TCBY Brings You the Country’s Best Yogurt! By Dara Tucker Jay and Patty Silar opened the first TCBY Self-Serve on the West Coast of Florida in Trinity and it has remained a favorite spot for cool treats for over four years since it first opened! The amazing taste makes it hard to believe the frozen yogurt is 96, 98 or 100 percent fat free. With the holidays here, there is no better time than now to swing by and get a delicious frozen yogurt for yourself, or one of TCBY’s new milkshakes! And if you want to make someone really happy, put a TCBY gift card in his or her stocking! Even better, if you purchase $25 in gift cards during the months of November and December you receive an additional $5 gift card free. TCBY, also known as “The Country’s Best Yogurt,” originally opened in 1981, and is the oldest frozen yogurt company in the United States. The company has high health and quality standards that appeal to Patti Silar who is a retired RN. Patti says, “TCBY takes pains to purchase products that are high quality. Fruit is sanitized to
10
meet TCBY requirements, and we don’t use frozen fruit because it turns to mush on your yogurt. Our fruit are in their own juices instead of syrup.” Jay Silar adds, “Our yogurts are kosher and Halal certified. We want to meet our customers’ needs.” TCBY’s yogurt is delicious, smooth and creamy. The possibilities of flavor combinations and toppings seem endless, but you many not have known it has great nutritional value, too. TCBY has super frozen yogurts (Super Fro-Yo), which is a new classification of frozen yogurt that sets a high standard for nutrition within the frozen yogurt industry. To qualify as a Super Fro-Yo, TCBY’s frozen yogurts meet or exceed (based on a 4 oz., 1/2 cup serving) having at least 3 grams of fiber, 7 types of live and active cultures, 4 grams of protein, and 20% daily value of vitamin D and calcium. The fiber and probiotics in TCBY yogurt help you feel satisfied and aid your body in digestion, boosting your general health. Vitamin D and calcium are also essential for bone and muscle health. The protein in TCBY yogurt contains amino acids that help proper muscle

They always went above-and-beyond to offer great customer service. We love our Trinity TCBY!” Trinity’s TCBY is bright and fun, with a textured wall that changes colors. Between the music, bright colors,
and cheerful staff, Patti, Jay and Jenifer have created an atmosphere that’s perfect for enjoying a treat. If you’re unsure which of the ten flavors you should try, don’t worry! An employee is happy to give you a sample. You don’t need to decide on just one flavor either. You can fill your 16 or 25 oz. cup with as little or as much as the cup can hold. Bananas are available to turn your frozen yogurt into a banana split. If you don’t like your flavors mixing, cup dividers can be used to separate them. The ten available flavors rotate or change periodically, but there is always a no-sugaradded option and a non-milk based option. For example, Silk™ coconut milk and Silk™ chocolate almond milk are the current non-dairy options available. In the upcoming months additional frozen yogurt flavors TCBY will be carrying include English toffee, blueberry, chocolate chip mint and apricot. After you dispense your frozen yogurt, head over to the topping bar, which has over 45 different toppings to choose from, including fresh fruit and crushed

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. There are plenty of kids’ favorites such as gummies and candy chocolate rocks. You can top it off with hot chocolate fudge or warm walnuts in a caramel sauce. It’s possible to come to TCBY every day of the month, and never put together a repeat combination of yogurt and toppings! Jay, Patti, and Jenifer are involved in several community projects and fundraisers including Taste of Trinity and Long Leaf Fall Festival. As active members of our community, you’ll spot the TCBY “car” around town, and at places such as the New Port Richey and Tarpon Springs Christmas Parades. Jenifer also works with local non-for-profit groups for spirit nights. For a set number of hours, a portion of the proceeds made on a designated night goes back to the school or church as a fundraiser. It’s fun and delicious way to earn money for your
non-for-profit group. TCBY provides the Trinity area with a scrumptious and healthy yogurt shop that is perfect for taking the kids for a treat, birthday celebration, date night, or to take a pint from their freezer home to enjoy. When you go make sure to ask for a loyalty reward card that gives you 1 point for every dollar you spend, and after 30 points you earn a $3 coupon. If you are looking for gift that’s sure to be loved, purchase a TCBY gift card for any amount. TCBY of Trinity is located at 3140 Little Road in the Mitchell Ranch Plaza. They are open Mon. – Thurs., 12–9 p.m. and 12–10 p.m. on Fri. and Sat. Call (727) 3751177 for more information about spirit nights, and check out TCBY of Trinity’s Facebook page or website www.tcbytrinity.com for upcoming events and flavors.

LOCAL 15-YEAR-OLD STARTS A NON-PROFIT AND JOINS FORCES WITH CORPORATE CONFERENCE COMPANY TO HELP THOSE IN NEED
Sparkle Power and IQPC Exchange team up to benefit Ronald McDonald House After multiple stays in the hospital, a local 15-year-old girl has used her experience to recognize a need of others. While at the hospital, Caitlin Shannon found herself dreading long days in the hospital awaiting tests and procedures and thought that many other children in her position, or worse, may experience the same feeling. When thinking about her experience, Caitlin, the oldest of four siblings, says, “When I was 13, I was in and out of the hospital and surgery centers for two years. It gave me an amazing outlook.” Caitlin has put her thoughts into action. While most 15-year-old girls are busy trying to take the perfect selfie, Caitlin is helping others. With the support of her family, Caitlin has created a charity called Sparkle Power. The name is significant because “sparkle” represents goodies that brighten a patient’s day and “power” represents the power of a positive
14
attitude to help a patient recover faster. Through Sparkle Power, Caitlin brings joy to children that find themselves hospitalized for extended periods of time by bringing them ‘care packages’, that she simply calls Sparkle Power Boxes. A Sparkle Power Box consists of items to banish hospital room boredom and includes things like coloring books, crayons and even socks for cold hospital rooms. Her inspiration for the boxes came from little things she received while in the hospital. She recalls, “When I would get a small gift, like Chapstick, a personal comfort item, or something small like we have in the

Caitlin Shannon (left) is a remarkable teenager who started the Sparkle Power charity to boost the spirits of children who are receiving medical treatment at hospitals Sparkle Power goodie bags, it really brightens your day.” Caitlin’s mom, Brooke Shannon, is in awe of her daughter’s level of philanthropy. When asked about Caitlin’s inspiration to create Sparkle Power, Brooke said, “It really touched her heart when she saw other children

alone, bored or really not having anything to get them through the day and she had her siblings and my husband and I to visit and bring little goodies, but she noticed that some of the other children in the hospital would be lonely and sad. She thought maybe, once she was feeling better, she could do some-

thing to help brighten these kids’ days and maybe that would help them recover a little faster. That’s what prompted her to come up with her charity. Now that she’s feeling better, she wants to give back to her community.” One look at this amazing young lady’s charity Instagram account, @sparklepoweroffical, and even the coldest heart will begin to melt. Viewers are met with the smiling faces of children that Caitlin has helped and the stories of hope and courage that each child possesses. It is clear to see that Caitlin has a huge heart and cares deeply for each and every child she helps. Since security protocols at some hospitals make it difficult to deliver the packages directly to patients, Ronald McDonald House charities seemed like the perfect way to get the care packages in the hands of the families. Ronald McDonald House provides no cost housing to families with children that are long term or frequent patients at nearby hospitals. Moved by Caitlin’s dedication to helping others, a corporate conference company called IQPC Exchange took notice of Sparkle Power. While its parent company, IQPC, is a worldwide
business, IQPC Exchange itself only has two offices in the United States, including New York and one here in Tampa. The company plans and hosts multiple nationwide conferences for executives and thought leaders from Fortune 1000 companies. IQPC Exchange has now joined forces with Sparkle Power to help children and their families with extended hospital stays. To take it a step further, IQPC Exchange has expanded the care packages to include items for not only the patients, but for the families as well. Items include non-perishable food items, toys for siblings, toiletries and more. IQPC Exchange has placed Jessica Yeshaiek in a lead position of the efforts and she could not be more thrilled. Jessica’s college sorority was heavily involved with RMH and she’s ecstatic to be involved with such an incredible mix of caring organizations. IQPC Exchange has also begun bringing the items to the conferences and getting the attending executives onboard with participating in creating the packages to give to the families. One of the attendees tweeted a photo of the packages and said how much he loved being a part of the ‘social responsibility.’
Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
Yeshaiek said, “It is really heartwarming for us to have a chance to give back to the Tampa Bay community. We are proud to be part of an initiative to support Sparkle Power and Ronald McDonald House by assembling the Sparkle Power goodie bags at IQPC events around the country, then delivering them to The Ronald McDonald House to give to deserving families.” With the help of more companies like IQPC Exchange, Caitlin and Sparkle Power will be able to reach more families. Sparkle Power, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit company.

Caitlin created Sparkle Power, a charity organization that gives goody bags filled with fun items to bring “the power of a little sparkle” to children who really need something to lift their spirits. It is no surprise that the 15-year-old was chosen by Trinity Family Physicians’ own Dr. Stephanie Eldridge and Dr. Amir Shirmohammad as the second recipient of the Tampa Bay Making A Difference Award. Committed to their patients and active in the Tampa Bay Area where they both grew up, the husband-and-wife team of physicians started the Tampa Bay Making A Difference Award to bring recognition to individuals who make a difference in the lives of others locally. Dr. “Shirmo” explains, “There are so many terrible things going on around the world. Dr. Eldridge and I just felt that we have to do something

to make people feel happy and good.” With this Award, the doctors are able to honor individuals who work to put smiles on the faces of many, and they hope you will feel inspired at hearing Caitlin’s story. Caitlin suffered irreversible nerve damage during gall bladder surgery when she was just 13 years old. In and out of hospitals for two years while doctors searched for what was causing her excruciating pain, Caitlin bonded with many children and their families and resolved to make a difference for them. Wise beyond her years, she shares, “When someone is first diagnosed with a chronic illness or chronic pain, other people are so good about coming to the hospital and being involved in the first weeks but then it always dies down. I just wanted to do something to bring them happiness.” Caitlin and her family started collecting markers and crayons, stickers and notepads, and other items to make up Sparkle Power bags to give to children at local hospitals. Trinity Family Physicians gave Caitlin a basket of goodies for a little Sparkle Power of her own us – they are on our team – and it’s important to build your team. Like our guy at Sips Specialty Coffee House [on Gunn Hwy.] – he sees us coming and has our order ready every time, and before I can say, ‘We’re in a hurry,’ he is handing out the coffee and muffins. He is on our team.” I think I can speak for Dr. Shirmo and Dr. Eldridge when I say that after
meeting Caitlin, we all want to be on her team! Caitlin is active in her high school’s drama program and according to her mother Brooke; she is an amazing and attentive big sister to her three younger siblings. Her charity, Sparkle Power, is sure to continue to grow and bring smiles to children throughout Tampa Bay who are in our local hospitals. Currently, Caitlin is running Sparkle Power out of her bedroom, which her mom says is stacked with trays and bins of supplies for the Sparkle Power bags. One local school has gotten onboard, teaming with Sparkle Power and gathering supplies through the holidays to fill the bags that will put some sparkle in a child’s day. It is our hope that Sparkle Power will continue to gain the support of local businesses and schools throughout Tampa Bay, bringing a dose of happiness to even more hospitalized children. (To learn more about Sparkle Power, please read the story on page 14.) Let the Savings Begin! The Tampa Premium Outlets in Lutz is Now Open! By Julie Kanehl Tampa Premium Outlets is the long-awaited outlet mall that has Lutz and Wesley Chapel at the center of a lot of attention! Located at 2300 Grand Cypress Drive in Lutz, just off of S.R. 56 and west of I-75, its location is convenient to all of Tampa Bay. Tampa Premium Outlets opened its doors on October 29th at 10 a.m. to excited crowds, impressive lines and of course, a lot of great deals. Owned by The Simon Property Group, which owns retail properties in 37 states and Puerto Rico, Tampa Premium Outlets has a lot of experience designing crowd-pleasing retail centers like this one. Their Grand Opening event included music, fireworks, and the opening of 103 stores, including popular brands like Coach, Nike Factory, Vera Bradley, Calvin Klein, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Michael Kors. Anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th, Tampa Premium Outlets is a 441,000sq.-ft. retail center that has more than

20 shoe stores, alone. Add in some fun dining options like Johnny Rockets (which will actually be opening on November 12th), a playground area for the kiddos, and savings that you just won’t find at other malls, and it’s no surprise that people are flocking to the new shopping center in droves! Grand Opening Success! The main courtyard at Tampa Premium Outlets was abuzz throughout the day with live entertainment, contests and giveaways, and even stilt walkers made the rounds as many guests lined up at their favorite stores, eager to be one of the first ones in the door. Many of the stores offered gifts to the first 100 people inside, like Helzberg Diamonds, who offered a free pearl bracelet and extra savings to their first customers. There was a lot of excitement for kids of all ages at the Disney Outlet Store, as they gave away special edition Mickey ears to their first paying customers while supplies lasted. While many retailers used

like Swarovski simply sparkled, Kitchen Collection has you wanting to become a chef, and did I mention that there’s a Lindt Chocolate and an Auntie Anne’s? All the excitement and crowds aside, the employees of Tampa Premium Outlet and of the individual outlet stores were simply fantastic. Everyone was super-informative, helpful and while the mall was busy, it was
a pleasurable place to shop! I spoke to one local shopper who came to the Grand Opening with her mom and her two young children, she said, “I’ve gotten some great deals! I’m really happy we came. The lines to pay are long, but worth it.” She also said, “I really like that there are lots of areas to sit and rest between shopping!” Simon Properties did a great job of designing the shopping center to

The tattoo art studio is an Asian Zen style with some industrial touches. The talent of his wife Julie, and her vision to decorate, created a

As a young adult, Steven studied art anatomy classes at SUNY Farmingdale, as well as art and design classes at the Art Institute. Come visit and experience for yourself why it is vital to value art the same way we live life – with passion!”
LITOS “Tattoos tell stories,” says Litos, “and my job as a fine art tattooist is to master the ability to stop time and capture it on your skin.” Litos has been in the Tattoo industry for 37 years. Originally from Rio de Janeiro Brazil, he has dedicated his life to creating art on paper, canvas and skin. Recognized in the industry with numerous national and international awards for his art, knowledge and experience, he still has the same passion as when he first started. “I am blessed and honored to be chosen to be the

Litos runs the studio alongside with his wife Julie and three other talented artists: Steven Cornicelli, Jeremiah McCabe and Franklin Lewis.
STEVEN CORNICELLI After walking into Forbidden Images in early 2012, Steven was astounded by the artistic atmosphere of the shop. “Just walking into the shop inspires you,” says Steven. “I met with Litos and Julie and they offered me a chance of a lifetime – I took it!” Born in Maryland in 1970, Steven is a creative artist who has been drawing his entire life. Jeremiah McCabe has been perfecting the technique of professional tattoo art since completing his apprenticeship in 2001. He learned to tattoo from Perry Stratton in Lapeer, Michigan and worked with him until moving to Florida in 2007. Jeremiah spent the next four years mastering the art of realism in his tattoo work. In 2011 Jeremiah felt as if there was more out there for him and decided to move again. With this move he was able to start focusing on the type of art that he loved the most – new school. To Jeremiah, newschool art really gives him the freedom to use his imagination and allows him the opportunity to push himself to become more creative. “The best thing about being a tattoo artist is the opportunity to travel all over the world,” says Jeremiah. “I really love what I do. I get to push myself each day to become better and use my imagination to help others express themselves through body art.” Jeremiah is willing to take on anything that has been placed in front of him; with this motivation he feels that each person that sits in front of him gives him the opportunity to become

a better artist. Jeremiah has been working at Forbidden Images alongside Litos, Julie, Frank, and Steve, since 2013, and continues to evolve his style even further. Along with making the move to Trinity, 2013 was the beginning of Jeremiah's tattoo travels. He's since been invited to work in top conventions in England, France, and Switzerland, and continues to plan more international explorations in the future. In 2014, Jeremiah was asked by Waterloo Tattoo Workstations to join the Waterloo Elite sponsor team. Along with Eternal Ink, Jeremiah is sponsored by some of the top products in the tattoo industry. In addition in 2014, Jeremiah won awards for Best Female Leg Sleeve and Best Overall Male at Ink Life Tour stops in Tampa and Fort Myers. Then in 2015, Jeremiah was invited to tattoo at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, CA. As part of that convention his nerd dream came true, and Jeremiah became an Officially licensed artist with Lucasfilm!
FRANKLIN LEWIS A tattoo artist at Forbidden Images since day one of his career Franklin was taught by the man himself, Litos, and strives to learn more daily. Franklin says, “My style of tattooing comes from a love for the old school ideas of tattooing – BOLD WILL HOLD! I have a strong passion for Japanese influenced art, but am open to new ideas and styles. I am always up for a challenge! Outside of tattooing, I love skateboarding and music – lots of music! I look forward to meeting you all, so don’t be a stranger!” Forbidden Images is a company that thrives off of positive energy and the staff connects with their clients on a whole different level, providing them with an embracing atmosphere and an exceptional experience. Forming long lasting relationships with all of their customers is something that Litos, Julie, Steven, Jeremiah and Franklin pride themselves on. Once they create a tattoo on someone, they like to keep the

communication flowing, facilitating open interaction with all of their customers to fully ensure complete satisfaction. “Our clients become good friends of ours,” says Litos. “When you come to us you will get one-onone attention. We ask a lot of questions so we can accurately interpret your feelings about the tattoo, as opposed to just creating an image. It’s not just the subject of the tattoo; it’s the meaning that creates the tattoo.” In addition to using the highest quality inks, all of the tattoo artist are privy to using the best quality products, as Forbidden Images remains at the forefront of leading developments and technology in regards to the tattoo industry. Litos is very adamant about continuing education and attends numerous conventions throughout the world in order to stay at the very top of his field. Litos and Julie are very active in the community and are huge supporters of local businesses. “We have a great relationship with businesses in the local community,” states Litos.
“Together we help each other grow as people.” At Forbidden Images Tattoo Art Studio, the artists are able to interpret an important part of you and through talent and creativity will give life to your deepest emotions and bring to reality a true work of art. Litos says, “We thank you all and hope you honor us with a visit to our studio and experience for yourself why people come to us. A favorite dining spot for dinner for many years, Taso Italiano has added something new to the menu and now serves lunch. Feeding people delicious food isn’t just a career choice to Taso Stassi, owner of Taso Italiano: It is his life’s work, his passion and a way to honor his own family’s history. With recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation in the Stassi family, Taso Italiano is authentic, right down to the homemade sauces that come out of the kitchen. From the décor of family heirlooms and the music to the delicious, always fresh in-

gredients, Taso Italiano is the perfect place to enjoy the healthy, delicious tastes of the Mediterranean. A mix of Italian, Greek and French cuisine with the best of American specialties, Taso Italiano is “All the Best!” The open floor plan and soft lighting add to the ambiance, and a full liquor bar stocked with top shelf liquor and a great beer and wine selection ensures favorite libations for everyone in your party. Located on Little Road in New Port Richey, Taso Italiano is a restaurant where diners are warmly welcomed. Family photos give diners a glimpse of young Taso and his father Euripides Stassi. Taso’s inspiration comes from his own experience in helping his father open L’Epicure, a fine dining restaurant on Long Island that served the wealthiest patrons in New York. Some of Taso’s favorite memories of L’Epicure were the black tie events that catered to big Italian families, Greek nights and learning to cook from French chefs. Taso took the advice he learned from these chefs and he applies it to every aspect of his restaurant today – “You learn it and

Students at Longleaf Elementary Actively Apply their Learning with Majors By Dara Tucker It’s common to hear talk about accountability and testing surrounding public schools. What you may not hear about quite as frequently, is the excitement from students as they apply their learning in a meaningful way. Longleaf Elementary School’s (LLES) Principal Jennifer Heptig and Assistant Principal Debra Wichmanowski, along with the school’s teachers, find innovative ways to educate the whole child, and create authentic learning experiences for students at the school. After visiting a school of the arts in Polk County, Longleaf Elementary’s enrichment team and administrators were excited to model a Mini Major in our county. Mini Majors is an exploratory arts wheel that started with fourth and fifth graders last school year. This year, every seven weeks, fourth grade students rotate through an introduction to an area of
34
the fine or performance arts. These rotations include dance, photography, green screen, stop animation, and improv. For the first time this year, fifth graders were able to choose their top three areas of interest from Mini Majors, and focus on two of them indepth, called Majors. Each semester the fifth grade students work in one of their top three areas of interest. Majors not only provide students an opportunity to apply their skills in a long term project, but it also helps students as they prepare to transition to middle school. Majors allow students to interact with different peers than their usual classmates, all of who have the same interest as them. In each Mini Major and Major, students work with fellow students for a common goal. Students learn to be leaders, compromise and work to meet deadlines. The school enrichment teachers, who each work with a Major and Mini

LLES students received training on iBooks Author at the Apple Store Major, communicate frequently with regular education teachers to see how they can integrate the Florida Standards. This integration often allows students to better comprehend new skills as they see how these skills apply to the arts. Conversely, students can use skills they learn in Mini Majors and Majors in their classroom as a creative medium to demonstrate their learning.

Be the Change – Students at LLES Create A Digital Magazine At the heart of the Majors at Longleaf Elementary is a digital magazine. The digital magazine is a venue for students in the other Majors, and students throughout the school, to show how they are making a positive impact in the community. The title of the digital magazine is Be the Change, and it includes feature articles, editorials, creative writing, poetry, and visual

arts such as photography, illustrations and cartooning. The digital magazine is an authentic application of students using primary sources in an informational writing. Students don’t see editing as a dreaded process made by the teacher with a red pen, but instead a valuable set of additional eyes that can help improve their writing before they go “to press.” Janene Redfield, the magazine’s editor says, “Our digital magazine offers what we need to encourage the
children in our lives to read and to use writing and art to interpret the positive contributions of individuals and groups who are problem finders and solution innovators, while additionally expanding their technological skill and knowledge. Its mission is to encourage our student body to make a difference, make a change and better the dialogue between those who lead with ‘I can’t’ to ‘let us show you examples of people who not only CAN, but did!’”
Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
Kim Thomas, an editor at Neighborhood News and Lifestyles, visited Longleaf Elementary’s digital magazine as a guest speaker. Students learned firsthand that to prepare for an interview, one should do research in advance, and that getting the answers to the basic questions of who, what, when, where, and why are essential to creating an informative article. Students in the digital magazine Major went on a field trip to the Apple Store™ in the International Mall to get trained on iBooks and iAuthor. The knowledge students learned from their training helped them to put together the layout for the digital magazine, and allowed them to learn from an expert in the field. Students understand what an exciting opportunity it is to see how what they’re learning in elementary school will be used later in their life. Student writer Chloe Hubbartt says, “We researched that the Monarch butterfly population has been dropping due to the use of pesticides. We wanted to know if we could create a butterfly garden behind the school gates, since milkweed is what the caterpillars eat. I talked to Ms.

Heptig to ask if we could plant milkweed, but we weren’t sure if the land we wanted to use was owned by Swiftmud or us. While we were in our meeting with Ms. Heptig, she contacted someone to see if we can use the land. We hope to help the butterflies. We want to play a part in giving the butterflies a home.” Through Majors and Mini Majors at Longleaf Elementary School, students are using their talents and applying their knowledge in a positive, creative outlet. Fourth and fifth graders feel empowered by having their voices heard and by setting examples of “Being the Change” in their community. Longleaf Elementary School is located at 3252 Town Avenue in the beautiful Longleaf subdivision. Longleaf Elementary is under the leadership of Principal Jennifer Heptig and Assistant Principal Debra Wichmanowski. “Church” Continued from page 1 – giving area residents more worship options. Spirit of Grace Lutheran was formed 7 years ago when five area ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) congregations consolidated into one congregation with two location. The congregation’s purpose is: “As Christ’s people in motion, we connect, grow and serve.” Each cycle of growth and renewal, has the same goal, to unite God and God’s people. Rev. Dr. Rita Gardner Tweed, LMHC, who has been the Transition Lead Pastor these past two years, says that what sets Spirit of Grace apart is inviting people to see their lives in ways that God sees them, which is with love, grace, forgiveness, mercy and compassion. Together with Pastor Dave Kruger, who specializes in Senior Ministries and Spiritual Care, the leaders, staff and congregation that make up Spirit of Grace are a welcoming group of people who follow and love Jesus. Pastor Rita, who has been an Ordained Minister for 28 years, has been very involved with Lutheran churches

in Florida, having previously served as Assistant to the Bishop and the Director of Evangelical Mission in Florida for the ELCA. She has a heart for helping people connect to Jesus and to one another. Pastor Rita is known for her positive attitude, her warm character and her sense of humor. Fun fact – Pastor Rita is married to another local Lutheran Pastor, Rev. Dr. David Gardner Tweed, LMHC, who is the pastor at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Palm Harbor. The pair met in Seminary! When it comes to Spirit of Grace, she says, “We try to keep things real and relevant as we go through this period of renewal.” She adds, “It is exciting to see God’s people grow, and I am seeing people becoming spiritually alive, and that’s because we are a grace-centered church.” Marjorie Fuhst French attends Spirit of Grace and says, “It is a terrific church! The people are friendly, the Pastor (Pr. Rita Gardner Tweed) is compassionate and interesting and downright funny! The treats are delish and the music is super! We are the GRACE PLACE! We are all here by God’s Good Grace to hear His word and sing His praise.”

Every Easter, Spirit of Grace provides an inspiring way to celebrate Easter with a Contemporary Sunrise Beach Worship at Gulf Harbors Beach Spirit of Grace offers a variety of styles and service times to suit almost any taste, from a contemporary service that features their Praise Band to a more traditional service. Pastor Rita says, “We offer a variety of styles of worship in which one can draw closer to God.” Spirit of Grace is at the Heart of Our Community One of the many goals that Pastor Rita and the leaders have for Spirit of Grace is to help people connect by living up to its name, and by truly living

and welcoming others in a spirit of grace that welcomes all and serves others. When we are dealing with the ups and downs of life, Pastor Rita invites us to remember the acronym for L.I.F.E., which is “Living in Faith Everyday.” As a result, Spirit of Grace is always doing something fun and exciting in our area to help people to do just that. For example, in October they held a pet blessing and vendor fair where locals brought their furry family members out to be blessed. The Pasco County Mounted Posse horses even came, received a blessing and the

All year, Spirit of Grace offers outreach ministry through a food pantry, a clothing pantry, quilting groups and partners with Metropolitan Ministries. There are women’s groups, bible studies, fun activities, Sr. field trips, Sr. High Youth attended the ELCA National Youth Gathering in Detroit, and best of all, a wonderful group of friends to experience them
with. Spirit of Grace also has a fantastic music ministry that includes different styles of singing opportunities and even dancing! Their youth group, which does something different each week of the month, has the opportunity to help others while having fun and making friends. There’s more than grace at Spirit of Grace, there’s a spirit of community and fun as well. This month, Spirit of Grace is hosting a wide variety of activities, Christmas Program and events at both of their campuses to celebrate the true reason for the Christmas season. For example, they will be participating in the New Port Richey Christmas Parade on December 12th, then later in the month the Youth Group will be caroling on Monday, December 21st!

entertainment provided by members of the local band Hot Mess, featuring Guardian ad Litem Community Outreach Coordinator, Suzie Cichon. During the afternoon, the adults and children took part in the beanbag toss, the water balloon toss and an egg and spoon relay. The Guardian ad Litem staff made all the desserts in an extra effort to thank their volunteers for all the hard work they have done to help Pasco’s abused and neglected children over the past year. During the course of the afternoon, there were awards presented to various volunteers for excellence in advocating for our children. Ten volunteers were distinguished by being promoted to Master Guardian ad Litem, a prestigious recognition award for volunteers exemplifying ex-
cellence over-and-above. In addition, many other volunteers were recognized for their work in improving the lives of children in the foster care system. The Guardian ad Litem Program would like to thank Lowes, Home Depot & Wendy’s for generously donating prizes to acknowledge the work of our volunteers in Pasco County. The Guardian ad Litem program is actively seeking more volunteers to be advocates for Pasco County’s most vulnerable children in the foster care system. If you are interested in learning more about becoming a volunteer advocate, please contact the Community Outreach Coordinator, Suzanne Cichon, by email at suzanne.cichon@gal.fl.gov, or by phone on (727) 834-3493.
