“Scarface” and “Schindler’s List” Casts Reunite for 17th Annual Tribeca Film Festival By Deborah Bostock-Kelley

In 2001 Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff created the Tribeca Film Festival to encourage economic and cultural revitalization of lower Manhattan following the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. Running April 18-29, presented by AT&T, now in its 17th year, the annual Tribeca Film Festival features 45 documentaries and 51 narratives debuting over the course of the 12-day festival. The Festival recognizes new and emerging voices as well as established talent. From over 8,789 submissions, the 2018 Film Festival showcases 96 films from 103 filmmakers. The Competition portion of the Tribeca Film Festival features 12 documentaries, 10 U.S. narratives and 10 international narratives; 14 Spotlight Narratives, 15 Spotlight Documentaries; 5 Midnight, 16 Viewpoints selections; and 11 Special Screenings. The lineup includes 74 world premieres, 6 international premieres, 9 North American premieres, 3 U.S.

Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles

premieres, and 4 New York premieres from 30 countries. This year’s program includes 46 debuting filmmakers and 18 returning directors. This year marks the largest number of female-directed submissions. Forty-six percent is the highest in the festival’s history. The Festival will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s “Schindler’s List” and the 35th anniversary of Brian De Palma’s “Scarface” with screenings and conversations with some of the cast members including Liam Neeson, Sir Ben Kingsley, Embeth Davidtz, Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer. In addition, Tribeca Talks: Storytellers will feature Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, Alec Baldwin, Spike Lee, John Legend, Jamie Foxx, and Tribeca Talks: The Journey will showcase Sarah Jessica Parker’s journey through film, Broadway, television, books, and fashion. The Festival champions the independent storyteller, innovative writing and filmmaking, and creative expression in its many forms – celebrating the storyteller by providing a

diverse welcoming audience. Competing films will vie for $165,000 in cash prizes, in addition to artwork from the Artists Awards program, offering work from acclaimed contemporary artists in select categories. Presented by CHANEL, an individual woman writer or director will win $25,000 for the 6th annual Nora Ephron Award. The award recognizes a woman who embodies boldness and excellence in storytelling like the late filmmaker. On TribecaFilm.com, Cara Cusumano, Tribeca's Director of Programming of Tribeca Enterprises said, "In a year that has reminded us more often of our divisions than our connections, this Festival's program embraces film's unique power to overcome differences - that connecting with stories not our own is the road into our deeply programmed human capacity for empathy and understanding," she said. "We hope that in representing a wealth of undiscovered stories and unique perspectives- including those of a record number of female directors- these 96 films offer a collective journey towards narrower divides and smaller obstacles."

SAT AND ACT IMPROVEMENT: SPRING AND SUMMER OPTIONS By Dr. Wayne Adams Really Good News! The governor signed into law the permanent expansion of both Bright Futures Scholarships to begin with the incoming classes next fall. About this time of year, I start receiving calls from students and parents about the SAT and ACT requirements to receive these scholarships because they can be worth $18,000 to $24,000 during four years of college. The top scholarship requires a SAT of 1290 or an ACT of 29. The 75% level requires a SAT of 1170 and an ACT of 26. The most common difficulty in a student qualifying is the SAT or ACT score. You have until the last exams of the spring to qualify, meaning the SAT on June 3rd and the ACT on June 10th. Bright Futures will “cherry pick” the best scores from multiple exams of the same type, add together the highest scores in each section, and round up the result to see if a student qualifies. If you want to see if you student

8

can qualify, we still have a little time. More and more students are preferring to prepare for the SAT and the ACT exams over the summer when schedules are not so demanding. The summer ACT Exam is on July 14th, and the summer SAT Exam is on August 25th. Rising seniors can take an exam and see if the score is what they need, or take another one in the fall before submitting college applications. Rising juniors often prepare for the PSAT given in midOctober, which is the only qualifying exam for National Merit Scholars. On occasion I help rising sophomores, such as two current seniors who both are National Merit Finalists (top 1% in nation based on PSAT score) with substantial scholarships. From my last article, you know that a freshman entering Princeton (the #1 ranked US college) in 2017 would pay over $3,000 less than a freshman entering the University of Florida (#42), and actually less than any residential college in Florida. If a Florida student from a family of four,

For Ad Info 727-943-2946 • info@NNLFlorida.com

family income of $100,000, and family assets (excluding home equity) goes to Harvard, again they will pay less than going to the University of Florida. The reason is the high endowments of all top schools. These numbers stay about the same for all Top 25 Schools … the key is being admitted. (Sources: collegescoreboard net costs and Harvard.edu cost calculator) Would you have guessed that Florida ranks as the #7 state for freshmen admitted to Princeton in 2017 with 41 students. The top five were three New England States, California, Pennsylvania, and barely Texas (49 admitted).

The key is being admitted. Here’s an idea of how we can help you prepare. (there are more steps involved, but this will give you an idea): the Common Application is different than applications for major Florida schools, the application Essay(s) must be far superior and sometimes two are required, the Free Application For Student Aid (FASFA -

APRIL 2018

which is required) is critical including how to legitimately minimize assets and income that count against you, pushing the SAT and ACT scores to the very top is a “must” (SAT at or above 1400, ACT at or above 31), maximizing college campus visits including talking with admissions and other key experiences, developing special strengths instead of the standard Florida community activities that do not count, understanding scholarship requirements that can vary widely, building negotiating skills to go after the best value packages that can save $10,000 - $40,000 in costs, preparation and practice for the allimportant “personal interview” - so vital because often this “makes or breaks” an otherwise highly qualified student, and plugging-into a local alumni group in advance if possible to build relationships. And my students have been admitted to 8 of the top 10 universities in the country, and 17 of the top 25. If you have an interest in

shooting for a “Top 25”, call me so we can discuss our special program further. You can contact me at 727253-0639 or send me an e mail at wwa0811@mykolab.com. Dr. Wayne Adams is one of the leading SAT and ACT tutors in the country. His students normally improve 200 – 350 points on the Writing, Reading, Writing and Essay, and Math, and 4 – 7 points on the ACT composite. They have been admitted to eight of the top ten universities in the country, seventeen of the top twenty-five, and many schools in Florida. These schools include Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Stanford, U Chicago, Duke, U Penn, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Notre Dame, Emory, UC Berkley, UCLA, USC, UNC (Chapel Hill), NYU, Northeastern (Boston), Boston College, Georgia Tech, Air Force and Merchant Marine Service Academies, Penn State, LSU, Auburn, UF, U Miami, FSU, USF, UCF, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, FIU, New College of Florida, Stetson, and Julliard – Manhattan -

New England - and Berkley Conservatories of Music. Many have received academic, athletic, or music scholarships. This year, he also tutored three juniors who scored at the national merit finalist/semi-finalist levels on the most recent PSAT. He is a former Dean of a Graduate School of Business and Full Professor, and began college teaching at the University of Maryland in 1968. He has degrees and advanced studies at Harvard, Yale, Vanderbilt, Columbia International, and Luther Rice.

April is Autism Awareness Month By Editor Carla Selby The eleventh annual World Autism Awareness day was April 2, 2018. In addition to using a puzzle piece as an icon, the official color for National Autism Awareness Month is a bright royal blue. Joined by the international community, hundreds of thousands of landmarks, buildings, homes and communities in Tampa Bay and around the world, used blue lights in recognition of people living with Autism. Autism-friendly events and community educational activities have been, and will be taking place in our city throughout the entire month of April. These events and activities increase the understanding and acceptance and foster Autism support, while providing fundraising and much needed donation opportunities. I would personally like to take this opportunity to invite you to

Tech Talk with Bob: WiFi Part 3 By Bob Dalles Greetings! Last time we talked about Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) using different methods to communicate. The most common Wi-Fi your computer uses today utilizes radio signals. There have been many types of Wi-Fi standards developed by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The IEEE standard for Wi-Fi radio signals is known as the 802.11 standard. Unless you are a professional computer technician, the three main characteristics of each of the different 802.11 standards you really need to know is: the data transmission speed, the distance or range the signal can travel, and the radio frequency each standard uses. The first standard is 802.11a which transmits at a speed of 54 Megabits Per Second (Mbps); with a range of 150 feet; and uses the 5 Gigahertz (GHz) frequency. The next standard is 802.11b

which transmits at a speed of 11 Mbps; with a range of 300 feet; and uses the 2.4 GHz frequency. Notice the 802.11b standard cut the speed way down from 54Mbps to 11Mbps but it does double the range from 150 feet to 300 feet. These standards are not compatible with each other because 802.11a uses the 5 GHz frequency and 802.11b uses the 2.4 GHz frequency. The next standard is 802.11g which transmits at a speed of 54 Mbps;

with a range of 300 feet; and uses the 2.4 GHz frequency. 802.11g gave us the back 54 Mbps speed plus the range of 300 feet. We got the best of both 802.11a and 802.11b. The other great thing about 802.11g is since it uses the 2.4 GHz frequency it is backward compatible with the 802.11b standard which also uses the 2.4 GHz frequency. So if you had computers using 802.11b they could also communicate with 802.11g computers. That way when 802.11g was introduced you could use it with your existing 802.11b computers which gave you the flexibility of upgrading your existing 802.11b equipment to 802.11g when it was financially feasible to do so. Remember, every time a new standard was introduced its price increased. So if you had only a few computers, the cost of upgrading from 802.11b to 802.11g wasn’t too bad. However if you were a small company with dozens or even hundreds of

computers the financial hit to upgrade was pretty substantial. Is your head spinning yet? There are so many acronyms to remember and the details of each standard can be overwhelming. Don’t drive yourself crazy. All you need to remember are the three basic characteristics for each standard: speed, range, and frequency. Next time we will cover more of the 802.11 Wi-Fi standards. Have a tech question? Email it to TechTalkTBNL@BobTheComputerGuy.NET. Questions will be selected by the popularity of a topic and answered in this column. If you have a more urgent need or have a unique situation you may schedule an appointment with one of my Professionally Certified Technicians by calling 727-534-4000. Until next time, stay safe on the internet!

Custom Windows and Doors of Pasco, Inc: Your Perfect Door and Window Solution By Tom Bostock The average window is warranted for 10 years while a door is approximately 30 years. Windows can begin to leak with age. Sliding door wheels, and entrance door hardware can wear out over time. If your house was built before 1988, you will probably be in the market for replacement windows and doors in the very near future, if you haven’t already made that investment. When the EPA created their “energy star” rating system in 1992, it rated the energy efficiency of all building products. Did you know that builders’ grade windows only had to meet the minimum standard to be considered “energy star,” since products were rated on a scale of 1 to 100? Your “energy star” home might not be as energy efficient as you think it is. That may be a problem for a lot of our local homeowners, but not if

you live in the Port Richey area. This family-run business, established 27 years ago, continues to offer custom doors, windows and accessories for their friends and neighbors, with smiling, friendly service. Are they any good? Their A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau is an indication of just how much they value your business, scoring an impressive 97 out of a possible 100! Recommendations and reputations are a company’s lifeblood. If you check online Yelp, you can read some glowing testimonials about the service and products that you can expect from Custom Windows and Doors and of Pasco, Inc. Peter L. contacted them when he was referred by several neighbors who had used their services. He was rehabbing a house at the time. “They were better than advertised,” he wrote. “When it was time to replace all the windows and sliding glass doors at my own home, they were my first phone call,”

he continued. “If you are not using CW&D in your home, you are getting less than you ought to!” Peter was not alone in his praise of the quality and service provided by CW&D. Another satisfied client, Laura M. ended her Yelp testimonial with the following: “Every one of the employees I encountered from the office to the installers were true professionals and were a delight to

work with and I would recommend this company wholeheartedly.” Several other clients took the time to sing their praise as well. So, who are these magicians of the custom doors and window business? Bob and Carole Leggiere had the dream of providing quality custom windows and doors to homeowners in Port Richey and founded what is today Custom

Windows and Doors of Pasco, Inc. Since Bob’s death in 2012, Carole has continued that legacy, providing the same, fine-quality custom products and services that their company has come to represent. Custom Windows and Doors of Pasco Inc. offers a special experience to all their valued customers. They are the only door and window company in the area that even offers custom entry doors for mobile homes. Does

your home’s curb appeal need a facelift? Is your front door a little “tired-looking?” Owner, Carole Leggierre, suggests updating your front door with a custom insert. Her custom jig specialist, Frank Kownack, can design the ideal template for equally talented Raffaele Sasso to create the final finished product. With your custom insert, your previously average-looking door will become a unique, one-of-a kind eye-catcher, the

envy of your neighborhood. Like the saying goes, “the job isn’t complete until the paperwork is done.” Paperwork is in good hands at Custom Windows and Doors of Pasco with Marilyn Loper efficiently handling all licensing and permitting requirements while equally adept Nicole Grau manages their counter sales, contract and permit paperwork. Sales and installations are proficiently overseen by another longtime key employee, Todd Partlow, the company troubleshooter, while experienced installation service tech, Sonnie Ranno, performs the warehouse functions, replacing screens, glass and vinyl. Carole says, when it comes to the windows and

doors that they represent, “if it can be fixed, he can fix it.” They extend a one-year warranty on their installations as well as all manufacturer’s warranties, representing major companies like PGT Industries, Custom Window Systems, Jeld-win Windows and Doors, Builders Hardware Inc, Huttig Building Products, Plastpro/ThermaTru Doors (now available in colors), to name a few of their many professional sources. Owner, Carole Leggiere, credits her experienced staff for the continued success and growth of her company. From their 5,000 sq.ft. main facility with a window and door showrooms, she makes the following promise,” we go out of our way to make the customer happy.” Open M – F 8:30 to 4:30 and 9:00 to 12 on Saturday, 727/8419490, if it involves doors or windows, this is the place to come. “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” By Tom Bostock The iconic strains of that familiar song, “Take Me out to the Ballgame,” written by a 29- year-oldsong writer, Jack Norworth, who had never attended a single baseball game when he wrote it in 1908, but drew his inspiration from a bill board advertisement, blares out of loud speakers and echoes across the stadium on this special day. Off-key, you join in the refrain, vainly chasing some semblance of the actual tune but nobody seems to care. Vendors of all ages, hawking overpriced hotdogs, cold drinks and beer, climb up and down the stadium seating rows like a swarming colony of ants, selling their wares and adding to the general controlled-chaos ambience. Sitting in the outfield section, in an uncomfortable wooden seat, dressed in your too-big Little League uniform and cap, with your Dad in the adjacent seat, life is good. Holding your genuine Spaulding outfielder’s baseball

22

glove, pre-autographed by your favorite player, in front of you, you wait patiently for that errant fly ball that will be your trophy of a lifetime. That is, if the other kids in your row don’t get to it first. It’s no big deal if it starts to drizzle; if the players can handle it, you can too. It’s that special time, when all losses of the previous year are wiped clean, and an undefeated team strides out onto the field, bright with promise and anticipation. After the playing of the National Anthem, unblemished by needless kneeling and protest, the home team will take the field, and those magical words, indelibly etched forever in the minds and hearts of every living baseball fan will ring out. “Play Ball!” That or a similar scenario was enacted by millions of baseball fans across the country during opening day. For baseball fans in the Tampa Bay area, that will be Tropicana Stadium and the Tampa Bay Rays, formerly the Devil Rays, their hometown professional team.

Here are a few fun facts about professional baseball in Tampa/St. Petersburg. Did you know that the Rays were not the first professional baseball team to call the Tampa Bay their home? For a single season, the Senior Professional Baseball Association called St. Petersburg its home. The teams were made up of 35-year-old and older former major league players. According to ML.com, “the St. Pete Pelicans were their first and only league champions.” Do you know where the “King of Swat” hit what may have been his longest home run and one of the longest ever recorded? Yep. That’s right. In 1919 in a Spring Training game, Babe Ruth connected with an unbelievable, 587- foot blast against the New York Yankees at Plant Field. When today’s Rays take the field this year, it will be a different team from last year. Gone is the perennial slugger and all star third baseman, Evan Longoria. He and his 4.5 million-dollar contract are

APRIL 2018

now San Francisco Giants, a move that didn’t make many fans very happy. He had been the team’s longest tenured player. The team also expects to lose starting pitcher Alex Cobb to free agency while another free agent, Logan Morrison, is reportedly being courted by the New York Mets, according to Mets former General Manager, Jim Duquette in his predictions for his top 25 free agents. According to mlb.com, if the season started this week, you would probably see the following starting lineup for the Tampa Bay Rays: Centerfield – Kevin Kiermaier, Left field – Denard Span, Third Base – Matt Duffy, Designated Hitter – Corey Dickerson, Right Field – Steven Sousa Jr, First Base – Brad Miller, Second Base – Daniel Robertson, Catcher – Wilson Ramos, Short Stop – Adeiny Hechavarria. With equally skilled backups at most positions, this is a potentially potent line-up in anybody’s book. The pitching line-up is in

Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles

equally good hands with starters, Archer, Snell, Faria, and Eovaldi. There is also a talented bull pen of both right and left handers to step in if any of the starters falter. Currently consisting of Jennings, Colome, Rome, Stanek, Kittredge, Rose, Alvaredo, Hu, Hudson, and Andriese, there is also a wellstocked minor league system with strong, young arms just waiting for the chance to show what they can

Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles

do in the big leagues. If there is a better game than baseball, I don’t know it. Nothing beats second guessing the umpires and reflecting on their dubious parentage when the call doesn’t go your team’s way. Suggesting that the umpire needs a tin cup, white-tipped cane and dark glasses has become a national past-time. What can beat sitting in your seat when it’s the bottom of the 9th with the score

tied 2 to 2. There are two outs with bases loaded. Your team is up. The pitcher lets a fastball fly, a white blur, headed for the plate at lightning speed. In less than a blink of an eye, your batter lifts his right front leg while flexing the muscles in his arm holding the bat. Physics takes over! The bat, swinging at more than 95 miles an hour makes solid contact with the spinning ball moving at a similar rate of speed.

The ball is propelled off the bat at a speed of more than 100 miles an hour! You gasp and then hold your breath, hoping against hope for a base-clearing home run. The umpire yells, “foul ball,” as the ball flies harmlessly over the foul pole and out of the stadium. You die a little inside. “Strike one!” the umpire signals. “You need a guide dog,” you respond. Another pitch corkscrews its way to the plate and into the catcher mitt with a resounding thud. “Strike two.” The air is so thick that you could cut it with a knife. The pitcher winds up again and lets another fast ball go spinning towards the plate. It seems like the crack of the bat can be heard six counties away. The ball begins its inexorable arc toward the outfield fence and over it! The crowd erupts. You won! If you could bottle that feeling, you would be a millionaire! That is the thrill and mystique that is baseball. It’s time to make a memory. Get out there and support your very own Tampa Bay Rays.

“Dr. Nelson” Continued from page 1 Throughout her career, Dr. Paula has always stayed educated and up-to-date about the latest therapies and techniques. She is very excited about the recovery rate she’s seen using EMDR therapy. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is an evidence-based treatment for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, phobias, grief and addictions. Dr. Paula says “I have achieved great results with my clients who suffer from anxiety, PTSD, and phobias. With less than 12 visits, I’ve seen significant improvement that would have taken 2 – 5 years of talk therapy to accomplish.” Most of us have experienced some distress growing up. We may tell ourselves that we’re not good enough or that we’re unlovable or that we are alone. Evidence indicates that EMDR is very effective in eliminating these distressing thoughts, because it activates our brain’s problem solving process to alleviate symptoms and decrease the distress from disturbing memories. Couples Counseling for Every Stage of Your Relationship: Dr. Paula’s counseling philosophy for couples is based on the research and work of Drs. John and Julie Gottman and their book “The Seven Principles for Making a Marriage Work.”

24

“The Gottmans have spent 40 years researching what makes a relationship work. They have developed principles that help couples develop a deeper connection with one another. When couples come to me for therapy, I tell them that in order to repair and rebuild their relationship, they have to become friends again. Because all of the Gottmans’ exercises and principles are based on research, they offer concrete help for couples who want to build stronger, happier, healthier relationships.” Couples who come to Dr. Paula complete the “Gottman Relationship Checkup.” This is an extensive, online questionnaire. The results from the questionnaire help Dr. Paula determine the areas where the couples need to focus their work. Dr. Paula explains that this type of research driven counseling is beneficial in the long-run to couples. The Relationship Checkup helps Dr. Paula develop a treatment plan for the couples so that they can focus their work and create the relationship they desire in a shorter amount of time.

mobility and accessibility may have prevented people from seeking therapy in the past, now, thanks to safe, secure online technology anyone can benefit from therapy even if they want to stay at home in their PJs while doing so. Dr. Paula, a certified Etherapist, says that she’s seen many clients benefit from online therapy, “Online therapy sessions allow clients to see me at their

convenience, whether they travel a lot for work, don’t have time to drive to and from appointments, are new moms who find it difficult to leave the house or have mobility issues. My website is HIPAA secure and very user friendly.” Dr. Paula says the site is so user- friendly that she’s even counseled clients on their lunch hour from their car. American Idol Contestant Made Tampa Bay Proud! By Deborah Bostock-Kelley

Today, when you type “Zach” in Google search, it’s not the last name “Braff” or “Galifianakis” that pops up, but a lesser-known “D’Onofrio” immediately autopopulates. Until his life changed on March 11, unless you knew the young man self-described as “funny, dorky, and nice,” you wouldn’t realize the significance of the search results. On that Sunday night during primetime on ABC, the Wiregrass Ranch High School student stole the hearts of judges and viewers alike in his televised audition for the reboot of American Idol. Overnight, the seventeen-year-old became what dreams are made of. No one could have predicted that the cute bespectacled kid, a collector of quirky socks, in lucky clover socks, with a higher pitched speaking voice would have a deep crooner’s singing voice that

26

shocked the judges and the nation. Katy Perry grew wide-eyed when the teen began serenading the judges with Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight” and decided to join him in a slow dance. Zach didn’t miss a beat, continuing his perfectly pitched rendition while he danced and dipped the celebrity with Lionel Richey and Luke Bryant dancing together behind the judges’ table. After the song’s conclusion, Luke asked the singer if it was “his real voice” and Zach assured him it was. Luke later tweeted that Harry Potter just walked in and slayed us, tagging the teen in the post. One beautiful song, one unanimously-awarded golden ticket and a giant bear hug by proud mom, Darci later, Zach is headed to Hollywood. But first this down-to-earth young man must finish his AP homework and his dual enrollment, go on multiple interviews, win Superior

for the state thespian competition and place as Jazz Vocal finalist in Pasco Spotlight on Talent. Once teased for his unique

speaking voice, Zach is learning that being different makes you completely memorable. It helps that his background story is one

Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles

made for television. “I have not been singing very long because I was afraid to share my voice. My speaking voice and my singing voice are completely different. Some people at school made fun of my speaking voice and that made me very shy. I decided to give singing a try and it made me feel so good. At that point I did not care what anyone thought about my speaking voice,” Zach said. “I really started singing on my own at age 15, but I have grown up in a musical family.” Zach’s parents, Darci and Bryan, own the Dreamhouse Theatre in Lutz, where Zach played supporting roles as Benjamin in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Farquaad in Shrek the Musical. It was friends at school that showed him the information about Tampa Bay Idol and encouraged him to audition. Zach walked away from that competition with a ticket to skip the line of the American Idol auditions in Orlando. After

Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles

another successful audition in Orlando in front of the producers, Zach headed to New York to audition in front of the celebrity judges. Between being seen on promotional commercials to the actual audition, he is learning how to deal with being an overnight local celebrity. Darci said that he has fans in Publix and Walmart. Kids on Instagram are tweeting congratulations and things like, “OMG that’s Zach. He goes to my school!” Zach can take it all in stride because he has a tremendous mom, dad, and sister to keep him grounded and serve as his support system and cheerleaders. “My mom has been there for me at every audition and helped me through every moment of this journey. My parents are my inspiration. They work hard and follow their dreams. They started Dreamhouse theatre because they believe in the Arts and this is very inspiring to me. If it were not for them, I would not have the

confidence I have today,” he said. “They have always supported me and my dreams and I love them very much.” Though the American Idol journey ended in Hollywood for this lover of Frank Sinatra and other old-school crooners that he says “inspires him to keep the classic music alive,” Zach has more than made his city proud. And his dream goes far beyond music. After graduation, he plans to go to medical school in New York, while pursuing a musical career. Zach realizes the importance of being a role model for younger kids who watched his incredible ride. “I am excited to be a role model for kids younger than me that may not have the confidence to follow their dreams. I also want to let kids know that what people say about you or your voice, does not matter. You can do anything you want in life! Don’t let anyone stop you from following your dreams,” he said.

From an unknown theatre and chorus kid with the quirky socks and higher speaking voice to the local poised American Idol contestant with 697,000 search results in Google, Zach is still definitely one to watch… if not on American Idol, but live and in person when the talented teen next performs at Dreamhouse Theatre. “Do not worry about what others think or say,” he said. “Just be YOU.”
