Sometimes embarrassing to talk about, urology concerns can be serious and should never be ignored just because it is an uncomfortable subject. As with any other health issue that requires a specialist, when looking for an urologist or urogynecologist, it is important to find a doctor who is credentialed, experienced, and skilled in their field, and when the problem is as personal as urological dysfunction, you also need a doctor you can talk to. Patients love that about Dr. DiPiazza; he makes them feel okay and safe with his humor and down-to-earth manner.

“I am so thankful that I found Dr. DiPiazza,” states a patient. “I had consultations with three other doctors before making a decision. I was so impressed that he treated me as if he had known me for years. I felt so comfortable with him. I knew before the appointment was over that he would be the doctor I would allow to do my surgery. He is very thoughtful, caring, very educated, and takes time with you and explains all the procedures involved. He is, without a doubt, the best doctor I have ever met.” A skilled surgeon, David DiPiazza, MD of Urology Specialists of West Florida sees a lot of patients

Medical Center of Trinity’s Women’s Imaging Center Superior 3D Imaging and a Team to Support You By Kim Thomas Early detection is the best defense against breast cancer, so if you’ve been putting off your yearly mammogram because you dread the experience of sitting in a large lobby with 20 other people who are waiting for imaging for everything from broken arms to kidney stones, then make an appointment at the Women’s Imaging Center at Medical Center of Trinity. Don’t wait for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, do it today and mark that mammogram off your to-do list. Located on the 4th floor of the Medical Arts Building at Medical Center of Trinity on State Road 54, the Women’s Imaging Center makes it easy to get in and out for your appointment, offering all imaging services daily, and the space is quiet and comfortable. But most importantly, the Women’s Imaging Center provides patients with superior imaging technology and a comprehensive breast care team that is focused on providing exceptional, well-rounded care to every patient, whether providing patient education, simple screening mammograms or bone density tests, or supporting patients through biopsy, breast surgery and reconstruction. The team even has a Breast Patient Navigator to guide patients and their families to the emotional support that is often needed when dealing with serious health issues. Imaging services offered at the Women’s Imaging Center include: 2D and 3D Mammography, Breast Ultrasound including UltrasoundGuided Biopsy, Breast MRI including Breast Biopsy, Minimally Invasive Core Biopsies, Stereotactic Biopsy, Lymphoscintigraphy, Bone Densitometry, and Ultrasound Biopsy. Dede Dickinson is the Director of Imaging Services and is dedicated to making sure that the Women’s Imaging Center has the latest technology

10

for imaging, such as the Genius™ 3D MAMMOGRAPHY™. This 3D imaging enables the team’s radiologist, Albert Chang, MD, PhD, to examine breast tissue layer by layer. So, instead of viewing all of the complexities of your breast tissue in a flat image, as with conventional 2D mammography, fine details are more visible and no longer hidden by the tissue above or below. Considered a breakthrough in the early detection of breast cancer, the FDA-approved and tested 3D Mammogram is clinically superior to the 2D exam, detecting 41% more invasive breast cancers and reducing false positives by up to 40%. “As a radiologist, I am excited to use this technology,” says Dr. Chang. “It completes our repertoire of imaging tools, making us even more comprehensive.” While 2D mammogram technology is recommended for most screenings, women who have very dense breast tissue, implants, or scar tissue may benefit from the 3D Mammogram. It’s reassuring that both are available, and if any other imaging is needed, it is right there. “If we do a conventional mammogram and see an area we aren’t sure about, I can order additional imaging right away, whether it is the 3D mammogram, ultrasound or MRI,” explains Dr. Chang. “And if a patient needs a biopsy, they are turned over to meet with the surgeon. Patients have told me that because we can provide for every need they have and a quicker way to an answer, just that alone gives them reassurance. We don’t want patients to have to anxiously wait for days or weeks for results.” Alene Wright, MD (*one of the breast surgeons on the team I was able to speak with) adds, “You can’t have a comprehensive breast care program without a team that includes a radiologist, a pathologist and a surgeon.” That is what is wonderful about the

Several members of the Comprehensive Breast Care team at Medical Center of Trinity Women’s Imaging Center at Medical Center of Trinity – patients not only have the best imaging available, but if a biopsy or surgery is needed, it is beneficial that there is a team already in place in the same building who love working together for fast diagnoses and treatment. A skilled breast surgeon, Dr. Wright adds, “We are here for patients every step of the way. We can take care of any breast cancer here. It’s important for people in this area to know that they don’t have to go elsewhere – we have a solid cancer program right here in this community.” [*Note: Medical Center of Trinity has several skilled physicians who provide care to the patients in the Comprehensive Breast Care program. and Comprehensive Breast Care program is accredited by the American College of Radiology in MRI, US, CT, NM and mammography, and is a Certified Community Cancer Program by the Commission on Cancer. Ivy Landell, RN is the Breast Patient Navigator, which is an apt title for one whose job it is to make sure everything is “smooth sailing” for patients. She is available to answer any questions, aftercare and support group referrals. She says, “We have resources available to provide education, bras, prosthesis, wigs and emotional support.” Ivy also has referral sources to help uninsured women. “Women should not put off seeking breast health care because they don’t have insurance. Instead of sitting around ignoring symptoms, they should call and we will direct them where they need to go.”

The above image shows the difference between a 2D Mammogram and a 3D Mammogram Screened and Fabulous! Penny Stevens is the Screened and Fabulous Coordinator for the Women’s Imaging Center and her job is to put some fun in the mammogram experience. Everything is easier with the support of friends – even mammograms! The Screened and Fabulous program is a great way to get your friends, coworkers, sisters and cousins to get a baseline mammogram screening. If you would like a pre-arranged time exclusively dedicated to you and your group of gals, contact Penny by phone at 727-834-4888 or email at medicalcentertrinity@hcahealthcare.co m to set up your Screened and Fabulous appointment, where wine and friendship make a party out of getting your yearly mammogram. In addition to duties related to the Screened and Fabulous program, Penny Stevens works to get insurance authorizations and helps to answer

questions for patients regarding their insurance coverage for procedures. A Better Mammogram Experience! At 49, I’ve had a number of 2D mammograms, and in my case, a follow-up ultrasound has been ordered for the past several years, so when I learned about the 3D Mammogram technology now offered at the Women’s Imaging Center, I was all in – mostly because I was curious if better imaging technology would cut out another day of missed time at work for an ultrasound appointment. I am happy to report that one quick 3D mammogram appointment was all that was needed for Dr. Chang to give the all clear; Ivy gave me a call to let me know my scan was normal. Not only were the results fast, the Women’s Imaging Center knows how to treat a lady. It may be adjacent to a bustling hospital, but when you step into the Women’s

East Lake Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

Imaging Center, you are immediately greeted and, after some brief paperwork, invited to an interior waiting lounge where assorted teas, coffee, granola bars and Lorna Doone cookies are provided – perfect for days when there’s no time for breakfast (that was me, enjoying mango tea and cookies!) or for patients who have had to fast. The low lighting, soft music, and cozy seating are more reminiscent of a spa appointment than an imaging appointment. Roomy private dressing rooms are provided for changing into the cozy (and even pretty) capes that open in the front but crisscross for full coverage. White cotton terry robes are available as well, but I felt quite comfortable without the extra robe. Private lockers with keyed locks are available for belongings and the key is attached to a bracelet you can wear on your wrist. Mammography Technologist Jennifer Kriel was simply excellent! Her friendly manner puts one at ease and it is clear that she is experienced at making patients comfortable during the all-important positioning that comes along with a mammogram. Jennifer was gentle, kind and genuine. If you aren’t convinced yet to make that call for your yearly mammogram, it may help to know that the Women’s Imaging Center accepts most insurance plans and offers a $60 2D mammogram screening including the radiologists reading. And did you know you can have a Self-Referral Mammography Screening? Physician

referrals are not required for screening mammograms, which are covered by Medicare and most private insurance plans. And for those without insurance, self-pay rates are available and the Breast Patient Navigator, Nurse Ivy, can direct you to the resources you need. The Women’s Imaging Center is housed within the Medical Arts Building at Medical Center of Trinity, located at 9332 State Road 54, Suite 401, in Trinity, FL. Find more information at www.MedicalCenterTrinity.com/womenshealth and for an appointment, call (727) 834-4000. Want to learn more about the Comprehensive Breast Center at Medical Center of Trinity? SAT AND ACT IMPROVEMENT: SPECIAL COLLEGE REPORT By Dr. Wayne Adams As fall begins, I have received an unprecedented number of requests for my SAT and ACT Prep Classes from all levels of high school students: seniors getting ready for college applications, juniors as practice and as part of preparing for the PSAT, and sophomores also wanting practice and preparation for the PSAT that is often given their sophomore year by different schools. Talking with many parents of high school students at all levels, they are focusing more on becoming educated about college admissions and standardized testing. I often answer questions about the key criteria used by admissions officers, how to reduce college costs, which college(s) are the best investment, and why my classes have proven so effective over the years. Five Key Criteria. The five key criteria for college admissions officers are class standing, GPA, SAT and/or ACT Scores, College Application Essay, and special activities or skills. The first place a student can really stand out is in their essay, and it often makes the difference between “admitted” and “thank you for

12

applying but ….” Great College Application Essays. I have written a 104 page guide for my parents/students titled How to Write College Application Essays that Colleges Will Love. It takes a student through the whole process “step by step” to produce an outstanding essay. This guide includes over 40 examples of essays that have been used for college application essays to all levels of schools, from Ivy League through many colleges in Florida, where I have helped students from all over the country with their essays during the past six years. Negotiating with Colleges. Did you know that you can negotiate with colleges? I have written a special report on How to Negotiate with Colleges that has saved many of my parents from $1,000 to $10,000 a year in college costs. Many parents are surprised that they can negotiate with colleges … you certainly can if you know what they are looking for and how to conduct the negotiation. Bottom line, colleges are a business that must have more revenue than costs; the key to revenue is more students; and they will negotiate. Today, no one pays “sticker price” for a new car,

For Ad Info 727-943-2946 • www.NNLFlorida.com

and no one should pay “sticker price” for a college education. The Shift to ACT Continues. The two key reasons continue to be that the ACT Exam has changed little (except for the essay), it is totally acceptable as a standardized exam for college admissions officers, and if a student takes the ACT then that student does not have to take any SAT Subject Tests (as most top colleges require for full consideration). Special SAT Bonus. As a special part of my SAT Prep Classes, I have incorporated a great deal from the AP Language and Composition AP Class because the Essay is a combinatin of the AP Lang and Comp Rhetorical and Analytical Essays. This includes over 100 key definitions that all students should know in understanding and analyzing literature and writing, and examples of “outstanding” Essays which we then break down so the student will know how to do the initial analysis of the prompt and assigned passage, why the sample essay is outstanding, how it was constructed … so that student can use it as a model to write an outstanding essay on any prompt and passage that may be assigned. This part of the course not only

SEPTEMBER 2016

helps for the essay, it helps that student in their regular high school classes. If you would like to talk with my further about your student, please contact me at 727-253-0639 or at wwa0811@mykolab.com. Dr. Wayne Adams is one of the top SAT and ACT Tutors in the country and a former Dean of a Graduate School of Business and Full Professor. His students have been admitted to Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Stanford, Princeton, Cornell, Duke, U Chicago, U Penn, Johns Hopkins, Georgia Tech, UCLA, USC, Boston College, Northeastern, UF, FSU, USF, UCF, Florida Gulf Coast, St. Leo’s, New College of Florida, U Miami, FIU, and many other colleges and universities; often with academic, athletic, or music scholarships. Normally, student scores increase 200 to 350 points on the SAT (Writing, Reading, Math, and Essay), and 4 – 8 points on the ACT. He has degrees and advanced studies from Harvard, Yale, Vanderbilt, Columbia International, and Luther Rice. You can contact him at 727253-0639 or wwa0811@mykolab.com.

Odessa Wildlife Rescue and Sanctuary, Where Love is the Reason By Marcy Sanford Andy Kline and his wife Brenda have been rescuing animals for more than 30 years. They started by giving homes to unwanted dogs and cats but about 12 years ago they had so many furry friends they had saved that they had outgrown their Carrollwood home. They moved to Odessa and discovered they had enough land to begin rescuing animals a bit more exotic than Fluffy and Fido. “Since we don’t have children, our animals are like children to us,” says Andy. “We have five acres at our home in Odessa and have been able to provide forever homes for many animals whose owners could no longer take care of them.” Over the past 12 years Andy and Brenda have taken in alpacas, zebras, and Scottish Highland Cattle. They have helped injured and abandoned foxes, raccoons, rabbits, and ducks. Today more than 60 animals are lucky enough to have found a home at Odessa Wildlife Refuge and Sanctuary. In 2015 the Kilnes began offering public tours of their sanctuary. If you’ve ever dreamed of petting or

Foster Homes Needed for Teens! Teens in foster care are just like other teens. They are in need of a strong, stable and caring adult like YOU who will help them become the person they are striving to be. When you open your heart and home to foster children, you open the possibilities for them...you foster hope. What does it take? You need to be at least 21 years old, have appropriate housing and be able to pass a background screening. You will need to complete a home study and 24-hours of special training called Professional Parenting. You must have adequate space and be able to provide for your family now—although you will receive financial assistance to help care for the child, you cannot rely on this to pay your bills. To be a foster parent, you can be single or married—have a family of your own or be an “empty-nester”. Please join us for our free informational session to learn how you can make a difference in the life of a teen by becoming their foster parent. Moffitt Cancer Center Volunteers Making a Difference! During his 32-year career with the cruise industry, Malcolm Weathers traveled all over the world and retirement isn’t slowing him down. He visited Denmark this year and Africa is on the horizon for 2017, but perhaps the most meaningful trip he makes, is the one he takes twice a week to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. Weathers is often the first face patients see as they arrive for surgery and he’s the person family members rely on to stay updated during a loved one’s operation. Weathers is one of 700 volunteers who give their time at Moffitt. He’s been a volunteer since 2010 and earned the title of Volunteer of the Year in 2015. Weathers says, “Volunteering at Moffitt is special to me because I have a feel-good attitude when I leave. It inspires me because of the people I help. I see them and they’ll write me a note or they’ll send me a box of candy or cookies that they’ve made. I’ve gotten flowers. Because when they’re there for four or five, six hours it’s probably the most hectic time they’d ever spent in their life, waiting for the

18

results of the operation and then to see if their loved one is going to be okay. So you’re there to help them and that’s inspirational.” Weathers lost his father and several friends to cancer and feels volunteering at Moffitt is a way he can touch the lives of the patients. He has a lot of friends who volunteer with a variety of organizations to get out of the house for a few hours, but that’s not how Weathers views his volunteer duties at Moffitt. Instead, he looks forward to helping people and gaining inspiration from their strength. Weathers jokes that he sometimes walks 2 ½ - 3 miles on the days he volunteers. “At the end of the day you get in your car and you start to leave and you say, ‘I’m tired.’ It’s a good tired, if there is such a thing,” Weathers explains. “But, you feel like you’ve done something very rewarding and that’s what it’s all about with me it’s to take care of the people there, the patients.” Weathers estimates he’s touched hundreds of lives as a Moffitt volunteer. His motto is “never leave anyone

The volunteers at Moffitt Cancer Center find it very rewarding to be able to make a difference in the lives of those undergoing treatment for cancer in the dark” and he stands by it. He fondly recalls a woman who was waiting for her husband of 55 years to come out of surgery. He knew she was scared, so he gave her up to the minute information about her husband’s procedure and tried to help her

relax until it was time for her to meet with the physician. He says, “she walked out of the conference room and said, ‘We did it, Malcolm.’ I said, ‘No, well I didn’t do it.’ And she said, ‘Yeah, you were part of the team. From the surgeons to the recovery

nurse to pre-op nurses and you, you’re a good listener.’ And that’s what it’s all about at Moffitt, you want to be there when the people need you.” Become a Moffitt Volunteer Moffitt volunteers are all ages and from all walks of life. Many have been touched in some way by cancer and have joined our team to help make a difference in the lives of others. One of the many benefits of volunteering at Moffitt is the satisfaction of knowing

Authentic Concepts Kitchen & Bath Design Gets Straight A’s on this Remodel and Redesign! Sharon and Andy wanted a dreamy, spacious master bathroom, and realized it would never happen in their 25-year-old space without the help of an expert. So they visited the stunning showroom at Authentic Concepts Kitchen & Bath Design in Palm Harbor, where ideas are in full bloom and expert design help is the standard. Conveniently located at 3265 Tampa Road at the Shoppes at Clover Place (near Mystic Fish restaurant), Authentic Concepts Kitchen & Bath Design is owned and operated by Glenn Rumer, a Florida licensed contractor (#C-11019) with 17 years of experience in kitchen and bath remodeling, with the last 12 years being here in the Tampa Bay Area. Glenn and his team, Gina Rumer and Designers Rebecca Peake, Emily Miller and Wendy Hilton, specialize in creating custom spaces, and have the skill and knowledge to take on any kitchen or bathroom-remodeling project, no matter how intensive. Glenn says, “I try to see the best potential

22

the space has, not only for design, but for functionality. I believe you need to marry those two in order to have a beautiful and functional kitchen or bathroom. Not one that is just a showcase, but that you can enjoy.” He certainly made Sharon and Andy happy! Though impressed with Authentic Concepts Kitchen & Bath Design, the couple wanted to explore their options. Sharon wrote about her experience in July this year, sharing, “I obtained several quotes for the work performed, which included a total new design in the master bath. The bathroom had a funky, large wasted space area that was a design challenge. Glenn and Authentic Concepts came up with a great plan, took our input and built on that. They are creative and more importantly, focus on providing value for your dollars spend. (One of my quotes for nearly the exact thing was $20,000+ more AND that company has spotty reviews!!) The work was performed on time and

For Ad Info 727-943-2946 • www.NNLFlorida.com

Glenn was on the job constantly, checking and double-checking to make certain all was well. “We had one ‘oops’ in that after the platform tub was removed, the hole under that was much deeper than

anyone expected. That created a delay (had to get a concrete truck to pout LOTS of concrete in there to fill it up) but Glenn had his workers triple timing to catch back up to the original schedule! There was constant commu-

nication between Glenn, his workers and with us – no surprises, no delays. After all was installed, I changed my mind (lots of women will understand). Glenn bent over backward to make

the changes and have some of the tile replaced and redone. And his fee to do so was extremely reasonable – I’ll bet he lost money on something that was absolutely not his fault!!!” Sharon continues, “Authentic Concepts also redid our laundry room and we LOVE the changes. His creative use of a shelf on which the washer/dryer now sit (instead of those $500 platform drawers) has opened up much additional storage, looks wonderful and gets a lot of… ‘I wish I’d though of that’ comments. My experience with Authentic Concepts has been outstanding. I’ve built two houses from scratch over the years and done a lot of remodeling as we’ve moved quite a bit so am well aware of the good, the bad, and the worst ever. His design was creative, very workable, very affordable, with quality products. The workmanship is excellent. The pricing remained as agreed to (except for my big Change Order) and no hidden surprises at the end. Communication was excellent throughout.”

Medical Center of Trinity Now Offering State-of-the-Art Genius™ 3D Mammography Exams from Hologic Medical Center of Trinity is excited to offer Genius™ 3D MAMMOGRAPHY™ exams, developed by Hologic, Inc., a worldwide leader in Women’s Health. [i] Utilizing advancedbreast tomosynthesis technology, Genius exams are clinically proven to significantly increase the detection of breast cancers, while simultaneously decreasing the number of women asked to return for additional testing. In conventional 2D mammography, overlapping tissue is a leading reason why small breast cancers may be missed and normal tissue may appear abnormal, leading to unnecessary callbacks. A Genius exam includes a three-dimensional method of imaging that can greatly reduce the tissue overlap effect. A 3D MAMMOGRAPHY™ exam includes both 2D images and tomosynthesis scans. During the tomosynthesis-DIMENSIONAL portion of the exam, an X-ray arm sweeps in a slight arc over the breast,

24

taking multiple images. A computer thenconverts the images into a stack of thin layers, allowing the radiologist to review the breast tissue one layer at a time. A 3D MAMMOGRAPHY™ exam requires no additional compression and takes just a few seconds longer than aconventional 2D breast cancer screening exam. 3D MAMMOGRAPHY™ is recommended for women of all ages and breast densities. The system allows our radiologists to more effectively pinpoint the size, shape and location of abnormalities. This leads to better detection and greater peace of mind for our patients. Large clinical studies in the U.S. and Europe have demonstrated the positive benefits of a 3D MAMMOGRAPHY™ exam. The largest study to date on breast cancer screening using the Genius exam was published in the June 25, 2014 issueof the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).[ii]

Findings include: A 41% increase in the detection of invasive breast cancers. A 29% increase in the detection of all breast cancers. A 15% decrease in women recalled for additional imaging. Medical Center of Trinity is committed to the fight against breast cancer. In offering the 3D MAMMOGRAPHY™ exam, Medical Center of Trinity provides a more accurate* tool for breast cancer screening. “I am particularly pleased to learn that Medical Center of Trinity is now offering this option. As a surgeon, early detection is always the best case scenario,” said Alene Wright, MD, breast surgeon. “This is another indication that we at Medical Center of Trinity are committed to bringing the very latest in diagnostic imaging capabilities to our community,” said Albert Chang, MD, PhD, radiologist at Medical Center of Trinity.

SEPTEMBER 2016

About Genius™ 3D MAMMOGRAPHY™ Exams The breast is a three-dimensional object composed of different structures located at different heights within the breast. These structures can overlap and cause confusion when viewed as a flat two-dimensional image. This confusion of overlapping of tissue is a leading reason why small breast cancers may be missed and normal tissue may appear abnormal, leading to unnecessary callbacks. Using breast tomosynthesis technology, the Hologic system creates a 3-dimensional image of the breast structure, which enables radiologists to more clearly see through overlapping tissue to detect cancers, often at an earlier stage. The Hologic system is the first FDA-approved breast tomosynthesis system in the U.S. Hologic Genius 3D MAMMOGRAPHY™ exams are now available in all 50 states and over 50 countries. To date, more than 8 million women have been screened with this advanced screening system.

“Best of Philly” Continued from page 1 A History & Understanding of the Best of Philly Cheesesteak House There are a lot of reasons to choose Best of Philly Cheesesteak House in New Port Richey – the great specials, the great food, the convenience of pick-up or delivery when you’re rushing around – but the best reason to eat at Best of Philly is that it is delicious! Best of Philly Cheesesteak House gives you the best in service, taste, flavor and portion size. Whether you want a traditional Philly, served like true Philadelphians eat them, or you want it made your own peculiar way, the quality is never lacking. Owners Mike and Debbie Natoli truly enjoy providing great food and service to their neighbors. Mike takes his cooking skills seriously, bringing original flavor and flair to his restaurant. He cooks what he loves and has visited the award-winning cheesesteak eateries in Philly many times to compare his to theirs. Mike and Debbie provide the real deal, a bona fide cheesesteak just like the Philly masters serve it.

26

The perfect Philly cheesesteak starts with a soft, delicious roll, and as any cheesesteak-lover knows, the roll is as important as the filling. The original Philly cheesesteak, as served in Philly, is either with or without onions. I like mine with mushrooms, peppers and onions. Mike says this is THE FLORIDA, so I guess it makes sense that it’s this Florida girl’s favorite! Add marinara sauce to The Florida and it’s THE SLOPPY. Other choices include: CHICKEN CHEESESTEAK, PIZZA CHEESESTEAK, and PEPPERONI PIZZA CHEESESTEAK. You can ask for extra cheese or sauce, extra meat, or to add bacon, salami or pepperoni. Choose from three kinds of cheese. Mike says most customers prefer white American, but provolone is available and Cheese Whiz for South Philly fans. Optional items you can add: mushrooms, hot peppers, green bell peppers, banana peppers, sweet peppers, lettuce, tomato. So Much More to Explore! “People love our cheesesteaks so much that they rarely try anything else, but we have so many delicious choices on our menu,” says Mike. “I

always try to encourage our regulars to try something new, but that is a hard battle to win once they have tasted our Philly!” Filling out the menu are a delicious variety of COLD HOAGIES (Italian, Ham & cheese, salami & cheese, turkey & cheese), and HOT SANDWICHES (grilled chicken, chicken parmesan, sausage & peppers, sausage & peppers parmesan, breaded fried chicken, breaded fried fish), plus a delicious fresh veggie sub. CLUBS include: BLT sandwich, BLT club, turkey club, or ham club. Other favorites are the bone-in wings, boneless wings, burgers, fish & chips and breaded fried shrimp. In addition to the wings, hand-cut fries and fried shrimp, there are many yummy SIDE ORDERS: whole deli pickle (can’t you feel that crisp crunch?), onion rings, fried mushrooms, mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, cordon bleu poppers, jalapeno poppers – hungry yet? You can get a side salad, fried okra, a 1/4-lb. all beef hot dog, macaroni & cheese bites, or a “tastykake.” The newest item on the menu is the Italian cheese fried ravioli available in a side item for $5.25 or kids meal for $4.75

SEPTEMBER 2016

One of my favorite treats at Best of Philly Cheesesteak House has to be what I call the “gone-in-a-minute” hand-cut fries. They are a perfect side for any club sandwich or burger, or just on their own with a side of gravy or hot cheese. Yes, gravy for your French fries is the ultimate comfort food! Pair those fries with any one of the delicious burgers, hot sandwiches, cold subs or even a variety of appetizers and you’ve got yourself the perfect meal! “You really can’t beat our burgers either,” says Mike. “They are cut in half, stuffed in a soft amoroso roll and piled high with your favorite toppings!” BURGERS on the menu include old favorites hamburger and cheeseburger, but there also is a pizza burger, mushroom burger, bacon burger, sloppy burger, and a loose meat burger. KIDS MENU items include a 4inch cheesesteak, chicken fingers, grilled cheese, cheeseburger, hot dog, Italian cheese fried ravioli, and alltime-favorite macaroni & cheese bites. All kids’ meals come with kids’ fries or chips and Oreo cookies!

“Dr. DiPiazza” Continued from page 1 Dr. DiPiazza completed his undergraduate training with honors at Cornell University, later completing his residency at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, and Princeton Medical Center. After six years of formal surgical training, Dr. DiPiazza began treating all aspects of urologic oncology, general urology, and the subspecialty of urogynecology. In 2010, Dr. DiPiazza was the Chief of Surgery at Community Hospital (now the Medical Center of Trinity West Pasco Campus), and he is well known and respected by his colleagues in the Tampa Bay Area. Dr. DiPiazza has been referred to as the “surgeon’s surgeon” and shares, “I get a lot of referrals from gynecologists and oncologists in the area, and when local doctors need urology or pelvic surgery, they come to me.” His colleagues trust him with their patients, too. He adds, “When people need advanced cancer surgeries, or they have difficult patients, they send them to me.” Experienced in da Vinci Robot assisted surgeries, Dr. DiPiazza has years

Dr. DiPiazza uses the da Vinci Robot surgical system to perform Robotic Sacrocolpopexy surgery, resulting in less blood loss, fewer complications, shorter hospitalization and shorter recovery time. The tools (above left) are tiny, and a large open incision is now replaced with five very tiny incisions - much less invasive!

of experience in laparoscopically removing tumors in the prostate, the kidneys, and the bladder. In the instance of kidney cancer, Dr. DiPiazza makes every effort to remove the cancer and reconstruct the kidney, in order to save it. “I can do this in most cases,” he says. “Many surgeons would just do the easier surgery of removing the entire kidney.” Over the past ten years, Dr. DiPiazza has helped thousands of patients to get their lives back to normal using minimally invasive da Vinci Robot assisted surgery.

Dr. DiPiazza uses Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery to Change Women’s Lives The minimally invasive da Vinci Robot is a great tool in the hands of a skilled surgeon, and has successfully changed the way that pelvic prolapse surgeries are performed. About 200,000 women have prolapse surgery every year in the United States. Prolapse means that the pelvic floor muscles and ligaments have stretched and weakened, reducing the support for the uterus. Sometimes, the bladder also descends. When the uterus or the

SEPTEMBER 2016

bladder descends into the vaginal canal, this can become both uncomfortable and embarrassing. Prolapse can cause women to have a feeling of heaviness or pulling in the pelvis, painful intercourse, difficulties with urination or with bowel movements and even protrusion of the organs from the vagina. Women needlessly suffer from this when they don’t need to. There is nothing to be embarrassed about, as Dr. DiPiazza and his kind staff can help you understand. Dr. DiPiazza uses the da Vinci Robot to perform what is called a Robotic Sacrocolpopexy. Prior to

A sling is used to help patients with stress incontinence technologically advanced robotic-assisted surgery, this procedure (sacrocolpopexy) used to result in a large scar and longer recovery time. Robotic Sacrocolpopexy is more safe for patients because of reduced blood loss, fewer complications and a much shorter hospitalization and recovery time than traditional surgery. Dr. DiPiazza performs surgeries like this multiple times a week, which means he is both trained and practiced, which is key when looking for a good surgeon. “It’s important to be a good surgeon first, the robot is just a tool,” says Dr. DiPiazza. “There’s a huge learning curve when it comes to female pelvic medicine reconstructive

surgery, but I’ve been performing vaginal prolapse surgeries every week since 2006.” Skilled and experienced at many types of procedures that help his patients enjoy a better quality of life, Dr. DiPiazza says, “Many treatments don’t need surgery and many surgeries don’t need a robot.” One very common problem for women of all ages is stress incontinence, but did you realize that Dr. DiPiazza corrects this annoying and embarrassing problem with a 15-minute procedure? One patient said, “I finally did it. No more leaky faucet! Dr. DiPiazza is great. He made my overwhelming plumbing problems go away. I was a mess. I had stage 3 prolapsed bladder, severe urgency issues where I sometimes didn’t make it to the bathroom, and severe leakage. I was avoiding taking care of it because it’s embarrassing. I finally decided the issues couldn’t be avoided. Dr. DiPiazza is a doctor you can talk to about these embarrassing issues. He did the robotic surgery so the recovery was shorter.” Stating, “Go! Don’t wait another minute. Dr. DiPiazza is great!” Education and experience give him an impressive bio, but when patients meet Dr. DiPiazza in person, it

East Lake Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

is his passion for what he does that makes an impression. He takes the time to talk to patients about their concerns, and to show them what can be done, and how. He is part caregiver, part scientist, and all surgeon. He understands the way the body works, and has experience working around the organs in the pelvis and abdomen, which is no easy task. And, Dr. DiPiazza is easy to talk to so there is no reason to suffer from urological or urogynecological issues. Make an appointment today with Dr. DiPiazza.
