Turn Back Time with Let’s Face It Skin Care! By Lisa Stephens For Kristin Fox, owner of Let’s Face It Skin Care, enabling others to feel great about themselves is what motivates her. “When you feel good, everything around you feels better,” she said. And for Kristin, it isn’t just about looking great; it’s about bringing your skin back to a healthy, radiant state so you will feel good about your skin as well. “I really want to help people feel good about

themselves. It’s not just surface level, it’s from within,” she explained. Kristin has been in the beauty business since 2004. “I always wanted to own my own business, but only thought of it as a dream,” she shared. After some serious soul searching, she decided to venture out and take the chance of making her dream come true. She didn’t have all the details worked out of starting out on her own, but she had the passion to make it

happen. Her inspiration, she said, stemmed from her childhood memories with her grandmother at the beauty parlor. “All the women seemed to float, they felt so good. Those memories kept reminding me of the energy that I wanted to feel again.” In 2014, she opened Let’s Face It Skin Care, offering quality treatments, products and superior customer service to clients desiring to help their skin look its best. Clients have been so pleased, she has been nominated for “Best Skin Care Specialist” of Tampa Bay for two years in a row. Google reviews include, “Having just turned 40 and having promised myself for years that I would take skin care See “Let’s Face It” on page 28

Dance Excellence Ballroom: Creating Community in Oldsmar By Deborah Bostock-Kelley Dance Excellence Ballroom owners Stefan and Traci Dobrev’s goal is to get people off of the couch watching Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, and World of Dance and into their ballroom to experience the magic firsthand. “Instead of watching what other people are doing and saying oh, I wish I could

do that, we want to teach them how to do it,” said Stefan. “People think with ballroom dancing, you have to compete but actually only ten to 20% of students in the dance studio compete. The majority do dance for fun, health, and exercise. It teaches you how to communicate with a partner and shows you how to work together.” Stefan, a dancer since See “Dance” on page 20

FROM THE PUBLISHER MATT SELBY It’s not often I write the editorial. My Wife Carla is our Editor and does an amazing job engaging with our readers in all seven of our Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles editions peppered across Tampa Bay. It seems like everywhere we go, a reader recognizes her and compliments her on the job she’s doing. Her editorials tend to go deep. They resonate with the people of our community in ways I never imagined. Many of our readers even share a similar life story with Carla. I’m very thankful for her, and in the spirit of Thanksgiving, November’s most notable holiday, I wanted to use this space to talk a little about her. I don’t think very many of us actually spend Thanksgiving day giving thanks for the blessing of last years’ harvest like the holiday originally started out signifying. Although, if you’re like my Mom and have a live hydroponic garden growing in your house, you might. Anyway, back to Carla. We’re talking about a young woman who immigrated to this country with limited knowledge of the English Language at the age of 15. Many of you may share a similar background, and even if it wasn’t you personally who immigrated here, your

parents, or grandparents most likely did. Probably not knowing the English language too well. Carla grew up in Venezuela; a country once known for being the richest democracy in all of South America, now on the brink of collapse due to an economic crisis under a disastrous dictatorship. As a young girl she learned to speak Spanish, then Italian and finally English. I know what you’re thinking and you’re right; I can’t win an argument in three languages, lucky me! To be honest, in almost 3 years we’ve hardly had a disagreement. I’ll admit, she is right most of the time. “Happy wife, happy life” and all that. I’m picking up the Spanish language slowly, but after 30 years of only hearing and speaking English in my household, it’s not easy. I have a newfound respect for everyone who came to this country and learned our native language at any age, but especially in adulthood. Carla didn’t just learn the English language. She earned an impressive education. She first graduated with her Bachelors from the University of Tampa, and later a Masters in Education with a concentration in Instructional Technology and a minor in web design. This may be why

she’s always right. I’ll be the first to tell you, she’s smarter than I’ll ever be, and I’m okay with that. Sometimes her “accent” comes through in her editorial pieces, and that’s by design. I don’t try and fix it. Her true voice comes out in so much of her writing, hitting our readers “right in the feels” as some would say. We receive countless E-mails from readers on a weekly basis and Carla loves to interact with everyone. They become fun penpals I guess you could say. Both Carla and I are very thankful for the constructive criticism and support we’ve received through the years. I can’t tell you enough how thankful we are for all of our readers. It’s because of your support we’re able to do what we love. Thank you for welcoming us into your homes each and every month and for supporting the great local businesses we feature. Carla truly enjoys keeping you up to date with what’s going on in the community. We really appreciate when you take the time to send us feedback and content as well. Keep a lookout for Carla’s next editorial in December! I know she will have something good for you!

SAT AND ACT IMPROVEMENT: THANKS AND THE PSAT By Dr. Wayne Adams

About this time each year, I receive many “thank you” e mails from my students who have just received their SAT and/or ACT score from early fall exams. I thought I would share several with you … because seeing my students do their best is a major reason why I became a tutor. “Hi Dr. Adams, I thought you’d be interested to know that my son scored a 1480 on his SAT. He said the score is okay but he would like to do better so you may hear from us again in the next half a year so. Thanks for all your help!” An important lesson in my classes is that every student should seek to do their best, given the time and priorities available. Obviously this student wants to go higher and … and in my opinion, is capable of scoring in the mid-1500’s. “Hi Dr. Adams: Just wanted you to know that my daughter

10 NOVEMBER 2018

went up to a 1340. She is now eligible for top Bright Futures. Thanks, Thanks, Thanks.” “Hi Dr. Adams: Went from a 17 to a 29 on composite. Never thought I would qualify for Bright Futures. Thank you.” As many of you know, 100% Bright Futures is worth over $24,000 … and the major obstacle Florida students face is in qualifying is their SAT and/ or ACT Score. And the 75% level is worth about $18,000. Always great to see my students get a substantial part of their college expenses paid for! In class, we call this, “Dialing for Dollars!” And about this time of year, I receive many calls from parents and students about what I call the “PSAT” blues. The cause is that a strong student, often in IB or multiple AP classes or dual enrolled, did not score at the level expected on the PSAT in October. The inevitable questions are “Why”, and “What can we do about it?”

MAJOR REASONS STRONG STUDENTS DON’T SCORE WELL ON THE SAT, ACT, AND PSAT

In my experience tutoring SAT and ACT over the past six years, there are three major reasons. Reason #1: Most high school students lack key fundamentals

such as having had phonics, grammar, “recall” vocabulary, critical thinking, and the mathematics needed to do well on these exams. Without the ability to pronounce words, students avoid them or forget the definitions quickly. Most students cannot write a topic sentence, support an argument

For Advertising Info 727-943-0551 I info@nnlflorida.com or visit tbnewsandlifestyles.com

logically with reasons other than personal experience, and often are not able to correctly use basic punctuation such as commas and semicolons. Reason #2: Educational directions in most high schools do not match what is required to do well on the SAT and ACT. Pre-calculus, most geometry, and most algebra courses poorly prepare for these exams. Recently, I tutored a 7th grader who had not had algebra or geometry. His baseline score as we started was 375. When he took the actual ACT exam, he scored very close to a 600 in math. Writing essays in high school are often an exercise in how long a sentence or a paragraph can be, thinking this shows academic achievement. In fact, it shows an inability to focus thoughts, to structure a clear argument, to use topic sentences supported by logical and memorable sentences, and to build a coherent conclusion that leaves a reader wanting “more”. Yet this is what is required for the SAT and ACT essays. Reason #3: Most Prep Classes

in high school are woefully inadequate. Recently, I learned that a leading private high school used the worst SAT prep book on the market today and the students were bored to death. In other words, prep classes are seen as “fluff” breaks between the real “academic” work at school … yet the SAT and ACT results often have more impact on students’ future (admissions and scholarships) than most classes in high school.

see their motivations soar when their perspective changes from “Can I do this?” to “I can do this well.” and then to “Let me show you how well I can do.” They discover that real competition is internal and - when they do their best - external results take care of themselves. Learning the strategies often result in comments like, “Cool” and “That makes it a lot easier”. More important, they learn how to “learn for a lifetime”.

WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT

If You Would Like To Talk More About Your Student … Please contact me at 727-2530639 or send me an e mail at wwa0811@mykolab.com.

The Good News: I consistently find that students respond incredibly well and improve when they become both teacher and student as in a college seminar at the junior or senior level where I am their coach. My role is to quickly help them determine where they need to work and to be a resource as they progress. Lecturing is no substitute for determining a student’s baseline level and then structuring their learning around their needs. It very satisfying to

Dr. Wayne Adams is one of the leading SAT and ACT tutors in the country. His students normally improve 200 – 350 points on the Writing, Reading, Writing and Essay, and Math, and 4 – 7 points on the ACT composite. They have been admitted to 8 of the top 10 universities in the country, 18 of the top 25, and many schools in

Florida. Many have received academic, athletic, or music scholarships. This year, he also tutored three juniors who scored at the national merit finalist/ semi-finalist levels on the most recent PSAT. He is a former Dean of a Graduate School of Business and Full Professor, and began college teaching at the University of Maryland in 1968. He has degrees and advanced studies at Harvard, Yale, Vanderbilt, Columbia International, and Luther Rice.

Tech Talk with Bob: STOP Before Repairing Your PC By Bob Dalles

Imagine this. The computer you bought from that big box store seven months ago no longer works. No problem, it’s still under warranty. You call the manufacturer and get a return authorization from them. You pack and ship your computer to them. Today, two months later, you are finally getting it back from the manufacturer and cannot wait to turn it on. You turn it on and it boots right up into the desktop. You notice that your desktop doesn’t look the same way you had it before you sent it for repair. Upon further investigation you realize that some programs are missing, you cannot access your printer, and most importantly, all your pictures, videos, music and

12 NOVEMBER 2018

other data is nowhere to be found. Your computer works, but your personal stuff is gone. You call the manufacturer to ask about your data. Suddenly you find out that the only obligation they had to you under the warranty is that they would repair or replace your computer to the way it was the day you brought it home from the store and took it out of the box. The manufacturer has no liability when it comes to your data. You learn the hard way that your missing programs, data, etc. are your problem. Many people find themselves in this predicament every day. Fortunately, you won’t. Computers are viewed by many as being no different as they see coffee makers or any other electronic appliance. Electronic coffee makers use hardware and some

type of software to make them function. However, the software that runs your coffee maker is not as sophisticated as the software that runs your computer. People typically do not differentiate between the hardware and software aspects

of a computer system. The truth is, where the software in your coffee maker never changes, the software in your computer is constantly changing. Especially your data files as you add and delete your music, pictures and other

personal documents. All this information is stored on your computer’s hard disk drive (HDD). Your HDD stores all computer software information including your personal and unique computer information. This unique information is created over time as you use your computer system by adding programs, printers, data, etc. All these changes alter the contents of your HDD. When you send your computer to the manufacturer for repair, your HDD may be physically replaced by having a new HDD installed into your computer or logically replaced by having all the information on the HDD erased and then rewritten with the information the HDD had on it when your computer was new out of the box. Think of it this way. If you ever had the battery in your car replaced, the first thing you probably learned when you

got back into your car is that all your radio preset stations have been wiped out due to the battery being disconnected. The auto repair shop’s responsibility is not to restore your radio presets but to replace your car’s battery with a working one. You’ll just have to reprogram those preset stations all over again. The same is true of your computer. Important information can be lost during the repair. If it is your personal data, like rare photos, it may be impossible to replace. It is always your responsibility to make sure you have what you need to restore the programs and data you have added to your computer since you bought it. But no one ever tells you this until it is too late. So how do you minimize your data loss when you need your computer system repaired? The first thing you do is make certain that all

your personal data is backed up. This can be difficult if your computer will not turn on. Even if your computer will not turn on, it may still be possible that your data can be extracted from the HDD before you send your computer off for repair. If you are not familiar with how to get your data backed up, contact a professional computer technician for help. The next thing you will need are the installation disk and/or files for any software you added to the computer after you bought it. Make sure you have all of your installation media and product keys so these items can be reinstalled with as little trouble as possible. A list of your email and website user names and passwords are also going to need to be reentered the first time you try to access any of the secured websites you visit. If you are not sure if you have everything you need

to recover all of the additions you made to your computer since you bought it, contact a professional computer technician to help you get all your ducks in a row. An hour or two of prevention will save you a lot of money and grief when your time comes to get your computer repaired. Especially if you rely on your computer for managing your business or investments. Have a tech question? Email it to TechTalk-TBNL@ BobTheComputerGuy.NET. Questions will be selected by the popularity of a topic and answered in this column. Lutheran Church of the Ressurection

Lutheran Church of the Resurrection is an energetic mainstream church celebrating life’s diversity, emphasizing Grace and practical faith. The percentage of society selfdefining as church attenders is now a minority in the US population. Congregations are dwindling and closing - especially among mainline denominations. A primary purpose of the church is shifting to partnering with individuals, families and society to help discover meaning amidst our hurried existence and consumer approach. Perhaps today more than ever, the approach of looking for bridges that can help find meaning, hope, wholeness and inspiration is an important part of church life. Lutheran Church of the Resurrection is strongly interested in striving for health (emotionally, psychologically, spiritually), enjoying the God-given gift of life, and seeking to discover meaning, significance, connection and purpose. LCR does that with

14 NOVEMBER 2018

the surrounding neighborhood by offering regular church stuff of course: worship, Sunday School and Bible study. In addition, many groups and programs are specifically shaped to meet neighborhood needs, offer opportunity for connection or build relationships that can do just that. Offering a park-like setting to exercise neighborhood pets, convenient parking while waiting for the school bus, meeting rooms and campgrounds for HOAs and Scouts, a Little Free Library (when you just have to have a book right now!) and community events – are all ways this church works to make Church available and accessible to all. Weekly community connection activities include Wednesday Night Out (WNO) dinners, providing an economical supper for seniors as well as young parents with children. The number of paid dinners is split between take out and dineins. Through revenue collected by this program, over 150 free

meals are provided each week for homeless folks through the Shepherd Center and another 190+ families receive food for their week through the Food Pantry. After WNO you’re invited to stay for BINGO, which is co-sponsored with American Legion Post 46. All proceeds support area youth programs and scholarships. Some upcoming events include: The Winter Concert series beginning Nov. 11, featuring Ruth Eckerd Hallquality performers in a more intimate venue. Included in the 4-concert series are the Jersey Tenors, for example (sure to be a packed house). Sandwiched between Winter Series concerts is LCR’s annual free Christmas Concert on December 1st and 2nd (3 shows) with a Prime Rib Dinner on December 1st. Tis The Season, this year’s winter event on December 16th, offers fun for the entire family. Billed as a “Shopping, Crafting, Music”

event, TTS offers a gift market with vendors like Thirty One and Scentsy, kids’ make-n-take crafts, ever-popular wine pull, live Christmas music on the patio, visit with Santa, raffles, contests and lots more. Through the year you may enjoy a glass of wine or beer at these events along with a spin on the dance floor or perhaps the 30 Tons of snow and tubing that will return for the 2019 Winterfest next December. Either way in any and all of the activities, Lutheran Church of the Resurrection seeks to build relationships through the small talk that takes place in order to have Big talk about hope, meaning, significance and purpose. Often through those conversations the kingdom as well as the individual and the congregation grows. Perhaps a part of the modern way in which churches find their niche and serve the community: representing Christ in all we say, play and do! Hope to see you one day at LCR!

More Space Place is your number one source for Murphy Beds, Custom Closets and an array of other space saving furniture solutions for your home or office! By Carla Selby

“I have a problem finding places to store things or I really need to organize…” does that sound like you at all? Making the most out of the space you have is important whether your house is small or large. Organizing is about decluttering and arranging your home or office space in more efficient and beneficial ways to you. So stop storing everything in your garage or piling up your clothes and shoes and make a resolution, yes, and a mid-year resolution, to get everything in order. It will make you feel so much better, I can promise you that. More Space Place has attractive, affordable and functional solutions that will help you get organized and create more space within your home without the hassle of a home re-model, a costly addition or an outside storage unit. More Space Place’s array of products include custom closets, home office furniture and organizational systems, Murphy wall beds, garage systems and kitchen organization solutions. Starting off as a single retail location in the early 1980’s, More Space Place has grown to become a nationally recognized and trusted company that continues to expand due to their high level of attentive customer service and quality organizational products. Today, the company has over 28 nationwide stores that are locally owned and operated by community members. Clark Williams and Bob Schmidt are the owners of the three Tampa Bay area showrooms and Design Centers, located in Palm Harbor on US 19 N., St Petersburg on Gandy Blvd. and Lutz on State Rd. 54. “We have seen some very innovative designs created when a client comes in with an idea and our

18 NOVEMBER 2018

designers work with them to make it a reality,” says Williams. “It makes the business both fun and exciting.” Williams recalls that 20 years ago there were very limited choices of furniture and closet solutions and very few options for finishes and materials. “More Space Place now proudly offers the largest selection of wall bed styles available, and in addition, a massive line of complimenting space saving and organizational furniture. In addition, we are one of the only companies offering the ‘Invisa-line’ boring system. This new technology makes the adjustment holes in the furniture for shelf adjustment almost 60% smaller than what others offer,” says Williams. Murphy Beds Can Make Dual Purpose Rooms As America’s #1 Murphy bed retailer, the professional designers at More Space Place can assist you in transforming a spare room or office into a comfortable guest room with a fantastic, durable and high quality wall bed. Today’s wall beds provide the same comfort as standard beds and also have the choices of firm to extra plush mattresses. “We recently purchased a new model home and we wanted to designate one room as a guest bedroom/office. My husband recommended a Murphy bed to save on space. I must admit I was dead-set against it relying solely on my very dated recollection of no style, no comfort and something my parents would have considered,” says recent customer Karen Q. “Luckily for me, my husband, A.K.A ‘Mr. Research,’ did all the legwork and visited one of the More Space Place showrooms. Quality, style, comfort and option-uponoption are the orders of the day and I am happy to admit I was dead wrong. The people at For Advertising Info 727-943-0551 I info@nnlflorida.com or visit tbnewsandlifestyles.com

More Space Place went beyond in customer service, suggestions and execution. Their installers were amazing and we are 100% satisfied. The guest room/office looks spectacular and I get compliments on it on a regular basis!” I must say, after reading so many incredible reviews and seeing their showroom, I am personally considering adding one of these Murphy beds to my own small home office, because of those “unexpected visitors” that end up crashing on my brand new, light colored couches. I will definitely keep you updated on my own Murphy bed in a follow up story. Custom Closet Systems Cut Through the Clutter Do not just daydream about your ideal closet! The local experts at More Space Place can build it for you. Their closet makeovers can consist of wall-hung closet systems, floor-

based closet systems, or even a combination of both. Custom closet systems from More Space Place are designed with your wardrobe in mind, so you will not continue to waste another minute frantically searching for your favorite shoes, shirts, or belt, just to fail. Your new closet would be organized to make room for all the clothes and accessories you already have, with ample space for the new must-haves. More Space Place professional designers will help you create your design in your finish choice to make a oneof-a-kind highly functional closet to fit your needs. One that will save you time and money. Recent and very happy client, Nicole B. says, “Thank you More Space Place for my custom closets. I walked in just to see what the whole process would be like and everything went so smooth. I wanted someone to be able to look at my closets with all my stuff and tell me what

I would need. That is exactly what More Space Place did AND had some other helpful ideas. In the process, they came out to my house, measured and then sent me a digital proof for approval. After I gave the ok, a few days later was the install. A professional installer came out to do the job. He did a great job. He took out the old clothes racks and patched the holes. In addition, he was very considerate of my home; he laid down blankets to protect my floors. I could not be happier with this whole experience and would recommend More Space Place to everyone! In the end, I also received two follow up calls to make sure everything was in order. Now THAT’S customer service.” FREE IN-HOME DESIGN CONSULTATIONS More Space Place offers complimentary in-home design consultations as well as three spectacular showrooms where clients can go check out the vast options of style and finishes and see the quality of their products. “When someone visits one of our three Showroom Design Centers, they’ll find trained and experienced professionals who will introduce them to a full array of wall beds and cabinet options,” says Williams. “They will also find complete furniture collections for beautifully functional offices, media rooms, closets, garages, pantries, laundry rooms and so much more.” Selecting furniture is a very important decision, and one that requires time, energy and a lot of “touching,” yes… touching. I have personally bought a few pieces of furniture online after reading great reviews from other clients, only to be completely disappointed after receiving my product, because the quality of the materials was not what I was expecting. Having the opportunity to go into a store, to see the quality and TOUCH

and FEEL what you are looking for cannot be beat. Williams says, “We believe that if people have the opportunity to see all the various options, they get a better understanding that this can be an incredible creative experience instead of just hanging some rods and shelves. This process also makes the purchasing decision easier. Since there are so many colors, finishes and materials available, seeing these in person also ensures they’ll find the best combination of styles and finishes to match the aesthetics of their home and lifestyle.” The More Space Place creative experience is further enhanced with a three dimensional software program that allows clients to see how various furniture designs would look in their home. No more having to imagine how it would all look like once put together! Thanks to this incredible technology you can actually see how it would all fit in your space and if it matches what you had in mind. “We have found with this visual aid it is much easier for our clients and the designer to work together in order to create the perfect design that is specifically created to meet the needs and desires of the client,” says Williams. More Space Place has three convenient showrooms in the Tampa Bay area. Palm Harbor, US 19 N just north of Tampa Road (727.773.9888), and St. Petersburg on Gandy just west of the Gandy Bridge (727.507.9799) and in Lutz a few miles west of I-75 on State Road 54 (813.935.8432). the age of 7 and a Bulgarian National Dance Champion, and Traci, a ballet dancer since age 5 and competitive gymnast since middle school, pride themselves on having a studio both students and instructors enjoy coming to. Opened in November 2014, the Dobrevs are pleased to have created a fun, safe place where people can meet, form friendships, and find people with similar interests. “It’s so inspirational and that’s what I wanted to create – a place where people wanted to come to – teachers and students,” said Stefan. At Dance Excellence Ballroom, students can learn both International and American Style Ballroom dances, including Salsa, Cha Cha, Rumba, Jive, Samba, Tango, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Quickstep, and Swing.

20 NOVEMBER 2018

Lessons are available privately or in a group class setting and isn’t necessary to bring a partner, unless you want to, though many couples participate as part of a date night. Eleven full-time instructors, and two receptionists are part of the Dance Excellence family. And that immediate sense of “family” is a very important part of the Dance Excellence philosophy as soon as you enter the expansive studio. Certified instructors aren’t transient, rather they are hired as employees of the studio, with comprehensive benefits and continuous education requirements. “We are selective of who we hire. They have to be great dancers, but they also have to be team players who want to excel,” explained Stefan. A misconception about

ballroom dancing is that it is only for retirees. Dance Excellence Ballroom students range from age 4 to senior citizen and through a structured program, can check their progress, right along with their instructor, to know where they stand. The Dobrevs confirm that students are getting everything they wanted out of their lessons. The Dobrevs are confidant a person does not exist that Dance Excellence Ballroom can’t teach to dance, no matter if the dancer considers himself with “two left feet.” “Everyone can learn how to dance, but it depends on the level that they want to learn and how much time that they want to invest, and how good they want to be,” said Stefan. “We love having fun and building community, but we also have a structure.” Their Beginner Program provides instruction of the basics of four or five popular

social dances. The Foundation Program expands those basics to variations of popular social dances. At the next level, students move into the Bronze 1-4 Program. After completing this program, Stefan said that students will be able to go to any social event and dance all the popular social dances with confidence and with any partner, to any type music. The highest program of social dancing instruction they offer is the Silver Program. Besides looking skilled on any dance floor, the benefits of ballroom dancing come in four main categories: mental, physical, social, and emotional. Ballroom dancing is mentally stimulating, necessitating listening, planning, sequential learning and problem-solving. Multiple studies have proven dancing challenges the mind and may prevent or delay the onset of Alzheimer’s in older adults. Because ballroom dancing

involves precise physical activity, listening to the beats in music, remembering dance steps, and taking your partner into account, it is mentally challenging. Ballroom dancing is as physical as going to the gym

to work out; however, less stressful on the body. “When people engage in dance, it’s good because it’s not only the physical, but you have to connect timing and get down to a coordinated sequence of steps. There’s a

lot of mental of processing that goes along with the physical movements,” explained Traci. “It helps with the aging of brain because it’s working the brain in so many different ways. For kids, it helps with the development of the brain.” Ballroom dancing is a social experience as ‘partner dancing’ requires communication, teamwork, and helps create friendships and community. Even some romantic relationships have been born from holding hands and consciously listening and responding to the moves of your dance partner. “Learning how to listen and talk to your partner is key,” said Traci. Emotionally, ballroom dance helps build confidence and poise, and can help people overcome shyness. “Especially for children, ballroom dance teaches them manners, how to treat one another and teaches them

teamwork,” said Stefan. The first Friday night of the month, Dance Excellence Ballroom hosts a couplesonly party, while social parties happen on Thursday evenings. On Saturday, the ballroom host classes for children with special needs. “Our goal is to have these incredible students in competition next year,” said Traci. Stefan stressed, “No matter whether you want to compete or just learn to dance socially, ballroom is for everyone. Our biggest goal is to create a community.” Dance Excellence Ballroom is located in the Oldsmar Plaza at 3730 Tampa Road, Suite 7. They are open Monday through Friday 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more information about group or private lessons or dance parties, visit www. DanceExcellenceBallroom. com or call (813) 814-0099.

Stretch Your Body, Improve Your Life When I was 13 years old I overheard my mother talk about something called “sciatica.” Twenty years later, I am very familiarized with the term and how painful it is. One day you’re dancing the night away and the next day you are taking the trash out and get a horrible lower back pain that completely paralyzes you. Growing older may be inevitable, but pain can be controlled and even eradicated. Stretch RX owner, Ronda Musca and her incredible team are here to help you ease your ailments and stretch yourself to wellness. After talking to clients to get to know more about their unique condition and physical issues, Ronda will customize a wellness plan just for them. It may include BioMat Stretching, massage therapy, personal training or a combination of all three. Stretch RX also offers ionic foot baths that help detoxify your body and reflexology sessions that help stimulate pressure points in the feet. “We address the whole person,” adds Ronda. When she is assessing clients, Ronda factors in not just pain and tightness but also muscle weakness, eating habits and sleeping patterns. I personally had no idea

how stretching could help me with my pain and other symptoms, or how bad I was damaging my own body with my sedentary lifestyle. When you have an inactive lifestyle you may lose muscle strength and endurance, because you are not using your muscles as much. Your bones may get weaker and lose some mineral content. Your metabolism may be affected, and your body may have more trouble breaking down fats and sugars. Your body may also have more inflammation and pain. All which could be solved by stretching! Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you call on the muscles for activity, they are weak and unable to extend all the way. Stretching has been shown to improve circulation, reduce muscle tension, prevent injury, decrease pain, increase energy levels, increase lymph flow and eliminate toxins.

says that seeing a client make an improvement is always the highlight of her day. “I continue to do this for the joy that I get from knowing every single day that I’ve changed people’s lives. Because when people have no

hope and are in pain, stretching them so that they can move again, changes everything.” If you’re tired of being in pain, make an appointment with Stretch RX today. They

seriously after the big 4-0, Kristin has turned around my skin in just a few visits. If you’re not regularly visiting a skin professional, then I seriously recommend that you visit Kristin and try her Perfect Maintenance Facial. I mean no one wants to age prematurely! And heck, I wouldn’t dream of cutting my own hair, so why would taking care of my face be any different? Kristin offers an affordable quality service with no gimmicks.” At Let’s Face It Skin Care in Palm Harbor, Kristin offers several different facial treatments to tackle various issues clients want to address. Optimally, clients should come in for a facial every four to six weeks, according to Kristin. The first appointment lasts about 80 minutes and includes a consultation and thorough evaluation of your skin. “It’s actually a discovery session for me,” she explained. Are you in the sun a lot? What changes would you like to see in your skin? Do you have any specific

The facials don’t end at the jaw line either! They include treatment to the face, neck, décolletage, back, hands and arms as well. “I offer facial treatments using Envrion, a globally recognized skin care brand that is built on science, beauty and care,” she explained.
