Congratulations to Amanda Moore, Recipient of Trinity Family Physicians’ Tampa Bay Making A Difference Award By Kim Thomas Writing about the people who receive Trinity Family Physicians’ Tampa Bay Making A Difference Award always is inspiring, but this latest recipient truly humbled me and I believe Dr. Amir Shirmohammad (Dr. Shirmo) and Dr. Stephanie Eldridge at Trinity Family Physicians feel the same way. Fourteen-year-old Amanda Moore is an A student at Gulf High School, a volleyball player on her school’s team, a junior league bowler, and a philanthropist with a heart that will bowl you over! Selling candy at the local bowling alley, Amanda has raised more than $10,000 over the past four years, and every cent goes to helping families in need through her partnership with Pasco Kids First. This young lady is so impressive in her quest to help others that we hope reading her story will inspire you to make the effort to help Amanda help Pasco Kids First, and to give – even if it is just a little, because so many people have so little. So how does an ordinary child do something extraordinary? One box of candy at a time, that’s how. Amanda and her mom Amy love to bowl and both are on leagues, so Lane Glo on Old County Road 54 in New Port Richey is kind of a second home for them. Four years ago, young Amanda started selling candy bars for $1 each at Lane Glo to raise money for a tournament. Soon she’d sold enough boxes of candy (at a profit of $12 per box) to cover her costs. Amanda’s mom Amy recalls, “When we showed up without a box of candy, people wanted to know where the candy was. I said, you mean if we show up here with more

candy, you’re going to keep buying it?” Enough people said yes and the Lane Glo managers liked that it was for a good cause, so Amy decided to let Amanda keep selling candy, but with their needs met, this single mom took the opportunity to help her daughter grow in ways that a ruler can’t measure. Amy shares, “I said why don’t you use the money you make to help people? I let her know how many families we could help.” Amanda was thrilled, so Amy started searching and was referred to Becky Bennett, MHA at Pasco Kids First Children’s Advocacy Center. This is a great fit because Becky Bennett has dedicated her career and life to helping families and children in Pasco County. It was Becky who sent a press release about Amanda’s fundraising to Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles, and knowing of the Trinity Family Physicians’ Tampa Bay Making A Difference Award, I nominated Amanda. Since then I’ve been in contact with Becky, who says of Amanda, “She is amazing! And there is so much more... just wait until you hear all of the things she does in the community not only just for us. And she is an A student and champion bowler!”

Lunch with Santa. Once again, this past Christmas she was able to brings gifts to three families in Pasco Kids First Healthy Families Program. One story after another, Amanda and her mom Amy, help to bring joy to people, and not just children. Amy shares, “Amanda says, ‘Everyone deserves a Christmas,’ so we help the whole family.” Looking through a stack of photos at the many gifts through the years shows a multitude of toys, as well as tool sets, small appliances, household necessities, and much more. Amy recalls, “The first young mother they asked us to help only asked for a mop and a broom –just basic necessities - and then we found out that she didn’t have a bed and the baby didn’t have a crib. We started telling people and were able to get them a bed and crib, too.” “A lot of kids my age don’t know what other people go through,” says Amanda, who was once like that too. “The first year, I didn’t know what those families were like.”

Dr. Shirmo and Amanda Another time, the call came from a caseworker working with a family in desperate need of a car seat. “We just hopped in the car and went to Walmart and were able to buy it for them.”

“Put Your Heart Into It” Just by selling candy at the bowling alley, Amanda began sponsoring families through Pasco Kids First in 2013 and has raised more than $10,000 to help families in need. Amanda has donated coats to patients at Good Samaritan Clinic and continues to volunteer weekly at James Malowe Elementary School. She has donated to Pasco Kids First’s

Amy (left) and Amanda (center) pose with one of the families they donated gifts to in December 2016 Dr. Shirmo wanted to know what Trinity Family Physicians could do to help, “What can we do to help you? What do you want, Amanda?” Her candid reply, “I don’t want people to just give me money, I want people to put their heart into it.” Donations Accepted at Trinity Family Physicians Dr. Shirmo and Dr. Eldridge are putting their hearts into it and Trinity Family Physicians’ office, located at 1817 Cypress Drive, Suite 101 in

If you’d like to donate money for candy, please put it in a sealed envelope and leave at front desk. Also accepted are checks made out to Pasco Kids First (a non-profit so donations are tax deductible), which can be left with the front desk at Trinity Family Physicians. services to children who are not reimbursed by our state funders.” Donations also can be made online at www.PascoKidsFirst.org.

NEEDED ITEMS Diapers, Children’s Underwear and Baby Supplies: In cases of sexual abuse, sometimes the children’s undergarments need to be taken for evidence or destroyed. Bus Passes: Used for families and teens to come to the Children’s Advocacy Center for trauma therapy appointments. Gift Cards and Journals for teens receiving counseling: Many times teens are overlooked when it comes to their personal needs and during the holidays. Child Safety Items (outlet plugs, cabinet locks, smoke detectors, etc.): Becky says, “We are actually actively looking for a donation (or funding to purchase) at least 50 door alarms for a campaign we are going to do with the Sheriff’s Office in April due to several child drowning deaths last year. Two mothers were arrested after their children died in ponds.” Checks: “Checks are always appreciated to assist us in purchasing the above when there is a need and to provide the needed therapy

Coach Prats shared, “Our senior Nicole Autrique shot the low round of the day with a score of 67, which was 5 under par.” Coach Tiffany Prats has been leading the team since July 2016. At one time, USF Women’s Golf was one of the top teams in the country and I look forward to getting us back to that place.” Assistant Coach Kelli Pry was a USF Bull, playing golf on the USF Women’s Team. “During my senior year in 2012, we were in the Big East Conference and beat Notre Dame by one shot to win the tournament.” That feeling – that elation of being on top – is what these coaches are aiming for.

“tre | MEDSPA” Continued from page 1 affected their skin and how they look. Many patients were seeking advice as to what type of skincare products or latest procedures were available for anti-aging. Previously owning her own medical spa in New Orleans before moving to Tampa a few years ago, in addition to having over 15 years of experience as an M.D., Dr. Pham has years of experience running a medical spa and is happy to once again offer these services, now to the Westchase community. Coming from a medical background, she brings a much more comprehensive approach to skin care, incorporating a medical outlook that has proven to be very beneficial in the success of the procedures performed. “I have a great interest in aesthetics,” says Dr. Pham. “I enjoy talking to patients about their skin health, focusing on a comprehensive medical approach to guide me in advising what procedures or skin regimens are safe or most effective for my patients. The goal is to work with my patients to help them feel more youthful and look younger. I really focus on enhancing your own natural features and not

making you look like someone else; instead, a more youthful and refreshed version of you.” A full service medical spa, the knowledgeable and friendly staff at Tre MedSpa will help you reach your beauty goals using the most advanced noninvasive skin corrective technology and professional grade skin care products available. Whether you want to freshen up your look with a revitalizing facial, chemical peel, or microdermabrasion, improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with Botox or Dysport, add volume to your face with a dermal filler such as Restylane or Juvederm, or get rid of unwanted hair with their laser hair removal treatment, Tre MedSpa will help you enjoy enhanced beauty at any age. Dr. Pham is very meticulous about every procedure that is performed; she spends ample time with each patient, performing a oneon-one skin/facial evaluation. She takes time to explain exactly what and why she is recommending a particular treatment or how it is performed. She makes detailed markings and measurements of areas that she will be injecting. She also offers and uses an AccuVein, which is a handheld scanner that detects the superficial blood vessels beneath your skin. Dr. Pham

can mark off those areas, making it easier for her to avoid those vessels visible to her when performing injections, thus significantly reducing your risk of bruising. Dr. Pham is one of a few aesthetic physicians in Tampa who are trained and offer the “Microcannula Technique" for injection of dermal fillers. Not all physicians are trained in this revolutionary injection technique, which offers a LESS invasive, LESS 'needle stick' approach to dermal fillers. This technique uses a blunttipped microcannula, to distribute the dermal filler product in the appropriate depth and layer of your skin to make the needed enhancements without the multiple needle sticks/injections that the traditional technique would require; Thus, providing excellent, beautiful results, with much LESS bruising/swelling, and much LESS downtime. This is a significantly safer injection technique, which is one of the top reasons Dr. Pham prefers the use of microcannulas. Her patients' safety and comfort as well as better outcomes is a top priority for her. Dr. Pham also has been introducing other distinct anti-aging skin treatments to her patients that many may not be aware of.

IPL ( Intense Pulsed Light) Photo rejuvenation, is an amazing noninvasive procedure that targets and reduces the uneven tone and dark pigmentation of sunspots/freckles/discoloration as well as reducing redness/blotches that patients often have with conditions such as rosacea or prominent capillaries/blood vessels to their face or body. Patients will be so excited to see majority of their sunspots/freckles and discoloration improve with this procedure. There is a new revolutionary nonsurgical approach to getting rid of the 'double chin' that many of us are bothered by, through the use of Kybella injections-the only FDAapproved injectable for adults that destroys fat cells under the chin. At each treatment, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin, and the injection process takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The exact number of injections will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile. The best part, results are permanent! Dr. Pham is excited to be able to offer Kybella here at Tre MedSpa. Another well-sought after procedure is the Collagen-Induction Therapy (often referred to as

Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles

microneedling). This procedure uses a medical grade device that is gently passed over your skin to produce tiny fine micro perforations in the skin, which help stimulate collagen production. The procedure enhances the absorption of skin products that are often applied immediately during/after the treatment to obtain the best benefits for skin renewal. It can also be combined with the application of PRP (platelet-riched plasma), which contains countless growth factors and nutrients that stimulate skin repair and rejuvenation to a more advanced degree. This procedure has been nicknamed the "Vampire Facial" and very popular among celebrities. Dr. Pham is happy to offer this new cutting edge technology to her clients. It is a minimally invasive, safe and effective treatment that can help to reduce the appearance of surgical scars and stretch marks, pigmentation and discoloration, acne scarring, as well as burns and other skin damage. It leaves your skin feeling smoother and more beautiful.” With all the different clinics and

Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles

med spas out there, it is so critical that you do your research when choosing where to go to have your procedure done and who is overseeing or performing those procedures, as different places follow different guidelines and rules and use different devices and modules - some of which are not as effective as others. Having over 15 years of medical experience, Dr. Pham provides not only the aesthetic advise that patients are looking for, such as what is the latest skincare treatment or skincare product to use, but she also is able to provide a medical approach to your skin consultation, evaluating abnormal skin conditions or lesions to make sure there is not an underlying medical concern that needs to be addressed. You may not necessarily have that additional overview or medical evaluation at other typical spas. Dr. Pham says, “Coming from a medical background, I have done thorough research into all the devices and procedures that we offer, and have been very particular in choosing those that I truly feel are both safe and effective for my patients. my treatments are based upon medical science; we offer you medical grade treatment using products that I really do feel have the science to back them up. The safety of my clients is a top priority, and we follow very strict protocols.” Tre MedSpa offers a variety of different pharmaceutical grade skin care products and lines and Dr. Pham and her staff are very good at recommending the proper products to best suit the needs of each individual client. “I am very selective in the products we offer,” says Dr. Pham. “I do a thorough review and only pick the ones that I feel have good evidence behind them. Every skin tone is different and I look at what is working for you and mix and match different products depending on what your skin care goal is.” A testament to the type of doctor that she is, Vitals, the Internet's largest source for doctor reviews, recently announced that Dr. Pham has been named a Patients' Choice Award FiveYear Honoree. This award acknowledges the five consecutive years that she has won a Vitals Patients' Choice Award - a distinction that places her in an elite group of the top 1% of U.S. doctors. Sydney Has a Sister Scholarship Foundation Giving recognition to children whose siblings suffer from Autism is the main goal of the Sydney Has a Sister Scholarship Foundation. The cost of a higher education is expensive and can be a burden to many families. Sydney Has a Sister recognizes the sacrifices students have to make for the benefit of their sibling with autism. All proceeds collected are awarded to college bound students who have supported their family and sibling(s) impacted by this condition. Some of the funds are also allocated for other good causes, like purchasing school supplies and holiday gifts for people impacted with autism. The non-profit organization, created by Ernie and Becky Black of Land O’ Lakes, started in 2013 when Becky, a career specialist at Sunlake High in Land O’ Lakes, went looking for scholarship money for her eldest daughter, Sydney. The Blacks have two lovely daughters, Sydney and Regan. Regan is autistic, and the sacrifices Sydney has made and the tribulations she has had to overcome, inspired her parents to form the Sydney Has a Sister

scholarship program. While researching scholarship opportunities, Becky discovered there were no options for kids like her daughter Sydney, a spunky, sweet, caring and extremely smart teen who had long embraced the role of sister, caregiver and best friend to Regan. So almost 5 years ago, in 2013, the Blacks created one. In the first two years of the foundation, the family raised an unbelievable amount of almost $45,000! After recruiting many volunteers to assist the several fund raising efforts and activities, the Blacks were able to award six $1,000 scholarships in 2014, fourteen in 2015, and twenty four in 2016. The funds were also used to buy classroom supplies for students with disabilities at Lake Myrtle Elementary in Land O’ Lakes, Weightman Middle School in Wesley Chapel and Wesley Chapel High School. But they did not stop there! Some of the funds were also used to acquire holiday gifts for adults with autism. The non-profit organization has had multiple successful events since

Regan and Sydney have been best friends since they were young girls the very beginning, such as superhero pub crawls, yearly golf scramble, and scavenger hunts amongst others. This year is started off strong with the huge success of the “Heroes vs Villains” Soho Pub Crawl. An upcoming event you will not want to miss is the “Casino Night” happening on April 28, 2017 over at the CL Space in Ybor City, located at 1911 N 13th St
