I think differently than most people and come up with some great

Interior decorator and professional home stager Jodie Brown can help you take your home from ordinary to extraordinary. Home Décor. Jodie says, “I do a lot of redecorating for people who are bored with the way their homes looks. Some items can be reused differently than what people are using them for and maybe even shifted from room to room. I help freshen things up. It can be as miniscule as buying a couple throw pillows or the way pictures are grouped or displayed. I will make suggestions and even help my clients with shopping for new things. I can hold their hand all the way through if that’s what they need.”

Staging Your Home for Success! When looking to sell your homes for top dollar, proper staging can make all the difference in the world. “On average, staged homes sell 89% faster than a cluttered or empty home and also sell for up to 7% more,” says Jodie. Whether you have a home full of furniture that you need reorganized or have an empty home that you want to professionally stage with rented furniture, Jodie will come in and help to add visual desirability to your home. “It’s harder for people to go into an

empty house and imagine what they could do with the spaces,” says Jodie. I can add some furniture and make rooms look like people could live in them without personalizing them. Whether you just want to stage a few rooms or the entire house, I can do as much or as little as you want. I do everything, down to the accessories.” Jodie has really found a niche market in the Carrollwood area – working with homeowners who are looking to downsize to a smaller house. Not only does she help these clients redecorate to ensure the home is the most eye-catching and appealing, but she also helps them reorganize and stage their furniture. Jodie says, “A great majority of my clients are people who are getting ready to downsize. They are completely overwhelmed because they have no idea where to begin; what to pack; how to properly display the things they do have so their house doesn’t look cluttered. This is where I

come in. I will sit with them and go through everything and give them advice as to what they should take out and help them stage what is left. I have helped clients pack up their boxes, move into their new house, and have even helped them unpack everything and then redecorate all over again.” “I know I have found my true life’s passion,” says Jodie. “Even before it became a job it was always a hobby. I love redecorating and being able to imagine a vision and bring it to life.” To schedule a consultation, please call Jodie Brown at (813) 465-1080. When I started Cornerstone Air, Heating & Plumbing in 2006 with my business partner, we both knew we wanted a company that stood by old school values of customer service, one that put our customers first and made sure they were a priority. From new equipment installations to emergency repairs, their team of certified technicians and plumbing specialists blend innovation with old-school values to deliver 100-percent satisfaction. In fact, many of their technicians have earned their NATE certification, the highest HVAC certification in the business. At Cornerstone, they always keep your budget in mind and treat you with the respect you deserve. No matter if it’s a broken water heater or an air conditioner that’s not working, they will restore your comfort quickly,

dependably, and affordably. They offer a firm pricing plan that includes flat-rate diagnostic charges and flatrate repair pricing. They don’t charge by the hour; what you are quoted in advance is what you pay. No gimmicks, hidden fees, or exceptions. “After I contacted Cornerstone, Dana, emailed me right back and I set up an appointment for the following week and received confirmation by email,” writes one customer. “About four hours before the service appointment, I received a reminder call to confirm I would be home. The technician, Scott, arrived on time and in a uni-

form. He was pleasant, professional, and answered my many questions clearly and to the point. We have had many A/C techs and companies in the last 30 years. This company was the most efficient. Scott was "present" the entire time he was in our home, not taking or making phone calls and not talking about other customers or taking a smoke break. Most important of all for me was what he did NOT do – he did not say, “Boy, your last tech didn't know anything about a/c!” or “this equipment is really junk, you really got ripped off!" Instead, he gave me information about how each unit

was performing and made concrete suggestions without trying to sell me. For example, the main unit has a UV light. He showed me the bulb, which no one had before, and explained how it works, how he knew it was almost worn out, and suggested I replace it then or in the near future – no hard sell and no horror stories about germs taking over the house. My thanks to Cornerstone and Scott.” Cornerstone’s skilled technicians are there for you 24-hours a day whenever you need help. They make it a point to get to emergency calls within the same day so that you can

get back to living your life. Cornerstone’s comprehensive residential and commercial offerings include: • Air conditioning & heating installation • Air conditioning & heating repairs • HVAC maintenance • HVAC retrofits & upgrades • Indoor air quality consultations • Air filtration installations & repairs • Plumbing installation • Plumbing repairs • Plumbing maintenance Another happy customer writes, “Cornerstone was on time and called ahead to let us know the technician was coming. He did quick and excellent work on the shower faucet. Everything looks and works great and he was very professional courteous and helpful.”

Cornerstone services all brands and is always happy to provide you with a free estimate on installations or a second opinion on repairs. They offer 5-year, no interest financing and this summer are also offering a special on water heaters. Born and raised in the area, it is important to Dana that Cornerstone be known as a company that her community can trust. She and her husband, James Spears, also support local charities including Oasis Pregnancy Center, Relay for Life, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Doctor Henry Redmon is a leading professional in the field of Plastic surgery and he’s right here in Carrollwood! I’m sure you’ve seen Dr. Redmon’s ad’s in our magazine over the last year. If not, here are the details: Dr. Redmon is a graduate of the USF Medical School, where he also did his general surgery residency. Coming back to Florida in 1984, he has been in practice 31 years and has seen more than 30,000 patients! Dr. Redmon's honesty is a quality that is greatly appreciated by his patients. Dr. Redmon has made a name for himself. His work ethic and dedication is perfectly complemented by his precision and passion for plastic surgery. His thirst for knowledge and excellence has remained strong, which is why it will come as no surprise that for over eight years he has been named one of the top plastic surgeons by Tampa Bay Magazine. If you are having a cosmetic procedure, it is important to choose a board-certified plastic surgeon as your physician. Dr. Redmon will be the first to tell you that his continued success isn’t all due to himself. He very much considers his practice a team effort with his staff of Linda, Debbi and Suzy having their own unique touch. “They welcome you in and make you feel at ease. We have a lot of patients who come back for new procedures because they feel comfortable,” says Kathy Redmon. "Our office is very warm and our staff is very caring.” Dr. Redmon’s passion for plastic surgery is the driving force behind his practice and the reason why after over three decades he is just as excited to be in the operating room as he was on day one. “I love operating,” he says. “Every day is different and each patient is

Under Armour Co-Ed Flag Football League Beginning this winter in Tampa is a nationwide co-ed flag football league sponsored by Under Armour and Brothers In Arms Foundation. The flag football league was created to promote a competitive, confidence-building, non-contact football experience for all skill levels. In charge of the Tampa chapter is John Kaleo, former Tampa Bay Storm quarterback and owner of one of the top quarterback academies in the country (John Kaleo QB Academy). John says, “Unlike other flag football leagues, what made me gravitate to Under Armour was the format we are using; a 7 on 7 structure designed to delop each player’s skills. This means there is no pass rush and just a sack count, which allows the QB to set his feet and deliver the ball properly while receivers and defenders can develop the timing needed in the passing game. We also transition the kids from the 6 on 6 format into the high school 7 on 7 game through grade levels, so the 7th-8th graders will play under the HS 7 on 7 rules.” When asked what he enjoys most about this league John said, “I enjoy watching the development of our youth in the athletic arena as they

learn to compete while still showing sportsmanship. We also want to bring back the honoring of our Champions and rewarding them with medals and trophies, instead of everyone getting a medal for participation. The other thing that is neat about our league is we play our games on Friday nights so we have food vendors and music present for our families. This creates a fun atmosphere for everyone.” With most leagues running on weekends I’m sure parents will be happy with the Friday night schedule and keeping the rest of the weekend open for any other family activities. The league will consist of these core values and principles: • Competitive Co-ed league for grades K-8th • 6v6 format with sack count • HS 7v7 format for grades 7th-8th • 7 weeks of Games plus Playoffs • 9 players per team so everyone plays • “Friend/Team” request • Online shopping for discounted Under Armour apparel • Food & Entertainment for Families Proceeds will go to the Brothers In Arms Foundation, which honors fallen soldiers and provides funding as-

sistance to existing organizations, where the need is significant, with an emphasis on educational opportunities and financial assistance for service members, heroic community servants,

and their families. For more information or to register for the league please go to www.uaflag.com. The season runs from December through February.

“Holy Hog” Continued from page 1 awards for his unique, one-of-a-kind barbecue recipes. “Our recipes are ours all the way down to the sauces, rib rubs and butt rubs. We created them and that means our flavor is unique to anything else you’ve tried,” says Operations Manager Matt Strickland. The unique flavor is absolutely delicious, from their mouth watering meats, which are smoked in the pitmaster’s smoker, all the way to their yummy sides. Many restaurants skimp on their sides in terms of flavor, but you wont find any of that at Holy Hog! Their sides are highly decorated and well thought out. In fact, the jalapeño mac n’ cheese has won the Mayor’s ‘Mac n’ Cheese Throwdown for the past 2 years! I’ve personally bought this side in bulk for my office as a special treat. The pan size that normally feeds 25 people was devoured in full by 15 people in about an hour if that gives you any indication of how amazing this stuff is. It’s smothered in cheese and has just the right amount of spicy kick to really set off the full flavor. In addition to their famous jalapeño mac n’ cheese, the menu is filled with a huge variety of other homemade sides, including fresh, never frozen, collard greens, and other delectable favorites such as cowboy baked beans, corn fritters, homemade mashed potatoes, black eyed peas and fried okra to name a few.

MEATS FROM THE SMOKER Holy Hog offers a fabulous selection of seasonal menus - the holiday version is set to release right around the time you’re reading this article. The pulled pork was the first thing I tried on my first-ever visit to Holy

24

Hog almost a year ago and it’s been a constant craving for me ever since. The sandwich is piled high enough to put you in a relaxed state of “food coma”, so the only problem you might have with this sandwich is figuring out if you want to go back to work or take a nap. On my next visit I tried the smoked chicken, and being a southern boy myself, I know the difference between a good smoked chicken and the dry tasteless meat all too many restaurants end up serving instead. Holy Hog’s smoked chicken is absolute perfection, from the crispy outer skin to the juicy meat, all the way through to the bones. Drizzle on some of their famous BBQ sauce and it’s the perfect smoked chicken that is sure to satisfy your craving for delicious food! The Texas style brisket is another excellent choice from their extensive menu and is very popular amongst Holy Hog customers. Brisket isn’t something that can be taken lightly either - when it comes to brisket I tend to be very critical and only expect the best; Holy Hog is yet to disappoint. I have tried their brisket many times, and out of everything on the menu, this is my favorite! If you have never been to Holy Hog before, this is my recommendation for you, as I can assure you that you'll take one

bite and fall in love. Tender, juicy and delicious, if you’re in the mood for a sweet meat, the burnt ends are for you. Dubbed ‘BBQ candy’ by the pitmasters themselves, nothing beats this meat in terms of sweet, tangy flavor! The burnt ends sandwich is something my wife has to get at least once a month and this is someone who eats obsessively healthy on a daily basis.

Saving one of the best for last, the St. Louis Ribs are fall off the bone fantastic! These St.Louis (meaty) style ribs are mouth watering with any of all three of their sauces - sweet, spicy and mustard-based. But if you're like I am, I don't use sauce on these smokey ribs, the flavor alone is spot on and the dry rub that they are cooked/smoked with is all they need, in my opinion.

Holy Hog offers a fabulous selection of seasonal menus - the holiday version is set to release right around the time you’re reading this article.

Cigar City Brewpub – Food, Fun & Beer ! By Matthew Selby By now, I’m sure you've had a chance to enjoy Cigar City BrewPub. Opening its doors in April 2013, Cigar City Brewpub was created with the simple goal of giving Tampa great food to go with great beer. The menu is a little Cuban, a little southern, a little Italian and all Tampa. It’s a hip, welcoming and casual environment to enjoy a good time with friends and family. Since our last article about CCBP, some changes have happened and they’re for the better. Changes in the kitchen have resulted in a more consistent quality and better value from the dishes. “We are still sourcing as much produce, beef and seafood as we can locally, and continue to offer only the highest quality hormone-free and grass fed meats, as well as fresh calamari from Rhode Island and shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico,” says General Manager Russell Simons. Recently revising the Brunch menu to offer a wider variety of choices for guests, Chef Gerry serves up a variety of delicious new options, as well as some classic dishes like the

This brunch is epic! The chef and brewer work hand in hand to help combine their talents for each guest’s benefit. Gerry says, “We even use beer brewed here in some of the sauces and dishes on the menu. The signature salad dressing

uses a farmhouse saison beer from the brewery called Guava Grove, and the pancakes from brunch use a little of the Cacique porter. A must try is the flowerless Hunahpu cake with Maduro brown ale and chilies.” Walking into Cigar City Brewpub, you can’t help but notice the in-

novative décor, almost all of which has been “up-cycled” from their brewery. From their fixtures made from brewery barrels, to the beer cans around the lights to their built in bar, which is also made out of cans, this eco-friendly Brewpub brings a little bit of the brewery to you; even the tables are up-cycled, made from re-used pallets and old brewery equipment. Getting past the décor, one can hardly miss the huge brewery canisters, which are not so conspicuously hidden in the corner of the bar area, where Head Brewer Matt Tucker brews up some amazing creations! Matt has recently won a Gold medal for the Cacique Porter brewed here in the U.S. Beer Open Championship 2015 and a Bronze medal for the Chocolate Stout named Popol Vuh in the same competition. In 2013, his Vienna Lager won the Gold Medal as Best of show in the Best Florida Beer Championship. Looking for a recommendation on food? As tough as it is to just choose one dish, the smoked swordfish tacos are still my favorite at Cigar City Brewpub, boasting an aromatic distinction of Smokey goodness. From

a good pairing with a fine brew you’re in luck! Cigar City has vegetarian options as well, such as their black bean cakes, served with fire roasted salsa verde and chipotle sour cream. Joe Redner (father of Cigar City’s founder) is a vegan and he is always happy when he eats here. CCBP prides itself on having enough veggies to be creative and accommodate vegetarians. Don’t forget, even if the menu doesn’t tell you which beer to pair with every item, your knowledgeable server will happily point you in the right direction! If you’re looking for a fun,

neighborhood atmosphere with great food options and a plethora of drinks to go along with it, look no further. Come on by and see what all the buzz is about! Cigar City Brewpub is located at 15491 North Dale Mabry Hwy. in Tampa. They are open Sunday – Thursday: 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday: 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.; Brunch: Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.; Bar is Open Late. I’m a fishing guide on the weekends and I’ve had my fair share of fish in my day so trust me when I say not only is this cooked to perfection, but it’s fresh off the boat as well!

Any burger on the menu is sure to impress, but I really enjoy their grass fed burger, which obviously features grass fed beef, as well as house-smoked bacon, sofrito, homemade pickles, sweet plantains topped off with an excellent aioli sauce and served on a brioche bun. Skin Trends Brings Hope and Healing to Skin Sufferers By Deborah Bostock-Kelley Little did Skin Trends cofounder Beatrice Botbol know that with a close of the interior design company she worked for in 2010 and a blessed and unexpected pregnancy, she would be changing the course of her future. “I had some time on my hands as no one was going to hire a pregnant interior designer,” said Beatrice. “I’d always suffered with my skin. I’d gone to doctors that I felt didn’t listen to me, used this cream, that cream, taken prescriptions, and nothing worked. So I decided this was the time for me to go learn on my own to figure out what was going on with my skin. I’ve always been the type of person who likes to help other people. ” Beatrice went to esthetics school during her pregnancy, finished after the birth of her daughter, and decided this was the path she wanted to take; but to open a brick and mortar spa location would be too risky during the still shaky economy. Instead, Beatrice and Skin Trends co-owner, husband Daniel, a skilled web developer, decided to see

28

OCTOBER 2015

what was missing in the aesthetics market online. “I looked at a lot of my competition and what I found is they basically wanted to sell you a cleanser at a discount. There was no direction as far as who that cleanser was meant for or answered what cleanser was best for antiaging or acne,” said Beatrice. “We really wanted to create a website that was focused on conditions and getting clients the right products. There’s also a huge part of the country that does not have access to estheticians or spas, so that’s why adding in the integration of being able to do client consultations was tremendous. We offer free consultations using Skype, and chat and telephone through the U.S. You call us and we’re here to help you.” Initially founded in 2013 as an online skincare retailer that provides online consultation services without cost, in the Summer of 2014 Skin Trends opened their spa and store located at 4019 W Waters Avenue. Beatrice said, “As estheticians we want to work with clients. We want to put people in the zen; to relax and to help them. We offer a facial spa and store to

balance, featuring a display of products accompanied by teal and silver décor. Because they aren’t limited to one specific brand and carry many preferred manufacturers on the website, the spa clients benefit from a variety of product choices. Beatrice said, “We offer a mixture of products from many different national lines; from our number one seller Image Skin Care, to Yonka Skincare, iS Clinical and Rhonda Allison, to a local smaller line like Vive, which is a local-based company out

of Lutz. Their products are featured around allium satiuum, the extract you get from garlic. That’s their focus and they’ve been great for treating severe dry skin conditions or psoriasis – those kind of issues.” Esthetician Alexis Springer said, “this is the best part about working at Skin Trends - the ability to have all the resources to find the right products for our clients.” The estheticians can easily customize a package specific to the spa clients’ needs and skin condition. Skin Trends’ three esthetics pro-

fessionals are trained to focus on each client’s needs and unique skin issues. They will specially cater each facial to your individual needs to ensure you get the very best results. Looking for the best waxing experience in Tampa Bay? Come see Marjorie, who uses a hard wax from Australia called Coconuts. “Without using strips like soft wax this product pulls the hair follicle directly out, preventing skin trauma,” said Marjorie, who has been a waxing pro for over a decade. “The gentle formulation provides a hydrating surface that is non-irritating even for the most sensitive skin.” For those wanting to turn back the hands of time in a flash check out Skin Trends’ ant-aging treatments. All of their treatments are designed to rejuvenate and firm the skin. Each focuses on specific targets for anti-aging and basically writes a goodbye letter to wrinkles. “One of my favorites is the Botinol Treatment from G.M Collin. This treatment uses a patented Matrixyl 3000 peptide that relaxes the facial contractions to promote a smoother appearance,” said Beatrice. Premature aging, dark spots, dry

and oily skin, acne and sensitive skin are several of the concerns that Beatrice has encountered in both men and women visiting the Skin Trends spa. Though most may think of spa services as a woman-only domain, Beatrice said she has several male clients and they are very loyal. Beatrice explained that oftentimes what the client thinks is acne, is actually what the esthetician discovers to be a skin sensitivity; the esthetician can then work together with the client using specialized products to heal the skin externally and internally. Beatrice said, “We provide lasting results. We have a great team. This, combined with our free online consultation services, sets us apart from our competition.” Skin Trends’ spa and store is located at 4019 W Waters Avenue in Tampa. Spa hours are Monday through Friday – 9am – 6pm and by appointment on Saturday. For more information or to schedule a service please call (813) 280-1141. In October Skintrends features an hour long back facial and 30minute facial filled with the scents of the season for only $60.
