The Dentofacial & Cosmetic Surgery Institute Makes Patients Want to Smile Again! Marcy Sanford Dr. Hashemian of the Dentofacial & Cosmetic Surgery Institute has been helping patients for more than 15 years. Michael M. Hashemian, DMD, MD, FAAOMS, FACOMS is an accomplished oral and maxillofacial surgeon who has had continuously successful practices in Lecanto and Spring Hill, and almost a year ago, he opened the Dentofacial & Cosmetic Surgery Institute office in Land O’ Lakes at 2651 Narnia Way. Dr. Hashemian performs a variety of procedures for oral surgeries, cosmetic facial surgeries and dental implants. “We opened our Institute in Land O’ Lakes because we had many people from this area coming to our other offices and we wanted to make it more convenient for them,” says Dr. Hashemian. “At the Dentofacial and Cosmetic Surgery Institute, we focus on a broad scope of oral and facial concerns and perform reconstructive and cosmetic surgeries for the mouth, teeth and face. We have many dentists

6

and doctors in this area who refer their patients to us and we want to make it easy for them to get the quality care they deserve.” Kimberly L. says, “My grandmother received amazing service at the Dentofacial and Cosmetic Surgery Institute. She went there for treatment and Dr. Hashemian was so kind to her. The staff was very helpful. I would recommend any friends or family to Dr. Hashemian.” Expert Care for All Your Oral Surgery Concerns Any time you have to get a surgery, it can make you nervous. On top of that, many people have anxiety about having dental work performed. But Dr. Hashemian and his caring staff will put you at ease by providing a conscious sedation during your procedure. “Most of our patients ask us when we are going to start their procedure, and that is when the procedure is completely done and they have no memory of it at all,” Dr. Hashemian adds.

For Ad Info Call (813) 928-6124 • www.NNLFlorida.com

Dr. Hashemian is a dual degree Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and that means he is a physician as well as a dentist, with a broad understanding of all different aspects of medicine, dentistry and surgery. Dr. Hashemian’s intense training has allowed him to help the patients with even the most difficult cases in his field. “We see many patients who have been referred from one provider to the next with no resolution in sight,” says Dr. Hashemian. “We can help even the most challenging cases with dental implants. There are many reasons why someone might need dental implants. Sometimes if you’ve been wearing dentures for many years, your jaw bone has melted away and the denture can hurt your jaw when it moves around and you need implants to stabilize you dentures. When your teeth are missing or dentures are uncomfortable or painful, it doesn’t just affect the way you look, it makes it difficult to eat and to talk. Many people find they become depressed. It can really affect your life and confidence. We

OCTOBER 2015

Dr. Michael Hashemian have people who come in here before treatment and they are very down because no one has been able to help them yet. But after one treatment, we see them leave our office smiling and with more confidence.” Patient K.K. shares, “I am very happy that I had my dental work done at the Dentofacial and Cosmetic Surgery Institute. Everyone was so very pleasant, nice, and treated me as an individual; not like a number or an aggravation. My experience was awesome. I

Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

did not expect to be treated with the kindness I was treated with. From the front desk to the assistants in the back, it was nice to be recognized as a person. Many other offices could learn from their example.” Dr. Hashemian says that thanks to advances in dental implant technology, some patients can get fully functioning teeth or dental implants in one single procedure that lasts not much longer than an hour. Additionally there is less swelling and bruising with the procedure, and he says that many patients resume their normal activities the next day. Take Care of Wisdom Teeth Early Another surgery that Dr. Hashemian says is needed by a large segment of the population is wisdom teeth removal. “The average mouth is made to hold only 28 teeth. It can be painful when 32 teeth try to fit in a mouth that holds only 28 teeth. These four other teeth are your third molars, also known as ‘wisdom teeth’.” Dr. Hashemian recommends early removal of wisdom teeth, preferably before they fully grow in. This helps to avoid future problems and can decrease the surgical risk involved with the procedure.

Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

When wisdom teeth align properly and gum tissue is healthy, they do not have to be removed. Unfortunately, this does not generally happen. Wisdom teeth may grow in sideways, partially emerge from the gum, and even remain trapped beneath the gum and bone. Impacted teeth can cause many problems. When they are partially erupted, the opening around the teeth allows bacteria to grow and will eventually cause an infection, resulting in swelling, stiffness, pain, and illness. The erupting wisdom teeth may move other teeth and disrupt their natural alignment. The most serious problem occurs when tumors or cysts form around the impacted wisdom teeth, resulting in the destruction of the jawbone and healthy teeth. Removal of the offending impacted teeth usually resolves these problems.

“With our cosmetic surgery, we see our patients regain their self-assurance and begin to love life again.” Dr. Hashemian uses photographs and computer imaging to help guide you before your surgery or procedure. If you have concerns about your lips, cheeks, chin, eyes, or any area of your face, Dr. Hashemian wants to help you love your face again. The Dentofacial and Cosmetic Surgery Institute also offers Botox and other fillers, laser resurfacing, chemical peels, and skin rejuvenation to minimize lines, age spots, and other signs of damage to

your face. If you are uncomfortable with the way you look or are experiencing pain and discomfort from dental issues, don’t let another day be wasted feeling depressed or stressed, call the Dentofacial and Cosmetic Surgery Institute today to see how they can help you. The Dentofacial & Cosmetic Surgery Institute is located at 2651 Narnia Way in Land O’ Lakes. For more information or to make an appointment, visit www.dentofacialinstitute.com or call 813-922-1818.

Gentle Care for Cosmetic Concerns Dr. Hashemian is an expert cosmetic surgeon. If you need reconstructive or cosmetic surgery due to aging, trauma, injury or cancer, Dr. Hashemian’s gentle touch will help you look like your-younger-self again. “We love helping our patients regain their confidence,” says Dr. Hashemian.

CARES Elfers Center Offers Delicious Dining, Activities, Travel, Bingo, Exercise, Art and Much More for Active Seniors! By Kim Thomas If you are a senior or have a senior-aged family member living in the Northern Pinellas or West Pasco areas, then you should definitely visit the CARES Elfers Center, located at 4136 Barker Drive in New Port Richey. The old Elfers Schoolhouse built in 1914 was completely renovated to house the CARES Elfers Center, and it is absolutely gorgeous with most of the original hardwood floors and original architecture still in place. On the day I visited, the Elfers CARES Center was a beehive of activity! The beautifully decorated Avery Branch Library at CARES is a satellite branch of the New Port Richey Library and is filled with great choices and comfortable furnishings for quiet days, but on the day I stopped by, it was transformed into a crafting class, where colorful fall wreaths were being created. In one quiet office, a volunteer was working one-on-one with a lady to hone her computer skills. Upstairs in what served as the original

school’s auditorium, there was an art class going on, where each person was working at their own level in making a lovely painting. The upstairs is lovely, with lofty ceilings and a preserved history; it is perfect for parties and dancing! It is available for rent and there have been weddings, graduation parties and celebrations of all sorts at the CARES Elfers Center. On a daily basis, the space is used for classes, such as the painting class, and the many exercise classes such as Silver Sneakers, tai chi, yoga and more. Seniors can find endless things to do year-round at the CARES Elfers Center. The calendar is packed with activities from Bingo, to crafting and art classes, karaoke, Tai Chi, quilting, and there is even a Travel Club. I took a look at some of the fun trips planned for November and was amazed at how affordable CARES is able to make these trips – and they are going to some great places! Some of the upcoming trips include the Hardrock Casino, a St. John’s River Cruise, Tampa Bay Bucs games, The Barn at

Lake Alfred, trips to concerts, festivals, and even a Thanksgiving Buffet on the Princess Yacht leaving from Tampa’s Channelside. CARES provides transportation in a beautiful new van that was bought with the help from generous donors. CARES Elfers Center Director Glenna Hileman says, “This is a fun place! I’ve been an entrepreneur my

whole business life but nothing has been quite like this. I feel like everything that I’ve done has prepared me for my work here. Our mission at CARES is to have the ability to encourage and assist seniors to age in place and have quality of life. The people who come here for enrichment leave a ‘footprint’ here and it is just so positive!”

The volunteers at CARES are remarkable in their dedication to the program and to keeping the building in pristine condition. As Glenna said, “The machine that keeps this place going is our volunteers!” In fact, she said that after last year’s hours were added up, some had volunteered more than 1,000 hours! All you have to do is stop by the Center and you’ll soon see that this is a place that has become a 2nd home to its volunteers and to the many who come to use the Center. There is a happy, uplifting energy at the CARES Elfers Center and if you have the time to volunteer, this is an excellent place to start! Chef Ginny Seidle joined the

staff of CARES and prepares delicious and very healthy meals at the CARES Café, which are offered at a cost that is less than the cheapest fast food. Not only that, but the bright, open Café is perfect for visiting with friends. “We have gone from feeding about 10 people at lunch to about 50,” says Glenna. “And we don’t do fast food, we do good food! I am very particular about the nutritional value because for a number of our seniors, this is their main meal. Ginny and I do the shopping ourselves at Gordon Food Service. We have fresh soup every day and only use the freshest, healthiest ingredients.” Every month at CARES ends

with a special celebratory meal. At the end of August, it was an end-of-summer picnic with everyone’s favorite summertime picnic dishes. Holiday dinners are always special too, and it means so much to many seniors to be able to enjoy companionship along with their Thanksgiving Dinner! Save the Dates and Help CARES! CARES relies on donations and fundraisers to keep these wonderful enrichment programs going. The CARES Annual Benefit presented by the Musunuru Family on November 22, 2015 at Spartan Manor in New Port Richey. The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails at the cash

Sponsorship packages are available from $500 to $15,000. Individual tickets are available for $75. The ELFers Merry Marketplace will be held at the CARES Elfers Center on Saturday, November 14th from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and on Sunday, November 15th from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. The Merry Marketplace Vendor Village will feature arts and crafts and Santa’s Sweet Shop will have delicious baked goods and edible gifts for purchase. There will be Reindeer Raffles and Jingle Bell Jam holiday entertainment on both days and the Café will be open! “Sejpal Law Firm” Continued from page 1 out of future disputes related to that agreement, however, there’s no guarantee that you won’t find yourself in a contract dispute, but a document that is properly drafted will certainly help deflect many different types of lawsuits” says Kunal. Client and owner of a Tampa area Pinch A Penny pool supply store, Kiran Patel, says, “I have known Kunal for a very long time. He is an excellent attorney. If we ever have an emergency, I can call him and he will take care of it immediately. He is very honest, reliable, and detail oriented. He always meets our deadlines, which is very important when you are running a business.” Real Estate Law: In addition to Business & Corporate Law, Sejpal Law Firm also helps many property owners with legal issues. “Sejpal Law Firm can handle all matters related to buying or selling real estate for both business owners and individuals,” says Attorney Sejpal. “At Sejpal Law Firm we also have an in-house Title Division, Tampa Bay Title Company, that han-

dles real estate closings, escrow and title insurance needs for residential and commercial property owners throughout Tampa Bay and the State of Florida. Unlike most other title companies in Florida, our day-to-day operations are supervised and managed by an attorney which is a benefit to our clients because if any legal issues arise, we can handle them. Most other title companies in Florida are managed and operated by non-attorneys and have zero attorney supervision or management.” Clients like Jill Bosack, owner of the Dance and Gymnastics Academy in Land O’ Lakes, appreciate Kunal Sejpal’s dedication to his clients, “Kunal has been my attorney for five years. He has helped me with employee agreements and guided us through a major expansion. He was able to help us with all of our real estate issues. As a business owner it is comforting to know you have someone like Kunal that you can count on. He is always on time, very professional and responsible. He has been a big help to the Dance and Gymnastics Academy.” In addition to helping you navigate the legal issues involved when

buying or selling property, Sejpal Law Firm can help you with commercial or residential leases. “We represent both residential and commercial landlords to help them with leases and tenant issues,” says Kunal. “We are also here for our clients if they need dispute resolution.” Additionally, Sejpal Law Firm can help you if you find yourself unable to afford your home or property. “We have helped people who can no longer afford their homes with defending foreclosure lawsuits and negotiating short sales with lenders,” says Kunal. With the right legal guidance, a foreclosure or short sale can be handled more quickly and can be easier on you and your finances. “My clients know they can call me for any issue that comes up,” says Kunal. “Sejpal Law Firm has helped clients in matters of construction litigation when contractors have not completed the work they promised they would do. We work for the property owner to make sure that the

finished result is the one that was promised.” Family Law & Estate Planning: As Kunal’s list of clients has grown, so too have their needs. In addition to real estate and business law, he also provides legal services in the areas of family law and estate planning. Kunal will discuss all your options with you and help you make a decision that will protect you, your family, and your assets. Litigating family law cases can be laden with emotion and uncertainty. Kunal understands that this can be

one of the most difficult times of your life. “Any aspect of a family law case can result in anxiety over subjects such as where your children will live, how you will get by financially, and whether you will be able to continue living in the manner to which you are accustomed are all valid, and common, concerns” says Kunal. Because this area of law is so delicate, Kunal believes that you deserve the utmost care and service from your attorney and that it is important to be cooperative when working with the other side. “Sejpal Law Firm will always strive to create an environment of collaboration and cooperation.” However, if working together becomes unrealistic, Kunal is fully prepared to handle your case in court. Kunal makes it known that an estate plan is about more than planning for death. It is about planning for whatever comes your way during your lifetime. A sound estate plan adds up to a lot of peace of mind for you and your family. “Unfortunately, most people tend to procrastinate when it comes to estate planning. Let’s face it, deciding who gets your assets when you are gone, and who will manage your assets if you become disabled, are

tasks most people would rather ignore” says Kunal. “Sejpal Law Firm can help eliminate worries that your assets might end up in the wrong hands, rather than with your heirs and other beneficiaries you choose, as well as helping ensure that someone you know and trust can handle your affairs if you become disabled.” Kunal Sejpal is a resident of Land O’ Lakes. He graduated from the University of South Florida and the Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University. Sejpal Law Firm represents clients locally, statewide, and internationally. The Firm has many clients who have been with them since Sejpal Law Firm first opened. “Landon” Continued from page 1 I can tell you, from my own personal experience, that Dr. Landon and his staff truly are amazing. From day one, his staff went above and beyond to provide me with a personalized experience and did a great job of making me feel comfortable and relaxed. From my first consultation, where the

Dr. Bruce and Cheryl Landon

staff was very thorough and actually listened to what I had to say, to the night of the operation where Dr. Landon called me at home to see how I was doing, to the months following the operation, where Dr. Landon and his staff did an excellent job making sure everything progressed and healed right, Landon Plastic Surgery really has set the bar with how patients should be treated. “We do take care of our patients and I do think we offer that extra level of service,” says Cheryl. “I almost think we nurture patients. We have an amazing, amazing staff. They are all truly wonderful. We really care about our patients and our patients know that. They almost feel part a part of the family.” World-Class Technology Using the newest, most innovative technology, Dr. Landon’s 3D breast imaging machine allows patients to see exactly what their implants are going to look like before the surgery, and gives them the opportunity to “try out” different sizes to see what will look best on their body and what size will give them the desired outcome that they hope to achieve. Dr. Landon says, “We offer patients the ability to take a virtual road

trip with different size implants to see how the implants are going to look on their body. This has really done a great job of alleviating the anxiety.” The newest in patient-centered advancements, Landon Plastic Surgery has recently introduced Touch MD to their practice. Interactive software for patient education, Touch MD, as like the 3D breast-imaging machine, gives patients the opportunity to experience the closest thing they can to having surgery, before the actual surgery. By uploading a picture of the patient’s target area to the software, Dr. Landon is able to show his patients where the incisions are going to be made, as well as the projected outcome as to what that area will look like post-surgery. “This gives patients a sense of familiarity, making them feel comfortable about their decision,” says Dr. Landon. “It is a great teaching tool, and my patients end up leaving with a solid education of what we hope to accomplish surgically, as well as an enhanced piece of mind in knowing they know what to expect before, during and after the surgery; helping their decision to choose our office an easy one.” When asked his favorite part about what he does, Dr. Landon

Relax in comfort knowing you are in good hands at Landon Plastic Surgery replied, “Being able to take body images that people find distasteful or aging and give them a positive body image change. People have a wide range of expectations and if you are really going to be successful you have to listen to your patients and deliver what they want. I think that is what really sets us apart. Kim says, “All of four facials are customized to the clients. Because of this, we have several different skin care lines – we offer everything from physician-grade skin care products to an organic line – which we use based upon the individual needs of the client.” All of their full (60-minute) services include a complimentary snack tray consisting of gelato, cheese and crackers and a homemade truffle (handmade by Cheryl herself), a beverage, and time in the Serenity Room – a relaxing room, where guests can kick back and unwind before their appointment. The Spa Boutique also has a retail boutique, which carries a variety of jewelry, glasses, dresses, purses, bath sponges, robes and more.

In much need of some pampering myself, after talking to Kim, I decided to set up an appointment to get a facial. Sonia was my aesthetician and, wow, the facial was wonderful! After an hour of pampering – which included a much-needed shoulder and hand massage – I slowly awakened from my relaxing trance and left The Spa Boutique with beautifully glowing skin!
