Rapidly Expanding Bleakley Bavol & Denman Find New Home in North Tampa Ten years ago, attorney Robert Bleakley could hardly believe his good fortune when he acquired five acres of land at the top of Carrollwood in North Tampa, and built a 5,200-square foot high-end commercial office building that he believed would be home to The Bleakley Law Firm for the remainder of his career. Located less than a
mile from his home in Avila and less than a mile from his boys’ school, Bleakley believed he had made the final move of his career. However, space in Bleakley’s dream office got tighter when good fortune struck again. In 2011, Bleakley’s former mentor and boss, Chuck Bavol, an AV rated first class litigator, merged his firm into Bleakley’s firm. The
firm name changed to “The Bleakley Bavol Law Firm”, and Bleakley began to wonder if the firm could remain contained in his office building. When AV rated litigators Rob Grace and

Whether you want to be terrified by zombies at haunted houses, (safely) collect as much candy as possible with your little ones, impress neighbors with the best Halloween decor or show off your best costume at a local party, you’re in for a treat...or a trick! With events such as Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens, an original “Halloween (1978)” showing at the Tampa Theatre on Wednesday, October 31st and a showing of “Hocus Pocus” on Saturday, October 28th, as well as many fantastic Halloween parties and pub crawls, you will have to pick and choose which local event(s) you will enjoy the most. Even though I am Catholic, I’ve celebrated Halloween in the past and will continue to do in the future. For the longest time, I believed it was frowned upon; I felt guilty about wearing costumes and celebrating with friends. Tired about feeling remorse and being confused about the meaning of Halloween, I decided to do some major research to find out what Catholics truly believe about Halloween. For those who don’t know, Halloween is short for All Hallow’s Eve. It’s the vigil of All Saints (All Hallows) Day. All Saints Day is a Holy Day of Obligation, a major feast on the Catholic Church’s liturgical calendar. Halloween (October 31st), All Saints Day (November 1st) and All Souls Day (November 2nd) are all connnected. Together, they
are known as the “Days of the Dead,” a trim of feasts also called Allhallowtide, Hallowtide, or Hallowmas (‘Hallow’ means to honor as holy.) Hallis is the first day of Allhallowtide, the time of year when the living honor all the dead in Christ, all the saints in heaven, and the holy souls detained in purgatory, on their way to heaven. Catholics historically believed that, on these “Days of the Dead,” the veil between heaven, hell, and purgatory is the thinnest. It is also a strong reminder for the faithful of the reality of heaven and hell: the saints and the damned, demons and angels, and the holy souls suffering in purgatory. Contrary to popular belief, Halloween is actually a Catholic holiday and does not have its origins in paganism, Samhain, Celtic/ Druidic festivals or Satanism. This common misconception is modern anti-Catholic propaganda and has no basis in historical facts. The true substance of Halloween belongs to the Catholic Church. It was the English, Irish, and French immigrants who came to America and brought their variety of local Catholic customs with them: dressing up for Halloween comes from the French; Jack-o-Lanterns come from the Irish (originally carved turnips); and the English begged from door to door for “Soul Cakes,” promising to pray for the departed loved ones of those who gave them these treats, the roots of trick-or-treating. All those traditions converged
and evolved in the American melting pot to what we do today for this famous festivity. The contemporary version of Halloween that glorifies the demonic, with emphasis on violence, horror, and sensuality is definitely not traditional. It is a pulling away from a friendly and faithful celebration of this essential religious holiday. It is true that Halloween has been extremely corrupted and hyper-commercialized, just like Christmas and Easter, but that should never stop us Catholics from fully celebrating the great feasts of the Church the Catholic way, or from enjoying Halloween as a celebration of the great feast of All Saints. Halloween can truly be what you make of it! Whether or not you are Catholic doesn’t matter. This major celebration should be about following your own traditions and, of course, about having fun with your loved ones in the safest possible way. Many churches all over Tampa Bay are holding family-friendly celebrations and pot-lucks this October. I personally attend Sacred Heart in downtown Tampa, and they are holding a Fall Festival on Sunday, October 21st at their North Campus location from 11:30am to 3:30pm. There will be a climbing wall, a petting zoo, a bounce house, and more. So, plan ahead. Check with your local church and enjoy some fall fun.
Happy Halloween!

A Caring Community Member – The Medical Center FOR Trinity By Tom Bostock
Although it has taken a little over 6 ½ years, as CEO Leigh Massengill proudly characterized their transition, ”from the Medical Center ‘OF’ Trinity to the Medical Center ‘FOR’ Trinity – “a one-stop shop for all of the healthcare needs for our healthcare families,” it certainly has been worth the wait! They have been growing ever since; another two-story addition is already underway.
With its ever-expanding outreach embracing the community it serves,
Medical Center of Trinity is no longer a medical stopover for patients with special issues, but the actual interventional medical destination for that level of treatment for the residents of Pasco county and Trinity. Centrally located at 9330 State Road 54 in Trinity, Medical Center of Trinity, a part of 16-hospital group HCA, has received many quality care and service awards from within their parent company as well as National organizations. They are still the only neonatal intensive unit in Pasco County and most recently
added Maternal Fetal Medicine to their Women’s Services program. As the neighborhoods continue to grow and their health needs diversify, the center will be ready and able to meet those healthcare needs. In August of this year, the center obtained their latest surgical robot, the XI. Joining several other state-of-the-art robotic surgery tools including 2 Da Vinci robots, this latest cutting-edge technology
will allow their skilled surgeons to perform even more complicated surgeries involving, oncological (cancer related), gynecological, thoracic, general surgery and urological procedures, using minimally invasive techniques. When Medical Center of Trinity first opened, they saw a need to be able to provide cardiac services for the community. CEO
facility. Massengill noted that, from the very beginning, she felt that “we needed to have more comprehensive cardiac services for this growing community.” The result was their awardwinning cardiac center. Their newest Level ll NICU,
staffed by ALL Children’s Specialty physicians, is similarly recognized for its expertise and level of care. The center boasts more than 300 physicians with future plans to include a graduate medical education program and pediatric

SAT AND ACT IMPROVEMENT: GOOD NEWS! by Dr. Wayne Adams FALL EXAM DATES: SAT: November 3 and December 1; ACT: October 27 and December 8. GOOD NEWS FOR FLORIDIANS in the new college and university rankings from US News and World Report. UF jumped from 41 to 35, FSU from 81 to 70, USF from 140 to 124, and UCF from 171 to 165. Unfortunately, UM went from 46 to 53. AS WE MOVE CLOSER TO COLLEGE APPLICATION DEADLINES, all parents should be aware that colleges with early decision and early admission options are accepting far more of their freshman student body early, which means the number of students accepted in regular applications has plummeted. One example is Vanderbilt last year, who only left 500 freshman slots for 25,000 applicants in regular decision … 2%. MOST SCHOOLS ACCEPT SAT AND ACT SCORES THROUGH THE END OF THE FALL, but not all. Especially
14 OCTOBER 2018
with the move to Early Decision acceptances, check the website for each school you are interested in for the specifics so you are not late and therefore disqualified from further consideration. THE FIVE KEY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION are still class standing (especially from a highlyrated high school, whether public or private), GPA, SAT and/or ACT scores, quality of college application essay (or essays), and additional activities. This past year, class standing was not as important (valedictorian, salutatorian, etc.) and the importance of GPA, exam scores, application essays, and especially additional activities were elevated. If you are shooting for a “Top 25” school, these activities are special strengths and abilities proven by years of pursuit that already show how you have the potential to “change the world”. Top schools want “lopsided” students, not “well-rounded” students. THE FIRST DIFFICULTY FOR MOST FLORIDA STUDENTS BEING ADMITTED to an “ultimate dream school” is their SAT and/ or ACT scores. During my classes,
I often help my students think about “special strengths” they can develop to show skill and persistence in a field associated with interests and abilities they already have. MOST OF YOU KNOW BY NOW that my over-riding goal for my students is for them to have their best possible futures, which includes doing their best on their SAT and/or ACT Exams and
admission to a great university. As part of this, I will be happy to SEND YOU A FREE COPY OF MY NEW REPORT: Dream Colleges And Universities: Top 25 In The Country, 5 More To Consider, and Top 5 In Florida. Just send an e mail to me requesting the FREE REPORT, and I will be glad to do so at no obligation. This is part of my appreciation to our community for the privilege of helping so many

students over the years. And if you receive one, feel free to forward it to anyone else you think might be helped by the information. FOR SENIORS AND FAMILIES, this report can greatly help in final planning and preparation for college applications. FOR JUNIORS, SOPHOMORES, FRESHMEN AND FAMILIES, this report can greatly help in your planning for the future. AND IF I CAN HELP YOUR STUDENT with exam scores, strategic and sometimes detailed advice for applications, or lifelessons that will help in college and for life ... just let me know at wwa0811@mykolab.com or call me at 727-253-0639. Dr. Wayne Adams is one of the leading SAT and ACT tutors in the country. His students normally improve 200 – 350 points on the Writing, Reading, Writing and Essay, and Math, and 4 – 7 points on the ACT composite. They have been admitted to eight of the top ten universities in the country, eighteen of the top twenty-five, and many schools in Florida. These schools include Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Stanford, U Chicago, Duke, U Penn, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Notre Dame,
Emory, UC Berkley, UCLA, USC, UNC (Chapel Hill), University of Virginia, NYU, Northeastern (Boston), Boston College, Georgia Tech, Air Force and Merchant Marine Service Academies, Penn State, Purdue, Ohio State, LSU, Auburn, UF, U Miami, FSU, USF, UCF, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, FIU, New College of Florida, Stetson, and Julliard – Manhattan - New England - and Berkley Conservatories of Music. Many have received academic, athletic, or music scholarships. This year, he also tutored three juniors who scored at the national merit finalist/ semi-finalist levels on the most recent PSAT. He is a former Dean of a Graduate School of Business and Full Professor, and began college teaching at the University of Maryland in 1968. He has degrees and advanced studies at Harvard, Yale, Vanderbilt, Columbia International, and Luther Rice. His additional publications to help his high school students also include How To Write College Application Essays Colleges Will Love (104 pages), How To Survive And Thrive Your First Semester At A Secular University, and How To Negotiate With Colleges (that has saved families from $1,000 to $10,000 a year in college costs).

KEYSTONE PREP HIGH SCHOOL - Unique Learning styles for unique students Tucked away on the winding section of Gunn Highway that rolls past several sprawling farms in Odessa, is an extraordinary school that serves students from all over the Tampa Bay area. Some have said it is one of the best kept secrets in Tampa, but to the nearly seventy (and growing) families who know of Keystone Prep High School, it is an amazing resource that pulls together students, many of whom have learning differences stemming from ADHD, dyslexia, high functioning autism, and other challenges, in an educational learning community second to none. Engaging teens to become selfmotivated learners is the core of Keystone’s strategy. A personalized learning environment, and a rigorous, engaging curriculum using instructional strategies to accommodate individual learning styles in a small learning community works. The school’s mission speaks to its unique place Keystone Prep High School holds among peer institutions throughout the region. That mission is: To offer a different approach to high school, where
18 OCTOBER 2018
students with unique learning styles thrive academically, emotionally, and socially. The curriculum includes a fully array of educational offerings including dual enrollment opportunities, college preparatory classes, music, virtual classes, visual and fine arts, athletics, world studies, and numerous other subjects. The school is led by an energetic and passionate head of school, Ms. P.J. Petrillo, who came to Keystone Prep High School two years ago. You can see her eyes sparkle and light up when she discusses the school. There is no doubt when she starts talking about the teens who attend (she knows all of them individually), that her love of her students is what guides her work day in and day out! “To me, being a head of school is not about staying tucked away in a corner office. It’s about making sure each student reaches his or her potential and has the opportunity to grow and develop into a young adult with a bright future ahead” The faculty are expert in their subject matter, but, perhaps more importantly, they are carefully
selected for their energy, dynamism, knowledge about how to engage students, and their understanding of working with students who may have learning challenges. The emphasis is on removing barriers, not lowering the bar, while providing a flexible learning environment that can be individually tailored to ensure each student has an educational experience that best meets his or her needs. Josh Boyle, a student at Keystone Prep, says, “I don’t have a favorite teacher. They are all amazing! But what I like the best about Keystone, is that my teachers are not just there to teach me in
class, but to mentor me and help me with lots of different things. They really care about me.” If you would like to learn more about the school, or arrange for a tour, the school is open all summer and has rolling admissions throughout the year. You can also reach the school by email at admissions@ keystoneprep.org.

Equipped with an MBA from University of South Florida, Justin holds his Series 6, 7, 24, 63 and 65 security licenses, state insurance licenses, and is a Certified Financial Planner®. He describes Schwab as an advocate for the individual investor and it is important to him to implement those principles when working closely with clients. An initial meeting,
he said, is all about making sure clients feel comfortable with the information shared about their financial situations. “We’ll ask a lot of questions at first. It’s our responsibility as consultants to understand our client’s financial position and we gage those questions around financial planning principals,” he said. It is important to him to fully understand the client’s current situation and what they want to accomplish. “We don’t ask for fast decisions. Time creates a comfort

level for the client and we want to be sure they’re comfortable with the options we offer them.” It’s never too early or too late to begin a financial plan he explained. Justin references a Chinese Proverb when clients wonder if it’s the right time to begin. “The best
time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” For those concerned they might not have enough money to begin investing, Justin says Schwab has affordable ways to begin. “Schwab is on the cutting edge of that. Even young individuals or couples just
starting out can begin planning,” he explained. Even the way clients can track their financial planning progress is customizable with Schwab. While some clients like to check their accounts several times a day online, a simple annual review with a representative is enough for others. “The client dictates the amount of engagement they want to have with our team,” he explained. Since the internship experience in college that convinced him to pursue a career in the financial industry, Justin has never looked back. “The most rewarding parts of my job are the client stories I

the long term plans I made when we acquired our office in North Tampa”. Bleakley remarked, “The office building located at 15170 N. Florida Avenue was perfect for The Bleakley Law Firm and at least adequate for The Bleakley Bavol Law Firm, but Bleakley Bavol & Denman simply blew the walls off our building.” As previously reported in this paper, Bleakley’s vision for his firm was more than just providing a comfortable work environment for himself and the firm’s employees, but additionally to bring a firstrate AV rated full service law firm geographically closer to the businesses, families and individuals needing legal representation in Northern Hillsborough County, as well as Pasco and Hernando Counties. “The addition of key corporate, estate planning, and tax lawyers, combined with the growing strength of our commercial litigation group made our firm and its location an ideal fit

for many business clients who just didn’t want to deal with downtown traffic and parking.” Beginning in 2012, Bleakley started looking around for an office space solution for his growing law firm. For some time, Bleakley had his eye on the unique building located directly next door to his present building. However, at nearly 28,000 square feet the building was too large, too expensive, and demanded too much renovation for his law firm. Bleakley and his partners looked at other locations including considering the possibility of moving back downtown. Attempted acquisitions of other properties fell through and for the past five years the firm has been split into two separate building locations while seeking a new home. However, in 2017 the law firm experienced record growth and very early in 2018 it became apparent the firm would greatly exceed its 2017 performance.
Bleakley added, “Earlier this year it became obvious that I just had to step out of my comfort zone and sacrifice some personal goals and go all in for the future of our firm. We looked at all of our options including moving our firm back downtown or to another location in Tampa. But finally, the opportunity arose to purchase the building right next door and remain true to our vision of providing a fullservice law firm to the businesses and individuals located north of
Tampa. After many months of planning, we acquired the future home of our law firm that I truly believe was our destiny from the very beginning.” Bleakley Bavol & Denman recently added its 18th attorney and another has recently accepted an offer to begin next year. According to Bleakley, after the substantial renovations are completed next year, the building can accommodate growth up to 36 lawyers plus staff. In addition,

the architectural plans will accommodate elevated conference room space and a full-service gym with shower facilities. The oversized atrium that likely scared off investors seeking to maximize rentable space actually attracted

You can buy “streaming sticks” or “set-top boxes” from companies like Apple, Amazon, Google and Roku. These devices connect to your regular TV to make it a smart TV and usually come with their own remote. Just be sure your current television has the proper connection ports before you purchase one of these devices. Most will work with an HDMI port. Prices start below $100.

“Highly Recommended A+ Realtors” The Proof Is In The Numbers
Angela Thomas & Dee Strom Florida Executive Realty Over the years the real estate market in general has garnered much press both good and bad and on several platforms including the national and local levels. It certainly has been the content of many conversations as the personal effects of real estate touch individual families and lives. Many can recall all to well the market crash of 2007 and felt the painful sting of deflating home values and rising foreclosures. Dee and Angela of Florida Executive Realty closely monitor the status of both the local and national markets to keep their clients apprised of where their home value currently stands and to provide them with the most up to date and relevant information.
TODAY’S MARKET IS “ON TRACK” As recent headlines seem to suggest, the looming question is what will the market do next? Are we headed towards the disaster of a decade past or will we continue to ride the wave with seemingly no end in sight? The answer itself lies

in the cyclical nature of our market which proves itself over and over again by continuing the same pattern of expansion, peak, contraction and correction. The market naturally seeks equilibrium and makes natural adjustments to get there. Currently, we are in what is widely known as a seller’s market. This is supported by record low inventory of homes for sale (2.6 months of inventory in the greater Tampa Bay area) and rising home values. The relatively low interest rates and a growing economy have many buyers out looking to take advantage of the low cost of money. There are more buyers than homes to sell! That’s great for sellers and buyers alike, however we are in the latter third of an expansion cycle. If history proves itself correct yet again, we are headed for a market correction in which, to the best of our knowledge, we expect to see a plateau effect on the marketplace in general rather than the sharp decline from our last correction, thankfully. Angela and Dee get these questions a lot and hope they prove beneficial to you:

Q: Is now a good time to sell? A: Yes, it’s a great time to sell. Being in the latter part of an expansion cycle allows sellers to take advantage of the maximum amount of appreciation. Q: I need to sell my home, but it’s not the springtime - should I wait? A: The timing of selling your home depends on your needs. Many people think homes only sell in the spring. However, now is a great time to sell since there are not many homes for sale on the open market. Correct pricing and proper preparation for your home prior to going on the market will help your home sell at anytime of the year. Contact Angela and Dee for a free market analysis and to prepare your home for the market today. Q: If it’s a good time to sell, does that mean it’s not a good time to buy? A: It is a great time to buy since the cost to borrow money remains at record low interest rates historically.
Q: I’d like to purchase a home, where do I start? A: That’s great! Your first steps are to select a professional realtor you’d like to work with and a reputable lender. Ask Dee and Angela for outstanding lenders they know and trust on their team. Your lender will help you understand the costs involved with buying, including the type of loan you will qualify for, closing costs & down payment needed. You should ask for a signed preapproval letter. Armed with your pre - approval letter and a strong understanding of the costs involved with buying, your realtor can locate the right home for you based on your needs. Dee and Angela would love to help you get started. Check out zillow.com for their
reviews.
