Trinity Family Physicians Surprise 15-Year-Old Caitlin Shannon With the Tampa Bay Making A Difference Award
Dr. Amir Shirmohammad and Dr. Stephanie Eldridge with their new daughter Violet in Dr. Eldridge’s arms, surprise Caitlin Shannon with a gift basket, and choose her as the second recipient of Trinity Family Physicians’ Tampa Bay Making A Difference Award! Caitlin Shannon is remarkable! She makes a difference to so many children in the Tampa Bay Area who are hospitalized by giving them something to smile about! Caitlin created Sparkle Power, a charity organization that gives goody bags filled with fun items to bring “the power of a little sparkle” to children who really need something to lift their spirits. It is no surprise that the 15-year-old was chosen by Trinity Family Physicians’ own Dr. Stephanie Eldridge and Dr. Amir Shirmohammad as the second recipient of the Tampa Bay Making A Difference Award. Committed to their patients and active in the Tampa Bay Area where they both grew up, the husband-and-wife team of physicians started the Tampa Bay Making A Difference Award to bring recognition to individuals who make a difference in the lives of others locally. Dr. “Shirmo” explains, “There are so many terrible things going on around the world. Dr. Eldridge and I just felt that we have to do something to make people feel happy and good.”
Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
With this Award, the doctors are able to honor individuals who work to put smiles on the faces of many, and they hope you will feel inspired at hearing Caitlin’s story. Caitlin suffered irreversible nerve damage during gall bladder surgery when she was just 13 years old. In and out of hospitals for two years while doctors searched for what was causing her excruciating pain, Caitlin bonded with many children and their families and resolved to make a difference for them. Wise beyond her years, she shares, “When someone is first diagnosed with a chronic illness or chronic pain, other people are so good about coming to the hospital and being involved in the first weeks but then it always dies down. I just wanted to do something to bring them happiness.” Caitlin and her family started collecting markers and crayons, stickers and notepads, and other items to make up Sparkle Power bags to give to children at local hospitals. Sparkle Power is proof that one young girl with the right team behind her can do
a lot! Now Sparkle Power is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that can continue to bring happiness to little ones in the hospital. Caitlin’s mom Brooke is a powerhouse herself and she gave her daughter some brilliant advice worth sharing. Brooke said, “I always talk to her about building your team. We all have people who want to help and support us – they are on our team – and it’s important to build your team. Like our guy at Sips Specialty Coffee House [on Gunn Hwy.] – he sees us coming and has our order ready every time, and before I can say, ‘We’re in a hurry,’ he is handing out the coffee and muffins. He is on our team.” I think I can speak for Dr. Shirmo and Dr. Eldridge when I say that after meeting Caitlin, we all want to be on her team! See “Award” on page 14

TCBY Brings You the Country’s Best Yogurt! By Dara Tucker Jay and Patty Silar opened the first TCBY Self-Serve on the West Coast of Florida in Trinity and it has remained a favorite spot for cool treats for over four years since it first opened! The amazing taste makes it hard to believe the frozen yogurt is 96, 98 or 100 percent fat free. With the holidays here, there is no better time than now to swing by and get a delicious frozen yogurt for yourself, or one of TCBY’s new milkshakes! And if you want to make someone really happy, put a TCBY gift card in his or her stocking! Even better, if you purchase $25 in gift cards during the months of November and December you receive an additional $5 gift card free. TCBY, also known as “The Country’s Best Yogurt,” originally opened in 1981, and is the oldest frozen yogurt company in the United States. The company has high health and quality standards that appeal to Patti Silar who is a retired RN. Patti says, “TCBY takes pains to purchase products that are high quality. Fruit is sanitized to

meet TCBY requirements, and we don’t use frozen fruit because it turns to mush on your yogurt. Our fruit are in their own juices instead of syrup.” Jay Silar adds, “Our yogurts are kosher and Halal certified. We want to meet our customers’ needs.” TCBY’s yogurt is delicious, smooth and creamy. The possibilities of flavor combinations and toppings seem endless, but you many not have known it has great nutritional value, too. TCBY has super frozen yogurts (Super Fro-Yo), which is a new classification of frozen yogurt that sets a high standard for nutrition within the frozen yogurt industry. To qualify as a Super Fro-Yo, TCBY’s frozen yogurts meet or exceed (based on a 4 oz., 1/2 cup serving) having at least 3 grams of fiber, 7 types of live and active cultures, 4 grams of protein, and 20% daily value of vitamin D and calcium. The fiber and probiotics in TCBY yogurt help you feel satisfied and aid your body in digestion, boosting your general health. Vitamin D and calcium are also essential for bone and muscle health. The protein in TCBY yogurt contains amino acids that help proper muscle

They always went above-and-beyond to offer great customer service. We love our Trinity TCBY!” Trinity’s TCBY is bright and fun, with a textured wall that changes colors. Between the music, bright colors,

and cheerful staff, Patti, Jay and Jenifer have created an atmosphere that’s perfect for enjoying a treat. If you’re unsure which of the ten flavors you should try, don’t worry! An employee is happy to give you a sample. You don’t need to decide on just one flavor either. You can fill your 16 or 25 oz. cup with as little or as much as the cup can hold. Bananas are available to turn your frozen yogurt into a banana split. If you don’t like your flavors mixing, cup dividers can be used to separate them. The ten available flavors rotate or change periodically, but there is always a no-sugaradded option and a non-milk based option. For example, Silk™ coconut milk and Silk™ chocolate almond milk are the current non-dairy options available. In the upcoming months additional frozen yogurt flavors TCBY will be carrying include English toffee, blueberry, chocolate chip mint and apricot. After you dispense your frozen yogurt, head over to the topping bar, which has over 45 different toppings to choose from, including fresh fruit and crushed
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. There are plenty of kids’ favorites such as gummies and candy chocolate rocks. You can top it off with hot chocolate fudge or warm walnuts in a caramel sauce. It’s possible to come to TCBY every day of the month, and never put together a repeat combination of yogurt and toppings! Jay, Patti, and Jenifer are involved in several community projects and fundraisers including Taste of Trinity and Long Leaf Fall Festival. As active members of our community, you’ll spot the TCBY “car” around town, and at places such as the New Port Richey and Tarpon Springs Christmas Parades. Jenifer also works with local non-for-profit groups for spirit nights. For a set number of hours, a portion of the proceeds made on a designated night goes back to the school or church as a fundraiser. It’s fun and delicious way to earn money for your non-for-profit group. TCBY provides the Trinity area with a scrumptious and healthy yogurt shop that is perfect for taking the kids for a treat, birthday celebration, date night, or to take a pint from their freezer home to enjoy. When you go make sure to ask for a loyalty reward card that gives you 1 point for every

LOCAL 15 YEAR OLD STARTS A NON-PROFIT AND JOINS FORCES WITH CORPORATE CONFERENCE COMPANY TO HELP THOSE IN NEED
Sparkle Power and IQPC Exchange team up to benefit Ronald McDonald House After multiple stays in the hospital, a local 15-year-old girl has used her experience to recognize a need of others. While at the hospital, Caitlin Shannon found herself dreading long days in the hospital awaiting tests and procedures and thought that many other children in her position, or worse, may experience the same feeling. When thinking about her experience, Caitlin, the oldest of four siblings, says, “When I was 13, I was in and out of the hospital and surgery centers for two years. It gave me an amazing outlook.” Caitlin has put her thoughts into action. While most 15-year-old girls are busy trying to take the perfect selfie, Caitlin is helping others. With the support of her family, Caitlin has created a charity called Sparkle Power. The name is significant because “sparkle” represents goodies that brighten a patient’s day and “power” represents the power of a positive
12
attitude to help a patient recover faster. Through Sparkle Power, Caitlin brings joy to children that find themselves hospitalized for extended periods of time by bringing them ‘care packages’, that she simply calls Sparkle Power Boxes. A Sparkle Power Box consists of items to banish hospital room boredom and includes things like coloring books, crayons and even socks for cold hospital rooms. Her inspiration for the boxes came from little things she received while in the hospital. She recalls, “When I would get a small gift, like Chapstick, a personal comfort item, or something small like we have in the

Caitlin Shannon (left) is a remarkable teenager who started the Sparkle Power charity to boost the spirits of children who are receiving medical treatment at hospitals Sparkle Power goodie bags, it really brightens your day.” Caitlin’s mom, Brooke Shannon, is in awe of her daughter’s level of philanthropy. When asked about Caitlin’s inspiration to create Sparkle Power, Brooke said, “It really touched her heart when she saw other children

alone, bored or really not having anything to get them through the day and she had her siblings and my husband and I to visit and bring little goodies, but she noticed that some of the other children in the hospital would be lonely and sad. She thought maybe, once she was feeling better, she could do some-
Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
thing to help brighten these kids’ days and maybe that would help them recover a little faster. That’s what prompted her to come up with her charity. Now that she’s feeling better, she wants to give back to her community.” One look at this amazing young lady’s charity Instagram account, @sparklepoweroffical, and even the coldest heart will begin to melt. Viewers are met with the smiling faces of children that Caitlin has helped and the stories of hope and courage that each child possesses. It is clear to see that Caitlin has a huge heart and cares deeply for each and every child she helps. Since security protocols at some hospitals make it difficult to deliver the packages directly to patients, Ronald McDonald House charities seemed like the perfect way to get the care packages in the hands of the families. Ronald McDonald House provides no cost housing to families with children that are long term or frequent patients at nearby hospitals. Moved by Caitlin’s dedication to helping others, a corporate conference company called IQPC Exchange took notice of Sparkle Power. While its parent company, IQPC, is a worldwide
Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
business, IQPC Exchange itself only has two offices in the United States, including New York and one here in Tampa. The company plans and hosts multiple nationwide conferences for executives and thought leaders from Fortune 1000 companies. IQPC Exchange has now joined forces with Sparkle Power to help children and their families with extended hospital stays. To take it a step further, IQPC Exchange has expanded the care packages to include items for not only the patients, but for the families as well. Items include non-perishable food items, toys for siblings, toiletries and more. IQPC Exchange has placed Jessica Yeshaiek in a lead position of the efforts and she could not be more thrilled. Jessica’s college sorority was heavily involved with RMH and she’s ecstatic to be involved with such an incredible mix of caring organizations. IQPC Exchange has also begun bringing the items to the conferences and getting the attending executives onboard with participating in creating the packages to give to the families. One of the attendees tweeted a photo of the packages and said how much he loved being a part of the ‘social responsibility.’
Yeshaiek said, “It is really heartwarming for us to have a chance to give back to the Tampa Bay community. We are proud to be part of an initiative to support Sparkle Power and Ronald McDonald House by assembling the Sparkle Power goodie bags at IQPC events around the country, then delivering them to The Ronald McDonald House to give to deserving families.” With the help of more companies like IQPC Exchange, Caitlin and Sparkle Power will be able to reach more families. Sparkle Power, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit company.

Caitlin is active in her high school’s drama program and according to her mother Brooke; she is an amazing and attentive big sister to her three younger siblings. Her charity, Sparkle Power, is sure to continue to grow and bring smiles to children throughout Tampa Bay who are in our local hospitals. Currently, Caitlin is running Sparkle Power out of her bedroom, which her mom says is stacked with trays and bins of supplies for the Sparkle Power bags. One local school has gotten onboard, teaming with Sparkle Power and gathering supplies through the holidays to fill the bags that will put some sparkle in a child’s day. It is our hope that Sparkle Power will continue to gain the support of local businesses and schools throughout Tampa Bay, bringing a dose of happiness to even more hospitalized children. Mitchell High School, is excited to announce that the Marching Mustangs Band has been invited to perform in the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade on April 16, 2016. One of Washington DC’s largest spectator events, the high energy Parade will run for ten blocks down historic Constitution Avenue. Accompanied by giant colorful helium balloons, elaborate floats, and celebrity entertainers, the Marching Mustangs will travel the Parade route in a grand spectacle of music and showmanship. The Marching Mustangs were selected based on a variety of criteria including musicianship, marching ability, and entertainment value. These students deserve your support as they have been working very hard. Currently 209 members strong, the J.W. Mitchell High School band program is the largest in Pasco County. The band is comprised of several ensembles, including the Marching Mustangs, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, Concert Band, Colorguard, Jazz Ensembles, and Percussion Ensembles. Not only has it become known for its impressive size, but also for the talent and commit-
ment of the students. Kraushaar award. Students enrolled in music programs learn important life skills, including self discipline, time management, memorization, and reasoning skills. High School music students have a graduation rate over 94%. A large majority of our graduates pursue higher education and are successful in their chosen fields. The J.W. Mitchell High School band program is supported primarily through fundraisers, student/parent contributions, and corporate sponsorships. Let the Savings Begin! The Tampa Premium Outlets in Lutz is Now Open! By Julie Kanehl Tampa Premium Outlets is the long-awaited outlet mall that has Lutz and Wesley Chapel at the center of a lot of attention! Located at 2300 Grand Cypress Drive in Lutz, just off of S.R. 56 and west of I-75, its location is convenient to all of Tampa Bay. Tampa Premium Outlets opened its doors on October 29th at 10 a.m. to excited crowds, impressive lines and of course, a lot of great deals. Owned by The Simon Property Group, which owns retail properties in 37 states and Puerto Rico, Tampa Premium Outlets has a lot of experience designing crowd-pleasing retail centers like this one. Their Grand Opening event included music, fireworks, and the opening of 103 stores, including popular brands like Coach, Nike Factory, Vera Bradley, Calvin Klein, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Michael Kors. Anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th, Tampa Premium Outlets is a 441,000sq.-ft. retail center that has more than

20 shoe stores, alone. Add in some fun dining options like Johnny Rockets (which will actually be opening on November 12th), a playground area for the kiddos, and savings that you just won’t find at other malls, and it’s no surprise that people are flocking to the new shopping center in droves! Grand Opening Success! The main courtyard at Tampa Premium Outlets was abuzz throughout the day with live entertainment, contests and giveaways, and even stilt walkers made the rounds as many guests lined up at their favorite stores, eager to be one of the first ones in the door. Many of the stores offered gifts to the first 100 people inside, like Helzberg Diamonds, who offered a free pearl bracelet and extra savings to their first customers. There was a lot of excitement for kids of all ages at the Disney Outlet Store, as they gave away special edition Mickey ears to their first paying customers while supplies lasted. While many retailers used

like Swarovski simply sparkled, Kitchen Collection has you wanting to become a chef, and did I mention that there’s a Lindt Chocolate and an Auntie Anne’s? All the excitement and crowds aside, the employees of Tampa Premium Outlet and of the individual outlet stores were simply fantastic. Everyone was super-informative, helpful and while the mall was busy, it was

a pleasurable place to shop! I spoke to one local shopper who came to the Grand Opening with her mom and her two young children, she said, “I’ve gotten some great deals! I’m really happy we came. TréSkinRX Promised Me Healthy Skin & Real Results... It Worked! By Katie Thomas Healthy skin translates to beautiful skin, something we all strive for and if you’re anything like me (and many others) you know that healthy skin doesn’t always come easy. As a teen, my skin was clear, but along with adulthood came adult acne and I tried product after product with no satisfaction until recently when I received a starter kit of TréSkinRX products from glowwithdoreen.com. Whether struggling with acne, wrinkles, uneven texture, dry or dull skin, the hassle of finding a product that really works can be frustrating and mistakes are costly, and believe me, I’d wasted my share of money on products that didn’t work. I wanted an all-natural product that really works, that is simple to use with simple ingredients, and one that would give my skin the healthy glow I desired. Was that too much to ask? Lucky for me, Doreen Selby, CFO of Neighborhood News & Lifestyles found a skin care line that delivers on its promises! It all started with a Mother’s Day gift from her family; after a facial

with International Aesthetician Annette McPhee, who owns Celtic Day Spa in Westchase, Doreen’s skin was truly glowing. She says, “All the products used during my facial were from TréSkinRX. The facial itself was a relaxing, transcendent experience but it was the aftermath of the product that really blew me away. I immediately felt a full change in my skin - it was soft, hydrated and had a glow to it that I hadn’t seen in a long time.” Impressed, she brought home a twoweek sample kit of the TréSkinRX basic skin care products. “I was amazed at the difference in my skin after only a few days into using the product,” shares Doreen. “Upon further use, I realized the 100% organic aloe vera, the base ingredient of all TréSkinRX products, was literally healing my skin. It reduced the inflammation I had been experiencing, resulting in getting rid of my rosacea. My friends, family members and coworkers began complimenting my skin and asking what product I was using. That is when I decided to look deeper into the reason TréSkinRX was working

better than any other product I had ever used before, because it was apparent to me and others that my skin was undergoing a change for the better!” Doreen did some research online and found that TréSkinRX products are made with 100% organic pharmaceutical grade aloe vera, which is proven to be anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, wound healing, therapeutic and an anesthetic. The molecular

structure of aloe is able to penetrate through our skin, to hydrate it and bring pH levels back to normal. TréSkinRX products were created by Ahmed Abdullah, MD, who is a board certified plastic and cosmetic surgeon and a recognized expert on the restorative and medicinal effects of aloe vera. Dr. Abdullah is a member of the International Aloe Science Council (IASC) based in Dallas, Texas, and has
Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
served on its board of directors. He is a pioneer of the practice of using pharmaceutical-grade aloe in plastic surgery for the treatment of skin damage. “After researching and investigating the TréSkinRX product line for myself and becoming fully aware of the science behind 100% organic aloe vera, I knew I had to become a part of the TréSkinRX team to better share the amazing, transformative skin care line with people that I know,” says Doreen. “Even though I have a full time career with Neighborhood News & Lifestyles, I find that Glow With Doreen is a fun and rewarding business venture that has been very satisfying. I like it that I am not required to carry inventory or meet sales quotas. I have always enjoyed helping people and becoming a TréSkinRX Launch Manager has given me the ability to not only help people with their skin, but with their confidence as well. It just feels good!” My Personal Experience With TréSkinRX For some reason, I had beautiful clear skin as a teenager, but as soon as I turned 22, I started having problems with adult acne from small red marks
Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
on my cheeks to cystic under-the-skin pimples that really hurt. I have tried so many different skin care products from all natural products, to over-thecounter acne washes and toners, to dermatologist-prescribed topical treatments. I’ve known Doreen for over twelve years and she has personally seen me struggle with adult acne. She thought TréSkinRX might help and gave me a trial kit just to try. I could not believe the results. The inflammation in my cheeks went away after one week. After two weeks, I was amazed at the difference in my skin. I even felt confident enough to not wear concealer or foundation! I love the simplicity of TréSkinRX. I still use the same products that come in the two-week, four-product trial kit: Purifying Cleanser, EX3 Daily Renewing Exfoliant, Triple Defense Day Moisturizer with SPF 15, and Night Repair Moisturizer. Plus, I added the Clear Skin Blemish Control cream. My favorite product is the EX3 Daily Renewing Exfoliant, which is composed of certified organic pharmaceutical grade aloe vera, glycolic acid with an effective pH level of
2.1–2.3 and high potency vitamin C. To understand how EX3 works, you have to first understand the ph scale in relation to skin and how it works with glycolic acid - the lower the pH, the more acidic a product, ultimately resulting in being more effective at removing keratin or dead skin cells. EX3 has the lowest effective pH available without a doctor’s office peel. Dr. Abdullah realized that given aloe’s superior anti-inflammatory properties, it seemed logical that generous amounts of aloe paired with acid would ensure enough hydrogen ions (acid) to dissolve dead skin layers while preventing a burn. Basically, EX3’s pH level of 2.1 – 2.3 is nearly the same as that of an in-office chemical peel (pH 2.0), but you can do it yourself at home. EX3 utilizes pure pharmaceutical aloe and glycolic acid in conjunction with

Vitamin C, A and E, which serve as antioxidants. The TréSkinRX product line includes options for people with sensitive skin, normal skin, dry skin, and there even is a line available for people suffering from acne. My skin has never felt so good and my confidence in my skin’s health and appearance has never been higher. TréSkinRX is soon releasing a mineral makeup line that will contain no oils, talc, bismuth, oxychloride, fragrances, synthetic materials or chemicals – I’m excited about that! For information about TréSkinRX or to order a twoweek, four-product trial kit for $14.99, please contact Doreen Selby at (727) 946-1596 or place your order online at www.glowwithdoreen.com.

We did our did our due diligence and met with some other contractors obtaining estimates, but again chose to do business
with Yeager based upon the price, comfort level with Yeager, and (most importantly) our satisfaction with the previous job. Jim Yeager clearly cares about the quality of the finished project.” “I could not have asked for more,” says another reviewer. “They were timely, professional and provided service above and beyond my expectations. “Mangrove Bay” Continued from page 1 want them to feel a sense of ‘wow’; we try to make it so they actually enjoy coming to the dentist.” Dr. Tran’s goal is to make his patients feel so comfortable with coming to the dentist that they don’t procrastinate. Instead, he wants them to make coming a priority, not only because they need to come, but because they enjoy coming and interacting with the TEAM. One patient writes, “EXCELLENT experience! I have anxiety about seeing dentists (as many people do), but the staff was very friendly and professional, the hygienist was extremely gentle and thorough. The office itself was very sanitary. Dr. Tran was friendly and took the time to go over my x-rays and explain to me various aspects of what was going on (which is rare for a dentist to actually take time explaining as he did). I wasn't waiting long at all. Afterwards my teeth looked great! I would highly recommend this dentist to anyone who has anxiety or fear of dentists, or just anyone who is looking for a quality dental practice to take your family.” Mangrove Bay Dentistry’s services include everything from regular check-

ups and cleanings to dental implant restorations. Mangrove Bay Dentistry also provides services and repairs for full and partial dentures, as well as cosmetic dentistry in porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, ClearCorrectTM (clear braces) aligner therapy, and restorative dentistry with metal-free composite bonding and fillings, root canals, extractions, crowns and bridges, and more. Mangrove Bay Dentistry is a fullservice, one-stop-office for your entire family dental needs, whether it is cosmetic changes you desire or healthy gums and teeth. Dr. Tran and his staff are very good when it comes to explaining dental procedures and thus patient education is a very important aspect of every visit. By empowering his patients with the proper information Dr. Tran gives them the power to choose what is best for them. “When a patient is knowledgeable and educated they will make the right decision for themselves,” says Dr. Tran. “I don’t try to force them into anything. I am confident that if I educate them enough about their options they will do what is right for their dental health.” What I enjoy most about Dr. Tran is how easy he is to talk to – even when sitting down for the interview it was like I was talking with a long-time friend. And, after reading all the posi-

tive testimonials online I can see why so many have chosen him as their dentist. Not only does he take the time to get to know his patients, but he is really good at communicating with them and keeping them informed about their dental health. Teeth are something a lot of people take for granted, that is until they have a problem. Dr. Tran not only teaches his patients the importance of appreciating the teeth they have, but he also educates them on proper hygiene, as to avoid any problems before they can ever arise. “The thing I love most about dentistry is building relationships with the patients,” says Dr. Tran. “I meet people from all walks of life, all with different experiences and life stories. I enjoy talking with my patients and getting to know them. You never know who is going to walk in or what the day will bring.” The TEAM at Mangrove Bay Dentistry understands that you have a busy schedule and that you don’t want to make going to the dentist an all day affair, especially if you are just going in for minor work or a cleaning. Dr. Tran and his TEAM will always respect your time; they want to break the negative stigma that many people have about going to the dentist – thinking that dentists always run late. Dr. Tran says, “We value our patients’ time and do
