Local Teacher Publishes First Books! Corbett Prep PreK3 teacher Aimee Popalis is now a published author! Aimee’s first two books, Everyone Plays Games and Everyone Plays Sports, were published this month. Part of Rourke Educational Media’s Little World Everyone Everywhere series, the children’s books explore commonalities and differences among kids across the globe as they play games and sports by themselves, on teams or with friends and family. The books are perfect for parents and teachers to read to preschool and kindergarten students or for older children to read on their own. A glossary in the back breaks down terminology that may be unfamiliar, and questions prompt discussions about sportsmanship, family or cultural traditions and personal interests. Everyone Plays Games and Everyone Plays Sports are available through Amazon.com, RourkeEducationalMedia.com, and other online book retailers. Aimee has always enjoyed writing and welcomed the challenge of nonfiction. “As a teacher, I like to take

complex topics and make them bitesized for little guys,” she says. The topics of play also appealed to her. She’s an athlete, coach and sports fan. Ever since she was little, she made up games to play with her brother and friends. Now she loves creating games for her PreK3 class!

The Maids Are Here Clean Up So You Don’t Have To By Deborah Bostock-Kelley Most people would rather have someone else do the dirty work. In today’s hectic pace, maid service has become an integral part of the monthly family budget. Once seen only as a luxury to the rich and famous, maids have become staples in working households who attempt to balance work and family, with little to no time for household chores. “More and more families are discovering the affordable benefits of having a dependable cleaning service, and once a new client starts with us they find so many more important moments to spend with family and friends or just relaxing by the pool,” explained Yamelis Imhof, founder of The Maids Are Here. “We love to bring that experience to our clients.” Finding a dependable maid service can be a difficult process. That is why Yamelis Imhof decided to make the selection process for choosing The Maids Are Here an easy one. Yamelis

offers a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee and the company is bonded, insured, and licensed for client’s protection. With a rigorous interview process, background check procedures, and indepth training period, Yamelis assures that all of her employees are properly vetted. Many new clients are surprised to find out just how affordable Yamelis’ cleaning services are. “We give a fair price that is based on the client’s home and need,” she said. “When we have new clients we explain in detail exactly what we are going to do.” Imhof, born in Havana, Cuba and a naturalized United States Citizen, founded her company in 2008 and covers both Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. The Maids Are Here specializes in residential house cleaning, including Move In/Move Out Cleaning, Seasonal Deep Cleans, Ongoing Recurring Service, Special Occasion Cleanings, and even special Deep Cleans for homes that go on the mar-

ket for sale. Prices vary by size of home and services requested, but The Maids Are Here offers free estimates online and by phone. “We have seen an increase in homes that are for sale calling for Deep Cleans. Everyone wants to buy a clean home and many times, the new owners stay with us to clean up once they have moved in and then we keep them clean all year long,” she said. Yamelis said the best way to choose a maid service is for the client to explain exactly what he or she is looking for. “Is it a Move Out, Special Occasion, etc.?” She asked, “Be sure the company can do that work. They should also know the size of their home; that helps set the price properly. Of course, you should always ask if the company is licensed, bonded, and insured – which we are. But, surprisingly many are not.” Imhof explained that the reasons

why clients hire The Maids Are Here are as varied as the clients themselves and she loves hearing the stories behind her new clients. “Some have a recent operation and we help them heal by cleaning for them; some have been working more hours; some want to surprise their spouse; some are now pregnant and want to get the home ready; many others I think finally realize that it’s just better to let us clean it up,” she said, “Anytime you pick up the vacuum or the mop or the scrub brush, think hard what you’d really rather be doing, then call us and go do it. You can live your life and let us clean it up.” Imhof is proud of her employees and said that they are what separates her company from other maid services. Imhof says, “Part of this process is we have a survey discount that we give clients for taking our online sur-

tions on her website. Some discounts are for one-time services and others continue the client’s savings by choosing recurring services. “Everything starts by having the right team members that care like we do; we cherish our clients. We want to create raving fans of our clients,” Imhof said, “Everyone feels so energized and positive when they step into a clean and fresh smelling home. We clean and bring happiness.” To learn more about The Maids Are Here or to get a free quote, please call (813) 756-4697 or visit TheMaidsAreHere.com.

And then we reward our team members for those surveys.” Another benefit of The Maids Are Here is that it is pet-friendly. “We know how special your pets are

to you and we take extra care to make sure they stay safe with minimal stress. We take extra care to make sure your pets also enjoy a fresh cleaned home,” she said. Imhof also offers special promo-

“Barkdoll” Continued from page 1 Massage Therapy Association, and is Nationally Board Certified. Karla’s massages can be done anywhere – at home, poolside, or at the office. Most of her clients choose the room in their house that offers the least distractions, and there she creates a wonderful environment for massage. She also takes the time to really speak to her clients before their massage to learn more about them so that she can create the best personalized massage experience. Lindsey from New Port Richey says, “If you are looking for the best massage, then look no further than Karla, she is a rare find. Once you have a massage from Karla, you will look no further, that I will guarantee!”

Massage Services that Improve Your Life “Your Health is your Wealth” is the philosophy at Barkdoll Massage Therapy, and that is why Karla takes the time to really find out what kind of massage you prefer, whether it’s a Swedish massage or a deep tissue treatment for chronic pain, Karla’s massage will make a difference in your life.

24

NOVEMBER 2015

Karla offers a wide range of affordable massage therapy styles and packages. If you are looking for a traditional massage, Swedish massage treatments are designed to improve circulation, reduce stress and to relieve muscle tension. This massage is very popular all over the world because of its light, long, and slow strokes that relax your cares and worries away. If you are interested in trying something a little different, hot stone massages use something called warm stone therapy, which is the art of using heated stones in combination with a Swedish massage. According to Karla, the warm stones dissolve muscle tension and induce a deep relaxation. Deep tissue massage is a therapeutic treatment designed to ease the pain and discomfort associated with chronic pain. Karla says, “During deep tissue massages I use trigger points to specifically find the places where the work needs to be done.” Deep tissue massages can help people who live with painful conditions live a fuller life. Another style of massage that Karla offers is sports massage and injury rehabilitation. This style of massage combines the benefits and style of a deep tissue massage with stretching, which can improve the range of motion in joints. Whether you are healing

after a car accident or are suffering from chronic pain associated with a medical condition, this kind of massage can be extremely beneficial. One of Karla’s clients from Trinity recently said, “I have had the pleasure of having Karla as a massage therapist for the past six years and it has always been an enriching and healing experience. She is knowledgeable, professional and a kindhearted person and I have no hesitation in recommending her service. She has hands of gold!” Prenatal massages are a fantastic way to pamper the mom-to-be while easing some of the side effects of pregnancy. Karla uses specially designed massage table pillows that create a comfortable position just for her during this time, so that pregnant moms can safely enjoy their massage. Aromatherapy is proven to aid in relaxation, which is why Barkdoll Massage Therapy offers a variety of essential oils and scents that can be used in collaboration with any other style of massage. Most often used with a Swedish

massage, aromatherapy oils are applied by Karla during your massage to enhance the massage experience. One local couple recently wrote, “We all have very busy schedules and it saves us time and stress to have Karla come right to our home. My husband has chronic pain and her weekly massages help him tremendously. Whether you just want a great stress reliever or you have a medical condition I would highly recommend Karla!” If you are looking for a fantastic way to improve morale at work, how about offering your employees a corporate seated massage? This is a fully clothed, seated massage that can be done right at the office. This style of massage focuses on the back, neck, shoulders, scalp, arms and hands. What a great way to let your employees know how much you care about them!

My Massage with Karla I am a huge fan of massages. I go every chance I get, but to be honest, that isn’t very often. When I’m not

Carrollwood Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

busy with my family or writing for the Neighborhood News, I’m like most moms and am usually concerned with everyone else’s comfort over my own. That’s why I was so excited to be given the chance to experience one of Karla’s massages by the staff at Neighborhood News. (Thanks Jim!) Scheduling my massage turned out to be a breeze because Barkdoll Massage Therapy is one of the only places that offers evening massage appointments. It was all very easy for me since I wasn’t going to have to worry about driving anywhere or a babysitter for the kids! On the evening of my massage appointment, I simply picked out a quiet room in the house, sent the kids outside to play with my hubby, and got ready to enjoy my massage. Karla arrived right on time and brought everything she needed with her. A true professional, Karla even wears a clinical massage uniform. Within just a few minutes Karla had set up the massage table and was set up and ready to go. I was really impressed with how quickly the room I had picked had been transformed. Before we started she spoke to me about what kind of massage treatment I wanted, and she asked if I had any injuries that she needed to be aware of. We decided on a combination Swedish and deep tissue massage. She also offered me

many different aromatherapy options from rose oil to eucalyptus. I felt totally at ease, and while she stepped out of the room, I comfortably got onto the massage table and got settled. When Karla came back in a moment later, she put on what I like to call “massage music,” and spoke to me about what she was going to do before she began. To my surprise, I was even more relaxed because I was at home. I enjoyed the entire hour instead of wondering how many minutes had passed, or wondering about the kids. I felt safe, pampered and well cared for. After my massage, I felt like a softened stick of butter, and I was able to just put on my slippers instead of my shoes! This was an incredibly cool experience that made me feel more centered, and really changed my outlook. I felt great for days and my entire family could see what a difference it made for me both physically and emotionally. I can see that a massage with Karla would be a great gift, which is why I’m so happy that she offers gift certificates, but one of the best parts about Barkdoll Massage Therapy is how affordable it is. I might not have to wait for a special occasion because her pricing is competitive and affordable enough to fit into anyone’s budget on a regular basis. From now on, I’m going to take better care of myself, and that includes

Carrollwood Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

having massage treatments from Barkdoll Massage Therapy on a regular basis. See you in a few weeks Karla! Barkdoll Massage Therapy is an entirely mobile massage therapy business that comes to you. Karla Barkdoll (License # MA47546) is

available 7 days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. by appointment only. To schedule an appointment or to request more information about massage packages, corporate events or gift certificates, call (727) 3726389 or email Karla at barkdollmassagetherapy@yahoo.com.

“Michael’s Grill” Continued from page 1 At the same location for over 15 years, Michael’s Grill is a cornerstone in the Carrollwood community, not only providing exceptional food and top-notch service, but also a friendly welcoming atmosphere where new customers become regulars, who quickly become friends and part of the Michael’s Grill family. “We give our customers the feeling as if they are coming into our home and our kitchen,” says Andrea. “We provide such a family atmosphere; this is a place where people will drop their guard and relax.” Michael says, “Owning a restaurant gives me the ability to meet so many different people. I can walk up to any table and start talking to them. I enjoy getting to know my customers.” There is a reason why Michael’s Grill has been so successful for so long – making it through the dreaded recession a couple years ago – and still continues to go strong. “No matter how tough times got, we never sacrificed the quality of our food and the ingredients used,” says Andrea. “Michael always stayed true to himself, only using real olive oil and creams, and fresh vegetables and produce.” Michael, in addition to being the owner, is also the head chef and creates everything from scratch, including all of the sauces, salad dressings, condiments and handcrafted soups – including their award winning She-Crab Bisque. At Michael’s Grill, the presentation of the meal is just as important as the meal itself, and each dish truly is a creative masterpiece. They offer an excellent selection of menu items to choose from, including their Chicken Julie Sandwich, their Wasabi Crusted Tuna and Michael’s Signature Crab Cakes (all featured above). “The focal point of the restaurant is the chalkboard,” says Michael. “The specials change from day to day; we have many customers who come in just for the chalkboard specials.” At Michael’s Grill the presentation of the meal is just as important as the meal itself, and each dish truly is a creative masterpiece, allowing you to eat with your eyes before you take the first bite. Looking over their lunch menu, which features a nice selection of soups, salads and sandwiches, I can easily see why so many customers choose this as

their go-to spot for lunch. In the mood for something on the lighter side – you are sure to find something you’ll love in their salad section, with options such as their Chicken Avocado Salad, made with mixed greens, tomatoes, avocado, mixed cheeses, and onions, topped in creamy ranch and blackened chicken, or their famous City Slicker Salad – their version of the Cobb salad – made with Romaine lettuce, chicken, bacon, blue cheese crumbles, avocado, tomatoes and tossed in a herb vinaigrette; this salad is every bit as delicious as it sounds and has

a generous portion size that is sure to satisfy any appetite. Their sandwich selection is just as great, with a variety of yummy offerings, including wraps, burgers and their one-of-a-kind Chicken Julie sandwich. Named after Andrea’s sister, who loves Brie cheese, this tantalizing sandwich showcases marinated grilled chicken topped with fried Brie, roasted red peppers and pear chutney on a Kaiser bun. Served with their homemade honey mustard dipping sauce, the combination of flavors is absolutely exquisite, and from the first bite, when the warm Brie oozes out,

Owners Andrea and Michael Reilly have put their heart and soul into Michael’s Grill, bringing you an upscale family restaurant where customers become regulars, who quickly become friends and family. you will be in sandwich heaven! Just as impressive, is the dinner menu, which has a fabulous variety of options to choose from, with tantalizing appetizers such as stuffed mushrooms, escargot, and fried brie, to name a few. On our previous visit my husband and I tried their Wasabi Crusted Tuna – which just so happens to be nominated as a finalist in the “Best Dish In The Biz” contest by the Tampa Business Journal, which is set to take place on November 6. With lightly crusted Ahi grade tuna served in a teriyaki ginger sauce, the crunchy outer layer was expertly contrasted by the freshness and tenderness of the tuna, and the flavors were tied in perfectly with the sweet soy ginger glaze. This dish was superb! Michael’s Signature Crab Cakes are another great recommendation, and from the first steaming bite you will be hooked. Voted #1 in Tampa, unlike some restaurants who skimp on the crab, these crab cakes had huge chunks of Jumbo Lump Crab Meat. Seasoned and pan seared to perfection, when dipped in their signature dipping sauce, you will be hooked for life! Looking over the entrees on the dinner menu, I know I will soon be back, especially to try their Blackberry Duck – crispy seared with a blackberry Demi sauce and served with mashed potatoes and veggies; I can almost guarantee my husband will order their Steak Au Poivre, which is noted as being “a taste of Paris with a brandy zesty continental sauce, served with twice

The Sticky Toffee Pudding is a little taste of heaven! baked potato and chef’s veggies.” No matter how full you are, you have to try their dessert – I recommend the Sticky Toffee Pudding. “My mother’s recipe from England, this is a secret recipe that no one knows except me,” says Andrea. This moist English cake, which is served in a toffee pecan sauce alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream, literally melts in your mouth as the sweet buttery sauce electrifies your taste buds! Michael’s Grill has a full liquor bar, which includes a wine list, giving guests the option to order wines by the glass or the bottle (make sure to ask Andrea about the hidden wine list, which has special wines not listed on the regular menu). and Sundays, starting at 9 a.m., Michael’s Grill has a excellent selection of breakfast options to choose from that are sure to satisfy your morning cravings.
