Tarpon Springs based charity Wheelchairs 4 Kids proves that children in wheelchairs can accomplish amazing things! The organization took many of their kids water skiing at U Can Ski 2 in Winterhaven. The kids had the time of their lives and more than one parent shed a tear watching their child do something they never dreamed possible. U Can Ski 2 is a nonprofit located in Winter Haven that takes people with disabilities water skiing with adaptive equipment. It is run out of the home of World Champion Disabled Water skier, Ann O’Brine-
Satterfield. “This was the most amazing day,” stated Wheelchairs 4 Kids Executive Director Madeline Robinson, “I was a little nervous planning this event, but once I saw the safety precautions in place and the massive smiles on our kids’ faces I knew we had made the right decision! We will definitely be back next year.” Eight-year-old Brian loved skiing and was able to ski unaided on his first run! In his words, “It was spectacular!” Roby’s mom, Robyn had tears in her eyes when she saw the guides let go and he was skiing by himself.

Trinity Family Physicians Announces the First Recipient of the Tampa Bay Making A Difference Award Dr. Amir Shirmohammad and Dr. Stephanie Eldridge appreciate the great response to the inaugural Trinity Family Physicians’ Tampa Bay Making A Difference Award. Trinity Family Physicians announced the Award in Neighborhood News & Lifestyles publications in July and now the physicians are excited to announce the first recipient of the Tampa Bay Making A Difference Award. Dr. Shirmo (as his patients affectionately call him) presented Jim Carow with a beautiful gift basket donated from partnering sponsor Grille 54 that was filled with wine, cheese, crackers and of course, a gift certificate to enjoy a delicious dinner at Grille 54. Nominated for his volunteer work with the IWork program at Idlewild Baptist Church in Lutz, Jim Carow makes a difference in the lives of others here in Tampa Bay! Dr. Shirmo met with Jim Carow and his wife Mary to learn more about the volunteer work they do and he shared the reason that he and Dr. Eldridge created the Tampa Bay Making A Difference Award. “My wife and I

wanted to start a program where we could give back for a worthwhile cause,” said Dr. Shirmo. “Dr. Eldridge said right away, ‘Why don’t we give out an award to people in our community who are making a difference in the daily lives of others?’ We both loved the idea!” Dr. Eldridge and Dr. Shirmo grew up in Tampa Bay, fell in love in Tampa Bay, went away to earn medical degrees together and then came back to the area to open a family medical practice and raise their own family. They look for ways to promote good in the community they love and though it has been a busy time for the husband-and-wife team – Dr. Eldridge just gave birth to their third daughter in August and Dr. Shirmo volunteers as one of the team physicians for his alma mater Jesuit High School – they still found a way to honor others who are making a difference with Trinity Family Physicians’ Tampa Bay Making A Difference Award. There were some exceptional nominees and it wasn’t an easy deci-

sion for Trinity Family Physicians but they kept coming back to one email with a nominee who seemed to exemplify everything that the Tampa Bay Making A Difference Award is meant to represent. Wendy McDonnell wrote, “I would like to nominate Jim Carow Dr. Shirmohammad (L) presents Jim Carow (R), the 1st for your Tampa recipient of the Tampa Bay Making a Difference Award, Bay Making a Difwith a beautiful basket donated from sponsor Grille 54. ference Award. there would be more hopeless people unemployed in our community, that’s why he should win your next award.” Jim Carow Makes A Difference in Tampa Bay! Jim Carow makes a lasting difference in the lives of others by teaching them invaluable job-seeking skills, but he is humble about his involvement with Idlewild Baptist Church’s IWork program, saying, “I don’t do this alone! We have phenomenal volunteers who have been helping from day one.” The IWork program was started more than six years ago. One of the pastors came to Jim, who had a long career in recruiting for the healthcare industry, and asked him to help start a program that would focus on helping people who were actively seeking a job. While IWork does not find jobs for people, it does offer fellowship along with a workshop that teaches networking and interviewing skills. Pastor Phillip Hanes said of Jim Carow, “He is a fine man and there is a great team of volunteers who work with him. We are very thankful for this program, which hosts 25 to 60 people every Monday night.” Jim can’t say enough about the volunteers (some first came to the
group seeking help) who put so much heart into the IWork program that it has morphed into much more than a workshop. It is fellowship and caring. “When we had our first meeting, we thought it would be about strategy, networking, Linked In…and we do all that, but it is so much more. The methods we teach work at all levels. We have all kinds of people from physicians to 19-year-olds wanting to find summer jobs. We just give people hope.” He recalls the early planning of IWork with a laugh, “When they said we have to feed people, I said, ‘Do we really have to? Does every Baptist function have to include feeding people? Can’t we just teach them?’ But they were right. I realized early on that for some, this was their only meal of the day. We’ve got stories that will melt your heart and we’ve got stories that will send you to the moon.” The IWork program has built in a couple of traditions. Every year they have an “Office Party” Christmas Party and put Publix gift cards under the tree. Jim recalls one young woman who had lost her car and was losing her house; she was depressed and almost didn’t come to IWork’s office party when she got the voicemail but decided to ride her bike. Jim recalled,
Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
“She burst into tears upon opening her card and finding that she had $25 for food. She said, ‘This will last me a week!’ And then a man walked over to her and handed her his Publix gift card.” Remarkable! Another tradition happened purely by accident. Sharon had been looking for a job for two years when she decided to go to IWork on Monday nights. After a couple of meetings, she got a job and to celebrate, bought a cake with her first paycheck and brought it in to share with the group. Someone brand new to the group that night got a job the same week and thought it was what everyone did so he showed up with a cake the next week. A tradition of celebration was born, and hope carries on at IWork. Dr. Shirmo asked Jim Carow if there was anything he’d like to see happen from the exposure of winning the Tampa Bay Making A Difference Award. His answer was much the same as Pastor Hanes – that other churches and organizations will offer the same types of support for those sincerely seeking gainful employment. Jim pointed out that there are other churches in the area that have similar programs. Log on to Idlewild.org for more information about the IWork program at Idlewild Baptist Church.

She received her Masters in Physics and worked with a large firm in Tampa as a Database Developer before opening the first Kids R Kids Learning Academy in 2006. Anitha says, “I grew up in a family of educators and school owners. I am very hands-on with the operation of the schools and I love working with children in our program. I enjoy decorating the classrooms to meet the age-appropriate practices for each age group, as well as supporting my staff to come up
with new ideas to keep children engaged during the day. I don’t believe in children having boring or stressful time in our program. I love to come to work and stay active. It is very rewarding seeing the children thrive in our programs.” Anitha raves about her Kids R Kids staff at the Trinity location. “We have been very lucky to find some great staff in New Port Richey,” says Anitha. “We currently have more than ten employees, many of them with CDA certifications and AA degrees. Ms. Alice is our director, has a BS in Elementary Education, and brings the experience of managing large schools for over seventeen
years. Ms. Kristy, our assistant director, also bring over seventeen years of experience in the childcare industry to our program. Put simply, Kids R Kids of Trinity is a place for kids to be a part of a program that enhances their lives, while giving parents peace of mind. Anitha says, “Kids R Kids caters to parents who have to go to work and need a place where their children can be safe while getting the best education and have it feel like home. We have computers, ABC Mouse and Spanish as part of our curriculum. Our goal is to provide a healthy and happy environment for our students through our programs’ guided curriculum.” Kids R Kids offers several different educational courses for different age groups including infants, toddlers, preschoolers, before and after school care, and summer school programs. Anitha says, “Our schools work with LLS (Leukemia and Lymphoma Society), St. Jude’s Cancer Center and Metropolitan Ministries. During 2014, Kids R Kids of Meadow Pointe raised more than ten thousand dollars for these organizations and our hope is to raise at least ten thousand dollars every year for these organizations. Kids R Kids Of Meadow Pointe has been very successful in supporting these organizations during last ten years and we are very proud of our parents and kids who help us to support our community. Learn, Live and Share the Good News of the Gospel at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church & Early Childhood Center By Julie Kanehl The Mission Statement at St. Thomas Aquinas is, “Learning, living and sharing the good news of the Gospel message,” and this statement is lived out each and every day in the parish, in the local community and all around the world as they seek to be the hands, feet and heart of Christ. To be a part of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church is to be a part of the larger, worldwide Church while also being family, one that serves the people and families of this community by offering convenient Mass times, an amazing Early Childhood Center, and enrichment programs that aim to connect people of all ages to a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. Located at 8320 Old C.R. 54 in New Port Richey, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church (STACC) has been serving New Port Richey families long before Trinity was even a glint in anyone’s eye. As the area began to grow, Father Thomas Earner offered the first

Mass for people in the Seven Springs area at Anclote Elementary School back in 1980! While the current church building wasn’t completed until 1994, St. Thomas Aquinas has been a constant for the people and families in our area. Today, the Pastor, Rev. Michael Lydon, whom everyone lovingly calls “Father Mike,” is joined by Associate Pastor, Rev. George P. Varkey, Deacon Melvin Dunphy and a dedicated staff. Together they serve the 2,200 families that call St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church their church home. The goal of St. Thomas Aquinas is to accompany you and your family on your faith journey, whatever your age and wherever you may be in your relationship with Christ. Assisting whenever and wherever needed, the St. Thomas Aquinas family is a very welcoming community that seeks to help each parishioner feel at home. One of the ways that they make it easy for the busy families of Trinity and New Port Richey is to offer a

available for all ages, and they offer ageappropriate enrichment sessions for children that are jam-packed with activities that foster an early relationship with Jesus. Faith Formation for elementary school-aged students focuses on the foundations of the Gospel, learning the Mass and preparing for Holy Communion. For middle school students, “The Edge” is an awesome program that meets Wednesday evenings for fun and fellowship, and

was created to meet the spiritual, emotional, educational and social needs of young adolescents in grades 6-8. Lifeteen™ is an awesome and dynamic Youth Ministry process that helps strengthen our teens in their relationship with Christ. Through Lifeteen™, kids have the chance to serve in various ministries throughout the parish, and they gather together weekly after Mass to have dinner, share and discuss the Gospel, learn about the faith and to have fun! All of these sessions are designed to continue to build a strong foundation, enabling them to handle the many tough challenges they face every day.
They also participate in many of the community service opportunities available at STACC, including the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, Hunger Walk, Operation Christmas Child and Feeding America, just to name a few. Add in retreat opportunities, fun summer camps and a great group of kids, and it’s no wonder that families love St. Thomas Aquinas. There are programs for everyone at St. Thomas Aquinas, from the PreK classes offered at their popular Early Childhood Center, to the Faith Formation opportunities for elementary school children, preteens and high school students. That said; you definitely don’t have to be a kid to be involved. There is a ministry waiting for you at STACC. If you’d like to complete your Sacraments or become a Catholic, there’s an RCIA process that is just for you. There are opportunities to grow your faith through Bible

Study, Book Clubs, Men’s Fellowship as well as many outreach ministries. Parishioners also enjoy getting together just for fun – for picnics, pancake breakfasts, special concerts and dinners. If you’re looking for a close-knit, faith-filled church community that really strives to be the hands and feet of Christ, visit St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Beautiful, welcoming and dedicated to serving its families and its community, all are welcome at St. Thomas Aquinas. The St. Thomas Aquinas Early Childhood Center Teaches Love, Faith & Compassion If you have young children who are between the ages of 2 and 5, and you’re looking for a pre-school or VPK program that will balance education, faith and fun – then look no further than the St. Thomas Aquinas Early Childhood Center (STAECC). Staffed with certified teaching professionals who love what they do, put the children first, and make every day an incredible day for your little one, St. Thomas Aquinas is the first choice for many local families. One parent said, “My youngest attends STAECC, and I can’t say enough wonderful things about it! My daughter has learned so much from each of her teachers over the years, between learning the basics of her ABC’s and 123’s to learning about Jesus, learning about manners, and learning about the community. My daughter can’t wait for school to start every morning, and always talks about what a great day she had at school, which always warms my heart. I know that when she’s at school she is having the best time, and I know that she is safe and well cared for by the teachers there, who have honestly become friends and family over the years. If you’re looking for a pre-school or VPK program for your child, St. Thomas Aquinas is the very best.” Affordable, friendly and dedicated, STAECC is a beautiful school, located just behind the church. Once inside the gates (which are locked for safety purposes during the day), chil-

dren and families are welcomed into their beautiful open-air courtyard where they often have parades, receive blessings and sing songs. Each classroom is equipped with a plethora of learning materials, toys and activities, and they have a large playground where the children run, play, swing and slide. They also offer “Lunch Bunch” opportunities where the kids get to bring their lunches and play together until 3 p.m. STAECC is a shining example of what a pre-school should be. It’s a school where children have the opportunity to learn about loving and respecting others as well. For example, when the children collect canned food in the fall, they actually take them over to the Food Pantry at the church, where they get to see how their collection makes a difference in the lives of others. While you don’t need to be a member of STACC (or even Catholic) to have your child attend, what many families truly love is the relationship that is fostered between their children and Jesus. They receive blessings throughout the year from Father Mike, and because he’s an excellent musician, he plays and sings faith-filled songs to the children. If you’re looking for a school that puts children’s hearts first, choose St. Thomas Aquinas Early Childhood Center, where they’ll be truly loved and cared for while they learn. St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church is located at 8320 Old C.R. 54 in New Port Richey. For more information call 727-372-8600 or visit www.stanpr.org. Because grout is a porous material, trying to remove stains is seemingly impossible. BJ explains, “Color sealing grout lines is one of the many
services we offer and it is definitely the most effective way to create a perfect, new look.” Using a step-by-step process, Grout Tech begins by using a cleansing product to remove all bacteria and surface dirt with special machinery. They will then apply a color seal (of your choice). Once the sealer is applied the grout lines will be permanently protected from any stains. The color seal also guarantees against cracking, chipping and peeling. Additionally, they will also cosmetically fix or replace chipped or cracked tiles, making your bathroom or kitchen tile like new again. Carla Bartow, a satisfied customer, shares her experience, “When BJ came out to give us a quote, she looked at the job and I could tell immediately that she knew what she was talking about. We had our family room, kitchen and dining room re-grouted. They also re-grouted the tub, shower and base of our toilet in our bathroom. They were fantastic! Not only were they professional and reliable but they also completed the job much faster than we had anticipated.”
Excellent Service Leads to Referrals Throughout the years, Grout Tech has grown through its many referrals from happy customers. People really appreciate that Grout Tech saves them time and money, but it is the excellent service provided that has really helped this business grow. Doris Strathearn, another Grout Tech success story, said that before calling Grout Tech her bathroom and guest bathroom shower and floor grout had deteriorated over time and the tiles were dull and stained. “The tile was in good condition but it was stained so we had Grout Tech come out and clean them and they turned out very well.” They were so pleased that they have already referred Grout Tech to neighbors in their community. Grout Tech can also remove and re-caulk around sinks, baseboards, tubs and showers serving to clean up old moldy areas and keep your dry wall free from water damage. From old to new in just one day! To find out more about Grout Tech’s services or for a free estimate call BJ at 727-768-6828.

If you think about it, your hands are one of the most important aspects of who you are, how you communicate and how you may come across to people when they first meet you. Often, the first thing we do when we meet someone new is to shake his or her hand, which is why a manicure can make a world of difference. Many customers have expressed that they feel their self-esteem is higher when their nails are done nicely. It makes a lot of sense, for many of us talk with our hands, and having beautifully shaped nails in the color of your choice is a bit like wearing a nice pair of shoes – it can make or break an outfit!

In fact, Turbo Nails has a Gel Manicure on their menu that begins with their traditional manicure, and then they add their amazing GELeration™ gel coat. Applied under a UV light,
your polish becomes peel, fade and chip resistant! Moira from Holiday said, “They did an amazing job! I gave them a “Pinterest” picture and they were able to replicate it perfectly. My nails look wonderful! I found my new nail salon. The salon is very clean and everyone is professional! They got me in same day too! Trinity Memorial Gardens Adds New Garden of Light, Niche Chapel & New Mausoleum Buildings Katie Thomas Beautifully landscaped, peaceful and compassionately managed - Trinity Memorial Gardens provides outstanding service to celebrate the life of passed loved ones, no matter faith or race. Part of the Trinity community and located off of State Road 54, Trinity Memorial Gardens serves the needs of residents with comfort, peace, and tranquility while providing a beautiful place for visitors to come contemplate the lives of their loved ones. Trinity Memorial Gardens is a full service cemetery, funeral home, and crematory,” explains General Manager Gary Saling. “We are fortunate that we can facilitate our families completely here on the property, without outsourcing, excepting certain services for our Jewish families.” The premises at Trinity Memorial Gardens are pristine with well-maintained, lush gardens, offering a won-

derful place for visitors looking to memorialize a loved one’s life. There is a special place for everyone at Trinity Memorial Gardens, whether it be in the Garden of Honor (for military), the Garden of Prayer, or near the beautiful Bell Tower or within the Rose Garden; the green grass, beautiful markers and sound of wind blowing the chimes make for a beautiful place of rest and reflection. Trinity Memorial Gardens is comprised of many different garden areas including:

the Southeast. Within the lovely interior, you will find crypts and niches of all types that allow the memorializing of family members. The beautiful granite, marble and stained glass interior make Trinity Memorial Gardens Mausoleum unique and brilliant in every way. Tasteful inscriptions in memory of deceased relatives and glass-front memory boxes are a wonderful way to remember what you loved best about a beloved family

member or friend. “Trinity Memorial Gardens is in the process of adding a number of new venues to the cemetery,” says Gary Saling. “The first new building is called a Niche Chapel, and will be comprised of mostly glass front niches. The atmosphere we are trying to create is a calming casual retreat to remember loved ones. Glass front niches provide the ability for a family to place their loved ones’ cremains in those glass fronted niches and then customize other items to place with the cremains.” Once the nice chapel is complete, Trinity Memorial Gardens will be adding another mausoleum building with all interior marble crypts, as well as two additional outside mausoleums with granite crypts. Gary says, “Those two areas will be centered around a 20-foot by 20-foot pavilion, which is there to provide a little shade and shelter during rain days.” Trinity Memorial Gardens also added a new garden called the Garden of Light, which is an all up-right marker garden, with much larger plots than the other existing gardens. Trinity Memorial Gardens’ commitment to excellence and the com-
passion provided to families is remarkable. The beautifully landscaped acreage with its many gardens and special places for remembrance makes difficult times easier for family and friends left behind. Trinity Memorial Gardens is located at 12609 Memorial Drive in Trinity. CARES Elfers Center Offers Delicious Dining, Activities, Travel, Bingo, Exercise, Art and Much More for Active Seniors! If you are a senior or have a senior-aged family member living in the Northern Pinellas or West Pasco areas, then you should definitely visit the CARES Elfers Center, located at 4136 Barker Drive in New Port Richey. The old Elfers Schoolhouse built in 1914 was completely renovated to house the CARES Elfers Center, and it is absolutely gorgeous with most of the original hardwood floors and original architecture still in place. On the day I visited, the Elfers CARES Center was a beehive of activity! The beautifully decorated Avery Branch Library at CARES is a satellite branch of the New Port Richey Library and is filled with great choices and comfortable furnishings for quiet days, but on the day I stopped by, it was transformed into a crafting class, where colorful fall wreaths were being created. In one quiet office, a volunteer was working one-on-one with a lady to hone her computer skills. Upstairs in what served as the original school’s auditorium, there was an art class going on, where each person was
40
working at their own level in making a lovely painting. The upstairs is lovely, with lofty ceilings and a preserved history; it is perfect for parties and dancing! It is available for rent and there have been weddings, graduation parties and celebrations of all sorts at the CARES Elfers Center. On a daily basis, the space is used for classes, such as the painting class, and the many exercise classes such as Silver Sneakers, tai chi, yoga and more. Seniors can find endless things to do year-round at the CARES Elfers Center. The calendar is packed with activities from Bingo, to crafting and art classes, karaoke, Tai Chi, quilting, and there is even a Travel Club. I took a look at some of the fun trips planned for November and was amazed at how affordable CARES is able to make these trips – and they are going to some great places! Some of the upcoming trips include the Hardrock Casino, a St. John’s River Cruise, Tampa Bay Bucs games, The Barn at Lake Alfred, trips to concerts, festivals, and even a Thanksgiving Buffet on the

Princess Yacht leaving from Tampa’s Channelside. CARES provides transportation in a beautiful new van that was bought with the help from generous donors. CARES Elfers Center Director Glenna Hileman says, “This is a fun place! I’ve been an entrepreneur my whole business life but nothing has been quite like this. I feel like every-

thing that I’ve done has prepared me for my work here. Our mission at CARES is to have the ability to encourage and assist seniors to age in place and have quality of life. The people who come here for enrichment leave a ‘footprint’ here and it is just so positive!” The volunteers at CARES are remarkable in their dedication to the
Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
program and to keeping the building in pristine condition. As Glenna said, “The machine that keeps this place going is our volunteers!” In fact, she said that after last year’s hours were added up, some had volunteered more than 1,000 hours! All you have to do is stop by the Center and you’ll soon see that this is a place that has become a 2nd home to its volunteers and to the many who come to use the Center. There is a happy, uplifting energy at the CARES Elfers Center and if you have the time to volunteer, this is an excellent place to start! Chef Ginny Seidle joined the staff of CARES and prepares delicious and
very healthy meals at the CARES Café, which are offered at a cost that is less than the cheapest fast food. Not only that, but the bright, open Café is perfect for visiting with friends. “We have gone from feeding about 10 people at lunch to about 50,” says Glenna. “And we don’t do fast food, we do good food! I am very particular about the nutritional value because for a number of our seniors, this is their main meal. Ginny and I do the shopping ourselves at Gordon Food Service. We have fresh soup every day and only use the freshest, healthiest ingredients.” Every month at CARES ends

with a special celebratory meal. At the end of August, it was an end-of-summer picnic with everyone’s favorite summertime picnic dishes. Holiday dinners are always special too, and it means so much to many seniors to be able to enjoy companionship along with their Thanksgiving Dinner! Save the Dates and Help CARES! CARES relies on donations and fundraisers to keep these wonderful enrichment programs going. “Hearing & Balance” Continued from page 1 Dr. Nikki Goldowski earned her bachelor’s degree in speech and hearing from Cleveland State University and her Doctorate in Audiology from the University of Louisville. She completed a clinical fellowship at Trinity Hearing & Balance Center before joining the practice. Improving Hearing with Advanced Technology According to Dr. Hansen 95 percent of people with hearing loss can be helped with today’s advanced hearing aids. The first step to better hearing is a comprehensive hearing evaluation at Trinity Hearing & Balance Center with Dr. Hansen or Dr. Goldowski, where they will determine your level of hearing. All patients receive a thorough examination before treatment options are discussed. Testing is performed in a certified sound booth for accurate results. There are two main causes of hearing loss: conductive (caused by anything that interferes with the transmission of sound from the outer to the inner ear) and sen-
42
sorineural (caused by damage to the pathway that sound impulses take from the hair cells of the inner ear to the auditory nerve and the brain), or a person may have a combination of the two. Following your comprehensive evaluation with one of the doctors, they will discuss with you how factors such as hearing aid style, size, technology, lifestyle and budget will work for your specific needs. Many times, Trinity Hearing & Balance’s prices are lower than large competitors’ chain stores, with the added benefit of individualized attention and fitting (unlike auto or average fitting), and the comfort of a 75-day money back guarantee. Tinnitus Relief – No More Ringing in the Ears! Tinnitus, or “ringing in the ears,” is when a person hears a sound such as whooshing, hissing or whistling that is not actually made in the surrounding environment. Trinity Hearing & Balance Center uses sound therapy to eliminate the perception of the tinnitus. During sound therapy patients listen to tracks of very specific tones created to fit the ringing sound the patient hears, creating a suppression of

the tinnitus. Tinnitus can sometimes be associated with hearing loss, but isn’t always, and can affect people of all ages. If you are having ringing in the ears, the doctor can evaluate you for tinnitus during your comprehensive hearing evaluation at Trinity Hearing & Balance Center. Vertigo and Balance – No More Spinning! Dr. Hansen says that dizziness is the third most common complaint among patients seen in outpatient clinics. For some people, dizziness/vertigo is a feeling of unsteadiness, while others can experience the whole room spinning around them. Many times patients can’t quite explain what they are feeling, but they know there is something different. One of the most common causes of vertigo is called Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). Trinity Hearing & Balance Center is one of only fifteen centers in the U.S. that has the Epley Omniax® System as a means to diagnose and treat dizziness associated with inner ear disorders. “As most physicians and audiologists specializing in dizziness know, the current standard of care for BPPV is a manually applied Epley maneuver

on an exam table,” explains Dr. Hansen. “However, we are now realizing that many cases are not as straightforward as we once thought. The Omniax System is the first technology that allows us to differentiate between the various types of vestibular vertigo, as well as to diagnose and treat BPPV, the most common form. With this tool we will now be able to do much more to help all of our patients with vestibular disorders.” Tyra, a pleased client, explains her

Dr. Hansen provides her patients at Trinity Hearing & Balance with state-of-the-art technology and one-on-one care success with the Omniax System, “I am a busy mother of 3 suffering from vertigo. I sought out the help of a local Ear, Nose and Throat physician who diagnosed me with BPPV. I had 2 manual Epley table maneuvers but the vertigo still continued. At this point, depression started kicking in. I was feeling frustrated, helpless, sick, and exhausted. After doing research online, I e-mailed Dr. Hansen’s office and Dr. Hansen responded personally. You don’t hear of that happening very often! She was very sympathetic to my problem and we made a plan for me
to fly down there the very next day. I jumped on a plane, rented a car and found a hotel near her office. Dr. Hansen met with me the next morning and treated me with the Omniax chair. I went back to the office the next day and there was no vertigo! It worked! I flew back home that evening and I have not had any vertigo since. That was three weeks ago! Within days, I started to get my energy back… the depression went away… I became my old self. This was truly a life changing event and I will be forever grateful to Dr. Hansen

“9ROUND” Continued from page 1 your cardio, rep those muscles and be done before they even break a sweat. “You can measure results in real time with state-of-the-art heart rate technology (MyZone) and burn up to 500 calories in 30 minutes. As a member, there is access to online nutrition and meal planning,” explains Anita Jones Hilliard, the owner of 9ROUND in New Port Richey. Located at 1326 Seven Springs Boulevard, 9ROUND is convenient to all of Trinity, East Lake, Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs, New Port Richey and beyond. For Anita, 9ROUND is the realization of a lifelong passion for fitness. Tired of the same-old workout routines, Anita loved the 9ROUND concept, and she knew that she wasn’t alone in wanting something more personal, more fun and more convenient while still being affordable. A Realtor as well, Anita infuses excitement and passion for doing what you love, and for loving your workout. She says, “Every day is different at 9ROUND! It’s a thirty-minute circuit, and each member benefits from a 9ROUND trainer’s guidance, motiva-

tion, and encouragement each visit.” 9ROUND was founded by Shannon “The Cannon” Hudson, a selfproclaimed fitness fanatic and professional kickboxer who wanted to share his concept with the world. An IKF Light Middleweight Kickboxing World Champion, Hudson opened the first 9ROUND in 2008 with his wife Heather in South Carolina. 9ROUND is an incredible concept that is based on the core principles of kickboxing, which includes cardio, strength training, and stress-relief. I mean, when was the last time you put on a pair of boxing gloves? At 9ROUND, boxing gloves are included! They’ll show you how to carefully wrap your wrists and hands to protect them

from injury, and you (yes you!) can be kickboxing in no time! The circuit works like this: There are 9 stations, and you spend a hot three minutes at each station! There’s no guesswork involved, as there’s a trainer within reach to assist you and make sure that you are exercising properly and challenging yourself. Each day the exercises at each station change, keeping each member challenged, fit and excited to continue, because at the end of the day, it’s having fun and loving your workout that’s going to help garner the best results. Maria, a 9ROUND member said, “Thirty minutes a day couldn’t be more fun with Mike and Gina, they al-

ways know just how to push me and I’m really seeing the results collect, I feel stronger, faster and slimmer than I’ve been in years! I’m addicted to this circuit, like an ever-changing obstacle course for my body!” Clean, fast-paced and always playing great music, the environment at 9ROUND is perfect for working out and having fun. Recently, the J.W. Mitchell High School Cheerleaders came to 9ROUND to check it out, and according to Traci De Leon, cheerleading coordinator and math teacher, they really got a lot out of it! Working with a 9ROUND trainer each visit is incredibly important. Have you ever hurt yourself on a piece of
Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
gym equipment? Done a step incorrectly in a class environment? Tweaked your back, pulled a muscle? These kinds of minor injuries are pretty common in big-box gym environments where members have to pay extra for one-on-one attention. The main thing that sets 9ROUND apart is the constant attention of a trainer, not your
first time, or your first three times, but every time, as a part of your membership. This can be even more important for people who have limitations due to injury, age or ability. Additionally, knowing that there is trainer on hand makes it safe and easy for people of all ages to come and experience all that 9ROUND has to offer. The first workout is always free, and Anita and the staff at 9ROUND encourage everyone to come on by and see how 9ROUND is unique. Together with Anita’s highly
trained staff, which includes Gina, Dee, Lauren and Mike, 9ROUND is ready to help you kick your fitness plan into action, kick those old workout habits and finally get the body you want and deserve. Jared Green said, “I have to say that I feel more energy, power, and strength from the great workouts from Gina. It’s so great to get it done and push your body to its max! It makes you feel so accomplished to go take on your day.” Anita says, “We really take the time to get to know our members. They can come in at any time and work the thirty minutes into their busy day.” She adds, “And every new member gets a fighter name.” When asked what her own nickname is, Anita says, “Shannon Hudson exclaimed, ‘Anita,
you’re an animal!’ while doing mittwork during training at the franchise headquarters in Greenville, SC. The name stuck.” Donna Havens said, “Amazing workout, awesome trainers and we love the way you can have your family with you. Ours range from 52 to 6... The accommodation to our disabilities and still getting the workout needed. Love all the trainers... Best place to join!” 9ROUND is located at 1326 Seven Springs Blvd. in New Port Richey, at the Chelsea Place plaza.
