FROM THE PUBLISHER MATT SELBY It’s not often I write the editorial. My Wife Carla is our Editor and does an amazing job engaging with our readers in all seven of our Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles editions peppered across Tampa Bay. It seems like everywhere we go, a reader recognizes her and compliments her on the job she’s doing. Her editorials tend to go deep. They resonate with the people of our community in ways I never imagined. Many of our readers even share a similar life story with Carla. I’m very thankful for her, and in the spirit of Thanksgiving, November’s most notable holiday, I wanted to use this space to talk a little about her. I don’t think very many of us actually spend Thanksgiving day giving thanks for the blessing of last years’ harvest like the holiday originally started out signifying. Although, if you’re like my Mom and have a live hydroponic garden growing in your house, you might. Anyway, back to Carla. We’re talking about a young woman who immigrated to this country with limited knowledge of the English Language at the age of 15. Many of you may share a similar background, and even if it wasn’t you personally who immigrated here, your

parents, or grandparents most likely did. Probably not knowing the English language too well. Carla grew up in Venezuela; a country once known for being the richest democracy in all of South America, now on the brink of collapse due to an economic crisis under a disastrous dictatorship. As a young girl she learned to speak Spanish, then Italian and finally English. I know what you’re thinking and you’re right; I can’t win an argument in three languages, lucky me! To be honest, in almost 3 years we’ve hardly had a disagreement. I’ll admit, she is right most of the time. “Happy wife, happy life” and all that. I’m picking up the Spanish language slowly, but after 30 years of only hearing and speaking English in my household, it’s not easy. I have a newfound respect for everyone who came to this country and learned our native language at any age, but especially in adulthood. Carla didn’t just learn the English language. She earned an impressive education. She first graduated with her Bachelors from the University of Tampa, and later a Masters in Education with a concentration in Instructional Technology and a minor in web design. This may be why

she’s always right. I’ll be the first to tell you, she’s smarter than I’ll ever be, and I’m okay with that. Sometimes her “accent” comes through in her editorial pieces, and that’s by design. I don’t try and fix it. Her true voice comes out in so much of her writing, hitting our readers “right in the feels” as some would say. We receive countless E-mails from readers on a weekly basis and Carla loves to interact with everyone. They become fun penpals I guess you could say. Both Carla and I are very thankful for the constructive criticism and support we’ve received through the years. I can’t tell you enough how thankful we are for all of our readers. It’s because of your support we’re able to do what we love. Thank you for welcoming us into your homes each and every month and for supporting the great local businesses we feature. Carla truly enjoys keeping you up to date with what’s going on in the community. We really appreciate when you take the time to send us feedback and content as well. Keep a lookout for Carla’s next editorial in December! I know she will have something good for you!

Whether you want a traditional Philly, served like true

6 NOVEMBER 2018

Philadelphians eat them, or you want it made your own peculiar way, the quality is never lacking. Owners Mike and Debbie Natoli truly enjoy providing great food and service to their neighbors. Mike takes his cooking skills seriously, bringing original flavor and flair to his restaurant. He cooks what he loves and has visited the awardwinning cheesesteak eateries in Philly many times to compare his to theirs. Mike and Debbie provide the real deal, a bona fide cheesesteak just like the Philly masters serve it. The perfect Philly cheesesteak starts with a soft, delicious roll, and as any cheesesteak-lover knows, the roll is as important as the filling. The original Philly cheesesteak, as served in Philly, is either with or without onions. I like mine with mushrooms, peppers and onions. Mike says this is THE FLORIDA, so I guess it makes sense that it’s this Florida girl’s favorite! Add marinara sauce to The Florida and it’s THE SLOPPY. Other choices include: CHICKEN CHEESESTEAK, PIZZA CHEESESTEAK, and PEPPERONI PIZZA CHEESESTEAK. You can ask for extra cheese or sauce, extra meat, or to add bacon, salami or pepperoni. Choose from three kinds of cheese. Mike says most customers prefer white American, but provolone is available and Cheese Whiz for South Philly fans. Optional items you can add: mushrooms, hot peppers, green bell peppers, banana peppers, sweet_ peppers, lettuce, tomato._ So Much More to Explore! “People love our cheesesteaks so much that they rarely try anything else, but we have so many delicious choices on our menu,” says Mike. “I always try to encourage our regulars to try something new, but that is a hard battle to win once they have tasted our Philly!”_

Filling out the menu are a delicious variety of COLD HOAGIES (Italian, Ham & cheese, salami & cheese, turkey & cheese), HOT SANDWICHES (Meatball parmesan, grilled chicken, chicken parmesan, sausage & peppers, sausage & peppers parmesan, breaded fried chicken, breaded fried fish), and a delicious fresh veggie sub. CLUBS include: BLT sandwich, BLT club, turkey club, or ham club. Other favorites are the bone-in wings, boneless wings, burgers, fish & chips and breaded fried shrimp. In addition to the wings, hand-cut fries and fried shrimp, there are many yummy SIDE

ORDERS: whole deli pickle (can’t you feel that crisp crunch?), onion rings, fried mushrooms, mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, cordon bleu poppers, jalapeno poppers – hungry yet? – You can get a side salad, fried okra, macaroni & cheese bites, or a “tastykake.” One of my favorite treats at Best of Philly Cheesesteak House has to be what I call the “gone-in-a-minute” handcut fries. They are a perfect side for any club sandwich or burger, or just on their own with a side of gravy or hot cheese. Yes, gravy for your French fries is the ultimate comfort food!

Pair those fries with any one of the delicious burgers, hot sandwiches, cold subs or even a variety of appetizers and you’ve got yourself the perfect meal!_ “You really can’t beat our burgers either,” says Mike. “They are cut in half, stuffed in a soft amoroso roll and piled high with your favorite toppings!” BURGERS on the menu include old favorites hamburger and cheeseburger, but there also is a pizza burger, mushroom burger, bacon burger, sloppy burger, a loose meat burger and the newest edition, the “cheese lovers cheeseburger!” This new creation brought to you by Mike is filled with a delicious blend of White American, Provolone and Mozzarella Cheese melted to a gooey perfection! You can also get the cheesesteak version! I’ve had both and they are absolutely incredible! It’s my new favorite next to the Florida! KIDS MENU items include a 4- inch cheesesteak, chicken fingers, grilled cheese, cheeseburger, hot dog and alltime-favorite macaroni & cheese bites. All kids’ meals come with kids’ fries or chips and Oreo cookies! Save Money with Cash Only Specials! Cash Only Specials are available weekly and many change daily, so depending on when you order, there may be different Cash Only Specials than the ones mentioned here in this article. Currently, the Cash Only Specials include: 12” cheesesteak and a 6” cheesesteak (with or without onions) One large order of fries and 2 drinks for only $15.99 + tax OR Two 6” cheesesteaks (with or without onions) One large order of fries and 2 drinks for only $12.99 + tax Why Customers Rate Best of Philly Cheesesteak House Number One! “I’m no local but every time I visit I find myself eating here. I am always greeted with exceptional service and world-

class cheese steaks. Arguably better than cheesesteaks I’ve had in Philly! Keep up the great quality and I look forward to my next visit!” - Larry Vogel Jen Simon says, “BEST, BEST cheesesteaks aside from Philly itself! It’s like a little piece of home. I love coming here and getting to enjoy one of Mike’s originals! Always a pleasure and excellent & fast service, thank you!” “I am a navy wife and lived in a lot of places, but this is the Best Philly Cheesesteak I have ever had!! The place was clean, workers where so nice!! The sides are 5 star too. You must try!!” – Lisa Rognlin Mike and Debbie are extremely happy with their business and give all the thanks to their awesome customers both old and new. Mike says, “We are so lucky to have such nice, wonderful customers. We love to catch up with each other, share laughs and have great conversation while I’m working behind the grill. I feel like the bartender of cheesesteaks because I have real, honest relationships with my guests. They have become my friends!” Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 11:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday. Don’t forget to order game day food for Saturday college football parties! “It’s Nice to Be Nice to Nice People” John Erb’s Auto, Truck and RV Service Center By Tom Bostock When John Erb borrowed the saying “it’s nice to be nice to nice people” to honor his late friend, Patrick Keenan, it became more than just a saying to him; it became his way of doing business at John Erb’s Auto, Truck and RV Service Center. A contradiction in terms, John says, “we care about people. I hate cars; I love people!” Located on what John calls his “campus” at 16133 N. Dale Mabry, just across the street from Gaither High School, John’s peoplecentered automotive service business consists of a 5700 square foot main building that is always bulging at the seams with loyal customers’ cars, trucks, vans and recreational vehicles. Another 3400 square foot oil change facility houses his “Oil Frog” oil change operation. It is located behind the main service center. It is normal to see a high-performance Mercedes E320 Bluetech, sitting in John’s crowded customer parking lot next to a Lincoln Navigator which, in turn, is parked by a Suzuki economy car, each waiting its turn for

expert service by one of John’s experienced, certified mechanics. John credits his staff for the continued success of his operations. He made special mention of 4 of his employees, Bill Casey,

Henry Strapp, Hector Corneil and Warren Boswell. John attributes a Craigslist ad for securing his chief mechanic, Bill Casey, about 12 years ago. Henry Strapp, the son of beloved former assistant principal of Gaither

High School, is his general manager. When I asked John if he was a “jack of all trades,” he corrected me saying that he was a “master of all trades.” John’s added that Assistant Manager Hector is his bi-lingual “super, duper, people person.” The 4th employee, Warren Boswell, is an especially interesting story. A service consultant for John for a little more than a year now, Warren is a former, medically-retired Tampa police officer who used to have his vehicle serviced by John’s company. Warren was especially complimentary of the work ethics at Erbs. He said that the reason that he went to work for John was both ”the honesty” and “family feeling” that he has experienced at John’s company. He stressed that they did the right thing and stood behind their work. If it has to do with an engine or mechanical repair, John’s staff as well as himself, also a certified master auto technician, are well equipped to handle the job, regardless of the size or complexity. John noted that

Erb’s is becoming known as the diagnostic service destination for problem repairs. ”John says, “If you have a problem, I am the mechanic you need.” If it can be fixed, John and his 14 employees can fix it. That isn’t surprising, since John began helping his Dad at his service station, putting air in tires when he was still in elementary school; by the time he was 12, John was already changing automobile tires. At 21, he was a fully certified mechanic. Originally wanting to be either a doctor or a cop, John was 25 before he accepted his career path. From Plainview on Long Island, New York, John noted that coming to Florida was an eye-opening experience. He had heard about prejudice, but it wasn’t until his Dad’s Gulf gasoline service station on the corner of Kennedy and Dale Mabry in Tampa, opened with a men’s room, a lady’s room and a “black” restroom, that he experienced it, first hand. After remarking about how some people will always find something

to hate, John proudly announced, “this is a hate-free zone!” All of the products and services provided at John Erb’s Auto, Truck and RV Center are the highest quality, state-of-theart available. Although he is a Goodyear Tire distributor, he is still an independent dealer, able to provide his customers with any brand of tire that they want. “I can get Michelin’s if they want them,” John says. Preventative measures, like “chemical tune up,” and “interim brake service,” staples of John’s business, are the result of his mechanical foresight and desire to help his customers extend the life of their vehicles. The chemical tune up involves proactively cleaning both the car’s full injection and air intake systems before a problem arises. If properly flushed with Valvoline Synthetic Brake Fluid, there is even a 30,000-mile warranty. With brakes lasting longer than ever, their interim brake service program lubricates a car’s brake caliper’s pin, which, properly oiled, prevents

For Advertising Info 813-928-6124 I info@nnlflorida.com or visit tbnewsandlifestyles.com

premature brake failure. These are “the ounce of prevention that prevents the pound of cure” remedies that John’s staff employ to keep customer cars running for years to come. A father of 5 and grandfather of 13, John is a strong member of his local community, sponsoring this year’s championship Lutz softball team, “Toxic.” He has also sponsored adopt-a-school programs but is especially proud of his membership in the Owls Club, an organization, as John says, for “older, wiser, lively seniors in Northdale.” Besides being their resident automotive expert, he brings up to 80 pounds of delicious barbecued beef, pulled pork, succulent chicken and tasty coleslaw with its own special cilantro tang to some of their functions. If it clunks, bumps, or just needs an oil change, John Erb’s Auto, Truck and RV Service Center is the place to go. First of Its Kind Natural Cemetery Celebrates Two Years as New Welcome Center Breaks Ground Two years ago, the gates opened at Heartwood Preserve Conservation Cemetery, welcoming families who have lost a loved one, or those who simply enjoy the serenity of Florida’s woods, to walk its trails, find peace and community, and maybe select a final resting place. Heartwood Preserve is the first in the Tampa Bay region to design a conservation cemetery within a nature preserve. We conserve and permanently protect the endangered natural habitats found here by providing environmentally-friendly, green burial options. There are fewer than a dozen such conservation burial grounds in the entire United States, though this burial practice has been around for over 3500 years. The body is laid to rest directly in the grave, with no embalming, no concrete vault, no metal casket;

10 NOVEMBER 2018

only a pine box casket or shroud. Cremated remains, or ‘ashes’, may also be buried. A portion of the burial fee goes toward the permanent protection of the natural ecosystem. Heartwood is made up of both longleaf pine flatwoods and cypress wetlands. Because it borders the 18,000-acre Starkey Wilderness Park, the ecological value extends far beyond its own size. Yet it is easily accessible to the whole of the Tampa Bay area, in the booming suburban community of Trinity, in west Pasco County. Heartwood has regular activities that embrace the life of the nature preserve: monthly Talk & Tours, meditation walks, birding, walking trails. Families become a part of the Heartwood community, and a part of the forest after they die. What other

place do you know has this? This unique 41-acre nature preserve and conservation cemetery is located at 4100 Starkey Blvd. Trinity, FL 34655. Heartwood Preserve will host its second annual birthday open house on Saturday, The ground breaking ceremony took place on November 3, in conjunction with

their birthday party. There was a Ground Breaking Ceremony for the construction of Heartwood Preserve’s Welcome Center. Designed by Sol Design Studio and constructed by ABI, Inc., this energy efficient building will house its offices, reception area and gathering space for celebrations of life and other small events.

Tech Talk with Bob: STOP Before Repairing Your PC By Bob Dalles

Imagine this. The computer you bought from that big box store seven months ago no longer works. No problem, it’s still under warranty. You call the manufacturer and get a return authorization from them. You pack and ship your computer to them. Today, two months later, you are finally getting it back from the manufacturer and cannot wait to turn it on. You turn it on and it boots right up into the desktop. You notice that your desktop doesn’t look the same way you had it before you sent it for repair. Upon further investigation you realize that some programs are missing, you cannot access your printer, and most importantly, all your pictures, videos, music and

12 NOVEMBER 2018

other data is nowhere to be found. Your computer works, but your personal stuff is gone. You call the manufacturer to ask about your data. Suddenly you find out that the only obligation they had to you under the warranty is that they would repair or replace your computer to the way it was the day you brought it home from the store and took it out of the box. The manufacturer has no liability when it comes to your data. You learn the hard way that your missing programs, data, etc. are your problem. Many people find themselves in this predicament every day. Fortunately, you won’t. Computers are viewed by many as being no different as they see coffee makers or any other electronic appliance. Electronic coffee makers use hardware and some

type of software to make them function. However, the software that runs your coffee maker is not as sophisticated as the software that runs your computer. People typically do not differentiate between the hardware and software aspects

of a computer system. The truth is, where the software in your coffee maker never changes, the software in your computer is constantly changing. Especially your data files as you add and delete your music, pictures and other

personal documents. All this information is stored on your computer’s hard disk drive (HDD). Your HDD stores all computer software information including your personal and unique computer information. This unique information is created over time as you use your computer system by adding programs, printers, data, etc. All these changes alter the contents of your HDD. When you send your computer to the manufacturer for repair, your HDD may be physically replaced by having a new HDD installed into your computer or logically replaced by having all the information on the HDD erased and then rewritten with the information the HDD had on it when your computer was new out of the box. Think of it this way. If you ever had the battery in your car replaced, the first thing you probably learned when you

got back into your car is that all your radio preset stations have been wiped out due to the battery being disconnected. The auto repair shop’s responsibility is not to restore your radio presets but to replace your car’s battery with a working one. You’ll just have to reprogram those preset stations all over again. The same is true of your computer. Important information can be lost during the repair. If it is your personal data, like rare photos, it may be impossible to replace. It is always your responsibility to make sure you have what you need to restore the programs and data you have added to your computer since you bought it. But no one ever tells you this until it is too late. So how do you minimize your data loss when you need your computer system repaired? The first thing you do is make certain that all

your personal data is backed up. This can be difficult if your computer will not turn on. Even if your computer will not turn on, it may still be possible that your data can be extracted from the HDD before you send your computer off for repair. If you are not familiar with how to get your data backed up, contact a professional computer technician for help. The next thing you will need are the installation disk and/or files for any software you added to the computer after you bought it. Make sure you have all of your installation media and product keys so these items can be reinstalled with as little trouble as possible. A list of your email and website user names and passwords are also going to need to be reentered the first time you try to access any of the secured websites you visit. If you are not sure if you have everything you need

to recover all of the additions you made to your computer since you bought it, contact a professional computer technician to help you get all your ducks in a row. An hour or two of prevention will save you a lot of money and grief when your time comes to get your computer repaired. Especially if you rely on your computer for managing your business or investments. Have a tech question? Email it to TechTalk-TBNL@ BobTheComputerGuy.NET. Questions will be selected by the popularity of a topic and answered in this column. Women get facility for long-term substance dependency rehabilitation. The Salvation Army builds residence for 30 women. Since 1950, The Salvation Army Tampa Adult Rehabilitation Center has been providing a 6-12 month residential program to men who want to solve their alcohol and drug problems. Now, with the construction of a separate residence, the center will be able to also offer its 12-step, faith-based, long-term rehabilitation program to women. The residence will contain ten bedrooms; each bedroom houses three women. The facility will include an intake office, library/two classrooms, offices/conference room, kitchen, dining room, great room, recreation room, fitness room, laundry/hair cutting station, and two resident managers’ rooms. The center will also have a new chapel, seating 250 persons for both the men and women beneficiaries, their families and friends, and the public. “At the end of this year, the ARC will be able to help women in their own safe environment. Just like the rest of our country, Tampa Bay is having to find solutions to the opioid crisis and sex trafficking. Now The Salvation Army can provide hope to women

in our community who want to conquer these terrifying problems,” said Administrator Major John Reed. If you want to be involved with the new women’s program, please contact katherine. reed@uss.salvationarmy.org or 813-972-0471 ext. 59070. The Salvation Army Tampa Adult Rehabilitation Center is looking for women sponsors, a women’s committee dealing with recovery, and a special projects committee. To support its ongoing operations, please donate your clothes and other unwanted items by scheduling a free truck pickup; call 1-800-SA-TRUCK (1-800-728-7825) or visit SATRUCK.ORG. About The Salvation Army Tampa Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) The Salvation Army has been helping men and women overcome substance afflictions without discrimination for more than 100 years. It is one of the largest providers of residential drug and alcohol programs in the United States. The ARC provides spiritual, social and

emotional assistance for both 30 women and 163 men who have lost the ability to cope and provide for themselves. The center offers residential housing, work, classes, and group and individual therapy, all in a clean, wholesome environment. The physical and spiritual care that program participants receive prepares them to re-enter society and return to gainful employment. Many are reunited with their families and resume a normal life. The ARC is funded through the donations of unwanted but useable items (e.g., clothes, furniture and automobiles) so program participants do not have any out-of-pocket costs while they stay for up to one full year. By not having financial burdens, they have the privilege to devote all their time and energy to repairing their lives. To support this vital community service, please schedule a free truck pickup of your tax-deductible donations. Call 1-800-SA-TRUCK (1-800-728-7825) or visit SATRUCK.ORG.

A Different Kind of Dental Practice: The Dentofacial and Cosmetic Surgery Institute

By Tom Bostock

When was the last time you read Internet captions like “Best there is” and “Good doctor” associated with a dental practice or terms like “caring” and “family atmosphere?” These accolades are justly directed at Dr. Michael Hashemian, the owner and founder of the Dentofacial and Cosmetic Surgery Institute, serving patients from across the United States, “from as far away” Dr. Hashemian said, “as Rhode Island.” Let’s see what just a few of his satisfied patients had to say about him: “I had a life-threatening infection and this doctor took good care of me all the way from the first office visit to the hospital and post-operative care. If it was not for his talent and his care, I would not have been alive today. Very appreciative of his knowledge and dedication.

22 NOVEMBER 2018

I would always recommend Dr. Hashemian to anyone who needs anything done to their mouth, or face.” A second patient wrote: “I have known Dr. Hashemian for several years and find him to be direct and professional. Dr. Hashemian is a respected oral surgeon, talented and well-known lecturer. I have been a patient of his and have been to his seminars as well. He also teaches other dentists about implants and a variety of subjects in dentistry and surgery. Among his peers, he is a head and shoulder above the crowd in terms of knowledge and expertise. He is a sort of rock star in his field. If you have dental concerns and want to have an easy-to-understand answer, want the most experienced clinician who understands all the issues related to the mouth and face, then Dr. Hashemian is your guy.”

Yet, a third patient echoed his praise: “I have had two dental implants done by Dr. Hashemian to replace my missing teeth. I was referred to him by my good friend who had been to his office before. What I liked about Dr. Hashemian was that he really took his time with me. When my implants were done, he made sure to send me to a good

dentist to have my crown done. I think his bedside manner was outstanding.” Originally from Iran, Dr. Hashemian said that he had always had an interest in medicine. He even obtained an electrical engineering degree at the University of Florida, before embarking on his medical and dental training and residency

there over the ensuing 14 years, thinking that he could somehow incorporate his engineering training into his future practice. Board certified in his field, Dr. Hashemian is acknowledged as one of the premier maxillofacial surgeons. He is often referred cases too difficult for some of

his colleagues to handle. Dr. Hashemian said that he has already performed more than 36,000 procedures in his practice. As Dr. Hashemian notes, his passion is “caring for the people of the Tampa Bay area in Citrus, Hernando, Pasco and Hillsborough.” This compassion,

commitment and willingness to give back to his community is especially evident in his personal involvement in several community charity outreach functions. Dr. Hashemian has been participating in Mission of Mercy through the Florida Dental Association. This is an event that takes place once a year, the organization provides free dental services for the less fortunate. Working from 5:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Dr. Hashemian and 100 of his colleagues recently helped more than 2,000 patients, over a 2-day period, in Ft. Myers, this year alone. Next year, the event will be held at an Orlando high school. Dr. Hashemian is planning on participating. Dr. Hashemian is also the director of The Dentofacial Study Club, an educational program that was born from his practice and through which dental and medical education is provided for the dental community. The education is provided to these doctors thru educational seminars, hands-on training and observation of live surgeries. Additionally, free dental implant educational seminars are provided for the public every month by Dr. Hashemian. People can simply call the office to sign up for their free seminar in their area at any time. Married and a father of two, a 16-year old daughter and 13-year old son, Dr. Hashemian is justly proud of his accomplishments. According to his website, “He was one of the first few surgeons in Florida who started the CTguided surgery for placement of dental implants,” making their placement “more accurate and predictable.” Dr. Hashemian said that this cutting-edge, threedimensional technology provides better placement of implants for his patients. He also offers the “Teeth-InAn-Day” program for qualified patients. With this program, the patient with some bad teeth or without any teeth in one arch could come to the office, to receive the implant supported teeth all in one day. That has been truly a lifestyle changing for many of our

“More Space Place”-

continued from page 1

More Space Place has attractive, affordable and functional solutions that will help you get organized and create more space within your home without the hassle of a home re-model, a costly addition or an outside storage unit. More Space Place’s array of products include custom closets, home office furniture and organizational systems, Murphy wall beds, garage systems and kitchen organization solutions. Starting off as a single retail location in the early 1980’s, More Space Place has grown to become a nationally recognized and trusted company that continues to expand due to their high level of attentive customer service and quality organizational products. Today, the company has over 28 nationwide stores that are locally owned and operated by community members. Clark Williams and Bob Schmidt are the owners of the three Tampa Bay area showrooms and Design Centers, located in Palm Harbor on US 19 N., St Petersburg on Gandy Blvd. and Lutz on State Rd. 54. “We have seen some very innovative designs created when a client comes in with an idea and our designers work with them to make it a reality,” says Williams. “It makes the business both fun and exciting.” Williams recalls that 20 years ago there were very limited choices of furniture and closet solutions and very few options for finishes and materials. “More Space Place now proudly offers the largest selection of wall bed styles available, and in addition, a massive line of complimenting space saving and organizational furniture. In addition, we are one of the only companies offering the

‘Invisa-line’ boring system. This new technology makes the adjustment holes in the furniture for shelf adjustment almost 60% smaller than what others offer,” says Williams. Murphy Beds Can Make Dual Purpose Rooms As America’s #1 Murphy bed retailer, the professional designers at More Space Place can assist you in transforming a spare room or office into a comfortable guest room with a fantastic, durable and high quality wall bed. Today’s wall beds provide the same comfort as standard beds and also have the choices of firm to extra plush mattresses. “We recently purchased a new model home and we wanted to designate one room as a guest bedroom/office. My husband recommended a Murphy bed to save on space. I must admit I was dead-set against it relying solely on my very dated recollection of no style, no comfort and something my parents would have considered,” says recent customer Karen Q. “Luckily for me, my husband, A.K.A ‘Mr. Research,’ did all the legwork and visited one of the More Space Place showrooms. Quality, style, comfort and option-upon-option are the orders of the day and I am happy to admit I was dead wrong. The people at More Space Place went beyond in customer service, suggestions and execution. Their installers were amazing and we are 100% satisfied. The guest room/office looks spectacular and I get compliments on it on a regular basis!” I must say, after reading so many incredible reviews and seeing their showroom, I am personally considering adding one of these Murphy beds to my own small home office, because of those “unexpected visitors” that end up crashing on my brand new, light colored

couches. I will definitely keep you updated on my own Murphy bed in a follow up story. Custom Closet Systems Cut Through the Clutter Do not just daydream about your ideal closet! The local experts at More Space Place can build it for you. Their closet makeovers can consist of wall-hung closet systems, floor-based closet systems, or even a combination of both. Custom closet systems from More Space Place are designed with your wardrobe in mind, so you will not continue to waste another minute frantically searching for your favorite shoes, shirts, or belt, just to fail. Your new

closet would be organized to make room for all the clothes and accessories you already have, with ample space for the new must-haves. More Space Place professional designers will help you create your design in your finish choice to make a one-of-a-kind highly functional closet to fit your needs. One that will save you time and money. Recent and very happy client, Nicole B. says, “Thank you More Space Place for my custom closets. I walked in just to see what the whole process would be like and everything went so smooth. I wanted someone to be able to look at my closets with all my stuff and tell me what I would need. That is exactly what

old clothes racks and patched the holes. In addition, he was very considerate of my home; he laid down blankets to protect my floors. I could not be happier with this whole experience and would recommend More Space Place to everyone! In the end, I also received two follow up calls to make sure everything was in order. Now THAT’S customer service.”

More Space Place did AND had some other helpful ideas. In the process, they came out to my house, measured and then sent me a digital proof for approval. After I gave the ok, a few days later was the install. A professional installer came out to do the job. He did a great job. He took out the

FREE INHOME DESIGN CONSULTATIONS More Space Place offers complimentary in-home design consultations as well as three spectacular showrooms where clients can go check out the vast options of style and finishes and see the quality of their products. “When someone visits one of

our three Showroom Design Centers, they’ll find trained and experienced professionals who will introduce them to a full array of wall beds and cabinet options,” says Williams. “They will also find complete furniture collections for beautifully functional offices, media rooms, closets, garages, pantries, laundry rooms and so much more.” Selecting furniture is a very important decision, and one that requires time, energy and a lot of “touching,” yes… touching. I have personally bought a few pieces of furniture online after reading great reviews from other clients, only to be completely disappointed after receiving my product, because the quality of the materials was not what I was expecting. Having the opportunity to go into a store, to see the quality and TOUCH and FEEL what you are looking for cannot be beat. Williams says, “We believe that if people have the opportunity to see all the various options, they get a better understanding that this can be an incredible creative experience instead of just hanging some rods and shelves. This process also makes the purchasing decision easier. Since there are so many colors, finishes and materials available, seeing these in person also ensures they’ll find the best combination of styles and finishes to match the aesthetics of their home and

lifestyle.” The More Space Place creative experience is further enhanced with a three dimensional software program that allows clients to see how various furniture designs would look in their home. No more having to imagine how it would all look like once put together! Thanks to this incredible technology you can actually see how it would all fit in your space and if it matches what you had in mind. “We have found with this visual aid it is much easier for our clients and the designer to work together in order to create the perfect design that is specifically created to meet the needs and desires of the client,” says Williams. More Space Place has three convenient showrooms in the Tampa Bay area. Palm Harbor, US 19 N just north of Tampa Road (727.773.9888), and St. Petersburg on Gandy just west of the Gandy Bridge (727.507.9799) and in Lutz a few miles west of I-75 on State Road 54 (813.935.8432). offers clients that many others don’t is an actual agent as the point of contact for clients instead of an 800 number to a call center to inquire about their insurance needs. That personal touch can mean the world of difference as circumstances arise when you need to file a claim or adjust your coverage as needs change. With his agency, you’re able to get the same person on the phone each time you call who knows your story and has a professional relationship with you. Clendon is listed as a Legion of Honor Qualifier-Crystal of Excellence, Chairman’s Circle and Ambassador Travel Club Qualifier. These are awarded to agents that meet higher than average benchmarks pertaining to customer service, profitability and production.

“Servicing our customers is the best part of our job,” he explained. “Being able to sit and listen to their needs and concerns means the world to us.” Listening, he said is key to serving his customers best. “We listen and then speak, putting the client’s needs before all others.” His team determines the best coverage for each client by taking the time to have a conversation and asking pertinent questions. This, he said, is the most crucial part of this business. While many agencies offer the possibility of getting a quote in 15 minutes, how can you know that coverage is right for you? Taking the time to personalize a custom plan for each client ensures that each customer truly has the plan that’s right for them. According to Isaac Stuiso

a representative at Clendon’s office, another advantage to having one insurance company cover all your needs, you only have to save one number to call to discuss your needs or file a claim. When you combine policies with one insurer, you typically receive the best overall pricing. If you think you need to own a home to carry property insurance, think again. There are actually three very good

reasons renters should obtain insurance coverage. Renters insurance protects the contents of your home due to loss from fire, theft, etc. Jewelry, electronics, furniture and more can be covered under the plans. “Most people have more stuff than they think,” he said. Liability coverage is also important for renters as tenants can be held liable for injuries sustained to a guest while on the premises.

“The most overlooked benefit of renters insurance is loss of use coverage,” he added. These plans provide renters payment for additional living expenses such as food and lodging expenses incurred as a result of a loss. “Let’s say there was a fire and you lost $1000 worth of stuff. You still need somewhere to live and now you have to buy $1000 worth of stuff on top of this additional living expense for your new residence. And you still have six months left on your lease. Our policy covers all of the above so you don’t have to.” If auto insurance is on your mind, State Farm offers an array of plans to meet those needs as well. Their Good Driving Discount offers savings for new households that do not have any violations or at-fault accidents in the last three years. From there, you can continue to build on that

discount level through three, six and ten year Accident Free Discount plans. And it gets even better! After five years of coverage, your first at-fault accident is forgiven. Having a teen driver in the house doesn’t have to break the bank. State Farm offers several discounts to help younger drivers obtain a reasonable premium on their insurance needs. The Good Student Discount is offered to teens that maintain a 3.0 grade point average. “Good grades really do pay!” he said. For drivers under 25, the Steer Clear Discount utilizes smart phone technology to guide drivers through a course designed to make them more aware of surroundings and what to watch for when driving a car on their own. For all drivers, State Farm offers the Drive Safe and Save program. This smart phone application grades your

specific risk exposure through six areas and provides you a custom discount ranging from 1% to as high as 50% off major coverage. State Farm offers discounts in many areas of auto, home and property insurance. They can explain different ways you can quality for these discount. While there is always someone you can meet with or speak to over the phone, they also

provide a “Get a Quote” section on the website. “Whether you’d rather walk in, call in or click in, we are here to help,” Clendon said.
