Happy New Year From The Tampa Bay News and Lifestyles Family! I am very pleased to have the opportunity to wish you, our readers, our neighbors, our friends, a very happy new year 2018. On behalf of the entire Tampa Bay News and Lifestyles team, I would like to express our gratitude for your continuous support and readership. 2017 was a very busy and challenging year for us at Tampa Bay News and Lifestyles, as we underwent major and significant changes. With a brand new name that better reflects our extensive reach, and a more modern design that strives to keep up with the times, Tampa Bay News and Lifestyles continues to evolve but always maintaining it’s position as the premier community news and restaurant guide in the city. I hope everyone is feeling a bit rejuvenated this January 2018. It’s always good to start a new year strong as we’re facing a new set of challenges, new adventures and new opportunities with a clean slate ahead. If you were not victorious in meeting your resolutions in 2017, don’t worry! Keep on keeping on, don’t give up and make 2018 your year! Just stay strong and determined, and make sure you set realistic goals for yourself. If your resolutions include traveling all over the world or getting in the best shape of your

life, you’ve already set yourself up for failure. When you aim to do too much, you scatter your energy and reduce your chances of success. Instead, try to concentrate your will on just one concrete small goal at a time, and be specific about it. So for instance, instead of saying, “I will get in the best shape of my life,” resolve to say “I will lose 10lbs by the end of the year,” or “I will exercise at least twice a week this year.” If your resolution is to “see the world,” resolve to “travel somewhere new at least three times this year.” Whatever you plan on doing, just don’t rush it, rushing can make or break your plans. When you rush into a last-minute promise, without really prepping for it, you’re less likely to see it through. Smaller goals are easier to achieve and measure, and believe me, small changes always make the biggest difference. Finally, with all the unrest and intolerance in the world, I sincerely hope you and your loved ones find peace and a have a safe, healthy and above all happy new year 2018. - Carla

One Item or 100: “No job is too big or too small,” says Troy. “Our friendly professional haulers will handle almost any kind of junk as long as it is non-hazardous. We pick up single items or can handle multiple truckloads of junk for commercial and residential clients. Our friendly, uniformed drivers will do all the lifting for you, clean up and haul your junk away. More than 70 percent of what we haul away

is recycled or reused and our haulers will do the sorting for you to determine if something should go to the dump, local charities or recycle centers. We have even taken small boats, engine blocks, sheds and docks. We can take away almost any material we can fit in our trucks, without you ever lifting a finger. We’ll remove junk from wherever it’s located and we won’t leave a dent or speck of dirt behind.” Responsible Removal: 1-800-GOT-JUNK? has a new expanded warehouse which Troy says gives them the space to keep even more items out of the landfill. More than 70 percent of the junk that 1-800-GOTJUNK? hauls away is donated to charities, recycled or taken to the transfer station to be made into energy. Nationwide, 1- 800-GOTJUNK? has saved more than 2.4 billions pounds of junk from the landfill. Troy says, “Our employees will sort through your junk and pull out the pieces that can be reused, recycled, or repurposed

so that you don’t have to.” Commercial Property Clean Up: 1-800-GOT-JUNK? also expertly handles office and commercial property junk removal. Recently they cleaned out a 7-½ acre building. Troy says they hauled away 100 truckloads of debris. They work with contractors, property managers, real estate agents, apartment managers and other businesses. They will come to you and give you a free estimate. “Aaron and his crew showed up right on time with a few hours notice, were able to give us a quote, then were able to start right away and even bring another crew to remove all of our debris. All the staff were courteous and worked extremely hard. I will certainly be using them in the future,” says Janet M. Commitment to the Community: Troy and Rachelle say one of the best parts of their business is the relationships they’ve developed with other business owners in the community and the ability

to help local non-profits like the Pinellas County Youth Ranch, Hope Children’s Home and Lighthouse Ministries. “We’ve really enjoyed getting to know the customers that we’ve helped,” said Troy. “Everyone has a different reason for wanting their junk removed and we help them all.” Appliances, mattresses, carpet, tires, printers, yard debris, garbage, furniture, TVs, computers – whatever it is that has taken over your space, 1-800-GOT-JUNK? can help. WHARTON HIGH SCHOOL NEWS Wharton High School gives back with WINTERFEST

Wharton High School hosted WINTERFEST last month, giving the students a fun opportunity to spend time with young, underprivileged Elementary School kids from various areas of Tampa Bay. “I love Winterfest! Watching the little ones faces when they see Santa or seeing how happy they are to play the little games we set up for them make me so happy! I’m really proud of our school and all the students who participate in this fun event!” - Christina, Senior at Wharton High Children started showing up by the busload at Wharton High, eager to play games and visit Santa Claus! As they started coming off the bus, they all shared one thing in common; they were smiling from ear to ear! It was extremely endearing and heart warming to watch them be escorted in by the eager Wharton students. I have to be honest, Carla and I were both surprised at how well behaved all the young students were and even more surprised by how much fun the High School students were having playing with them and taking pictures.

12 JANUARY 2018

In a world of Social Media, it’s easy to be distracted by how much negativity there is out there, especially in regard to the younger generations. It truly was something special to be able to witness Wharton’s Winterfest for ourselves and that’s why we wanted to share our experience with all of our readers. My Wife and I were truly impressed by the Wharton students. Sure, Winterfest got them out of their normal class schedule, but these kids clearly enjoyed spending time with the Elementary School children and brightening up their day. The Elementary Schoolers were enjoying their time with the “big kids” and it really warmed our hearts to see a room full of happy and thankful children. This was definitely an event that taught us a lesson about gratitude during the Holidays. Winterfest reminded us to open up our hearts to those who need it most. Wharton High School Winterfest 2017 was definitely a success, and I am sure it will continue to be a joyful occasion in the years to come.

Bob The Computer Guy & Associates, INC. “Technology With a Human Touch” Most of us depend on computers and other IT devices every day. Occasionally these devices act quirky, slow down or completely breakdown. When this happens we need someone to quickly help us get back up and running. Someone to give us reliable and courteous service; someone who will explain the problem without confusing “technical jargon.” Most of all, we need someone we can trust who will give us an honest assessment of our situation and charge a fair price to fix it.

“I understand how stressful it is when the technology our

14 JANUARY 2018

customers rely on does not work,” said Bob Dalles, president of Bob The Computer Guy & Associates, Inc., a full-service computer and IT company dedicated to providing you with only the finest Computer and Information Technology Services available. “I recognize the additional stress and inconvenience of having to disconnect the computer (or other device), drag it into a repair shop, and then wait days or weeks to get it back. We make our customers’ repair process effortless because we come to their location and perform our computer repairs on-site. It’s a major convenience

that our customers love. They schedule a time for us to come to their home or office, and when we leave their problem is solved and their computers are

fixed.” Dalles has been involved with computers since the late 1970s. In 1995 he started his

For Advertising Info 813-928-6124 I info@nnlflorida.com or visit nnlflorida.com

own computer business. In addition, he is approaching his tenth year as a Computer and Information Technology Instructor for a well-known Technical College. He also writes a regular technology column entitled “Tech Talk” where he shares information from his decades of experience working with technology. “I am pleased that I have received very positive feedback on the column and am glad it serves the readers well,” said Dalles. Dalles’s company serves hundreds of customers in the Tampa Bay area. Many are businesses but the rest are home users. “We especially enjoy working with individuals in their homes,” Dalles said. “They need tech help too, and are not always sure where to find service performed by professionally certified technicians who they can trust. I feel that everyone needs and deserves access to professional quality computer help, but they don’t always know where to find it. It’s not uncommon for

us to hear new customers tell us that they did not even know companies like ours existed; and that they’re so glad they found us.” “We treat every customer like a friend and every computer as if it were our own,” said Dalles, “I take great pride in the high level of service my company provides. I personally hand pick each Associate-Technician to make sure that they not only know their craft, but also provide top-notch customer service. I want my customers happy and extremely satisfied. I won’t settle for less.” “One of the additional features that our customers appreciate is the flexibility in scheduling your appointment,” says Dalles. “We’re not just a 9am to 5pm operation. One of the great benefits of working with us is that you and the Associate-Technician set your appointment for a time that works best for you; day or night, weekday or weekend. You are in control.”

Associate-Technician Christian, is very popular with senior citizens. “There are a lot of tech savvy seniors who rely on their computers every day. Some have commented to me that they really value the way Christian takes his time to explain the repair to them, one customer even said she loves him,” Dalles said. “A unique service I have offered for many years is a Pre-Purchase Consultation,” says Dalles. “Let’s say that you are looking to purchase a new laptop computer. The technical information describing the computer in a store’s website or newspaper ad can be very confusing. Many buyers can easily become overwhelmed by the different choices and prices offered by computer manufacturers. More often than not, they ask a friend or rely on the recommendation of a sales person, or many times just buy what’s on sale. The benefit of our Pre-Purchase Consultation allows us to meet with you in person, assess your needs, and help you make the purchase decision that best suits your situation. I want to help the customer make an informed decision before they spend their hard-earned money. For example, one of the most common issues we’ve run across is that a person buys a new computer. While they are setting it up they find out that the new software that runs the computer will not work with a printer they have owned for years. Now they have a brand new computer, but it won’t work with their existing printer or scanner or some other device they need to use. I often see this happen with certain software programs too. Now the customer not only has to buy a new printer, but may also need to upgrade some computer software and they find themselves spending much more money than they had originally planned. Our Pre-Purchase Consultation helps buyers avoid costly pitfalls and unwelcome surprises. We can sit down with customers and browse websites with them to find the best fit. I have

For Advertising Info 813-928-6124 I info@nnlflorida.com or visit nnlflorida.com

even met customers at stores and helped them with buying decisions. Providing a potential buyer with the information they need saves them time, money and a ton of stress. Come on, buying a new piece of technology shouldn’t be a nightmare, it should be a fun and exciting experience!” “I’ve recently introduced a new service where we will dispose of your old computer safely and securely,” says Dalles. “You just can’t throw away computers into the regular trash. There are laws that dictate the proper disposal of substances found in computer components. Plus, you want to make sure that your computer’s hard drive data files are completely purged to protect your privacy which helps minimize potential identity theft. We can make this process easier for you. We will pick up your computer, then once the data has been safely removed, your computer will be disposed of in a secure and environmentally safe manner. We pride ourselves on customer convenience and creating personal relationships with our customers. We want to help our customers in all aspects of their technological life from setting up their systems to disposing of them,” Dalles said. Bob The Computer Guy & Associates, Inc. is an entirely mobile computer services company. In addition to on-site troubleshooting and repairs, they offer setting up networks, printers, scanners, new computers and other tech devices; virus, spyware and other malware removal; securing your computer and network; transferring data between devices; system and data backups; personal tutoring; and more! Whatever your needs, no job is too small. For honest, reliable service performed by professionally certified technicians at a fair price then you want Bob The Computer Guy & Associates, Inc.

You Had Me at Cannoli! Come on out to LIADO’s 14th Annual San Gennaro Festa on February 17th & 18th! By Julie Kanehl Let’s be honest here, it’s all about the food. I’m not talking about just any food; I’m talking about Italian food. LIADO’s San Gennaro Festa is jam packed with all of the wonderful Italian delights that you know, love and long for. Want to enjoy all of those favorites in one place? Then it’s safe to say that you should probably mark your calendar for LIADO’s 14th Annual San Gennaro Festa. Your first stop will want to be at LIADO’s La Cucina, where you’ll enjoy olives, cheese, bread, cannoli, pizzelle and wine. But don’t stop there. You won’t want to miss the meatballs made with love by the ladies of LIADO, zeppole, and other mouthwatering Italian creations! This delicious event, centered on Italian heritage, is part street fair with vendors to delight your every shopping whim, part culinary treat, and part dance party! Of course, they’ll let you in, even if you can’t dance the Tarantella! Guests can expect to enjoy live music all weekend with entertainment by amazing bands including The Black Honkeys on Saturday night, which has quite a local following, and Joey Dee and the Starliters of “ Peppermint Twist” fame on Sunday night.

Dance, Sing & Eat Italian-Style! It’s Festa Time!

Held on Saturday and Sunday, the 18th and 19th of February at the Safety Harbor Waterfront Park, LIADO’s San Gennaro Festa is a hearty nod to the Feast of San Gennaro, which brings over a million people to New York’s Little Italy each year. The entire Festa centers around San Gennaro, the patron saint of Naples, Italy who was martyred for his faith. Italians who first came to this country, gathered together to celebrate, pray, and party in his name. And that celebration continues every year in many corners of the world. Luckily for us, we can simply join the Italians and Italian-enthusiasts from all over the world to take part in the festivities and support a few great causes at the same time. More than just food that is delicioso, if that’s even possible, LIADO’s San Gennaro Festa is a charitable event produced and hosted by LIADO, The Italian-American Women of Today. 100% of net proceeds benefit the LIADO Scholarship Program and local charities such as The Alzheimer’s Association of Florida (Gulf Coast Chapter), Children’s Cancer Center, One Voice Foundation (Children’s Cancer Research Group at USF), Autism Speaks and many others. To date, LIADO has awarded $154,000 to deserving students of Italian descent who are dedicated to furthering their education. In addition to the delectable food and the upbeat entertainment, the San Gennaro Festa will offer a museum that features highlights from Italian heritage, information about supporting and joining LIADO, and the opportunity to meet some of the amazing ladies who have worked so hard to put this exciting event together. So, who is this amazing organization that organizes a street fair that would make a saint proud? LIADO, The Italian-American Women of Today (Le Italo-Americane di Oggi), is a local nonprofit 501(c) 3 group of women who have a simple but powerful goal to preserve the Italian heritage and to pass it down to the younger generations, while giving charitably to the community. Of course, they have a whole lot of fun in the meantime. When they aren’t

16 JANUARY 2018

planning a Festa and cooking for thousands, they share recipes, camaraderie, friendship, and a love of the cultural and family history that binds them all together.

Become a Part of the Excitement, the Tradition and the Community by Joining LIADO!

LIADO, which began in 1993 with just a few members, is the only 100-percent Italian women’s organization of its kind in Florida. Offering two meeting places to accommodate its members, one in Safety Harbor and the other in New Port Richey, LIADO balances fun and friendship with a clear focus on education and cultural preservation. Meeting monthly to discuss a variety of topics that range from cooking demonstrations, to genealogy research, and the viewing of historical documentaries, when you join LIADO, you’ll be welcomed like family. If you’re an Italian-American who would love to know more about your culture, and make a few dozen friends at the same time, join LIADO, for the women there do far more than create a Festa, they share their hearts of gold with the community. In the meantime, make your plans now to come to LIADO’S San Gennaro Festa on February 17th and 18th in Safety Harbor! Cash admission is only $6 per person, and children 12 and under are free! Don’t forget to bring some cash for the cannoli, because it’s time to party Italian-style! The 14th Annual San Gennaro Festa will be held on Saturday, February 17th from 12-10 p.m., and Sunday February 18th from 12-7 p.m. at the Safety Harbor Waterfront Park, at 110 Veterans Memorial Lane. Children 12 and under are free, and tickets for adults are just $6. All for a great cause, LIADO’s San Gennaro Festa will be held rain or shine!
