Honest-1 Auto Care: Where Customers Come First By Melissa Mcenerney With all the hang-ups life throws at you, the last thing you should be concerned about is whether or not your vehicle is in working order. Cars need maintenance, however, and to prevent winding up broken down on the side of the highway, you need an unequivocal course of action. “But with my tightly packed schedule, I don’t have the time or resources to dispose of at just any mechanic,” you may be thinking. Trust me, I hear you, and so do the accustomed ASE Certified professionals at Honest-1 Auto Care of Carrollwood.

Since the location’s grand opening, President George Maajoun and his qualified ASE Certified technicians team have been dedicated to earning the trust and confidence of their loyal customers. Contrary to competitors, Honest-1 does not lay a finger on any vehicle without first looking at it from a customer’s perspective and listening to them while they voice their concerns, this is Honest-1’s Open Service Commitment. They firmly stand by their motto “Best value, best warranty, best service. Always Guaranteed!” See “Honest-1 Auto” on page 24.

Locals are Saying “Cheers” to Maloney’s Irish Pub

By Melissa Mcenerney “Why go far when you can stay local?” That’s the burning question the neighborly crew at Maloney’s Irish Pub is asking patrons. They want you along with your friends and family to feel right at home at their Carrollwood location off of North Dale Mabry Highway; and with a great beer selection, mouthwatering menu and cozy atmosphere, how could you not? Owners Todd Wingard and Brian Pfeiffer opened Maloney’s Carrollwood location in January of 2016, establishing it as the third in the Tampa Bay Area. Maloney’s Irish Pub, which also serves customers in Westchase and Downtown Tampa, is

notorious for creating a both jovial and festive atmosphere year round. Locals have made the pub their stomping ground, reveling in its savory food and excellent company on a regular basis. Maloney’s tends to anyone and everyone, calling upon customers of all ages with infinite appetites for food and fun. The pub is family friendly, encouraging a variety of customers to join in on the experience. Maloney’s stays open later than most restaurants, giving customers the opportunity to stop by for a drink or a bite to eat after hours. The kitchen takes orders until 12 am on weeknights and 1 am on weekends. Patrons are welcome from 11 am to 3 am all week long. The fun doesn’t

stop there though, as Happy Hour lasts from 3 pm to 7 pm Monday through Friday. As you can imagine, Maloney’s is ordinarily brimming with hungry customers on Friday nights. Extra parking is available in the nearby church lot for these occasions. The staff at Maloney’s Irish Pub gives the word local a new meaning. Many of the employees, including owners Wingard and Pfeiffer, are Tampa natives. Tony, the chef at Maloney’s, has resided in Carrollwood for over twenty years. “We are happy to be in the area,” he says. When it comes to attentive service, Maloney’s is second to none. Their employees are courteous, sociable people who go above and beyond to ensure your party returns a second and third time. The bartenders at Maloney’s are entertaining and highly efficient in their positions, leaving you with no reason to lose faith in their mixology skills. Maloney’s has had the same service staff since it opened at the beginning of this year. Maloney’s has everything on the menu from traditional Irish fare to gourmet pub dishes. Among their most loved entrees are the Shepard’s pie, burgers, wings and fish n’ chips. Matt Selby, owner of Neighborhood News & Lifestyles, had nothing but good things to say about the entrees he sampled when he accompanied me. He described Maloney’s staple Shepard’s pie as “just like the one his grandma makes.” After tasting The Stank Burger, Selby added “I’m not a big burger eater, but this one is very well-prepared. It has a ton of flavor, the perfect combination of spices and just the right amount of juices.” The jumbo wings come in a variety of unique flavors including Asian Sweet Ginger, Mango Habanero and Chipotle Jalapeno. Customers can scarf down a burger of the month, which changes every thirty days. The pub boasts homemade sauces, Shepard’s pie, burgers, onion petals and salads as well as fresh fish. Vegans and vegetarians are not excluded as Maloney’s Irish Pub has hummus, a veggie burger and many delicious salads on the menu. Guests can stick to their go-to drink order or venture out and try a new one with liquors from Maloney’s fully stocked bar. Choose from specialty beverages including but not limited to the Irish Manhattan, Moscow Mule, Celtic Cosmo, Old

Fashioned and The Maloney. Shots and drafts are also listed on the menu. Inside the pub sits a lengthy, spacious bar top. Whether you have a party of two or a party of ten, Maloney’s is happy and prepared to accommodate. Customers can also dine on one of the many tables available for seating indoors or outside on the patio.

By Matt Selby What if I told you the “good guys” from the “good ol’ days” still exist? We’re talking about the blue collar guys that treat you and your family as they would treat their own. At times, it seems like a thing of the past. If you spend five minutes online you’ll find negative reviews on many plumbing companies in the area. In today’s economy it’s tougher than ever to find honest, hard, fair work but we’ve found it. We found a company who will work hard for you and your family to fix any and all of your plumbing and/or septic problems. Most importantly, they’re a reputable and licensed company. I’m talking about Tampa Bay Plumbers! Owner Ryan Pelky demands excellence from everyone on his

team. “I take personal responsibility for every job no matter how big or small,” says Pelky. “This company obsesses over quality and our customer experience. I can promise you this…if you’re not happy with something we did for you, I will make it right. Go ahead and look them up next time you’re online and you’ll find glowing reviews from tons of satisfied local customers. You’ll find an Angie’s List Super Service Award, an almost 5 star review on Facebook (you can’t please everyone), an A+ rating on the Better Business Bureau, and an almost 5-star rating on just about every review site on the net including google which they boast a 4.8 out of 5 rating! That’s no easy task especially when you have competitors constantly hiring other

people to fake bad reviews online. It’s a sad world we live in but it’s a reality that not enough people know about. I guess what I’m saying is, even if you don’t take my word for it, you can trust the reviews of countless more people. I put my trust for all my personal and business plumbing and septic needs in the hands of Tampa Bay Plumbers; in fact, one of my best friends in the world, Ryan Penna, plays a paramount role within the company as their production manager. I trust Ryan and after hearing him talk so

highly about the company he works for I knew I wouldn’t regret hiring them. Tampa Bay Plumbers will be working on a model home I’m building personally here in Tampa very soon. As Mr. Pelky says himself, there’s no job too big or too small. Sometimes the small stuff is the most inconvenient – leaky toilets, clogged drains (because your kids are brilliant and decided their toys wanted to go swimming in things they shouldn’t), garbage disposal repair, superficial leaks and bursts all the way through

Welcome to Tampa: The City of Champions You want to be close, that’s the objective. Close enough to avoid a commute to your place of employment, close enough to take advantage of Florida resident amusement park passes and close enough to hit a warm, sandy beach in under thirty minutes time. Of course a large-scale selection of wonderful neighborhoods, artistic happenings, live music venues, exquisite ethnic restaurants and athletic stadiums wouldn’t hurt either. It’s necessities like these that hold monumental weight in the decision making process for current and prospective Tampa residents. Renters and buyers alike are drawn to Tampa’s charming neighborhoods and commendable schools. Residents can choose from a seemingly endless assortment of traditional homes and historic bungalows. This is sublime for those who find setting aside an hour to drive to and from the office less than ideal. Being that Tampa is a populated city, job openings can be discovered around every corner. Not one, but two amusement parks inhabit the Tampa Bay Area. Busch Gardens and Adventure Island are right around the corner for locals to enjoy at their leisure. Additional perks come in the forms of Disney World, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and Discovery Cove, which never exceed an hour and thirty minutes in travel time. Tampa residents can opt to take advantage of discounts for these attractions simply because

Moffitt Cancer Center Volunteers Making a Difference! During his 32-year career with the cruise industry, Malcolm Weathers traveled all over the world and retirement isn’t slowing him down. He visited Denmark this year and Africa is on the horizon for 2017, but perhaps the most meaningful trip he makes, is the one he takes twice a week to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. Weathers is often the first face patients see as they arrive for surgery and he’s the person family members rely on to stay updated during a loved one’s operation. Weathers is one of 700 volunteers who give their time at Moffitt. He’s been a volunteer since 2010 and earned the title of Volunteer of the Year in 2015. Weathers says, “Volunteering at Moffitt is special to me because I have a feel-good attitude when I leave. It inspires me because of the people I help. I see them and they’ll write me a note or they’ll send me a box of candy or cookies that they’ve made. I’ve gotten flowers. Because when they’re there for four or five, six hours it’s probably the most hectic time they’d ever spent in their life, waiting for the

28

SEPTEMBER 2016

results of the operation and then to see if their loved one is going to be okay. So you’re there to help them and that’s inspirational.” Weathers lost his father and several friends to cancer and feels volunteering at Moffitt is a way he can touch the lives of the patients. He has a lot of friends who volunteer with a variety of organizations to get out of the house for a few hours, but that’s not how Weathers views his volunteer duties at Moffitt. Instead, he looks forward to helping people and gaining inspiration from their strength. Weathers jokes that he sometimes walks 2 ½ - 3 miles on the days he volunteers. “At the end of the day you get in your car and you start to leave and you say, ‘I’m tired.’ It’s a good tired, if there is such a thing,” Weathers explains. “But, you feel like you’ve done something very rewarding and that’s what it’s all about with me it’s to take care of the people there, the patients.” Weathers estimates he’s touched hundreds of lives as a Moffitt volunteer. His motto is “never leave anyone

The volunteers at Moffitt Cancer Center find it very rewarding to be able to make a difference in the lives of those undergoing treatment for cancer in the dark” and he stands by it. He fondly recalls a woman who was waiting for her husband of 55 years to come out of surgery. He knew she was scared, so he gave her up to the minute information about her husband’s procedure and tried to help her

relax until it was time for her to meet with the physician. He says, “she walked out of the conference room and said, ‘We did it, Malcolm.’ I said, ‘No, well I didn’t do it.’ And she said, ‘Yeah, you were part of the team. From the surgeons to the recovery
