“I feel like part of the family,” is a phrase that Dr. Larry Lieberman and his staff hear over and over from their patients. For more than 30 years they have been leaders in dental health, providing patients with the most advanced and effective treatments available in a comfortable, spa like office on U.S. 19 in Palm Harbor. Dr. Lieberman and his team are proud to announce the name of his practice is changing to Dental Arts of Palm Harbor but everything else that his patients have come to expect and love will remain the same.

“Dr. Lieberman’s dental office experience is about as excellent as one could hope,” says patient Sondra C. “Professionalism coupled with the latest technology as well as a top caliber staff. Dr. Lieberman is the best dentist I’ve ever been to. He explains everything, listens empathetically and respects my input. I just can’t say enough positive things about this dentist and dental practice.”

From The Editor Carla Dubis I want to start this editorial by thanking every single person that took some time to reach out to me and say a few words of encouragement in regards to my new role as Editor. Thank you! From the bottom of my heart, for your support and positive feedback. I also want to thank you for sending me your deepest condolences over the sudden and recent death of my father. Losing a loved one is never easy, but I am happy that my dad and I got to spend a lot of quality time together while he was here visiting. I find comfort in remembering all the good times him and I shared throughout my 31 years of life. Just remember to tell those you love how much you care and how much they mean to you on a daily basis. You never know what tomorrow may bring. Even though my college education was focused on Fine Arts and Web Design, there's always been a special place in my heart for the written word. I realize I am not an expert writer, and I will sometimes forget a comma or two, but I want you to know that I am extremely passionate about writing and sharing my thoughts and feelings with you through my editorials and stories. I want to share with you some of the emails I received from our readers,

We make a blueprint, help with budget, show what's practical, and make sure that you are spending dollars in the right place. Your home is one of the most important investments you’ll ever own, so you might as well love it and make sure you’re doing the right things to receive a great return on investment if you ever decide to sell.”

AFTER very first priority. They will ask you how you are going to use the space, how long will you be there, what your lifestyle is like, etc. Sometimes after a consultation with The Property Doctors you might realize that it makes more sense to invest your dollars in one place than in others, which is truly priceless because you are saving time and money! Recently the couple worked with a family that bought a distressed property in Tarpon Springs and helped them turn it into a dream home. Libba says, “The house had great bones with a beautiful view of the water, but was very outdated. We went out to get an idea of the space and gave them some ideas. The couple ended up giving us full control of the renovation process. It was so rewarding to finish their home and hear that they were 100% satisfied. Jeff and I thrive as a team together and to have our clients express their satisfaction with a completed job is one of the best feelings!”

Happy clients from East Lake say, “The Property Doctors helped us achieve a total transformation of our 1990’s dated home and turned it into an updated space with a bright open floor plan. Jeff offered us great ideas (with graphics), reconfigured our main living areas by taking down walls and implementing a better flow, and even created a custom design to highlight our fireplace. We couldn’t be happier with our ‘new’ home!”

Washington Park Village - Oldsmar’s Premiere Executive Live/Work Community by Marcy Sanford Oldsmar residents Steve and Marie Becklund have seen the area change a lot in the 40 years they’ve lived here. Now with the development of the new executive live/work community, Washington Park Village, they are excited to be a part of the city’s growth and redevelopment. “We’ve seen Oldsmar grow from a quaint town to a beautiful magnet for the area. We choose to live here originally because it was a quick drive to anywhere you wanted to go but now it has become a nucleus between Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. You can find great restaurants and entertainment here. We love it.” Steve points to all the new developments in Oldsmar as just another great reason to live there. “We have an Earth Fare opening this fall, a soccer field for professional teams being built, the BMX park continues to expand, and now the city is planning new developments in the town center. When people suggest going to another town for dinner or entertainment, we ask, ‘why would we want to go anywhere else?’” The Becklunds and their three

10

sons started planning Washington Park Village ten years ago, but had to halt the proposed townhouse development due to the recession. They quickly returned the deposits people had paid during presells and waited for a more amendable time to begin again. Once the timing was right, they began researching and revising their original plans to make Washington Park Village a premier townhome community to appeal to people who want to be able to easily combine life, work, and play. “We had to start the project over

again so we looked at what trends were happening in other cities and saw a need for residences where people could work and live,” said Steve. Washington Park Village, located in the heart of downtown Oldsmar, will be just such a community. Thanks to the fact that it is double zoned, homeowners in Washington Park will be able to have professional office space on the first floor and then enjoy a very short commute home to their plush upstairs residence or the entire townhome can be used for residential. The upscale townhome community will feature 2 and 3 story

SEPTEMBER 2017

townhomes all of which will have 3 bedrooms, 2 ½ baths, 2-car garages and high-end fixtures and features. The venture is truly a family project for the Becklunds and their 3 sons and Steve and Marie give their son Victor credit for coming up with such an amazing design for the project. “We all love redevelopment,” says Steve, “but Victor really put this plan together.” The Becklunds have paid attention to every detail of the townhome design, making them a showcase you’ll love. The townhomes will be built by award winning local builder Point Construction known for their

innovative designs and concepts. Both the 2 and 3 story townhomes have porches and balconies, high ceilings with archways and crown molding, granite counter tops and designer style wood cabinets, a large chef kitchen island, and an oversized garage. In addition to the special touches and upscale features, one of the best things about Washington Park Village is its easy access and walkability to some of Oldsmar’s best features – parks, restaurants and community

Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles

gathering spots. A short walk in one direction will bring you to RE Olds Park with its gorgeous views of the water, fun festivals and great playgrounds. Go in a different direction and you can easily walk to the library, the Oldsmar town center and a wide variety of restaurants – Mexican, sushi, Thai, sandwiches, wings – whatever you’re hungry for. And as Oldsmar grows and develops the area around the town hall, you’ll have even more options for

entertainment, dining and socializing. Washington Park Village is the perfect location for someone who wants to truly have the perfect balance of work and fun. “We are very excited about this project,” says Steve. “Everything is top of the line. Since we broke ground this summer, we’ve received a lot of interest and have already sold one of the homes.” If you’re looking for a new home where you can live, work and

play, take a look at Washington Park Village today. Steve says buyers during the preconstruction phase will be able to choose their own flooring and fixtures. Don’t wait too late or you’ll miss out. Washington Park Village is located at the corner of 412 Washington Avenue and 415 Park Avenue. For more information visit www.washingtonparkvillage.com or call Marie Becklund at (727) 4106229.

This Dream Wedding Gift is open to all public and private school teachers in all grades Pre-K through 12th grade. Teachers make such a huge difference in the lives of children and families in our Tampa Bay community, we thought a great way for Old McMicky’s Farm and the community to show our appreciation was to help a teacher start a family of their own with this $20,000 Dream Wedding Gift. The “Teachers ROCK” appreciation gift has three primary goals. 1. To provide a great gift of a Dream Wedding to a deserving teacher. 2. To promote Awareness and Appreciation in the general public / Tampa Bay community of school teachers and the tremendous contributions teachers make to our local children and families. 3. To help build Esprit de Corps and Pride even more for our local teachers as a group internally. To help achieve the goal of teacher appreciation, especially goals #2 and 3, all applicants for the dream wedding will be requested to submit a video to include: A. SAT/ACT/COLLEGE ADMISSION OUTLOOKS by Dr. Wayne Adams Remaining fall exam schedule: SAT: Oct 7, Nov 4, Dec 2; PSAT primary date Oct 11; ACT: Oct 28, Dec 9. Now that school has started and most schedules have settled down, we can all take a long, relaxing breath and think about fall planning. Seniors and their parents are thinking about applying to colleges, the SAT and/or the ACT Exam, FASFA forms, and Bright Futures and other scholarships … on top of all the academics and activities that constantly demand attention. The “gorilla in Florida” is the rock-hard deadling of November 1st from UF. Most other schools are fine with a January 1st application and standard exam scores following soon behind. For those wanting to apply for early option or early decision, most of these probgrams are fine with exam scores coming in late November through December – but make sure to check the dates with your target schools to be absolutely sure.

16

Juniors and Sophomores are simply looking forward to successfully completing their fall term, and doing their best on the PSAT coming in mid-October. Many are already preparing for the full exams, which gives them more time to prepare and experience the exams. On occasion, I have tutored seventh graders for the SAT and ACT, and it is becoming more common for me to start with ninth or tenth graders as well.

For Ad Info 727-943-2946 • info@NNLFlorida.com

Everyone is hoping the Florida legislature extends the increase in the award for the Florida Academic Scholars program, which could cover full tuition at any Florida public college or university … plus give parents some additional negotiating ability with private schools. When I am asked, “Wayne, what do you do?” most expect the answer, “I am a tutor.” Instead, my answer is, “I help my

SEPTEMBER 2017

students have their best possible futures which includes doing their best on the SAT and/or ACT Exam.” This is why each of my students/parents receives a copy of two guides that I have written. The first is Negotiating with Colleges, which has saved many families from $1,000 to $10,000 a year in college costs. The second is How to Write College Application Essays that Colleges will Love, with 104 pages including how to write great essays and over 40 examples with my comments and explanations. Also, I help with college application information, ideas about possible schools, coaching for students in how to study most effectively, and special negotiating points. For example, you may be surprised to know that, if a family has a relatively low EFC (expected financial contribution) on the FASFA Form, it costs less to attend Eckerd College (a private school in St. Petersburg) than to attend USF. The reason is that Eckerd covers a very large percentage of the difference between their posted price and the

Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles

EFC, while USF does not. Many private colleges cover high percentages of the difference. And if your student is admitted to Harvard, Yale, or other top universities and the family makes less than around $65,000 a year, it is a “free ride” because they have huge endowments and invest in their students. Their admissions are “need blind”. More than 60 percent of Harvard College students receive financial aid, and the average grant this past year was $40,000. Families with students on scholarship pay an average of $11,500 annually toward the cost of a Harvard education. Check it out! If You Would Like To Talk More About How I Can Help You, please contact me at 727-253-0639 or at wwa0811@mykolab.com. Dr. Wayne Adams is one of the leading SAT and ACT tutors in the country. His students normally improve 200 – 350 points on the Writing, Reading, Writing and Essay, and Math, and 4 – 7 points on the ACT composite. They have been admitted to eight of the top ten universities in the country, seventeen

Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles

of the top twenty-five, and many schools in Florida. These schools include Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Stanford, U Chicago, Duke, U Penn, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Notre Dame, Emory, UC Berkley, UCLA, USC, UNC (Chapel Hill), NYU, Northeastern (Boston), Boston College, Georgia Tech, Air Force and Merchant Marine Service Academies, Penn State, LSU, Auburn, UF, U Miami, FSU, USF, UCF, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, FIU, New College of Florida, Stetson, and Julliard – Manhattan - New England - and Berkley Conservatories of Music. Trinity Family Physicians Celebrating 10 Years of Letting Their Family Care for Yours By Marcy Sanford

When the husband and wife team Dr. Stephanie Eldridge and Dr. Amir Shirmohammad opened Trinity Family Physicians in 2007, they wanted to bring a unique and special type of care to the area. “We both grew up in Tampa and wanted to return here after our residencies,” said Dr. Shirmo, as his patients call him. “We heard of a new hospital in Trinity that was opening and decided to open our practice in this area. From the very beginning, we have been overwhelmed by the love and support we’ve received from the community.” “Each day we feel so honored to be trusted by whole families,” said Dr. Eldridge. “We truly enjoy coming to work every day,” said Dr. Shirmo. “This is more than a job. It is a passion and a calling. The great thing about our practice is that it extends beyond the walls of our office. It’s great to see

our patients out at local events or around town running errands.” It is because of this caring, positive attitude that so many families trust Trinity Family Physicians for the care of their whole family – from age 8 and up. Dr. Shirmo and Dr. Eldridge even provide care for family members in nursing homes or assisted living facilities. One tip they give for staying healthy is to schedule an annual physical. “One great idea is to schedule your physical in the month you were born,” said Dr. Shirmo. “If you come in before you have any complaints, we can help you prevent health issues.” Another benefit of coming to Trinity Family Physicians before you are sick is that once you know Dr. Shirmo and Dr. Eldridge, they consider you a part of their family and will treat you as such. Dr. Shirmo and Dr. Eldridge will make sure that when you are sick you will get the care you need, when you

“Tech Talk” with Bob - Choosing the Right Printer, Part 2 Inkjet printers will get you up and running with minimal acquisition cost and consumable cost. However, if you plan to use that printer for an extended period of time and run a high amount of copies, consumables will eventually take a big bite out of your recurring monthly budget.

By Bob Dalles Greetings Friends… Last time we were talking about determining printer needs by looking at color vs. monochrome; the different types of paper sizes you need to accommodate; and the number of pages you need to print. If you need to print to any other kind of printer beyond a laser or inkjet, then you need to consult oneon-one with an IT Professional to help you review all the details of your needs. These other printer types can be very expensive when it comes to the printer itself and its consumables. Basic rule of thumb: if you only need to print in black (monochrome) then a monochrome laser printer is going to give you the highest quality. If you need color, then an inkjet printer will give you more versatility. You have two considerations when investing in a printer: acquisition cost (the amount you’ll need to spend on the printer itself); and consumable’s cost (the money you’ll need to spend on ink, toner, etc.). Typically, most inkjet printers have a low acquisition cost, but a high

consumables cost. Laser printers have a high acquisition cost, but have a lower consumables cost. If you only plan to print a ream (500 sheets) of paper or less per month and need color, then the inkjet is most likely the way to go. If you will be printing more than 500 sheets per month then I recommend you meet with an IT Professional. A knowledgeable and trustworthy IT Professional can perform an

incremental analysis between different printers and help you determine the best “bang for your buck.”

“Lieberman” Continued from page 1 He stays on top of the latest technologies available to ensure his patients have the best possible dental health and that he is able to offer treatments that are effective and painless. For more than 15 years he’s been using lasers to treat patients and has found that they have limitless potential. In fact, he was one of the first on the West Coast to use laser technology in his dental practice and teaches students at the University of Florida, as well as other dentists, in how to use the technology. With 6 different lasers in house, Dr. Lieberman says they can be used to treat a wide variety of dental health issues. “Lasers can be used to repair teeth and treat cavities. Because they are painless, we often don’t have to use anesthetic. Lasers help kill bacteria so they can be used for root canals and to treat gum disease non-surgically without pain. I try to get technology that I would want if I was a patient.” Dr. Lieberman says that lasers are even effective at treating patients who snore or have sleep apnea. Another example of cutting edge technology that Dr. Lieberman’s

Dr. Larry Lieberman and Family patients benefit from is the Cerec Machine, which they can use to digitally make crowns in their office so you don’t have to suffer with a painful, temporary crown. The main goal at Dental Arts of Palm Harbor is to make sure that you are treated as quickly, effectively, and painlessly as possible so you’ll be

with the best treatment plan available.” Dr. Lieberman and his expert staff provide any dental care you or your family members could need from general cleaning and preventative maintenance to restorative care, cosmetic dental makeovers and reconstruction, dentures and implants. While most procedures are painless thanks to the new technology, Dr. Lieberman does offer sedation dentistry. However even the most anxious dental patient will be soothed by the atmosphere inside Dr. Lieberman’s office. They have added extra details throughout the office to ensure that you are comfortable and relaxed including memory foam in every chair, noise cancelling headphone, blankets and headrest pillows. months. This patented system of clear aligners gradually repositions your teeth and can be removed when you’re eating or cleaning your teeth. Although they are changing the name of their practice to Dental Arts of Palm Harbor, Dr. Lieberman wants his patients to know that nothing else is changing. “Our practice is still the same. Our patients expect quality care, state-of-the-art technology, caring service and for us to go above and beyond when treating them and that will still be our focus.” Don’t waste anymore time being embarrassed by your smile or worried about your teeth, Dr. Lieberman has treated thousands of patients – giving them smiles they love to show and he can help you too. Dr. Lieberman’s office is insurance friendly and competitively priced, which will give you another reason to smile. Fall means King Mackerel! By Capt. Matt Selby September is still a very hot month in our area of Florida but with that being said, the water temperatures start to come down slightly and that means King Mackerel will be flooding our waters anytime. By the end of the month, the King and Spanish Mackerel, will show up in large numbers as they make their migration through our area well into November. Fall is my favorite time of year to troll the reefs and hard bottom off Clearwater, and the King Mackerel is exactly why. In my opinion, the King Mackerel is the most underrated gamefish in our waters. Some people don’t bother with them because of their, well, I hate to say the word but again, underrated table fare value. I’ll admit, if you try to fry a kingfish fillet, you likely won’t be impressed. However, a bacon wrapped, smoked kingfish nugget is probably my favorite fish dish next to the panko crusted Wahoo bites I make. Most caught fish are what we call “snakes,” between 2 and 8 pounds, but the “Smokers” of 30 to 40, sometimes into the 60 pound range, are what keep

28

us coming back for more, year after year! There’s nothing like the sound of the reel screaming as the fish takes runs as long as 200 yards! I’ve often joked about how I could set that as my alarm clock and I’d wake up pumped and ready to take on the day! They have been known to make an initial run so hard and fast that the bearings get burned out and sometimes the angler will notice smoke coming off the reel, hence the nickname “smoker.” I have fished the local Kingfish tournament called “King Of The Beach” for the past few years and while I’ve never won it, I’ve caught a number of fish that would easily place top 20 out of the 500 boats on tournament day, and of course my personal best; 46 pounder (would have won it!) was caught just 15 hours before tournament time! I’m getting chills just thinking about the November tournament. I feel like this year will be my year!

WHERE & HOW TO CATCH Kings are found anywhere between 10 feet all the way out to 100 feet or more here off Tampa Bay. I know what you’re thinking, “Thanks

For Ad Info 727-943-2946 • info@NNLFlorida.com

Matt, that really clears things up.” The truth is, find the migrating baitfish and the predators will follow. I love searching the beaches for giants. The biggest kingfish are usually found in 2 places. The first place is the Florida middle Grounds and the second place is just off the beach where the sandbar drops

SEPTEMBER 2017

off or hard bottom begins. The big girls off the beach are referred to as “Beachcombers,” and if you’ve ever noticed a restaurant on Clearwater beach with that name, now you know why. The females, along with many species of fish, are much larger than the males. A typical Male Kingfish is rarely

Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles

above 10 pounds but the females have been recorded as big as 80! My favorite method for catching the big Kingfish is a method called live bait slow trolling. This tactic is where the angler either drifts with the current or idles at the slowest speed possible. I usually set back a 4 rod spread with 2 baits low and 2 baits presented at the surface. You can’t forget the wire leader because many Kings are lost to cut lines. Sometimes if I’m trolling fast enough and decide against slow trolling, I’ll use 80 pound Fluorocarbon leader and hope they bite near the

hook and not the line but it’s always a gamble. My second favorite tactic is one anyone can do, even from a kayak! This is easy, chum like crazy and throw out live bait on a float or a balloon and wait for the reel to start screaming! I’ve caught a number of 30+ pound fish this way, and you can too! If you want to catch the biggest Kingfish of your life, book with me for the month of October. I still have some days available! Capt-Matt Selby captainselby1507@gmail.com
