures and decorations that can be found throughout. I think Fred and Janice were very clever in naming these cabins as you truly feel like a bear in hibernation from the rest of the world. Away from your hectic schedule and work, for once can let your mind be at ease and not have to worry about the demands of your life. As amazing as the cabins are on the inside, if you love nature than you are going to have to walk outside and explore the many sights that Lee county Kentucky has to offer. And the best part is, if you are looking to do some exploring, you don’t even have to leave the property. With numerous hiking trails and walking paths, as well as cliffs, geological formations and many other unique sights, you can surely get your fix of nature on this 32 acre retreat. They also have a boat so you can take a trip around the lake for a different perspective; or possibly throw out a line to catch some catfish for lunch. Oh yeah, and did I mention – right outside the cabin doors are numerous 50 million year old caves, one of which boasts cave carvings that date back to what archaeologists believe to be over 8,000 years old. In fact if you are an adventure seeker and consider yourself to be the “outdoorsy” type you even have the option of staying in one of the caves overnight. “How would you like to stay in a 50 million year old hotel,” jokes Fred, “we have that!” “This is an amazing cabin and place to vacation,” writes one guest. “It was very relaxing and quiet. The

Whether you choose to explore the many exciting caves on the beautiful mountainous property or relax inside the warm, corfortable cabin, you are sure to experience the getaway of a lifetime at Bear Track Lake Adventures! woods, trails, cliffs and caves and wildlife are amazing to experience. My two eleven year olds had a blast on the fishing boats this weekend. The cabin was well-equipped with everything we needed. We loved playing with the sweet dogs too. I’ve stayed at several cabins throughout Tennessee and Kentucky and this is by far my favorite. We will definitely be back. Thanks for the memories!” On our visit, my husband and I were very fortunate, as Fred gave us a grand tour of the property, showing us

the magnificent rock formations and caves. They truly are an impressive sight and as you gaze up in wonderment at these breathtaking geological formations that date back over 50 million years old it really does put your life into perspective. Each nook and cranny and uniquely formed layer tells a story of days past and one can only imagine everything these rocks have been through in their life span. With all the activities that can be found by merely stepping out the cabin doors, even more can be found

in the surrounding area, from rock climbing the magnificent cliffs to hiking the trails in the state parks, to fishing and canoeing the waterways; they even have zip lining only a few miles away. In fact, you might not be aware of this, but Lee county Kentucky is ranked among the best rock climbing destinations in the world. “People travel from all over the world to rock climb here,” says Janice. When you visit I also recommend you visit the Red River Gorge – one of Kentucky’s famous sights. A natural bridge that

overlooks a steep 100 foot + drop off, the Red River Gorge really is a magnificent sight. Bear Track Lake Adventures truly is a nature lover’s dream and it is with a heavy head that I leave here today and return to reality; although I seek comfort in knowing I will once again return to this beautiful oasis and revisit the many amazing memories I have made on this wonderful trip. So, next time you are looking to escape from reality to a place where your stresses will simply melt away, where you can finally be at peace and recharge your batteries, I suggest you take a little trip to Bear Track Lake Adventures – it is a trip you will surely cherish for the rest of your life! Located five minutes from the world-class rock climbing of Pendagrass-Murrey Recreational Preserve, and 20 minutes from Natural Bridge State Resort Park & The Red River Gorge, Bear Track Lake Adventures’ Cabins are located at 575 Bear Track Lake Rd. in Beattyville, Kentucky. For more information or to book your next vacation please visit their website at BearTrackLakeAdventures.com, follow them on Facebook and Twitter, or give Fred and Janice a call at (606) 464-8097.

“Royal Pets” Continued from page 1 a huge pet area for day camp. When asked what she liked best about her position, she smiled and indicated to the many dogs surrounding her. She says, “Definitely, it’s hanging out with the dogs. I get to know their different personalities and get bond with them.” Yet inside, undetected from the street, Royal Pets boasts 17,000 square feet of all things cat and dog. This one-of-a-kind pet emporium contains an 8,000 square foot retail shop; a Barkery pet treat bakery area; a highend grooming salon; a state of the art veterinary center; a spacious 100 bed pet resort with private play yards, plush bedding, flat-screen TVs and pet cameras for online owner monitoring; an air-conditioned indoor dog park; an outdoor dog park and doggy day care. Royal Pets really is a one-stop shop for any pet owner’s need. To say CEO Denise Wolin-Gore is passionate about pets is an understatement. Recently celebrating their 3-year anniversary and year anniversary of the veterinary center, Denise explains, “We truly give pets and pet parents the

We like to call our facility, ‘play all day, sleep all night.’ It’s everything you can imagine under one roof for dogs and cats.” The doggie day camp is quite popular, as many customers drop their pets off in the morning before work and pick them up on the way home from work. “Think of a working fam-

small area of the house all day.” Depending on day, week or time of year, an indoor and outdoor day camp provides shelter to 50 fourlegged family members. Pets in camp are separated by not just size, but by activity level in a small dog and large dog doggie day camp. A one-on-one behavior review also determines if the

If they’re the type of dog who doesn’t like other dogs running up to them all the time, then we do private play times with them.” Pets are never left unattended and doggie day camp associates are

trained in dog behavior so they are able to recognize dog body language and prevent any incidents from occurring in the park. “On the veterinary side of the day camp, this is a great weight-loss program,” says Dr. Bryan McGoldrick, CVO of the veterinary hospital. “Unfortunately, a lot of pets are overweight and we can put them into an

exercise day camp where we promote that play time. It can be a lifesaver.” Education is key at Royal Pets. Floor team members are trained in pet nutrition and can help “pet parents” select the food that is best for their dog or cat. “We have a sprinkling of boutique-type products – special leashes, collars and beds that you don’t see elsewhere,” says Denise. “We try to have things that are really different for the pet parent, as well as, your typical Nyla bone and Kong and every toy you can imagine, but we try to do special things, as well. The selection is great, but more importantly, the associates and expertise on the floor are really what is different here.” The experienced associates have the knowledge to ask questions about your pet to help find a resolution to whatever problem might be plaguing the pet and pet parent. Denise says, “We are really very solution-based to help you be a better pet parent. Having everything under one roof helps us build a relationship with the pet parent.” If the solution needed is medicalrelated, Royal Pets veterinary center has doctors available seven days a week. “This is a big benefit because on the weekend, when you have a little more time, a lot of vets are closed,” she says. “Our doctors are here seven days a week which gives us the ability to take care of every pet that walks through our door.” Dr. McGoldrick explained the many services provided by the center. He says, “Besides wellness care, vaccines and examinations, we offer so much more. We have digital radiology,

and a fully operational surgical center – really a state of the art facility.” Instead of worrying days for pet blood test results, pet owners can shop and get results in as little as 15 minutes. The hospital offers canine and feline wellness plans with monthly payment plans, helping to make maintaining pet health easier and much more affordable. Dr. McGoldrick adds, “When you go on our $49.95 wellness plan, you don’t have that scare of a big bill. You can get all your services for the year and instead of having to worry about a huge bill hitting you.” When their pet is not feeling well, most owners want to go to the vet, but the cost is prohibitive. With the wellness plan, owners get two free comprehensive exams per year and other office exams are $10 to see the doctor. The hospital also hosts a shot clinic every other Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Pets also can be pampered in the emporium’s grooming shop. Denise explains, “All of our services are all-inclusive. When a pet comes in for a bath, they get a tearless blueberry facial scrub. Think about when a pet parent gives their dog a bath at home. Most of the time, they stay away from the face area. We clean the whole head area, use a premium shampoo, clean their ears, and cut the nails.” Pets return to their owners smelling fabulous, dressed in a special bandana. In addition to services available, Royal Pets hosts adoption days through local rescues and provides fun activities for pets. From Halloween costume contests to paw print art, there is always something going on. Explaining the overall goal of Royal Pets Market and Resort, Denise says, “The only thing we don’t do at Royal Pets is sell dogs or cats. In every area, we built Royal Pets to a standard that we would want for our own four legged family members. We want the average family to be able to enjoy our services - The royal treatment at a value price.” The Royal Pets Market and Resort is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Weekday grooming/hotel drop-off begins at 7 a.m. Vet Center – Monday and Friday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, visit www.royalpetsmarket.com or call 813-448-6744.

Merson, Devyn Howard, Lauren Jarnagin and Jane Wickett. “The ultimate goal for our players is a college scholarship,” said head coach Tom Sladden, who couldn’t be more proud. “Most of the team has been together for the past three years.” In addition to Sladden, the team coaches are Jason Jarnagin, Bryan Williams and Tim Zweig. Coach Sladden gives the break down, “We played in the 2014 USSSA Fast Pitch World Series in Orlando, against a field of 53 teams from around the Nation. We played at several different complexes around Orlando/Kissimmee, including the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Disney. Our team went 9 and 0 in the tournament, even though it was double elimination, we didn’t lose a game. The last 4 victories came on the last day of the tournament. We scored 71 runs while allowing only 7! We had 5 shutouts in the 9 games and committed only 4 errors. The scores of our games were: 14-0, 13-3, 12-0, 2-0, 5-1, 14-2, 3-0, 4-1

and 4-0 in the championship game. We played teams from Georgia, Chicago, Indiana, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and South Florida. The West Virginia team –

the Baseburners – we defeated twice, the last one was the championship game, 4-0.” Sladden added, “All of the 13 girls had huge contributions and 2 of our players were recognized for outstanding performances – Jenna Wojnar was named the Overall Tournament MVP and Natalie Zweig was named Best Offensive Player.” Looking forward to more winning seasons; there is only a short break for these young athletes. Coach Sladden knows what it takes on the part of the team members and their parents, stating, “We will take a couple weeks off, then its back to work for the Fall/Winter season. Fast pitch travel softball is a year around sport.
