Happy Thanksgiving from New Tampa Lifestyles As the holidays quickly approach, bringing along with them a whirlwind of festivities and celebrations, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving from all of us here at the New Tampa Lifestyles. From our dedicated advertisers to our loyal readers, it is you we have to thank for our continued success and growth over the past few years. It is all of us working together that keeps our community strong – from our local business owners to all the other hardworking employees and entrepreneurs that call this area home. To so many, Thanksgiving is not just about getting together and celebrating with family and friends over a delicious meal of turkey, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie, but also signifies a time to reflect on the past year and give thanks for the many blessings in their lives – including the

joyous opportunity to be united for such an occasion. This Thanksgiving I would like to take the opportunity to say how grateful I am to be part of such an extraordinary community! The past few years I have been writing for the Neighborhood News & Lifestyles, and now also the New Tampa Lifestyles, I have had the chance to meet so many amazing local business owners and they have really left a lasting impression! They are some of the most dedicated, honest, hard-working people I have ever met, who, no matter how busy, will still find time and money to support local school programs, athletics programs and many other great charities. It has been a real pleasure getting to know the people in this community and I look forward to many great years to come! The New Tampa Lifestyles team

would also like to thank you, all of our readers, for your continued support over the past year. We wish you a prosperous and bountiful Thanksgiving and many happy years to come! This Thanksgiving, millions of people across the country will come together with their closest friends and family. Wherever you may be and however you may celebrate, I encourage you to think about the many things in your life that you have to be thankful for and take a moment to

show gratitude and appreciation. As Henri J.M. Nouwen once said, “Gratitude goes beyond the ‘mine’ and ‘thine’ and claims the truth that all of life is a pure gift. In the past I always thought of gratitude as a spontaneous response to the awareness of gifts received, but now I realize that gratitude can also be lived as a discipline. The discipline of gratitude is the explicit effort to acknowledge that all I am and have is given to me as a gift of love, a gift to be celebrated with joy.”

Aimee has always enjoyed writing and welcomed the challenge of non-fiction. “As a teacher, I like to take complex topics and make them bite-sized for little guys,” she says. The topics of play also appealed to her. She’s an athlete, coach and sports fan. Ever since she was little, she made up games to play with her brother and friends. Now she loves creating games for her PreK3 class!

Kids love The Color Wheelz! Adults love The Color Wheelz! Everybody loves The Color Wheelz! The Color Wheelz is perfect for creative birthday celebrations, unique corporate team building events, couples get-togethers, and girls’ nights in! Plus, The Color Wheelz is available for after school art programs and has offered 4-week programs at several schools in the area including Classical Prep, Countryside Montessori and

Lutz Prep. Owner Jennifer Houston is a busy mother of four who started her business, The Color Wheelz, just over a year ago. With four kids close in age, this busy mom impressed her husband and her friends with her amazing ability to corral the kids into a group and keep them completely absorbed in painting, gaining confidence in their own creativity with every stroke of the paintbrush. Soon, word got around that Jen had a real talent for teaching art to kids – she had the skill, the patience, the supplies – and she started getting requests from friends to do birthday parties. What started as a hobby and a way to keep her own children and

their playmates happily engaged and occupied turned into a small business and The Color Wheelz has been gaining popularity ever since, and not only with children. Adults wanted in on the painting party fun too! Moms who saw their kids blossoming into little artists started asking Jen to bring The Color Wheelz to their houses for a Moms Night!

Kids Love The Color Wheelz! Jen says that parents are amazed at what their children learn in only

four weeks with The Color Wheelz after school art program. It includes one hour of instruction each week for 4 weeks, 16x20 canvas, use of aprons, easels, paints, brushes and drop cloths. Children learn through step-by-step instruction how to complete their own masterpiece using acrylic paint. They learn to mix colors, practice proper brush techniques, while using patience and learning to pay attention to detail. Painting a complete picture gives them a sense of accomplishment and in the safe, fun environment that The

New Tampa Lifestyles

Color Wheelz brings, kids find the courage to explore their own creativity. Jen usually has the children incorporate their handprints into their painting making it extra special for parents who know too well how fast those little fingers grow! Birthday parties are a huge hit with kids. Jen says, “I have a lot of parents tell me, ‘Wow, this is the most relaxed party ever!’ The kids really stay focused on their paintings.” Kids always get a break midway during the parties for food and snacks and cake is usually served at the end while the paintings dry. Parties for children aged five and over include one-and-ahalf hours of instruction for up to 10 painters, 16x20 gallery wrapped canvas and the use of easels, aprons, paints and brushes. Specially designed for preschoolers under 5 and “mommy & me” events, Color Wheelz offers unique classes which include a 12x16 canvas that the children paint the background on and then the parents help paint their handprints or footprints and finish the painting while the tots get their faces painted. Kids’ parties are $200 for parties of ten, with an additional $20 for each extra child. The Color Wheelz is a participant in the Wiregrass Rancher Kids Club, which provides free fun activities for pre-school aged children at the Wiregrass Mall. Check the event calendar at www.theshopsatwiregrass.com for the dates of upcoming events.

The Color Wheelz is perfect for creative birthday celebrations, unique corporate team building events, couples get-togethers, and girls’ nights in! They offer classes for both children and adults, and travel throughout Tampa Bay, bringing all the art supplies, as well as the instructor! vas, The Color Wheelz also teaches classes in painting wine glasses. Wine goes so well with painting parties, and now you can create your own hand painted wine glass!

Great fun for girls’ nights, moms’ nights, bridal parties, birthdays and just for no reason at all except to have

fun painting with friends, The Color Wheelz may have started out as a business focused on children, but the adults in the neighborhood said, “Move over kiddos, it’s our turn!” The Color Wheelz has a gallery on its website with many great designs to choose from that are simple enough that everyone can create their own masterpiece. If you don’t see something you want to paint from the gallery, Jen will listen to what you and your group want, and will come up with a unique design just for you. “Our gallery is continually growing, but I always give customers the option and I’ll be happy to paint something new for them,” says Jen. “I’ve had people who have wanted a particular color scheme to match a room. Really the sky is the limit.” In addition to paintings on can-

Let the Savings Begin! The Tampa Premium Outlets in Lutz is Now Open! By Julie Kanehl Tampa Premium Outlets is the long-awaited outlet mall that has Lutz and Wesley Chapel at the center of a lot of attention! Located at 2300 Grand Cypress Drive in Lutz, just off of S.R. 56 and west of I75, its location is convenient to all of Tampa Bay. Tampa Premium Outlets opened its doors on October 29th at 10 a.m. to excited crowds, impressive lines and of course, a lot of great deals. Owned by The Simon Property Group, which owns retail properties in 37 states and Puerto Rico, Tampa Premium Outlets has a lot of experience designing crowd-pleasing retail centers like this one. Their Grand Opening event included music, fireworks, and the opening of 103 stores, including popular brands like Coach, Nike Factory, Vera Bradley, Calvin Klein, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Michael Kors. Anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th, Tampa Premium Outlets is a 441,000 sq. ft. retail center that has more than 20 shoe stores, alone. Add in some fun dining options like Johnny Rockets (which will actually be opening on November 12th), a playground area for the kiddos, and savings that you just won’t find at other malls, and it’s no surprise that people are flocking to the new shopping center in droves!

Grand Opening Success! The main courtyard at Tampa Premium Outlets was abuzz throughout the day with live entertainment, contests and giveaways, and even stilt walkers made the rounds as many guests lined up at their favorite stores, eager to be one of the first ones in the door. Many of the stores offered gifts to the first 100 people inside, like Helzberg Diamonds, who offered a free pearl bracelet and extra savings to their first customers. There was a lot of excitement for kids of all ages at the Disney Outlet Store, as they gave away special edition Mickey ears to their first paying customers while supplies lasted. While many retailers used coupons, giveaways and outlet exclusives to garner excitement, some stores just needed to be there-like the Coach store, which had a line snaking half way down the corridor before the mall

even opened. Some of these stores are simply beautiful from a retail standpoint. Immaculately merchandised, every store displays its brand with pride: Stores like Swarovski simply sparkled, Kitchen Collection has you wanting to become a chef, and did I mention that there’s a Lindt Chocolate and an Auntie Anne’s? All the excitement and crowds aside, the employees of Tampa Premium Outlet and of the individual

outlet stores were simply fantastic. Everyone was super-informative, helpful and while the mall was busy, it was a pleasurable place to shop! I spoke to one local shopper who came to the Grand Opening with her mom and her two young children, she said, “I’ve gotten some great deals! I’m really happy we came. The lines to pay are long, but worth it.” She also said, “I really like that there are lots of areas to sit and rest between shopping!”

Simon Properties did a great job of designing the shopping center to have plenty of seating, so that while there are more than a hundred great shops to see, it doesn’t have to feel like a marathon.

Dr. Duga, Dr. Feeney & Associates Pediatric Dentistry – Preventative Dental Care for Infants, Children & Teens Once in a while you happen to meet people that make you feel as if you’ve known them forever, and both Dr. Duga and Dr. Feeney, with their warm smiles and welcoming attitude, make you feel exactly this way. Picking the right pediatric dentist can be a scary task. So many questions come to mind when thinking about the best fit for your child. I can assure you, you have come to the right place at Dr. Duga, Dr. Feeney & Associates Pediatric Dentistry. The, compassionate, caring staff will help take fear out of the equation and allow you and your child to feel relaxed and welcomed. At Dr. Duga, Dr. Feeney & Associates Pediatric Dentistry, they understand that you want the very best for your son or daughter and providing him or her with the most comforting care is always a top priority at their office. The Doctors and their staff welcome you and your children into an atmosphere of fun and happiness, as well as an educational and focused en-

vironment. Your child will always come first in their office, so instead of a place of fear or anxiety, which many children experience when just thinking about the dentist, your child will be excited to visit! Located in New Tampa at 15293 Amberly Drive in the Somerset Professional Park, this under the sea-themed pediatric dental office is cheerful, fun and right here in your own backyard! Patients are treated like family by the doctors and staff and every effort is made to ensure that your child’s dental visit is a great experience for the whole family. Dr. Duga, Dr. Feeney, and their staff are helpful in every way – from making your child feel excited about coming to the dentist to navigating the insurance companies for you. Just take a look around the room and it’s evident that the staff loves their job. Smiling faces and laughter light up every room. After speaking with Dr. Duga and Dr. Feeney it was immediately clear to

me that they absolutely love kids, and to me, that’s the most important thing. As the saying goes, you have to love what you do to be the best at what you do. Taking this into consideration, it’s no wonder why so many New Tampa families trust their children with the care of Dr. Duga and Dr. Feeney.

When I asked Shawna AdamsFeeney, DMD what she loved most about her job she immediately smiled and said, “Everything! From the first meeting with a sometimes-nervous kid and helping him to feel comfortable with us, to later on down the road, when that same kid comes in and tells us he couldn’t wait to come see us

again. I’ve been working with Dr. Duga for over 10 years now and have learned so much from him; but I think I learn just as much from the kids! I really do have the best job in the world with the best people around me. I couldn’t have asked for more!” “It really is all about the kids,” says Paul H. Duga, DDS, who truly enjoys working with kids of all ages into their young adulthood. Dr. Duga is very impressed with the youngsters growing up in the New Tampa area. He lights up when he talks about the future. “We have so many cool patients; I enjoy listening to them – the future looks bright to me, not scary, because there are some great kids coming up.” Dr. Duga and his wife Sue moved to the New Tampa area to raise their three children because of the positive family-oriented lifestyle that the area promotes. They love it here and we are very happy to have them in our community! Twelve years ago, after already having a successful practice, Dr. Duga decided to create his perfect vision of a pediatric dental office. The result is magnificent! Efficient, vibrant, energetic, with an open treatment area as well as private treatment rooms, this practice is perfect for kids of all ages, from toddlers at their first check-up to teens needing their wisdom teeth extracted. The waiting room is huge, lined with plenty of comfortable chairs for parents and siblings alike. Speaking of siblings, the office has an entire area devoted to brothers and sisters of patients that may not have an appointment that day but still wanted to come along and have some fun in the office. How many dental offices can say that brothers and sisters actually want to come along for their sibling’s appointments? Not very many, I’m sure! Dr. Duga and Dr. Feeney both feel that education is a key component

in providing excellent pediatric dental care. They take time to teach their young patients to care for their teeth and foster life-long habits that will help keep them healthy. “We want to get them on the right track,” says Dr. Feeney. “As a pediatric practice, our focus is prevention more than anything – we want to teach our patients to have good habits.” And, it seems to be working. Dr. Duga shares, “We look at the longterm; we want each child to be healthy now and to have a healthy future. Most of our teen patients have great teeth – no cavities, no fillings – and they’ll go through life with healthy teeth and gums. I tell the staff all the

Both have families of their own and when providing a positive dental experience to their patients, one thing resonates above all else – it’s a simple concept, as Dr. Duga says, “Dr. Feeney and I treat our patients the way we’d want our kids treated.” Patients truly appreciate the care their children receive from Dr. Duga, Dr. Feeney and their staff. Tampa Local Completes Basic Training at West Point

Cadet Brandon Gauthier Shively, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Shively of Tampa, FL, completed Cadet Basic Training at the U.S. Military Academy. Shively entered West Point on June 29 and has successfully completed six weeks of CBT. CBT is one of the most challenging events a cadet will encounter over the course of their four years at the academy. The initial military training program provides cadets with basic skills to instill discipline, pride, cohesion, confidence and a high sense of duty to prepare them for entry into the Corps of Cadets. Areas of summer instruction included first aid, mountaineering, hand grenades, rifle marksmanship and nuclear, biological, and chemical training. Shively began classes Aug. 17. The West Point curriculum offers 37 majors balancing physical sciences and engineering with humanities and social sciences leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. Shively graduated from Tampa

Catholic High School. He plans to graduate from West Point in 2019 and be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
