Sometimes embarrassing to talk about, urology concerns can be serious and should never be ignored just because it is an uncomfortable subject. As with any other health issue that requires a specialist, when looking for an urologist or urogynecologist, it is important to find a doctor who is credentialed, experienced, and skilled in their field, and when the problem is as personal as urological dysfunction, you also need a doctor you can talk to. Patients love that about Dr. DiPiazza – he makes them feel okay and safe with his humor and down-to-earth manner. “I am so thankful that I found Dr. DiPiazza,” states a patient. “I had consultations with three other doctors
before making a decision. I was so impressed that he treated me as if he had known me for years. I felt so comfortable with him. I knew before the appointment was over that he would be the doctor I would allow to do my surgery. He is very thoughtful, caring, very educated, and takes time with you and explains all the procedures involved. He is, without a doubt, the best doctor I have ever met.” A skilled surgeon, David DiPiazza, MD of Urology Specialists of West Florida sees a lot of patients with embarrassing urological issues, ranging from pelvic prolapse in women and prostate issues in men, to incontinence and complications caused by cancer in both women and men. Keeping Legacies Alive at the Hearts for Hospice 5K Ethel’s passion, energy and love for her family and friends can be felt in the air at the annual Hearts for Hospice 5K. For Ethel’s Energizers, the annual fundraiser is a way to keep alive the memory of their mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt and friend. “We named our team Ethel’s Energizers for our Mom and her endless energy,” said Cindy Walker, one of Ethel’s daughters and Co-Team Captain of the Ethel’s Energizers along with her sister, Co-Team Captain Barbara Russell. “When she was passionate about something, nothing could stop her.” Ethel’s family was first introduced to Gulfside Hospice in 2014 when matriarch Ethel Dunk’s illness became too much for even the family’s health care professionals to care for. They turned to Gulfside for much needed support and care. That’s when a new family stepped in to care for Ethel – the Gulfside Hospice family. “We have developed a bond with our Gulfside Hospice family. We may have lost our Mom, but we gained friendships and support,” said Barbara Russell. “Without the help of aides, nurses, social workers and clergy, we

could not have kept her comfortable and happy in her own home. Having this support freed us up to spend quality time with her.” After Ethel passed away peacefully in 2014, the family decided to join the Gulfside Hospice fundraising community in her honor. They signed up for the Hike for Hospice, now known as the Hearts for Hospice 5K, and started the Ethel’s Energizers team. Each year since, the team has continued to grow and raise more than $3,600 for Gulfside Hospice. This year, 25 people will walk as part of the team in honor of Ethel, ranging from 1 year old to 85 years old, from “great-grandsons to beloved husband,” said Walker. “Participating in the Hearts for Hospice 5K is a way to keep our mom’s legacy alive while helping others care for their loved ones,” said Russell. “Hospice is not about giving up; it’s about celebrating the end of life.” This year’s 10th annual Hearts for Hospice 5K, presented by Bouchard Insurance, will take place on Sunday, Nov. 6 at Rasmussen College, location at 18600 Fernview St. in Land O’ Lakes. Registration and check-in begin at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K walk, run and

Families Choose Bishop Larkin Catholic School for Academic Excellence By Julie Kanehl We are at an interesting time right now when it comes to academics and the choices that are available for our children. It used to be that the options were rather simple; there were private schools and public schools. Today, there are public schools, charter schools, magnet programs, academies, virtual schools and home schooling options. With all the options out there, there’s one school in our area that has been consistently producing high achieving and some of the most well rounded students in our county, year after year, for more than 25 years, and that’s Bishop Larkin Catholic School in Port Richey. In fact, the students who graduate from their pre-K to 8th grade program are academically advanced when compared to other students, giving them an edge in high school, college and life. Located at
8408 Monarch Drive in Port Richey, Bishop Larkin Catholic School is convenient to Trinity, East Lake, New Port Richey, Port Richey and more. One parent said, “There is no place better than Bishop Larkin Catholic School. My children spend the day in a caring environment conducive to learning. The professionalism of every staff member and the level of instruction are second to none. We are blessed to have found Bishop Larkin and are thrilled to be able to have our children attend through 8th grade.” Bishop Larkin Catholic School Provides a Dedicated Staff and an Outstanding Learning Environment How do they do it? Since 1989, Bishop Larkin Catholic School has been providing education the good old-fashioned way–– plenty of personal attention, parent involvement,
numerous resources, safe and supportive environment and a one hundred percent commitment to academic excellence. The entire school has less than 300 students. This provides students the opportunity to have more one-on-one time with the teachers and a closer relationship with their friends. Bishop Larkin Catholic School (BLCS) creates a warm and welcoming school environment, a deeper level
of understanding and consequently, higher scores. Principal Sr. Regina Ozuzu, H.H.C.J., or “Sister Regina” as she’s lovingly called, has been the school’s principal for 16 years, and is an incredible model of an educator with a loving spirit. Her love and passion for this school is obvious the moment you meet her, and most evident when the children greet her. Regardless of their
Sister Regina and some of the Middle School students on the first day of school this year, just after saying the morning prayer. age, they greet her warmly–often with hugs! Actually, the little ones prefer to sit in her lap! Sister Regina says, “We don’t let our students fall behind here. We are about empowering children to learn! We focus on why we are learning things, all the while thinking about what we will do with it and how the information will be useful in our lives!” Bishop Larkin Catholic School is accredited by The Florida Catholic Conference (FCC), whose accrediting practices are approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The school is also a member of the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA), and is part of the Diocese of St. Petersburg. Their mission statement says, “Bishop Larkin Catholic School honors our past, embraces our present, and envisions the future in a Christcentered learning environment that fosters spiritual and academic growth. We work in partnership with our parents and parish communities to inspire students to flourish in the Catholic
Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles
traditions of compassion, service, and leadership.” While you don’t need to be Catholic or even Christian to attend BLCS because it is open to all faiths, many parents are grateful to give their children the opportunity to go to school in a place that offers a Catholic education. To know that your children are attending school in a place that encourages morals, values and the teachings of Christ is a true gift, and sadly, a rare one. One parent said, “The academic environment at BLCS speaks for itself in the curriculum and past graduates.” Adding, “I feel it is knowing that our children are in such a wonderful environment daily for 7 hours, while away from home that made me realize all the other advantages of BLCS. In today’s times it is hard to find a great school that truly feels like an extended large family and everyone is cared for and trusted in that manner every day of the school year. It is well worth the sacrifices we make to allow our children to attend BLCS.” Many people make the assump-
Principal Sister Regina Ozuzu and Vice Principal Mrs. Sylvia Peters tion that they can’t afford to attend Bishop Larkin Catholic School, but there are many options! There are scholarship opportunities and financial aid options available, and the price of a solid education, guided by loving hands is truly priceless, isn’t it? At the end of the day, a Catholic School education is an investment that brings a lifetime of returns. One recent graduate said, “They gave me a great foundation, not only in my Catholic Faith but in my academic future. They gave me a great sense of determination, kindness, and perseverance that can help me in the future.” Join the Bishop Larkin Family Attending Bishop Larkin Catholic School has become a tradition for many families in our area. In fact, over the years many students who graduated in the early years of BLCS brought their own children to BLCS to attend school. Jennifer Bright, of Business Development and Marketing says, “There’s a legacy here that is being
handed down, and students who attend Bishop Larkin become successful and valuable members of our society.” She adds, “Mrs. Peters is the Vice Principal. She also has been a teacher (2nd, 4th Grade and Religion). Her son Dr. Christopher Peters graduated in 1999. Another teacher here, Cassie Bastien, also from the BLCS class of 1999, has been teaching VPK at BLCS since 2011. It is gratifying to see many alumni bringing their children to Bishop Larkin so they have the same valuable experience. Those are just a few examples of the many families who have trusted Bishop Larkin Catholic School with their children’s education. One of the things that parents love about BLCS is the family involvement. This year, the school is hosting family events on the last Friday of every month, giving parents and grandparents of three- and four-year-old children the opportunity to come, read together, and learn about what Bishop Larkin Catholic School has to offer. Of course, there are opportunities for families to be involved at BLCS throughout the school year for all grade levels. If you’re looking for a school where your children will flourish academically, spiritually and morally, contact Bishop Larkin Catholic School today. Parents and their students who are interested in learning more are welcome to make an appointment to tour the school and visit during an Open House. Bishop Larkin Catholic School is located at 8408 Monarch Drive in Port Richey, Florida. To schedule a tour or for more information, call 727-862-6981 or visit their website at www.BishopLarkin.org. We saved so much money by having the grout in our shower resurfaced and the tile cleaned and it looks brand new,” John shares. She stresses, “It is important for me to be respectful of our customers’ time so I will always arrive at the time we set.” In addition to always arriving in a timely manner, BJ says that they can keep their prices low because they are a family owned business and not a franchise. She explains, “What many people don’t understand is that franchises are often forced to charge more for their serv-

ices because they have to maintain their franchise fees, but not with Grout Tech.” Not only does Grout Tech keep its rates competitive, but the company will also honor any other quote as long as it is in writing. Because grout is a porous material, trying to remove stains is seemingly impossible. BJ explains, “Color sealing grout lines is one of the many services we offer and it is definitely the most effective way to create a perfect, new look.” Using a step-by-step process, Grout Tech begins by using a cleansing product to remove all bacteria and surface dirt with special machinery. They will then apply a color seal (of your choice).

Once the sealer is applied the grout lines will be permanently protected from any stains. The color seal also guarantees against cracking, chipping and peeling. Additionally, they will also cosmetically fix or replace chipped or cracked tiles, making your bathroom or kitchen tile like new again. Carla Bartow, a satisfied customer, shares her experience, “When BJ came out to give us a quote, she looked at the job and I could tell immediately that she knew what she was talking about. We had our family room, kitchen and dining room regrouted. They also re-grouted the tub, shower and base of our toilet in

our bathroom. They were fantastic! Not only were they professional and reliable but they also completed the job much faster than we had anticipated.”
Excellent Service Leads to Referrals Throughout the years, Grout Tech has grown through its many referrals from happy customers. People really appreciate that Grout Tech saves them time and money, but it is the excellent service provided that has really helped this business grow. Doris Strathearn, another Grout Tech success story, said that before calling Grout Tech her bathroom and guest bathroom shower and floor grout had deteriorated over time and the tiles were dull and stained. “The tile was in good condition but it was stained so we had Grout Tech come out and clean them and they turned out very well.” They were so pleased that they have already referred Grout Tech to neighbors in their community. Wollinka, Wollinka & Doddridge, Protecting the Interests of Clients in Pasco for 45 Years By Kim Thomas Wollinka, Wollinka & Doddridge P.L. (WW&D), is in its 45th year as a law firm in Pasco County and has been a valuable resource for many individuals and families in the area by providing exceptional legal counsel regarding estate planning, elder law and real estate law, as well as legal services that benefit businesses such as corporate matters, asset protection, and tax reduction strategies. As our area continues to develop, it is good to know that the law firm that was one of the very first in the New Port Richey/Trinity Area is still standing strong and protecting the interests of an even broader scope of clients throughout Pasco, Northern Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties. Wollinka, Wollinka & Doddridge has fully staffed offices in Trinity and Palm Harbor and satellite offices in Carrollwood and Clearwater, making it very

convenient for clients. There comes a time when everyone needs a lawyer to help protect them – whether it is for business and real estate matters, or personal matters such as wills and trusts, or most important, making sure wishes are known and followed as far as the care and guardianship of children in the event of the death of both parents. Not easy to think about, but it is irresponsible not to think of these things. “I have worked with three generations of some families,” says Attorney David Wollinka, who joined his father’s law firm in 1987, after earning his Juris Doctorate degree in 1986 from University of Florida’s Levin College of Law. David’s father, Attorney Jerome Wollinka, started the law firm in a rented building in 1971 in New Port Richey, when the area now known as Trinity was farmland and pastures. David chuckles remembering his first Christmas home from college

new building in February 2015. Wollinka, Wollinka & Doddridge continues to put their clients’ interests first, and is currently installing upgraded technology that better allows them to fully integrate the multiple offices, and the cutting edge technology makes their clients information more secure than ever. Like David, a Florida native who graduated high school in Tarpon Springs, Ryan grew up with sand in his shoes from beautiful St. Petersburg. He’s also a Gator, having attended The University of Florida as well as Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law. An asset to the firm and an asset to the community, Attorney Ryan Doddridge is proud to serve the community just as Jerome Wollinka did, as president of the West Pasco Bar Association, which is in its 50th year! Ryan also is a member of the Trinity Rotary Club, the Clearwater Bar Association, West Pasco Estate Planning Attorneys Association, West Pasco Real Estate Council, and the Suncoast Guardian Association. He also recently served on the Board of the North Suncoast Estate Planning Council. Family is important to both of

these attorneys, who have families of their own, and they truly understand what is at stake when helping families to protect their assets. Having worked with so many different clients throughout the years, they have seen what can happen when circumstances change and legal documents aren’t modified quickly. Family dynamics change, and the decisions that were originally made may need to be changed as well and it’s important to notify your attorney. “Every five years, we offer free reviews to our clients where we discuss any change of circumstance and if there needs to be any changes in who you’ve designated as your fiduciaries. They also provide services with regard to Medicaid, incapacity planning, and special needs trusts, and much more. Whether you’d like to make a simple will for your family, create a trust for your children, or divide a complicated estate, Wollinka, Wollinka & Doddridge can help you protect your wishes, your dignity, your legacy, and even minimize stress for your loved ones. Another area of interest that Wollinka, Wollinka & Doddridge are keeping a close eye on for clients are
the inevitable changes in tax laws that will happen regardless of who wins the Presidency. “We anticipate substantial changes to estate planning due to expected changes in the tax laws after the election,” says Attorney David Wollinka. “We have a list of clients that we are now identifying that may need an update to their documents.” Wollinka, Wollinka & Doddridge, Your Ally in Real Estate, Corporate Matters & Asset Protection With the growth in our area, there are many Real Estate transactions taking place and if you are considering buying, selling or leasing residential or business property, Wollinka, Wollinka & Doddridge should be on your radar. “Oftentimes, if people would just reach out to us before signing documents, it could have saved them thousands of dollars,” says Attorney Doddridge. “With both buyers and sellers, one of the things we find is that people will avoid seeing an attorney even for basic information and it ends up costing thousands more because now they are in litigation rather than negotiation.” Entrepreneurs work hard to build up their businesses, so it is imperative that those businesses are protected – that means separating your personal finances from your business finances, so that something that happens personally or at home doesn’t affect the business and vice versa. Many good people have lost more than their business from a lawsuit stemming from some-
thing that happened at their company. It’s best to be prepared, and to have attorneys like Wollinka, Wollinka & Doddridge at your side. While there’s no way to predict the future, they can help you protect your assets. In addition to the attorneys at Wollinka, Wollinka & Doddridge, the staff is also knowledgeable and dedicated to clients. Whether you’re looking towards the future, protecting what you have, or building a business, it’s important to have a reputable law firm by your side to represent you, protect your assets, and guide you through the complicated and changing laws. Go with the law firm that has built its reputation by providing legal counsel backed by experience, integrity and dedication for 45 years – make an appointment with the attorneys at Wollinka, Wollinka & Doddridge. Wollinka, Wollinka & Doddridge has multiple locations for your convenience. The main office is located at 10015 Trinity Blvd, Suite 101 in Trinity (phone: 727937-4177). The fully staffed Palm Harbor office is located at 3204 Alternate 19 North (phone: 727-7815444). The Carrollwood Satellite Office in Tampa is at 13801 N. Dale Mabry Highway (phone: 727937-4177). Triton Insurance Group: More Options, More Savings By Julie Kanehl Triton Insurance Group is changing the way local residents look at insurance. Why? One of the reasons is that Triton Insurance Group has working relationships with more than 33 top insurance carriers in the state of Florida. (That’s almost all of them!) That means that their customers can shop all of those companies at once by working with the experienced and easy-going staff at Triton Insurance Group. With the ability to see what each insurance policy costs across the board, Triton makes it easy to choose the policy that best suits each customer’s needs, and save money at the same time. With Triton, customers get more options and more savings. Offering affordable rates on nearly every kind of insurance policy out there, Triton Insurance Group specializes in homeowner’s insurance, flood insurance, auto insurance, umbrella, personal and commercial insurance. Triton Insurance Group is committed to partnering with their

customers to find the best insurance policy for their individual needs. Mike Hills, Regional Vice President of Triton Insurance Group in Trinity, says, “Other companies can only offer you the best of their options. Their best may be the best from only one, two, maybe four or five companies. We compare 33 out of the 36 companies total in the entire state, giving our customers a wider range of choices.” In fact, it’s shocking to see how wide the price range is for similar policies across the board. Mike can quickly look up a home and demonstrate the scope in terms of pricing and coverage. For example, looking at a home that was built in 1968, down in St. Petersburg, the homeowner’s policies ranged from $900 to $5,000 a year. That’s a huge difference! Mike says, “We fit the best premiums, underwriting guidelines and needs of the customer together, and we find savings.” Local clients, like Kim Acheson, are really happy to have found Triton

Yes, that’s right, and he made it a success! It’s his down-earth approach that is so appreciated in the insurance business, as well as his dedication. Mike is a member of something called the East Lake C.E.R.T. Team (Community Emergency Response Team) in Palm Harbor. This amazing organization provides community training in medical & first aid, search and rescue procedures, and more, to help prepare individuals in emergencies and disasters. On top of that, Mike is a Resource Advisor for S.C.O.R.E. (Service Core of Retired Executives), which offers education and resources to entrepreneurs in our area. Mike attributes his success in business to the efforts of Buffalo SCORE in 1985, saying, “If it wasn’t for S.C.O.R.E., my first business would have been a failure.” Now he takes part of this organization and pays it forward! Triton Insurance Group Supports Our Community! Mike and his wife, Sandy founded a local non-profit organization called H.E.L.P. Now

Now Project donated a $10,000 check to the widow and family of fallen officer, Charles Kondek, who lost in life in the line of duty. Mike says, “The H.E.L.P. Now Project is the vehicle to allow businesses, organizations and individuals to take an active and participating role in giving back to their communities and HELP change people’s lives.” Recently promoted to Diamond Level by American Integrity Insurance, it’s the people they help every day that makes them feel most rewarded. BayCare Empowers Women to Take Control of Their Breast Health with In Our Hands Campaign While breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women, the five-year survival rate is 98 percent when it is detected early. In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, BayCare is encouraging women to take an active role in their breast cancer screening by reminding them their health is literally in their hands with the renewal of the In Our Hands campaign. Among those featured are a 25year-old woman, a fitness instructor/vegetarian, and a man, proving that breast cancer can happen to anyone. Whitney Payne was just 24 years old when she found a lump during a self-exam. She was determined to not let cancer slow her down, so she turned to the team at St. Joseph’s Hospital-North for her mastectomy. Sun City residents and breast cancer survivors Lucienne Stevenson and Andre Iacurci were both treated at St. Joseph’s Hospital-South. After beating
cancer in her left breast in 1993, Lucienne was diagnosed with cancer in her right breast after a routine mammogram last year. Andre is a rare case, as breast cancer is about 100 times less common among men than women. Largo resident Tanya Nelson thought she didn’t have time to get a mammogram, but just a year later she felt a lump that would be diagnosed as breast cancer. Bonnie Dhonau, who also resides in Largo, did schedule regular mammograms and it was during one of these visits that she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Sell’s Broadway Dance Company Students Reach for the Stars It’s no secret that Sell’s Broadway Dance Company (SBDC) has been encouraging kids of all ages to reach for the stars and to dream big for the last 16 years, since they opened their doors in the fall of 2000. This past summer more than 40 students – ranging in age from 6 to 19 and accompanied by former Broadway veterans Chris and Shanna Sell – took the trip of a lifetime to New York City, where they took in the sights of the city, saw Broadway shows, participated in master classes with numerous Broadway performers and topped the week off by dancing on Broadway on the stage of the New Amsterdam Theatre, home to Disney’s production of Aladdin! Prior to their debut on Broadway, the SBDC Performance Team danced down Main Street U.S.A at Disney’s Magic Kingdom, performed at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Busch Gardens’ Christmas Town, Universal Studios and were most recently invited to showcase their talents at the Gaylord Palms in Orlando as part of the ICE exhibit this winter, and are
currently in rehearsal to perform next aboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines in the Spring of 2017! Additionally, SBDC’s own, Ryan Sell, just recently returned from New York City, where he is in rehearsals for the new Broadway show, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He will star as “Charlie Bucket,” opposite two time Tony Award Winner Christian Borle, and will be making his Broadway debut at the young age of 11 in this highly anticipated musical, set to open in the Spring of 2017 on Broadway! Ryan could also be seen recently performing year-round at Busch Gardens as “Austin” in their award-winning production of Iceplorations, and is the voice of a recurring character “Marco Polo” in a new animated series titled The Polos. All of these opportunities have shown that SBDC is making dreams come true, one student at a time, and that it is the place where kids go to become pros! What sets Sell’s apart from other programs in the area is their extremely well-rounded performing arts program that includes dancing, singing
and acting, and which is led by an All-Star Faculty of professional dancers, all are Broadway veterans, and some are former Radio City Music Hall Rockettes. The resident ballet instructor at Sell’s is Adam Boreland, a company member and principal dancer from The Orlando Ballet. Mr. Boreland will be directCongratulations to SBDC’s Ryan Sell, who plays ing and choreographing “Charlie Bucket” in the new Broadway show, The Nutcracker this winCharlie and the Chocolate Factory, which is set to open ter, an annual holiday on Broadway in the Spring of 2017 tradition at Sell’s, and a lavish production, with artist. Students and their families participate in a monthly activity helping to feed the homeless, volunteer at local animal shelters, or other local charity organizations. Sell’s also offers a unique program for adaptive dancers and students with special needs. These dancers, all with various special needs, some wheelchair bound or visually impaired, come to the studio for weekly dance classes and are the heartbeat of the studio, bringing down the house each year when they steal the show dancing in the Sell’s annual spring recital. “Dr. DiPiazza” Continued from page 1 an expert in female prolapse urologic pelvic floor repair, prostate concerns, and general urology, treating urological dysfunction and disease specific to both women and men. Dr. DiPiazza is Board Certified in Urology and is the only Urologist in Pasco and Pinellas Counties who is Board Certified in Female Pelvic Medicine Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. DiPiazza completed his undergraduate training with honors at Cornell University, later completing his residency at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, and Princeton Medical Center. After six years of formal surgical training, Dr. DiPiazza began treating all aspects of urologic oncology, general urology, and the subspecialty of urogynecology. In 2010, Dr. DiPiazza was the Chief of Surgery at Community Hospital (now the Medical Center of Trinity West Pasco Campus), and he is well known and respected by his colleagues in the Tampa Bay Area. Dr. DiPiazza has been referred to as the “surgeon’s surgeon” and shares, “I get a lot of refer-

rals from gynecologists and oncologists in the area, and when local doctors need urology or pelvic surgery, they come to me.” His colleagues trust him with their patients, too. He adds, “When people need advanced cancer surgeries, or they have difficult patients, they send them to me.” Experienced in da Vinci Robot assisted surgeries, Dr. DiPiazza has years of experience in laparoscopically removing tumors in the prostate, the kidneys, and the bladder. In the instance of kidney cancer, Dr. DiPiazza makes every effort to remove the cancer and reconstruct the kidney, in order to save it. “I can do this in most cases,” he says. “Many surgeons would just do the easier surgery of removing the entire kidney.” Over the past ten years, Dr. DiPiazza has helped thousands of patients to get their lives back to normal using minimally invasive da Vinci Robot assisted surgery. Dr. DiPiazza uses Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery to Change Women’s Lives The minimally invasive da Vinci Robot is a great tool in the hands of a skilled surgeon, and has successfully

changed the way that pelvic prolapse surgeries are performed. About 200,000 women have prolapse surgery every year in the United States. Prolapse means that the pelvic floor muscles and ligaments have stretched and weakened, reducing the support for the uterus. Sometimes, the bladder also descends. When the uterus or the bladder descends into the vaginal canal, this can become both uncomfortable and embarrassing. Prolapse can cause women to have a feeling of heaviness or pulling in the pelvis, painful intercourse, difficulties with urination or with bowel movements and even protrusion of the organs from the vagina. Women needlessly

suffer from this when they don’t need to. There is nothing to be embarrassed about, as Dr. DiPiazza and his kind staff can help you understand. Dr. DiPiazza uses the da Vinci Robot to perform what is called a Robotic Sacrocolpopexy. Prior to technologically advanced robotic-assisted surgery, this procedure (sacrocolpopexy) used to result in a large scar and longer recovery time. Robotic Sacrocolpopexy is safer for patients because of reduced blood loss, fewer complications and a much shorter hospitalization and recovery time than traditional surgery. Dr. DiPiazza performs surgeries like this multiple times a week, which means he is both

types of procedures that help his patients enjoy a better quality of life, Dr. DiPiazza says, “Many treatments don’t need surgery and many surgeries don’t need a robot.” One very common problem for women of all ages is stress incontinence, but did you realize that Dr. DiPiazza corrects this annoying and embarrassing problem with a 15-minute procedure? One patient said, “I finally did it.
No more leaky faucet! Dr. DiPiazza is great. He made my overwhelming plumbing problems go away. I was a mess. I had stage 3 prolapsed bladder, severe urgency issues where I sometimes didn’t make it to the bathroom, and severe leakage. I was avoiding taking care of it because it’s embarrassing. I finally decided the issues couldn’t be avoided. Dr. DiPiazza is a doctor you can talk to about these embarrassing issues. He did the robotic surgery so the recovery was shorter.” Stating, “Go! Don’t wait another minute. Dr. DiPiazza is great!” Education and experience give him an impressive bio, but when patients meet Dr. DiPiazza in person, it is his passion for what he does that makes an impression. He takes the time to talk to patients about their concerns, and to show them what can be done, and how. He is part caregiver, part scientist, and all surgeon. He understands the way the body works, and has experience working around the organs in the pelvis and abdomen, which is no easy task. And, Dr. DiPiazza is easy to talk to so there is no reason to suffer from urological or urogynecological issues. Make an appointment today with Dr. DiPiazza.

Tarpon Springs High School Students Chosen to Perform in NYC in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Contributed by Libba Phillips Have you ever watched a performance of the highly acclaimed Cirque Du Soleil? It’s a colorful display of mesmerizing acrobatics, music, and dance that delights the senses with the synchronized movement of the performers that leaves you on the edge of your seat! “These kids could do that!” is what I’m thinking when I watch the incredibly talented Colorguard team of Tarpon Springs High School. Their performances are more like theatrical displays that dazzle crowds every weekend during high school football games, and at competitions throughout the state of Florida and around the country all year long. And only a hand selected few of those talented Tarpon Springs High School Colorguard students have been chosen from over 14,000 schools across the U.S., to be elite members of the 2016 MACY’S Great American
40
Marching Band in the 90th Annual New York City Thanksgiving Day Parade. What an incredible honor for these local students and community pride for Tarpon Springs and the state of Florida, with 25 students selected from Florida schools and 7 from Tarpon Springs High School! Ryan Tatum, the co-captain of the team, does extra homework for fun, and has plans to explore the medical field after high school, loves the thrill of performance and working towards a collaborative effort. Chelsea Earley, who took a leap of faith to change schools her senior year so she could have the opportunity to grow as a performer at Tarpon Springs, has a mind for engineering and math, and loves the challenge of the skilled precision required to be on the rifle line. Jill Ferrone, whose friends describe her as the ‘most loving and compassionate person,’ has plans to go into nursing after high school, is a graceful dancer who is thrilled about this ‘once in a lifetime’

chance to share her talents in the parade. Alex Bess, with her charming smile and passion for dance, has never been on a plane before, but can hardly wait to travel to New York City with her best friends for this adventure! Hana Gleason, who is self-assured and desires to become an FBI agent someday, loves the exhilaration of performing and inspiring the crowd. [Editor’s Note: After this article was written and just before press date, we found out that two more students, Samantha Haag and Haleigh Elks, were chosen to represent the Tarpon Springs High School Color Guard in the 2016 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. We regret we don’t have more information. Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles congratulates all of these hardworking high school students on their exceptional performance that has earned them this prestigious honor.] When I ask them why do they put in over 25 hours a week of practice (3 days a week after school for 4 hours! They tell me because they ‘love to dance,’ that the ‘thrill of per-

They also are committed to working as a team, becoming ‘their best selves, and making their coaches and directors proud.’ I notice something else in these girls. I see our community’s future leaders…girls who not only inspire others but also by their dedication and commitment,

show what’s possible when you put your mind to it and share your talents with the world. And on November 24th in New York City that is what they will get to do if we can help them get there! The trip will cost $2,000 per girl. That includes the cost of participation, a full week’s stay including meals and transportation, round-trip flights to
New York City, their costumes, some sightseeing, and a leadership seminar. And while this is an incredible honor to be selected, the cost of the trip is not provided and these amazing kids need the community’s support to help them achieve that. Picture this... it’s Thanksgiving morning in New York City. The air is crisp and cool, you can feel the excite-
ment and joy of the crowd as you see the beginning of the procession that features giant balloons and larger than life characters, musical performances from Broadway shows, floats, celebrity appearances and others participating in this world renown event. As these girls step off from Central Park, the Band of 200 hand selected students from around the U.S. will be cheered by 3 million live spectators, before arriving at Macy’s Herald Square for their national performance for more than 50 million TV viewers watching the broadcast live on NBC. It will be a defining moment, the perfect orchestration of all their hard work to shine and represent their school and community in front of the world. Indeed, it will be the trip of a lifetime. The Color Guard is a part of the Leadership Conservatory Program at Tarpon Springs High School, which will compete in the BOA Grand Nationals in November. Will you help these Tarpon Springs High School students get there? Please visit www.marchto2016macy.com to donate and learn more.

“Dr. Machhar” Continued from page 1 the doctor on call is the one who knows them personally. It really gives one peace-of-mind to know that Dr. Machhar will oversee hospital care if necessary. And, when you make an appointment with Dr. Machhar’s office, it is Dr. Machhar that you will see – not a different doctor, not a nurse practitioner. Together with his wife, Paresha, and their educated staff, Dr. Machhar provides patients old-fashioned, quality care given by professionals who love what they do. “What is most important to my patients is that they are able to see me on an emergency basis,” says Dr. Machhar. “I see them right away when necessary.” There are times when patients can get in right away with Dr. Machhar for something that he can help them with, which prevents them from having to go to the hospital. If you use Humana as your healthcare insurance, Dr. Machhar is the doctor for you, as he has been an exclusive Humana Health Care Provider throughout his career. By partnering with one specific insur-

ance provider, Dr. Machhar has given himself the opportunity to limit his practice to the number of patients he knows he can provide exceptional medical care to and still have time to know his patients. Patients receive the time with Dr. Machhar that they deserve, no matter what their needs are. Additionally, having been a Humana Provider for so many years has given Dr. Machhar insight into the network and the opportunity to establish relationships with other doctors in the area that he knows also are excellent healthcare providers, giving him a great referral list for his patients should they ever need a referral to a specialist or surgeon. Geriatric Medicine Focused on Longevity! Many of Dr. Machhar’s patients are up there in years, and he enjoys helping them stay as healthy as they can with a goal to live long into a happy old age. Dr. Machhar is very experienced at treating a variety of medical conditions that the elderly often face, such as diabetes, cardiology related concerns, osteoporosis, lung disease, high blood pressure, arthritis and more. Dr. Machhar is

said to be thorough and experienced without being an alarmist. Listening to his patients’ concerns, he doesn’t send people for tests they don’t need, or make people wait needlessly for results. He’s very considerate of his patients. But Dr. Machhar does believe in being proactive and is very diligent about offering screenings for skin, colon, prostate and breast cancer, as well as computerized testing for emphysema and the other smoking-related and lung disease issues that so many older people face today. A husband who is a patient shares, “My wife and I both go to his office and truly appreciate all he and his staff do for us. It brings us great joy every time we see him.” He also describes Dr. Machhar as “kind and caring” and “thorough,” and says he would recommend Dr. Machhar and his staff to anyone.

him and led me to have Dr Machhar as my Primary Physician. I recommend him highly.” Another patient said, “Dr. Machhar has been mine and my husband’s doctor since we moved to Florida in 1994. I couldn’t ask for a more caring man. He has saved my husband’s life three times. The man knows what he is talking about. He is never in a hurry and will explain things to you. His staff has always been nice and caring. I wouldn’t have anyone else for a doctor as long as he is till around. His wife works in the office and she is just as nice. They are like family to us. We need more caring doctors like Dr. Machhar.” A patient who describes himself as “not a young pup” and who has been going to Dr. Machhar for nearly a decade says that he moved around a lot for business during his younger years, and therefore had experiences with a lot of different doctors. He shared, “Dr. Machhar has provided the best medical experiences that I have ever had with a doctor. He treats me like a good friend not like a number out of all his patients. He is never in a rush. I really enjoy him. His medical diagnosis

of any problem that I have had was spot on. He has so much experience that his recommended treatments have always been right on the money. I have never waited more than 10 minutes in his waiting room. Everyone at his office is so friendly.” If you are a Humana member looking for a physician, make an appointment as a new patient with Dr. Machhar, who has more than 20 years of credibility and experience providing quality care to local patients. Make Everything Taste Better with some Heavenly Heat! By Matt Selby
Heavenly Heat wing sauce and marinade is fantastic! I may be a little bias because Davis Salo, the creator of Heavenly Heat is a good friend of mine but I think it’s the best stuff in the world! Not only is the hot sauce an old family recipe that tastes amazing, but David’s story is even more incredible. Let’s talk about how Heavenly Heat LLC was born! It all started with prayers, love and support from others. In 2012 a hot sauce owner by the name of David Salo was ready to move into the retail market and had been searching for the right person to help take him there. Little did David know at the other side of the state was a desperate mother praying for a way to pay medical bills and help her son survive, this was Josie. Josie is Nathan’s mom and Nate had been battling brain cancer that he was diagnosed with on August 28th 2012.
44
Nathan Dodds and David Salo
David and his family held a benefit for Nate to help with his medical bills and the event was a great success that helped the family pay off a large bill accumulated from the All Children’s Hospital. This was so helpful to Josie, Nate and his family. A fellowship of love, prayers and passion formed within the two families. Through conversations and listening to each other’s stories and goals David and Josie discovered they shared
For Ad Info 727-943-0551 • info@NNLFlorida.com
something more than just the goal of helping Nate. Josie worked in retail and had most of her life to David’s surprise. As David and Josie continued to discuss his current business plan they both realized that not only did God send David into their lives but by David doing an act of kindness, God also brought Josie into his life to help him achieve his goals. David’s goal was to be in retail grocery stores,
OCTOBER 2016
yet was in several smaller grocery locations for years. David was soon to find out that his goal was larger than just grocery stores, it was to help others in need. Well the moral of the story goes like this, after over almost two years “Heavenly Heat Wing Sauce and Marinade” was born. How did
Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles
we come up with the name you ask? Nate picked the word HEAVENLY because he felt God had brought us together and HEAT because the sauce is not HOT, it just had a beautiful, flavorful heat with every delicious bite. In July 2014 we had our prayers answered and was granted a meeting with Publix in which we were able to get our product into 320 stores. It has been a long road, David and Josie have worked very hard to get this far and still have a long way to go, but we have more ideas and bigger plans for the company. We believe it’s way bigger than us and this opportunity will give us at Heavenly Heat, a way to give back to other children in need. The support we have had from our families and friends is astonishing. People believed in us and supported us through thick and thin and here we are a little over a year. Big plans for Heavenly Heat and Nate’s future because when it was all said and done David Salo gave Nathan Dodds 49% of his company to show his love for the
Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles
cause. Not only will Nate have support for his medical bills he will also have support and a career for his future. Nathan now even works at Publix just like many local teenagers have before him. Please support our local hero David Salo and Nathan Dodds by picking up a few bottles of Heavenly Heat today at your local Publix! Look for it in the meat section and if you can’t find it there then go ahead and ask the store manager for assistance!
