New Year, Slimmer You For many people, losing weight is at the top of their bucket list. For others, it is the only way to become, and feel healthy again. Many of us have tried yo-yo diets, or buy the expensive celebrity promoted trends, that pop up in social media and TV and radio commercial hype. The failed weight loss remains, and people continue to be discouraged. However, Medical Weight Loss, LLC at (813) 269-SLIM has been proving since 2007 that weight loss, whether 10 pounds

or 120 pounds, can be done safely, affordably and successfully! Many different diseases, such as diabetes, auto-immune and thyroid problems and heart disease, are linked to being overweight. Knee and hip problems are also factors in this area. We know about these things. Weight loss is not just a matter of looking good, but, is a medical program of improving your life and reducing your health risks. Feeling better, is also a great by-product of slimming down. Start The New Year Off Strong Every new year symbolically represents an opportunity for a new beginning—a chance to make changes or improvements from the previous year. A new year feels fresh, invigorating and like we’re being given a new chance to right wrongs, course correct, be more thankful, grow, and keep fighting to fulfill our dreams and goals. Every new year is also filled with new added pressure, anxiety, and high expectations to improve from one year to the next. We’re creatures of habit, and even if we don’t want to recognize it, we follow this pattern of setting goals for each new year that starts. And that’s a good thing depending on how you approach it. I had big dreams for 2020; none of them came true. In January, all my dreams and plans, not just for the rest of the year but for the rest of my life, seemed to have gone down the drain. Add the global pandemic, serious financial issues, losing thirteen relatives and close friends, and getting ill again from my two auto-immune conditions. I felt broken. I found myself all alone at home, crying myself to sleep every night for months. I thought I would raise a big family in that “forever home,” and I let depression and anxiety get the best of me at times. I struggled to balance work with my personal life, and I still do at times, not going to lie. But I tried my very best to count my blessings and reminded myself daily of all the positive things in my life, and that made all the difference. I bet you all had goals and plans for 2020 too. We all did the best we could under the circumstances, and this was a tough year to give ourselves some grace around our goals and dreams. I have had to remind myself regularly that I am just a human being, experiencing really tough human experiences, which are outside of my control. We may have the same plans for 2021 as we had for 2020, and that’s not bad at all. Life rarely goes according to plan, and we cannot let ourselves get discouraged or feel hopeless because things didn’t go exactly as we were expecting them to. Life is beautiful, but life is hard. There are lots of twists and turns and unexpected events. We need to act like arrows in 2021. Even

though we get pulled back, it’s only to gain impulse and be released forward with more strength and better aim. Whenever you feel you’re stuck in a tough situation and moving backward, don’t sweat it; take advantage of the impulse that will propel you ahead. Maybe you gained some “covid weight” this year, you fell behind in paying off your credit card debt, or you didn’t make enough progress on some work projects you planned. You’re going to be okay. No matter where you are now, start there. While beginning a new year will not magically make things easier or better; there are a few exercises you can do to transition into the new year with a more positive mindset. Try this: Write down everything you want to release or let go about 2020. What went wrong, what hurts you, what disappointed you... don’t let anyone read your answers. Once you’ve completed the list, either crumble it up, cut it all up, or throw it away in a fire. This exercise aims to release these tragic events, situations, and challenges to make room for a more positive 2021 start. Then set a timer for 15 minutes and write down everything positive that happened in 2020. Don’t edit your thinking; brainstorm. A few of my own examples are; most of my family and friends are healthy and well. I kept a somewhat stable job. I was able to lose over twenty pounds. I was able to meet a lot of wonderful people. Now, answer the following questions as honestly as possible; What do I want to stop doing in 2021? What do I want to start doing in 2021? And last but not least, what would make 2021 a more successful year? These exercises are a great way to release any challenges and negative energy in your life and at work, and it also helps you regroup and rethink your goals for the new year. Remember, neither you nor I can control all the events in our lives. We can only control how we react and how we respond. No matter what 2021 brings, remember to release the negative and focus on the positive. Just never, ever lose faith or hope. Until next time,

JANUARY 2021 7

Gasparilla Postponed To April Amidst COVID19 Pandemic Carla M. Dubis Tedeschi. One of the biggest and most iconic annual events in the Tampa Bay Area is officially being pushed back a few months in 2021. Tampa pirates and booty chasers will have to wait a couple of months for the awaited Gasparilla celebrations. Imagine hundreds of thousands of people flocking to downtown Tampa in the middle of a global pandemic that’s already taken the lives of over a million and a half people worldwide… It doesn’t seem like such a smart idea. Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla and EventFest have decided to postpone the awaited Pirate Invasion and Gasparilla Parade out of an abundance of caution given the pandemic. Gasparilla festivities usually take place in January every year. In 2021, the infamous pirate invasion and parade were scheduled for January 30, 2021, but COVID19 has different plans for these events attracting large crowds. Event organizers have been working closely with healthcare providers and city leaders and came to the unanimous decision that postponing the event was the best option for the Tampa Bay community, given the increasingly rising numbers of COVID-19 cases in the city. “We always had a plan B,” said Peter Lackman, Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla’s Captain. “We want to have a great event that people are comfortable coming out to and are out there to have a good time, and the size of the crowd won’t matter to them.” In a recent statement, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor called Ye Mystic Krewe

8 JANUARY 2021

and EventFest “Incredible partners.” Mayor Castor appreciates their commitment to keeping the Tampa Bay community safe. “Gasparilla is a cherished tradition—when we come together, we want to ensure we do it the right way,” Castor added. “Safety is our most important responsibility. In the public interest of restricting events that bring large numbers of people to our community, we have made the difficult decision to postpone. We look forward to celebrating with our mateys safely and responsibly this April 2021,” Lackman added in his recent news release. No doubt postponing this event will affect not just the Gasparilla Krewes and thousands of visitors but also many local businesses that are already hurting. We encourage Gasparilla fans to show their support for those unique local businesses by purchasing Gasparilla t-shirts, costumes, colorful beads, memorabilia, and other items, and be ready to celebrate when April 2021 rolls around.

Tampa Bay can expect the Children’s Gasparilla event presented by Chick-Fil-A Tampa Bay on Saturday, April 10, 2021, and the Seminole Hard Rock Gasparilla Pirate Fest on Saturday, April 17, 2021. The closing event, Ye Mystic Krewe go Gasparilla’s Outbound Voyage, will take place on Friday, May 14, 2021. Tickets for the Gasparilla Pirate Fest and Children’s

Gasparilla are on sale at GasparillaTreasures.com. Event tickets purchased for the original dates will be honored for the newly scheduled parades in April 2021. Ticket holders are not required to take any further action. For inquiries and other questions regarding ticket availability or refund issues, please contact office@eventfest.com.

“New Year, New You” - Story Continued from page 1

Dr. Gail Jachimek Medical Weight Loss, LLC (269- SLIM) is headed by Dr. Gail Jachimek. The main clinic is located at 5111 Ehrlich Road. Their other weight loss clinics are in Wesley Chapel, FL., Lake Geneva and Waukesha, Wisconsin. Their prices have not increased since they began the medical weight loss practice. Dr. Jachimek and her husband are both Chiropractic physicians, and have those clinics in Carrollwood and Spring Hill. So, they also treat patients that are in pain from accident injuries, or just have unwanted neck or back pain! Their medical weight loss program combines pharmaceutical appetite suppressant medication, fat burning injections and pills, and a clinically proven diet with medical doctor and nursing support and counseling to help their patients reach their “target” weight goals.

12 JANUARY 2021

This physician supervised program helps those who have before tried and failed to lose unwanted pounds. Dr. Gail says, “We opened the clinic because I was entering menopause and gaining weight. When I asked my primary physician, as well as my doctor friends, for help, I got extremely rude responses. I was told to “push away from the table”. Dr. Gail does not want her patients to go through the same degrading experience. Determined to learn more, Dr. Jachimek joined the ASBP (American Society of Bariatric Physicians) and went to their symposiums for further education and tools. She discovered that there are many contributing factors to weight gain - not just your diet. Some of the major contributing factors included hormonal imbalances, thyroid issues, environmental toxins, autoimmune disease, type 2 diabetes, etc. It was then that she opened the main clinic in Tampa to help people dealing with the same frustrating weight gain frustration she had faced. They have since opened 3 more clinics in Florida and Wisconsin to help people with these problems. “At Medical Weight Loss, LLC, we have medical doctors, as well as nurse practitioners, that have been treating our patients successfully for years, so that the root cause of these problems can be addressed. Our registered

nurses and supportive staff are there for you to help you every step of the way.” Medical weight loss plans are not new, and many are similar, but other programs usually involve significant upcharges and hidden fees. Dr. Jachimek’s 269-SLIM program is different. Her program is focused on the long-term results, meaning, not only will the process safely take off your weight during the active phase of the program, but also prevent the pounds from returning during the “maintenance phase”...(which is free)! This is no diet trend – This is looking at your medical history, evaluating your EKG, bloodwork and lifestyle. Then, their doctors propose a plan for you, and prescribe appropriate pharmaceutical appetite suppressant medication, fat burning injections, vitamin therapy and fat burning supplements. “The program is simple, inexpensive and easy to follow. We give you a large list of foods to buy/ choose from,” says Dr. Jachimek. “The program is easy, because it is food bought in the grocery store, (no special foods to order) just regular meats, fruits and vegetables on our list. This factor also makes it more affordable, because you don’t have to buy special foods, or cook separate dinners if you have a family.”

Under the supervision of their medical doctors, patients can drop 20 to 30 pounds in the first month. Dr. Jachimek said that it is common to see 5-10 pounds dropped in the first week. “We have had patients that have lost 17 pounds in their first week, as well as patients that have lost over a hundred pounds on our program”, says Dr. Jachimek. Accountability is also a major part of the program. Keeping the patients safe and on track, their nurses evaluate, and treat patients weekly to provide support and give suggestions on how to reach and maintain their target weight. Dr. Jachimek stresses that there are no price surprises at Medical Weight Loss, 269-SLIM. The initial visit is $195 and weekly visits are just $55. That’s it! This is what you have been waiting for! An inexpensive, easy and successful way to lose the unwanted pounds that have made you miserable for years. As their slogans say, “With 269- SLIM (MEDICALWEIGHTLOSSLLC.COM) -Weigh less for WAY less”…or “When you’re done fooling around, call us!”. Medical Weight Loss LLC is located at 5111 Ehrlich Road, Suite 128 in Tampa, 33624. For more information or to make an appointment, call (813) 269-SLIM (7546). SAT AND ACT IMPROVEMENT: WITH A TOP TUTOR IN THE U.S. success as “When you finish the exam, walk out of the room, and look back on all we have done … he simply wants you to say to yourself, ‘I have done the very best with the time and priorities that I had.’”; taking a three-part “Mental Break” when concentration starts to fade; and seeing an exam as their opportunity to show just how well they can do - which greatly reduces mental pressure so students can stay in their “high performance zones”.

Spring Test Dates 2021: SAT on March 13, May 8, and June 5; and ACT on Feb 6, April 17, and June 12 Greater Tampa Bay enjoys a unique resource in helping students and families have their best possible futures, including students doing their best on the SAT and ACT Exams so important for College Entrance and Bright Futures Scholarships. The former Dean of a Graduate School of Business and Full Professor, Dr. Wayne Adams has created an exceptional and unique package that builds on his extensive experience including degrees and advanced studies at Harvard, Yale, Vanderbilt, Columbia International, and Luther Rice. A major reason for his outstanding results are the special techniques and learning skills developed over many

years. These include teaching students how to speed-read at 1,000+ words per minute; multiple memory aids to triple a student’s speed of learning and remembering vocabulary; reverse engineering that doubles “learning and retention speeds”; many additional math techniques such as “Quick Solve” to improve speed, reduce errors, and handle the “ultra-hard” questions; “bottom up” reading for key ideas and concepts; specialized reading strategies found in no reference books or other courses; and structured essay writing following his customized guideS. HIS STUDENTS NORMALLY IMPROVE 200-350 POINTS ON THE SAT TOTAL SUPERSCORE, AND 4 – 7 POINTS ON THE ACT COMPOSITE He believes that half of a student scoring well is mental. WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT HIS CLASSES STUDENTS “This is not the average, boring class. I will learn.” “I really liked the involvement in the sessions, rather than just teaching from a book.” “Learning the structure of the Essay

was great.” “When I started, I took a 25 question vocabulary test right away and got 5 out of 25 correct. After his intensive vocab “memory hooks” approach, I retook the test and got 23 correct. Wow! ” “I have never had a teacher who has so many creative and effective ways to help me learn. And I like the style of the classes, which are like college seminars taught by a full professor. ” “The time goes by so fast.” “We work. We learn. It’s worth it.”

PARENTS “You helped our daughter qualify as a National Merit Finalist and helped our family in college planning. Now she is a freshman at a “Top 25” school with a summer studying at Cambridge U in England. Thank you so much.” “When our son took your class as a ninth grader, his baseline scores on the SAT were around 700. When he took the exam, he scored 1100 and qualified for the Duke TIP Program. This score was higher than the average score for a senior.

Now he is a National Merit Finalist.” “Our daughter had scored a 14 on the ACT and needed an 18 to satisfy FCAT and graduate with her class. Thanks to you, she scored a 20 and graduated!” “Our daughter had an excellent GPA and high standing in her IB Program, but her SAT scores were around 1150. After your class, she scored over 1400. Thank you.” “We are so excited because our daughter just learned she was accepted for Early Admission to Princeton, and will be going in the fall. Your major increases in her ACT and SAT scores were a major reason.” If You Would Like To Talk More About Your Student … Please contact Dr. Adams at 727-253-0639 or send him an email at wwa0811@mykolab.com. “Computer Guy”

- continued from page 1 devices act quirky or slow down; they can even fall victim to cyber criminals. When this occurs, we need someone we trust to step in and bail us out. “It’s stressful when our devices stop working. We need them for everything; from showing up to work-from-home, grocery shopping, doctor visits, and even our kids’ schooling,” said Bob Dalles, of Bob The Computer Guy & Associates, Inc. “We make our clients’ repair experience swift and painless. People share how they’ve been having problems with their computer; once we have an opportunity to analyze, diagnose, and resolve the issue, they tell us they never realized their computer could run so well.” Bob The Computer Guy & Associates, Inc. is a computer IT and cyber security company that provides onsite computer repairs, cyber security counseling, and more! service everyone; whether it’s your residence or business. Since COVID-19, Bob quickly responded. He changed company policy to better keep his clients and staff safer throughout the pandemic. Most appointments now take place via remote session or drop off service. Surprisingly, Bob found that over 90 percent of repair calls could be performed remotely. “A misconception folks have is they think we are a computer store,” said Bob. “We’re not a retail store. We are a service company. MY GOAL IS NOT to sell you merchandise. My professionally certified and experienced technicians and analysts actively work with you to develop a solution that is customized to your technology needs and budget. Should you need to buy something, my staff can make recommendations and usually know where the best deals can be found.” “It’s not uncommon for new clients to tell us they did

not know companies like ours existed,” said Bob. “And they’re so glad they found us.” Bob was captivated by computer technology in the late 1970s. In 1995 he launched his own computer business. In 2008 he accepted a position as the instructor for Computer and Information Technology with a Florida technical college. Bob enjoys sharing his knowledge with others who possess

his passion and enthusiasm for technology. His love for technology inspired him to start writing his published column “Tech Talk,” where he shares decades of IT experience while also informing his readers how to keep their devices running well and safe. “Tech Talk is very popular. A lot of clients tell me that they have followed the column from its first publication,” said Nikki,

Client Communications Director. “Some of clients even clip the columns and stick them on their refrigerators or file cabinets.” This past year Bob’s Tech Talk has had a larger focus on cyber security. When the COVID-19 pandemic first started Bob noticed that he was getting more calls from people believing that they might have been scammed; or wondering if they inadvertently done

something that compromised the security of their device. “In early 2019 we launched a Cyber Security Division,” said Bob. “It has been a Godsend for our clients’ peace of mind. We’re finding that more and more people are being proactive and taking responsibility to secure their digital world. I am extremely proud of the relief we’ve been able to provide to clients

during these difficult times. We now make available a vital service for the individual and small business that has only been in the reach of government agencies and large corporations.” Cyber crimes are on the rise even more now that everyone has turned to their technology. The criminals behind these scam e-mails, phone calls, and text messages will not hold back when it comes to exploiting any technology weaknesses you have overlooked. Bob and his cyber security team want to ensure that you do not fall prey to cyber criminals. Bob and his staff will help you implement the proper tools and will instruct you on “best practices” when navigating the internet and your digital world. Bob’s quest is to increase your online safety awareness to lessen your chance of becoming yet another cyber crime statistic. “You want to be sure you’re wearing your seatbelt before the car crash,” Bob warned. “Your data, personal information and internet identity is like gold in the digital world. You need to guard it before something happens to put it in jeopardy.” Here’s what some clients say: “I should have called you a month ago. Christian has helped me twice now. He’s nice to work with, he’s got so much knowledge, I just can’t say enough about how happy I am that I found your company.” – Angie, Oldsmar
